Holiday TV viewing used to mean nostalgic animated specials like A Charlie Brown Christmas or Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer. Now, ’tis the season of domination by round-the-clock Hallmark Christmas movies.
This time of year can be frustrating for TV viewers who don’t get the appeal of these movies. If this describes you, never fear — we’re here to help!
Whether you’re secretly curious or know you’re doomed to watch some of these with family over the holidays, these tips will help you endure and enjoy your time watching Hallmark Christmas movies.
(Hallmark Channel/Screenshot) Things Have Changed. Really!
We know all the Hallmark cliches: A high-powered career woman from the Big City is forced to spend Christmas in a snowy rural town where she finds love and the true spirit of the holiday.
This is… well, I suppose it’s still true for a fair percentage of these films.

Hallmark is known for having a pretty reliable stable of artists. Once an actor has starred in one of the many Hallmark Christmas movies out there, chances are, you'll start to see them over and over again. In fact, there are a small class of actors who can eke out a reliable living solely through their appearances in holiday films. Especially for a channel like Hallmark, which goes into sicko mode every fall, churning out dozens of Christmas movies to round out their calendar for the last few months of the year.
Aside from familiar faces, sometimes Hallmark manages to score an actor who is more well-known for their career outside of the holiday film ouevre. Often, they make little pit stops between other projects -- sometimes they're content with a one-off appearance, other times they're assimilated into the Hallmark family, taking on more holiday films afterwards.

Madeline Kingston continues to stir the pot in Kathy Bates' Matlock series, with episode 7, "Belly of the Beast," delivering key twists to Madeline's plan. Still, things have been getting difficult for the septuagenarian lawyer, who is infiltrating Jacobson Moore, to put whoever is responsible for hiding Wellbrexa documents in jail. Madeline has faced conflict with her husband, Edwin (Sam Anderson), over advancing her plan, despite the pressure it put on her and her family. The conflict comes to a head in Matlock episode 6 when Olympia (Skye P. Marshall) and Julian (Jason Ritter) invite Madeline to work on a Wellbrexa case, the development she's been waiting for. Kelsey Grammer is currently enjoying a great deal of success with the revival of "Frasier," a series that has been running on Paramount+ since October 2023. The original "Frasier," itself a spinoff of "Cheers," starred Grammer as the titular character, a radio psychologist whose persnickety attitudes and tastes invited all manner of zany shenanigans into his life. The original show lasted 264 episodes over 11 seasons, making it one of the most successful sitcoms of its decade.
But, as many might be able to point out, Grammer's career has been wildly varied in success. He often shows up in films, yet he has headlined far more bombs than hits. Grammer has played Dr. Hank McCoy/Beast in several live-action "X-Men" movies, but he has also appeared in a slew of weird, low-budget, straight-to-home-media schlock. Who could forget, for instance, the bizarre glories of Andrew Lawrence's "Money Plane"? Grammer has similarly starred in numerous low-rent Christmas movies,...

Disney+ has launched a Top 10 list to let users know what content is most streamed on the platform.
The feature highlights popular movies and TV shows from the streamer. Subscribers will see different rankings depending on their subscription and parental control settings.
Disney+’s Top 10 is composed by taking “several factors into account, including total views at the episode and movie level within a day and the growing popularity of new titles released during that time frame.” The ranking also combines movie and TV show titles.
When Deadline looked at its Top 10 list for Wednesday, October 30, the content was mostly Halloween-themed.
At the top of our list was 1993’s Hocus Pocus, the Kenny Ortega-created film that starred Bette Midler, Kathy Najimy, and Sarah Jessica Parker.
Agatha All Along, which airs its season finale at 6 p.m. Pt / 9 p.m. Et on Wednesday night, took the second spot.

The Simpsons has some of the most devious characters on television. Springfield is packed with residents who commit several atrocities or are rather nasty to their neighbors. While the titular family are still the most iconic people featured in the sitcom, there are still many other individuals who fans fondly remember. The latest Disney Plus Simpsons short, "The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year," celebrates The Simpsons' villains, opting fans to share their favorite evil characters who they believe should return.
These antagonists have plenty of potential for a comeback, because of their magnetic personalities. The Simpsons boast many larger-than-life baddies who steal the show in the episodes that they feature in. Bringing these Springfield citizens back would delight many longtime fans of the show, who are craving to see them terrorize Springfield once more.

