The newest Mummy film has recruited one of the stars from the Transformers franchise as its new lead, but it doesn't sound like he will be the titular Monster. In December 2024, shortly before the release of Nosferatu and Wolf Man, it was announced that Evil Dead Rise director Lee Cronin was set to make TheMummy reboot for the newly combined Blumhouse and Atomic Monster. However, Cronin's take on the character would not be an official Universal Monster: instead, a version was created for New Line Cinema, the same studio behind Evil Dead Rise.
Deadline now reports that Jack Reynor has been cast in the lead role for The Mummy. The Deadline story states that Reynor is not expected to wear the mummy bandages, implying he will be the human protagonist that the Mummy terrorizes. He may not be returning to Star Wars (yet), but it looks like the Force is bringing together Oscar Isaac and Rogue One director/Andor creator Tony Gilroy. The actor is reportedly set to star in Gilroy's next feature film, a drama about a cello player — though there is very little known about the movie beyond that. If true, it would mark the first time the duo have worked together. But given the talent involved, we could absolutely see it not being the last time these two talented storytellers unite in creative collaboration.
Per the folks over at ComingSoon.net, the film is only in the script stage, with details being kept under wraps. There are, reportedly, several interested studio players involved in negotiations to grab the distribution and/or production rights to the film, currently titled Behemoth. Beyond that, your best guess is as good as ours as far as what will happen.

More than 200 years after “Frankenstein” was published, Mary Shelley has never been hotter. The hulking character that the Gothic novelist conjured up — half man, half beast, all monster — will feature prominently in two upcoming movies from A-list directors that debut mere months apart.
The first, “Frankenstein,” is courtesy of Guillermo del Toro, a master of the macabre whose credits include “The Shape of Water” and “Crimson Peak.” It launches on Netflix in November and stars Mia Goth and Oscar Isaac. The second, “The Bride,” will be directed by Maggie Gyllenhaal, who is following up her acclaimed feature directing debut, “The Lost Daughter,” with a $90 million creature feature inspired by “The Bride of Frankenstein.” Warner Bros. will open this one in theaters on March 6, 2026 with Jessie Buckley and Christian Bale playing the undead couple. It was originally slated to debut on September 26, 2025, but the studio pushed it back this week, giving...

An Academy Award winner is checking into the Arcadian for Only Murders in the Building Season 5. Not Meryl Streep, though, because she is a three-time Oscar winner and already checked in. Ever since Only Murders in the Building debuted on Hulu in 2021, it has become a huge cultural hit and seems like a rarity in the age of streaming. It has been able to maintain a constant yearly schedule and also managed to attract big-name stars for guest spots and recurring roles, which include Mel Brooks, Matthew Broderick, Paul Rudd, Tina Fey, Ron Howard, Eugene Levy, Zach Galifianakis, Eva Longoria, and, of course, the aforementioned Streep, to name a few. Now, a Quentin Tarantino regular joins the cast.
Variety reports that Christoph Waltz has joined the cast of Only Murders in the Building Season 5. Waltz's role is currently under wraps, but it will be a recurring role in the filming season.

Christoph Waltz has boarded the cast of “Only Murders in the Building” Season 5.
The “Inglourious Basterds” star will join the Hulu series in a recurring guest star role when “Only Murders in the Building” returns for its fifth installment. Like each season of “Only Murders,” details regarding Waltz’s role and storyline are being kept under wraps. Production is currently underway on the new season.
Waltz will appear alongside “Only Murders in the Building” stars Martin Short, Steve Martin, Selena Gomez and Michael Cyril Creighton, who most recently traveled to Los Angeles in Season 4 to shepherd the film adaptation of their podcast. After introducing Tea Leoni as Sofia Caccimelio at the end of Season 4, co-creator and showrunner John Hoffman told TheWrap the next season would also see Leoni returning.

From the beginning, Star Trek presented a hopeful and optimistic view of humanity's future, where reason and enlightenment prevailed. It was never intended to be scary, at least not directly. Despite that, a number of episodes could be quite frightening, either as a means of generating drama, or because they explored ideas with unsettling implications. The best of them use horror as a fulcrum for Star Trek's usual fare of moral philosophizing amid the backdrop of a mysterious universe, but even the also-rans tend to turn their creepy premises into an entertaining hour of television.

“Mickey 17,” Bong Joon Ho’s wacky sci-fi satire, is shaping up to be a major money loser for Warner Bros. following its rocky box office reception.
The film, which stars Robert Pattinson as a clone who works menial jobs in a futuristic dystopia, will likely lose between $75 million to $80 million during its theatrical run, according to three sources with knowledge of the economics of movies on this scale. A source close to the film disputes those estimates, saying the true losses are “significantly less.”
After two weeks of release, “Mickey 17” has earned $35.7 million domestically and $92.2 million worldwide. The film was projected to end its theatrical run with $175 million to $180 million worldwide — including $52 million domestically and $123 million internationally. But those estimates were recently revised down to $143 million worldwide — including $46 domestically and $97 million internationally. “Mickey 17’s” breakeven point is roughly $300 million. Most movies don’t earn a profit purely...

