A new true-crime series is coming to Netflix, and it has one of the busiest filmmakers working today at the helm. Executive produced by Guy Ritchie, the docuseries The Diamond Heist covers what Netflix described as the biggest heist of all time —the Millennium Dome raid. The stunning story is recreated with dramatic effect, and some of the main perpetrators tell their side of the whole ordeal.
The Diamond Heist follows the attempted robbery of a "priceless" diamond at an exhibition in the Millennium Dome located in Greenwich, South East London. Lee Wenham, one of the main perpetrators of the attempted crime, narrates much of the teaser. In true Ritchie fashion, the recreation of the heist is as punchy and visually enthralling as one expects. Even though it is a documentary series, the aesthetic and tone normally associated with the filmmaker are not lost, and it's easy to see why...

Matthew McConaughey’s first lead role in over five years comes in The Rivals of Amziah King, and the film is earning strong reviews at SXSW. The Rivals of Amziah King follows Amziah (McConaughey), a foster parent who takes in Kateri (Angelina LookingGlass) after she loses her mother. The film has earned a strong 95% from critics on Rotten Tomatoes, signaling a strong return to form for McConaughey, who has been absent from major roles since starring in The Gentlemen for Guy Ritchie. In addition to McConaughey, The Rivals of Amziah King also stars Kurt Russell (Monarch: Legacy of Monsters) and Owen Teague (Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes), and the film was written by James Montague and Andrew Patterson with Patterson also directing.

The last time Matthew McConaughey graced our screens with a live-action role in a movie was in 2019 with the stylish Guy Ritchie film "The Gentlemen." But now he's finally back with a new feature film, and it is something that must be seen to be believed.
"The Rivals of Amziah King" is only Andrew Patterson's second feature film, but it feels like it was made by a veteran filmmaker at the top of his craft. This is a movie that begins as a comedic modern Western, but evolves into a revenge drama. Oh, and it's also a musical, a slapstick comedy, and a movie about stolen bees. It's the kind of indie movie with so many story beats, tonal shifts, and ideas that it can either get bogged down by how overstuffed it is, or coalesce into something transcendent. Thankfully, Patterson's film is the latter -- it's one...

Plot: Following the death of her mother, Kateri (Angelina LookingGlass) reunites with her beloved former foster father, Amziah King (Matthew McConaughey), a honey-maker working in the backwoods of rural Oklahoma.
Review: It’s hard to believe, but it’s been six whole years since Matthew McConaughey has appeared in a film (The Gentlemen). Sure, he’s done some voice work and commercials, but walking into The Rivals of Amziah King, I didn’t realize just how much I missed him until the movie’s bravura opening sequence. In this expertly directed introduction to what’s undoubtedly the best film I saw at SXSW this year, McConaughey’s Amziah pulls up to an outdoor eatery where he meets some friends and jams with them, playing homegrown roots rock, with all of them singing and playing with the type of joy that can’t help but wash over the audience.

The James Bond franchise is more in flux than ever before following Amazon’s takeover, and it will need the perfect actor to take over the role of 007 and lead the series into this new era. While the likes of Kraven the Hunter star Aaron Taylor-Johnson, The Gentlemen’s Theo James, and former Superman Henry Cavill remain the favorites, James Bond expert and superfan Graham Rye thinks a certain unknown actor is the only correct choice...
Rye, who is the editor behind 007 Magazine, has now endorsed the little-known Scottish actor and star of Miss Scarlet and Zack Snyder’s Rebel Moon, Stuart Martin, as the only actor who can successfully relaunch the James Bond franchise now that Amazon has hold of the creative reins. Speaking with GBNews, Rye explained...

SXSW film festival: The Oscar winner’s first film role for six years shows his undeniable magnetism but squanders it on a baggy mix of tones and genres
In the past six years, the Academy award-winning actor Matthew McConaughey, the reigning prince of Austin, Texas, has kept busy. He raised his three kids in the city, written and released a bestselling memoir on “easy-livin’” (“because life is a verb”), taught in the film department at the University of Texas at Austin, pleaded for gun control at the White House after the horrific school shooting in his home town of Uvalde and “seriously considered” running for governor of Texas. But he has not acted on screen – relegating his last two film roles, underwhelming romps in Harmony Korine’s The Beach Bum and Guy Ritchie’s The Gentlemen, to the distant memory of a pre-pandemic 2019. With the end of the 2010s, the...