The Simpsons has been running for so long that many of its running gags have become part of the fabric of the show. However, even producer Al Jean has grown tired of one of the shows most iconic repeated moments the Sideshow Bob rake gag.
Although it is hard to believe, the first time Bob found his face being smushed by the gardening tool was all the way back in Season 5s brilliant Cape Feare episode. After making an appearance in almost every episode that Sideshow Bob has featured in, the gag has recently appeared twice in the space of a week first in Season 36 episode The Yellow Lotus and then twice in the Disney+ short, The Most Wonderful Time of the Year. While speaking to Inverse, Jean revealed that although the gag has always been one of his favorites, he wont personally be using it again. He said:
I love the joke.

Ever since being acquired by the Mouse House, The Simpsons has been producing a number of synergistic shorts for Disney+, combining the world of Springfield with Disney-owned franchises like Star Wars and Marvel — but sadly not Die Hard or Fuzzbucket.
The latest short, The Most Wonderful Time of the Year, finds Sideshow Bob celebrating Halloween with a musical number featuring some of the most famous villains in Disney history, not counting current and former CEOs. Being a Sideshow Bob-centric story, naturally it features multiple references to his greatest non-human nemesis: the yard rake.
As we’ve mentioned before, the drawn-out gag from Season Five’s “Cape Feare,” in which rake handles keep smacking Bob in the face for a painfully long time, was originally created as a way to pad out the episode, which was running short. Producer Sam Simon argued, “When something’s funny, and then you do it...

Long-time The Simpsons producer Al Jean reveals that the running gag of Sideshow Bob being hit in the face by a rake may have come to an end. Originating in season 5, episode 2 "Cape Feare," the gag has the villain stepping on the end of a rake and getting hit in the face by the handle, followed by an aggravated mumble from Bob. It was recently seen in The Simpsons season 36, episode 2 "The Yellow Lotus" and the Disney+ short "The Most Wonderful Time of the Year," released less than a week apart.
Talking with Inverse to discuss the new Simpsons short, "The Most Wonderful Time of the Year," which is currently streaming on Disney+, Jean was asked if there was any debate over whether to include the rake gag, which happens twice in the special. He notes that director David Silverman wanted the short to acknowledge that the joke had run...

In October, the streamer will debut “Wizards Beyond Waverly Place,” an expansion of the popular Disney Channel series “Wizards of Waverly Place” which aired from 2007 to 2012.

Mark Tremonti is best known as the guitarist for Alter Bridge and Creed, but he’s also proven himself to be quite the crooner.
The veteran rocker is set to release a collection of holiday and Christmas standards titled Christmas Classics New & Old on October 27th, and he’s now shared the opening track, a rendition of “The Most Wonderful Time of the Year.”
Tremonti sings a graceful version of the ubiquitous holiday-season anthem alongside a jovial horn section, proving why he has become a renowned Frank Sinatra interpreter in his downtime from Alter Bridge.
Last year’s covers album, Mark Tremonti Sings Frank Sinatra, received acclaim for its faithful and accomplished renderings of Sinatra staples and even led to a series of “Tremonti Sings Sinatra” concerts, including three that are set for January 2024: January 5th; January 6th; and January 13th.

If there's a thing that remained consistent throughout all six seasons of Glee, even when the writing and overall quality of the show declined, it's the singing. The entire cast was truly talented beyond words, and they all consistently delivered when performing their covers.
The cast put out three Christmas albums, practically covering every classic holiday tune and putting the classic Glee spin on them. Not all of them made it to the actual show, but they all contributed to the success of their respective albums. And as the cast changed with every new season, new voices got to be showcased on each album, perfectly representing the diversity and inclusivity Glee always strived to showcase.

