Malayalam star Fahadh Faasil, acclaimed for his recent release ‘Aavesham’, has chalked out the line of difference between Malayalam cinema and the rest of Indian cinema.

The actor, renowned for his roles in ‘Kumbalangi Nights’, ‘Maheshinte Prathikaaram’, ‘Malik’, ‘Joji’, and others, highlighted that Malayalam cinema still lacks substantial support from Ott platforms.

In a conversation with the YouTube channel Galatta Plus, Fahadh said: “The trade has grown for Malayalam cinema, but our cinema even now doesn’t have a solid back-up of an online streaming platform. We need to prove our mettle in theatres for any of these things to come in. Unlike the rest of India, where almost 80 per cent of films are sold even before the shoot is started, things are different for us.”

The actor added: “Our model is not that, we need to finish the film and release the film to demonstrate its potential before it gains traction on Ott platforms.

Malayalam star Fahadh Faasil, who is known for ‘Kumbalangi Nights’, ‘Maheshinte Prathikaaram’, ‘Malik’ and ‘Pushpa: The Rise’, is set to headline the upcoming Malayalam film ‘Karate Chandran’. The film also stars Malayalam actor Dileesh Pothan, who has earlier collaborated with Fahadh on ‘Kumbalangi Nights’ and ‘Maheshinte Prathikaaram’.

Film editor Kiran Das, who has worked with the actor in ‘Joji’, took to his Instagram and shared pictures of the actor from his Karate training session. Kiran also shared a picture of the film’s bound script.

He wrote in the caption, “Fahadh Faasil in and as Karate Chandran, Directed by Roy, Written by S Hareesh and Vinoy Thomas. More updates soon”.

‘Karate Chandran’ marks the third collaboration between Fahadh and Bhavana Studios. The production house has previously produced ‘Joji’ and ‘Kumbalangi Nights’, where in Fahadh Faasil played a major role.

Fans of Malayalam cinema are in for a treat as the director of the hit comedy-drama Njandukalude Nattil Oridavela, Althaf Salim, is teaming up with two of the most talented and popular actors in the industry, Fahadh Faasil and Kalyani Priyadarshan, for his next project. The film, titled Odum Kuthira Chadum Kuthira which is said to be a romantic thriller, is expected to hit the screens on July 24, 2024.

The film marks the second collaboration between Althaf Salim and Kalyani Priyadarshan, who made her Malayalam debut with his 2020 film Varane Avashyamund. The actress, who is the daughter of veteran filmmaker Priyadarshan and actress Lissy, has been making waves in the South Indian film industry with her performances in films like Hello1, Chitralahari2, Hero3, and Maanaadu4.