In 2020 I reviewed a film premiering on Amazon called The Vast of Night, a small southwestern town drama that felt part Twilight Zone, part Close Encounters of the Third Kind. Its debuting filmmaker was Andrew Patterson, and I started my review predicting that based on that movie he was destined to become a very big thing.
Now five years later he has delivered his second film The Rivals of Amziah King, premiering Monday at SXSW, and he is working with much bigger name actors like Matthew McConaughey and Kurt Russell in a larger-scale crime drama/beekeeping/musical/character study, but still keeping it rural and real. Structurally, The Rivals of Amziah King seems to be two or three movie ideas rolled into one (at one point he was planning it as a seven-part limited TV series), which relies on the audience to follow the unfolding saga wherever it wants to take us.

Matthew McConaughey is finally returning to the big screen in The Rivals of Amziah King, his first live-action acting role since Guy Ritchie's The Gentlemen in 2019. McConaughey will star alongside Kurt Russell and Cole Sprouse in the upcoming crime thriller.
Speaking about his long-awaited return, McConaughey told Variety, "I remembered a couple of things. One, how much I truly enjoy performing. Two, I remembered, hey, McConaughey, you’re pretty damn good at this. And three, I remembered that acting is a vacation for me, and what I mean by vacation is that when I’m performing, it’s my singular focus."
"When I walk out the door in the morning, my wife says, 'go kick some ass. I got the kiddos. We’re good.' That’s vacation. Because I’m not multitasking. I’m not compartmentalizing. I’m fully focused on finding the truth of my character," he added.

Tom Hardy Is Crime Boss Pierce Brosnan’s Fixer In New Guy Ritchie Series MobLand — Watch The Trailer
Sometimes a trailer for a new movie or show comes along that's so direct, so to the point, so does-what-it-says-on-the-tin that all you really need to do is watch it and you know you're in. The teaser for genre filmmaker Guy Ritchie's upcoming, 10-episode Paramount+ gangster joint MobLand is one such trailer. All you really need to know going in is that Pierce Brosnan is crime boss Conrad Harrigan, Helen Mirren's his wife Maeve, and Tom Hardy is the Harrigan family's fixer Harry Da Souza. We'll let the trailer fill you in on the rest;
'Sympathy For The Devil' blaring. Brosnan hamming it up with a faux Scottish brogue saying things like "we shake the right hands, we break the wrong ones." Mirren going we think Irish as a chic mob matriarch. Hardy looking hard as nails rocking knuckledusters and a cockney accent. And the word...

The BBC has said it is open-minded about supporting calls for a streamer levy to help solve the scripted funding crisis currently gripping the British industry.
BBC Director General Tim Davie told lawmakers on Tuesday that it was a “good idea” to explore ways in which the likes of Netflix could make a “contribution” to local content.
The proposal of a streamer levy has been heavily advocated by Peter Kosminsky, the BAFTA-winning television director and writer behind series including Wolf Hall.
Kosminsky wants Netflix and Amazon Prime Video to hand over 5% of their UK subscription revenue to a cultural fund for British content. He pointed to 17 other territories, including France and Germany, where a similar scheme is already in place.
Davie said he planned to meet Kosminsky “very shortly” to discuss the proposal. “I think the idea that contribution is flowing back into the UK is a good idea. Just...

“All right...let’s play.” Action movie icon Jason Statham does what he does best in a new action-packed clip from this month’s highly anticipated action thriller, A Working Man. Directed by The Beekeeper’s David Ayer, and with a script from Statham’s Expendables co-star Sylvester Stallone, A Working Man is set to hit theaters on March 28, 2025, and promises to be another crowd-pleasing action outing much like last year’s surprise hit, The Beekeeper.
You can check out the footage below, which finds The Stath entering the lion’s den where a criminal overlord named Dutch vastly underestimates the granite-jawed killer in front of him. Making the classic mistake of telling his henchmen to “get him,” Statham tears through his assailants with ease, throwing fists, breaking bones, and no doubt resulting in cheers and applause from the audience.