Andy Williams was a staple in our housegrowing up. He had those great Christmas specials every year on NBC and they always made you feel cozy and special and spirited. Great sets, costumes, sketches and terrific music. It was traditional, and he always wore great sweaters. Needless to say, all of this made mewant to have a traditional-looking cover for my first Christmas album. All the stars used to sing the same handful of songs, but it was the arrangements that made them stick in your brain. No matter what he sang, I was always happy to see and hear Andy Williams. This song is a particular favorite- 'It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year.'...

The most wonderful time of the year is nigh: Fall TV. It's never too early to start planning out your DVR schedule and we're here to help. While we've only seen the trailers, as seasoned TV experts we can generally tell what will make the cut and what's not worth your time just based on those previews alone. For the 2017-2018 season, comedies are striking back in a big way, along with genre and sci-fi shows. Below, take a look at our ranking of the new 2017-2018 TV shows (based on their trailers). Some networks did not release all the previews shown to TV journalists and advertisers at the 2017 Upfronts, so this is not a full rundown of new shows. The most wonderful time of the year arrived a little early! Thanksgiving is less than a week away, but Carly Rae Jepsen is already in the Christmas spirit. The 29-year-old Canadian pop princess released her cover of Wham!'s 1984 classic holiday song "Last Christmas" Thursday evening, tweeting, "Winter white. Soft focus. Candy canes. Waves." Though Jepsen's synth version is similar to the original, the singer made sure to give it a modern makeover. Jepsen is far from the first musician to put her spin on "Last Christmas" and release it as a single. Others who have done the same include Whigfield in 1995, Billie Piper in 1999, Jimmy Eat World in 2001, Ashley Tisdale in 2006, Crazy Frog...

The most wonderful time of the year is rapidly approaching, sports fans, it is officially Wrestlemania season. As is tradition, WWE move the initial pieces into play with the first PPV on the calender year, the Royal Rumble. You’ll see thrills and spills, you’ll see near-eliminations, you’ll see Kofi Kingston do something undoubtedly awesome and ridiculous, and you’ll all get to practice your mathematical skills by counting backwards from ten, and when you get it right you’ll be rewarded with the sound of an airhorn and the appearance of some new sweaty person in spandex. What more could you want??

The old Christmas song “It’s The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year” is very fitting when it comes to the first pay per view of the WWE each year, the Royal Rumble. It is the official beginning to the “Road To Wrestlemania” as the winner of the Rumble match has a guaranteed shot at the title at Wrestlemania a couple months later. Though we have Battle Royal matches a few times throughout the year, nothing is like the Royal Rumble match, and that is why it is a special time.
Each year (with the exception of a couple), 30 superstars will enter the match, and only one will become victorious. One great thing that is associated with the Royal Rumble are the stats that come with it. While we’ll review those stats and numbers later on this month, on this article, we are going to focus on...

The most wonderful time of the year is upon us. No, not Christmas — Autumn.
After a gruelling three months of heat, humidity and glaring sunlight, we are all awarded a respite of the cool, crisp weather that comes with Autumn. The leaves change to beautiful oranges, yellows and reds, pumpkin-flavoured everything graces the menus at your favourite cafés and cozy hoodies permanently cuddle your torso. Oh, and did we mention Halloween? There’s nothing quite like the first day since Spring that you can don a sweater, lace up your boots and dig your outwear from the depths of your closet.
Nothing can really compare to the joy experienced after stepping on a crunchy leaf or after feeling a gust of autumn wind against your face. If you are one of those people who hates the heat, claims to be allergic to the sun and has...

The most wonderful time of the year kicked off with a fluorish in New York City tonight. Mariah Carey, Jewel, Leona Lewis, Mary J. Blige and the Goo Goo Dolls helped get the yuletide party started at the annual lighting of the Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree, one of the Big Apple's most beloved traditions. Today hosts Matt Lauer, Savannah Guthrie, Al Roker and Natalie Morales cohosted the accompanying NBC special, Christmas at Rockefeller Center. They dedicated the broadcast to Today audio and lighting technician Jim Lovell, who was one of four people killed Sunday when a commuter train derailed in the Bronx. But while the tunes were merry and the celebrity wattage high, the real star of...

