This time of year can be frustrating for TV viewers who don’t get the appeal of these movies. If this describes you, never fear — we’re here to help!

We know all the Hallmark cliches: A high-powered career woman from the Big City is forced to spend Christmas in a snowy rural town where she finds love and the true spirit of the holiday.

This is… well, I suppose it’s still true for a fair percentage of these films.

Hallmark is known for having a pretty reliable stable of artists. Once an actor has starred in one of the many Hallmark Christmas movies out there, chances are, you'll start to see them over and over again. In fact, there are a small class of actors who can eke out a reliable living solely through their appearances in holiday films. Especially for a channel like Hallmark, which goes into sicko mode every fall, churning out dozens of Christmas movies to round out their calendar for the last few months of the year. 

Aside from familiar faces, sometimes Hallmark manages to score an actor who is more well-known for their career outside of the holiday film ouevre. Often, they make little pit stops between other projects -- sometimes they're content with a one-off appearance, other times they're assimilated into the Hallmark family, taking on more holiday films afterwards.

Kelsey Grammer is currently enjoying a great deal of success with the revival of "Frasier," a series that has been running on Paramount+ since October 2023. The original "Frasier," itself a spinoff of "Cheers," starred Grammer as the titular character, a radio psychologist whose persnickety attitudes and tastes invited all manner of zany shenanigans into his life. The original show lasted 264 episodes over 11 seasons, making it one of the most successful sitcoms of its decade.

But, as many might be able to point out, Grammer's career has been wildly varied in success. He often shows up in films, yet he has headlined far more bombs than hits. Grammer has played Dr. Hank McCoy/Beast in several live-action "X-Men" movies, but he has also appeared in a slew of weird, low-budget, straight-to-home-media schlock. Disney+ has launched a Top 10 list to let users know what content is most streamed on the platform.

The feature highlights popular movies and TV shows from the streamer. Subscribers will see different rankings depending on their subscription and parental control settings.

Disney+’s Top 10 is composed by taking “several factors into account, including total views at the episode and movie level within a day and the growing popularity of new titles released during that time frame.” The ranking also combines movie and TV show titles.

When Deadline looked at its Top 10 list for Wednesday, October 30, the content was mostly Halloween-themed.

At the top of our list was 1993’s Hocus Pocus, the Kenny Ortega-created film that starred Bette Midler, Kathy Najimy, and Sarah Jessica Parker.

Agatha All Along, which airs its season finale at 6 p.m. Pt / 9 p.m. Et on Wednesday night, took the second spot.

The Simpsons has been running for so long that many of its running gags have become part of the fabric of the show. However, even producer Al Jean has grown tired of one of the shows most iconic repeated moments the Sideshow Bob rake gag.

Although it is hard to believe, the first time Bob found his face being smushed by the gardening tool was all the way back in Season 5s brilliant Cape Feare episode. After making an appearance in almost every episode that Sideshow Bob has featured in, the gag has recently appeared twice in the space of a week first in Season 36 episode The Yellow Lotus and then twice in the Disney+ short, The Most Wonderful Time of the Year. While speaking to Inverse, Jean revealed that although the gag has always been one of his favorites, he wont personally be using it again. He said:

Ever since being acquired by the Mouse House, The Simpsons has been producing a number of synergistic shorts for Disney+, combining the world of Springfield with Disney-owned franchises like Star Wars and Marvel — but sadly not Die Hard or Fuzzbucket.

The latest short, The Most Wonderful Time of the Year, finds Sideshow Bob celebrating Halloween with a musical number featuring some of the most famous villains in Disney history, not counting current and former CEOs. Being a Sideshow Bob-centric story, naturally it features multiple references to his greatest non-human nemesis: the yard rake.

Long-time The Simpsons producer Al Jean reveals that the running gag of Sideshow Bob being hit in the face by a rake may have come to an end. Originating in season 5, episode 2 "Cape Feare," the gag has the villain stepping on the end of a rake and getting hit in the face by the handle, followed by an aggravated mumble from Bob. It was recently seen in The Simpsons season 36, episode 2 "The Yellow Lotus" and the Disney+ short "The Most Wonderful Time of the Year," released less than a week apart.

Sideshow Bob returns in a new The Simpsons Halloween short on Disney+. Voiced by Kelsey Grammer in the animated series, Sideshow Bob will appear in his first animated short. Along with the short, The Simpsons season 36 will also be premiering this fall. Releasing on October 11 during the middle of the spooky season, the Halloween special is directed by long-time Simpsons creative David Silverman.

Now, Disney+ has announced The Simpsons: The Most Wonderful Time of the Year along with a synopsis provided from What's On Disney Plus. Sideshow Bob will appear with other Disney villains to share the true meaning of the Halloween season, which will include musical numbers. It has not been announced what Disney villains will appear with Bob. In a poster released for the short, Sideshow Bob is seen wearing a suit and flying on a rake like a witch's broomstick.

Even if you’re not a Halloween person, October means spooky season. It feels like every brand, store, — and yes, every streamer, finds ways to incorporate themes of haunting and horror. Disney+ started early, with the September premiere of “Agatha All Along,” which will air new episodes for the next several weeks. The Walt Disney Company has revealed the Disney+ October 2024 release schedule, which includes new Originals, movies, and TV series. The Disney+ streaming service features movies and shows from Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, National Geographic, and more, alongside exclusive Disney+ Originals.