Theo James had to master different voices for his two roles in 'The Monkey'.The 40-year-old star portrays twin brothers Hal and Bill Shelburn in Osgood Perkins' comedy horror flick – which is based on Stephen King's short story of the same name about a cursed toy monkey – and wants to use his voice to present the different personalities of the two siblings.Speaking to Collider, Theo said: "I wanted to make sure those two characters were comedic but in very different ways."Hal is a kind of repressed everyman, so I wanted his speech to be a little unsure so he would stutter and repeat words. Also, the way he moves, he doesn't move directionally; he moves as if kind of being pulled along. He's unsure all the time."Bill is the opposite of that. When he moves, he moves with direction. He speaks clearer. His voice is a little more grounded.

Before working with Osgood Perkins in The Monkey, Theo James felt like a slightly understated actor in terms of recognition and acclaim. Despite being typecast as a tragic heartthrob in his early career, his more recent roles have seen him branch out and become more of a household name. Most notably, his performances as Eddie in The Gentlemen and Cameron in The White Lotus have shown his ability to play a more antagonistic, morally gray style of character.

Charlotte Moore’s decision to quit the BBC has opened up the most powerful creative job in British television — and within minutes speculation was rampant about who could succeed the outgoing content chief.
Moore shocked the industry this morning by announcing plans to take on a dual role at Sony Pictures Television, which will involve overseeing international creative output and running The Crown producer Left Bank Pictures as CEO. She will replace Andy Harries, who yesterday revealed he is transitioning to Executive Chairman.
Sources say Moore has been in talks for months with Wayne Garvie, president of Sony Pictures Television, International, about a unique role. These discussions overlapped with Moore being courted for an international role at Disney but in the end, she opted for Sony. “I think a creative challenge without the politics of a global company had more appeal to her in a post-bbc life,” said an indie...

The Monkey comes from Osgood "Oz" Perkins and stars Theo James in a dual role as twin brothers Bill and Hal, as well as Tatiana Maslany, Christian Convery, Colin O'Brien, Rohan Campbell, Sarah Levy, Adam Scott, and Elijah Wood. The film follows the two brothers whose lives are affected by a cursed toy monkey that goes on a killing spree. In a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter, James addressed a popular fan theory and shared his own thoughts on why it doesn't work.

With The Gentlemen Season 2 gearing up for production, Theo James has promised fans that the upcoming season will be "bigger and darker" than its predecessor. The actor, who leads Netflix’s hit adaptation of Guy Ritchie's 2019 film, is set to reprise his role as Eddie Halstead when filming begins this spring, and speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, James made it clear that he and Ritchie have no intention of simply rehashing what made the first season so successful.

Let’s be honest Longlegs was a disappointment. Although it did contain a great central performance from Maika Monroe, it’s supernatural storyline owed much too much to many far better films. Added to this, the marketing campaign – which hyped it beyond belief – set audience expectations far higher than anyone could achieve.
That said, the film did extremely well at cinemas across the land, propelling its writer and director into the limelight and as my review said “all we can hope is going forwards, Osgood Perkins uses the new found fame and commercial footing to indulge his more interesting and unconventional horror ideas.”
On the face of it, adapting a Stephen King story is neither interesting nor unconventional. With a career spanning over 50 years, King’s works have been remade by multiple directors inciting fear on screens large and small for centuries, from Carrie to Misery, The Lawnmower Man to The Shawshank Redemption,...

Theo James had previously worked with Osgood Perkins on a horror series that didn’t achieve liftoff, but their collaboration ended up bearing fruit anyway in the form of The Monkey.
James plays the dual twin role of Hal and Bill Shelburn in Perkins’ follow-up to Longlegs, and when he first received the writer-director’s adaptation of Stephen King’s homonymous short story, he found himself laughing to a point where he was unsure if The Monkey’s tone was intentional or not. After all, he knew Perkins’ body of work from their previous go-round together, and comedy wasn’t at the forefront of his films despite a well regarded sense of humor in real life.
“I got sent the script, and I loved it. But it was really funny, and I was slightly confused. I wasn’t ready for that because the bank of [Perkins’] work hadn’t been as such,...