At this point of the year, month and week, it had better be looking a lot like Christmas.
With the much-anticipated holiday upon us, television is doing its part, presenting attractions that reflect the spirit of the season in a variety of ways ... some funny, some serious and some simply built for all-out yuletide fun. Here's a roundup of much of what's still left for viewers on the virtual Christmas tree otherwise known as a TV screen.
ABC: This year's "Cma Country Christmas" special, with Jennifer Nettles of Sugarland back as host for the third consecutive year, gets a repeat Sunday, Dec. 23 -- and later that day, the Julie Andrews-starring holiday-season perennial "The Sound of Music" also returns. Monday, Dec. 24, sees repeats of the animated specials "Disney's Prep & Landing" and "Shrek the Halls." And Christmas itself is packed with TV tradition Tuesday, Dec. 25; the morning is marked by the Disney Parks Christmas Day Parade,...

FEARnet's original scripted series, Holliston, is coming down the chimney with a very special Christmas episode.
The most wonderful time of the year quickly turns into “Silent Night, Deadly Night,” when a blizzard strikes the town of Holliston, trapping Adam, Joe, Corri and Laura inside with no power. To make matters worse, a crazed serial killer has just escaped and is said to be lurking somewhere in the area. Fearing for their lives and having nothing but flashbacks to entertain them, the gang reminisces about the moments in their past that brought them all together. Derek Mears (Friday the 13th) guest stars.
The Holliston Christmas special will premiere on December 18th, capping off an all-day season one Holliston marathon. Enjoy these stills, and get all the deets on Holliston. You need FEARnet to get Holliston - find out how to get FEARnet with your cable or satellite provider.

Foster the People and others help break down the Stone Temple Pilots frontman's Christmas video.

With Christmas just around the corner, it's safe to assume you're enveloped in holiday tunes — whether inescapably at the mall or blaring from your laptop by choice. Beyond the old standards, there's Michael Bublé's chart-topping Christmas album and even Justin Bieber's first Christmas contribution, Under the Mistletoe, but you might not be aware that Stone Temple Pilots frontman Scott Weiland released his own holiday disc this year.
That's right, and while Weiland's The Most Wonderful Time of the Year dropped back in October, even some of his contemporaries were unaware of his Xmas effort. That gave us the perfect opportunity to share the album's first music video with the bands on the bill at Kroq's annual Almost Acoustic Christmas earlier this month.

Enter now for your chance to win the Velvet Revolver and Stone Temple Pilots frontman's Christmas themed album. The singer was inspired by legends Frank Sinatra and Bing Crosby for the holiday record, singing renditions of 'Winter Wonderland', 'White Christmas', 'I’ll Be Home For Christmas' and more. The Music Two-time Grammy winner Scott Weiland just debuted his new, retro-inspired video for “Winter Wonderland," which finds him channeling the signature sound that Bing Crosby brought to the song nearly 50 years ago. The song is the first release from his new Christmas album The Most Wonderful Time of the Year. The inception of the album began two years ago when Weiland first performed “Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas,” on The Tonight Show With Jay Leno. The singer says Frank...

Yes, it’s The Most Wonderful Time of the Year. In less than five weeks, all of geekdom (who were able to secure tickets) will be descending upon the San Diego Convention Center for a mass celebration of the wonder that is Comic-Con. The internet has been all a-flutter about which movies and television series will have a presence there this year. Studios have been leaking out scraps of information, but Comic-Con itself doesn’t usually release the schedule until about two weeks before the event.
Even then, things have been known to change right up until the week of the event. Those of us who packed the room for Terra Nova last year were more than a little irked that it had been pulled at the last minute, to be replaced by Teen Wolf. Lucky for us (and for the panel), we were pleasantly surprised with the substitute presentation.

The film Daydream Nation features a fantastic cast: the luscious Kat Dennings, the better than that "Poor Man's McConaughey" label Josh Lucas, and Reece Thompson, who you've only heard of if you've seen the great indie Rocket Science. Did you see Rocket Science? Good, then you know why I was excited.

While something dark is alluded to (is that a flash of Josh Lucas naked. . .with a gun. . .and. . .weeping?), the plunkety indie music and quippy dialogue paints a very different picture.
