A new true-crime series is coming to Netflix, and it has one of the busiest filmmakers working today at the helm. Executive produced by Guy Ritchie, the docuseries The Diamond Heist covers what Netflix described as the biggest heist of all time —the Millennium Dome raid. The stunning story is recreated with dramatic effect, and some of the main perpetrators tell their side of the whole ordeal.

The Diamond Heist follows the attempted robbery of a "priceless" diamond at an exhibition in the Millennium Dome located in Greenwich, South East London. Lee Wenham, one of the main perpetrators of the attempted crime, narrates much of the teaser. In true Ritchie fashion, the recreation of the heist is as punchy and visually enthralling as one expects. Created and written by Neil Forsyth, the series is inspired by a real-life criminal investigations following a group of British Customs employees sent undercover to infiltrate some of the U.K.’s most dangerous criminal drug gangs.

This month sees the return of Guy Ritchie to the small screen, after last year’s pot crime comedy series spinoff “The Gentlemen” (already given a season two greenlight), with his latest London gangster effort “MobLand” and a new high-profile addition has been named to the cast ahead of the March 30 debut on Paramount+.

British actress Janet McTeer has been tapped to play a dangerous underworld figure as revealed by The Hollywood Reporter after recently being in the mix to join the “Harry Potter” reboot series alongside John Lithgow and appearing in the satirical thriller “The Menu.”

The Rivals of Amziah King follows Amziah (McConaughey), a foster parent who takes in Kateri (Angelina LookingGlass) after she loses her mother. The film has earned a strong 95% from critics on Rotten Tomatoes, signaling a strong return to form for McConaughey, who has been absent from major roles since starring in The Gentlemen for Guy Ritchie. Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone remains a fan favorite worldwide, according to Digital-i’s British streaming exports list 2024. Despite being nearly 25 years old, the film continues to attract millions of viewers across different countries.

The first Harry Potter movie was one of only two older titles to make the list. The only other pre-2024 project included was Saltburn, which was released on Prime Video in late 2023 after its time in theaters.

The analysis shows that The Philosopher’s Stone was watched more than 40 million times on Max last year. It reached almost 20% of Max subscribers in key markets, making it the eighth most-watched title on the list. The movie performed especially well in Latin America, where it reached 26.6% of subscribers, ranking fifth. Another Harry Potter film, The Goblet of Fire, also made it into the top 10.

Exclusive: Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone continues to cast a spell over fans around the world, according to Digital-i’s British streaming exports list 2024.

The first Harry Potter movie was one of only two projects launched before 2024 that made the inaugural list, which is measured via viewing outside the UK to Netflix, Disney, Prime Video and Max in the U.S., Japan, South Korea, Canada, Australia and key territories across Lat Am and Europe. Given that The Philosopher’s Stone premiered nearly 25 years ago, this is quite the feat. The only other project on the list launched prior to 2024 was Saltburn, which moved to Prime Video in late 2023 after a theatrical run.

In 2020 I reviewed a film premiering on Amazon called The Vast of Night, a small southwestern town drama that felt part Twilight Zone, part Close Encounters of the Third Kind. Its debuting filmmaker was Andrew Patterson, and I started my review predicting that based on that movie he was destined to become a very big thing.

Now five years later he has delivered his second film The Rivals of Amziah King, premiering Monday at SXSW, and he is working with much bigger name actors like Matthew McConaughey and Kurt Russell in a larger-scale crime drama/beekeeping/musical/character study, but still keeping it rural and real. Structurally, The Rivals of Amziah King seems to be two or three movie ideas rolled into one (at one point he was planning it as a seven-part limited TV series), which relies on the audience to follow the unfolding saga wherever it wants to take us.

Tulsa King fans and fans of crime dramas should look out for this upcoming gangster drama series premiering on Paramount+. Starring Tom Hardy as a criminal fixer, the new series MobLand is a Ray Donovan-inspired look into the criminal underworld and has enough star power to combust your television screen. 'MobLand' Has a Wonderfully Talented Cast

Matthew McConaughey is finally returning to the big screen in The Rivals of Amziah King, his first live-action acting role since Guy Ritchie's The Gentlemen in 2019. McConaughey will star alongside Kurt Russell and Cole Sprouse in the upcoming crime thriller.

Speaking about his long-awaited return, McConaughey told Variety, "I remembered a couple of things. One, how much I truly enjoy performing. Two, I remembered, hey, McConaughey, you’re pretty damn good at this. And three, I remembered that acting is a vacation for me, and what I mean by vacation is that when I’m performing, it’s my singular focus."

"When I walk out the door in the morning, my wife says, 'go kick some ass. I got the kiddos. We’re good.' That’s vacation. Because I’m not multitasking. I’m not compartmentalizing. I’m fully focused on finding the truth of my character," he added.

The Sam Raimi-produced horror thriller Crawl has finally received a brand-new streaming update. The 2019 movie was led by Maze Runner vet Kaya Scodelario as a college student athlete who tries to save her estranged father from a Category 5 hurricane.