The veteran rocker is set to release a collection of holiday and Christmas standards titled Christmas Classics New & Old on October 27th, and he’s now shared the opening track, a rendition of “The Most Wonderful Time of the Year.”

Tremonti sings a graceful version of the ubiquitous holiday-season anthem alongside a jovial horn section, proving why he has become a renowned Frank Sinatra interpreter in his downtime from Alter Bridge.

It’s summertime, but don’t tell that to Mark Tremonti. The Alter Bridge and Creed guitarist has announced his first-ever holiday album, titled Christmas Classics New & Old.

The new release sees Tremonti singing and performing nine holiday classics and one original song. For the LP, Tremonti teamed up with the same orchestra that played on his recent Frank Sinatra covers album. Christmas Classics New & Old arrives October 27th, and is now available for pre-order here.

As for some of the holiday classics, Tremonti puts his own spin on traditional songs such as “Jingle Bells,” “The First Noel,” “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas,” “O Holy Night” and more. His original holiday song is called “Christmas Morning” and features piano and a marching band.

Crown Media announced that the Hallmark Channel will bring back its annual “Christmas in July” programming schedule, starting with the new original movie “Crashing Through the Snow,” which premieres on July 10 at 9 p.m.

In “Crashing Through the Snow,” Amy Acker and Kristian Bruun star as Maggie and Jeff, who are ex-spouses but friends first. When Jeff’s new girlfriend, Kate (Brooke Nevin), spontaneously invites Maggie along to their Christmas getaway in Aspen, she jumps at the chance to spend a Yuletide holiday away with her two daughters. Although Maggie feels like a third wheel crashing their Christmas, she’s not alone, as Kate’s hapless brother, Sam (Warren Christie), shows up unannounced. Always seeming to live in Kate’s shadow, Sam, for once, wants to come out ahead, and he convinces Maggie that, together, they can compete with Kate and make this Christmas the best one ever. Christmas in July will return to Hallmark bringing Crashing Through The Snow, starring Amy Acker and Warren Christie, to the lineup.

The annual summer movie celebration will kick off Friday, July 9 and will run until Sunday, July 31. Crashing Through The Snow will make its Hallmark debut Friday, July 10 at 9 p.m. The film centers on Maggie (Acker), who joins her ex-husband Jeff (Kristian Brunn) and his girlfriend Kate (Brooke Nevin) for a Christmas getaway in Aspen, where she meets Kate’s brother, Sam (Warren Christie).

Crashing Through the Snow is from Through the Snow Pictures Inc. Stan Spry, Eric Woods and Ryan M. Murphy are executive producers. Anthony Fankhauser is co-executive producer.

This year’s lineup will also include a 2020 Movie Marathon, Soap Sunday and Countdown to Christmas Greatest Hits, which will feature holiday movies including The Christmas Ring and Crown for Christmas.

It is the official beginning to the “Road To Wrestlemania” as the winner of the Rumble match has a guaranteed shot at the title at Wrestlemania a couple months later. Though we have Battle Royal matches a few times throughout the year, nothing is like the Royal Rumble match, and that is why it is a special time.

The most wonderful time of the year quickly turns into “Silent Night, Deadly Night,” when a blizzard strikes the town of Holliston, trapping Adam, Joe, Corri and Laura inside with no power. To make matters worse, a crazed serial killer has just escaped and is said to be lurking somewhere in the area. Fearing for their lives and having nothing but flashbacks to entertain them, the gang reminisces about the moments in their past that brought them all together. With Christmas just around the corner, it's safe to assume you're enveloped in holiday tunes — whether inescapably at the mall or blaring from your laptop by choice. Beyond the old standards, there's Michael Bublé's chart-topping Christmas album and even Justin Bieber's first Christmas contribution, Under the Mistletoe, but you might not be aware that Stone Temple Pilots frontman Scott Weiland released his own holiday disc this year.

That's right, and while Weiland's The Most Wonderful Time of the Year dropped back in October, even some of his contemporaries were unaware of his Xmas effort. That gave us the perfect opportunity to share the album's first music video with the bands on the bill at Kroq's annual Almost Acoustic Christmas earlier this month.

Yes, it’s The Most Wonderful Time of the Year. In less than five weeks, all of geekdom (who were able to secure tickets) will be descending upon the San Diego Convention Center for a mass celebration of the wonder that is Comic-Con. The internet has been all a-flutter about which movies and television series will have a presence there this year. Studios have been leaking out scraps of information, but Comic-Con itself doesn’t usually release the schedule until about two weeks before the event.

Even then, things have been known to change right up until the week of the event. Those of us who packed the room for Terra Nova last year were more than a little irked that it had been pulled at the last minute, to be replaced by Teen Wolf. Lucky for us (and for the panel), we were pleasantly surprised with the substitute presentation.

The film Daydream Nation features a fantastic cast: the luscious Kat Dennings, the better than that "Poor Man's McConaughey" label Josh Lucas, and Reece Thompson, who you've only heard of if you've seen the great indie Rocket Science. Did you see Rocket Science? Good, then you know why I was excited.

Was? Oh yes, was. Because while the trailer presents a sort of whimsical slurry of Juno meets Charlie Bartlett meets the fun parts of Lolita (What? There are fun parts!), the truth of the movie, if you do a little digging, is something much darker in tone and content. While something dark is alluded to (is that a flash of Josh Lucas naked. . .with a gun. . .and. . .weeping?), the plunkety indie music and quippy dialogue paints a very different picture.