Mere days after the first images for Guy Ritchie’s MobLand surfaced online, the upcoming espionage series just got another thrilling update. Paramount has officially dropped the first trailer for MobLand, which is set to premiere March 30 on Paramount+ and stars Tom Hardy and Helen Mirren alongside Pierce Brosnan. The show, which also stars House of the Dragon veteran Paddy Considine, follows the three aforementioned stars as heads of various crime families, all fighting for control amidst a power vacuum. MobLand will also feature Joanne Froggat, Lara Pulver, Anson Boon, Mandeep Dhillon, Jasmine Jobson, Geoff Bell, Daniel Betts, Lisa Dwan, and Emily Barber. The BBC has said it is open-minded about supporting calls for a streamer levy to help solve the scripted funding crisis currently gripping the British industry.

BBC Director General Tim Davie told lawmakers on Tuesday that it was a “good idea” to explore ways in which the likes of Netflix could make a “contribution” to local content.

The proposal of a streamer levy has been heavily advocated by Peter Kosminsky, the BAFTA-winning television director and writer behind series including Wolf Hall.

Kosminsky wants Netflix and Amazon Prime Video to hand over 5% of their UK subscription revenue to a cultural fund for British content. He pointed to 17 other territories, including France and Germany, where a similar scheme is already in place.

Charlotte Moore’s decision to quit the BBC has opened up the most powerful creative job in British television — and within minutes speculation was rampant about who could succeed the outgoing content chief.

Moore shocked the industry this morning by announcing plans to take on a dual role at Sony Pictures Television, which will involve overseeing international creative output and running The Crown producer Left Bank Pictures as CEO. She will replace Andy Harries, who yesterday revealed he is transitioning to Executive Chairman.

Sources say Moore has been in talks for months with Wayne Garvie, president of Sony Pictures Television, International, about a unique role. Brosnan, who is, of course, known for his role as James Bond, plays Conrad Harrigan, the head of one of the families. Hardy, who has previously played London mobster twins in Legend, takes on the role of the fixer, Harry Da Souza, who will fight to keep the Harrigan family on top.

After the sweeping success of his Netflix series, The Gentlemen, celebrated director, Guy Ritchie, is preparing to return to the small-screen with yet another action-packed production. Today, Paramount+ has revealed the arrival of MobLand, a new crime-centered tale from the mind of Ritchie, to be set for an arrival on Sunday, March 30. Like all of his other projects, The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare has assembled a star-studded cast for his latest piece, which is set to be led by an impressive trio consisting of Tom Hardy (the Venom franchise), Pierce Brosnan (Mamma Mia!) and Helen Mirren (The Queen).

The star-studded organized crime series from filmmaker Guy Ritchie has landed on a title, as well as a premiere date on Paramount+.

The drama is called MobLand, and it will debut March 30 on Paramount+ in the United States, Canada, U.K. and Australia, with other markets to follow later in the year. It’s a fairly quick turnaround for the show, which was announced (and in production) in late November.

MobLand centers on an Irish crime family based in London, with Brosnan playing the head of the family, Conrad Harrigan. Mirren — who also stars in Paramount+’s Yellowstone prequel 1923 — plays family matriarch Maeve Harrigan, Conrad’s wife. Hardy plays Harry Da Souza, the Harrigans’ fixer.

Anticipation continues to build for the second season of The Gentlemen following its initial premiere in early 2024 and its big renewal towards the end of the year. Ahead of filming beginning to roll this Spring, Theo James has teased what we can expect from the upcoming second season.

In case you missed it, Guy Ritchie is returning to write and direct (at least some episodes) of a second season of The Gentlemen, which served as a spin-off series to the Miramax movie of the same name. The series ultimately became the fifth most-watched debut series of 2024 behind Fool Me Once, The Perfect Couple, Griselda, and Avatar: The Last Airbender.

Wicked added the Bfdg award for Best Production Design, Major Motion Picture Fantasy to recent accolades from BAFTA, The Critics Choice Awards and the Adg (Art Directors Guild of America). With The Gentlemen Season 2 gearing up for production, Theo James has promised fans that the upcoming season will be "bigger and darker" than its predecessor. The actor, who leads Netflix’s hit adaptation of Guy Ritchie's 2019 film, is set to reprise his role as Eddie Halstead when filming begins this spring, and speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, James made it clear that he and Ritchie have no intention of simply rehashing what made the first season so successful.

Let’s be honest Longlegs was a disappointment. Although it did contain a great central performance from Maika Monroe, it’s supernatural storyline owed much too much to many far better films. Added to this, the marketing campaign – which hyped it beyond belief – set audience expectations far higher than anyone could achieve.

That said, the film did extremely well at cinemas across the land, propelling its writer and director into the limelight and as my review said “all we can hope is going forwards, Osgood Perkins uses the new found fame and commercial footing to indulge his more interesting and unconventional horror ideas.”

On the face of it, adapting a Stephen King story is neither interesting nor unconventional. Theo James had previously worked with Osgood Perkins on a horror series that didn’t achieve liftoff, but their collaboration ended up bearing fruit anyway in the form of The Monkey.

James plays the dual twin role of Hal and Bill Shelburn in Perkins’ follow-up to Longlegs, and when he first received the writer-director’s adaptation of Stephen King’s homonymous short story, he found himself laughing to a point where he was unsure if The Monkey’s tone was intentional or not. After all, he knew Perkins’ body of work from their previous go-round together, and comedy wasn’t at the forefront of his films despite a well regarded sense of humor in real life.