In a massive shakeup yesterday, Warner Bros. Studios took a look at its slate of upcoming movies and decided to rearrange a lot of things, which unfortunately is bad news for horror fans, as Maggie Gyllenhall's The Bride! has now been pushed back to 2026. Starring Christian Bale as Frankenstein's monster, the film was originally slated to be released on Oct. 3, 2025, then got bumped up to Sept. 26, and now Variety notes that it won’t be coming out until March 6, 2026.
Set in 1930s Chicago, The Bride! is a musical-horror hybrid that sees Frankenstein ask Dr. Euphronius to help create a companion. They give life to a murdered woman as the Bride, sparking romance, police interest, and radical social change. Starring Jessie Buckley as the titular Bride, the film also features the likes of Penélope Cruz, Peter Sarsgaard, and Annette Bening.
Gyllenhaal herself is an accomplished actress, and while The Bride!

Paul Thomas Anderson and Leonardo DiCaprio are ready to go to war.
On Thursday, Warner Bros. released the first teaser trailer for One Battle After Another, the acclaimed filmmaker and star's first-ever collaboration. According to the studio, the full trailer will arrive next week.
Little is officially known about One Battle After Another – so much so that its title wasn’t revealed until Wednesday night when it was reported the studio had shifted the project's release date from August to the fall (more on that below). However, online scuttlebutt suggests the project, Anderson’s most expensive ever, is at least inspired by Thomas Pynchon’s Vineland. That novel — set in 1984 but with flashbacks to the 1960s to contextualize the cultural clash in America during those decades — focuses on a former hippie named Zoyd Wheeler and his 14-year-old daughter as they attempt to stay ahead of a villainous federal official. Several major movies have suffered release date delays, including Oscar-winner and Hollywood icon Leonardo DiCaprio’s upcoming mysterious crime thriller. Ted Sarandos, the head of Netflix, wonders if the threatened cinema industry might harbour some kind of bias against his company. Hmmm.
Netflix loves statistics. The company thrives on numbers, using its endless reams of data to commission projects, axe projects, determine payouts and see into the future. Okay, maybe not the last one.
But for a company so adept at reading the digital tea leaves that it has rocketed from humble beginnings as a mail-out DVD service to become bigger than any of its famous old rivals, CEO Ted Sandaros seems to be having a little trouble deciphering a rather simple data set.
Netflix has picked up more awards recognition at the Oscars each year for the last three years, and yet still, that top prize of Best Picture eludes the company. Even in the years when it seemed like a shoo-in, such as when Roma or The Power Of The Dog...

Warner Bros. is getting its ducks in a row before it presents its upcoming slate to theater owners at this year’s CinemaCon, which gets underway March 31 in Las Vegas.
Wednesday evening, the studio announced a number of high-profile changes to its release calendar, led by news that director Maggie Gyllenhaal‘s Frankenstein pic The Bride is relocating from Sept. 26, 2025, to March 6, 2026. The film stars Christian Bale opposite Jessie Buckley. The Bride has had a challenging postproduction period, according to sources, though others deny any challenges and note its post-process has nothing to do with the new date.
The studio says the movie is the sort of event film that will benefit from hitting theaters timed to the beginning of spring holidays and school breaks. This does not preclude the film from being an awards contender despite such an early release date.

Warner Bros. enacted some significant housekeeping around its film release schedule on Wednesday, including a new date for the highly anticipated Paul Thomas Anderson film starring Leonardo DiCaprio.
Now officially titled “One Battle After Another,” the Anderson project is shrouded in mystery but said to be an American crime thriller. Previously dated for Aug. 8, the film will now open nationwide on Sept. 26.
Insiders familiar with the movie said the minor push comes as the studio helps outfit U.S. movie theaters with VistaVision projection systems to accommodate their director’s vision. A move out of August to late September also squeaks “One Battle” out of the summer box office season and places it closer to the awards corridor, Anderson’s natural habitat.. Will “Snow White” be the fairest of them all at the box office?
Disney’s live-action remake of the 1937 animated classic is targeting $45 million to $55 million from 4,200 North American theaters in its opening weekend. Internationally, the film is estimated to collect $50 million for a global start above $100 million. Those ticket sales will easily be enough to lead the domestic box office, which is coming off the worst weekend of 2025 as Paramount’s action comedy “Novocaine” topped charts with just $8.7 million.
Based on projections, “Snow White” won’t reach the initial box office heights of prior Disney live-action remakes, including 2023’s “The Little Mermaid” ($95 million opening weekend), 2016’s “Jungle Book” ($103 million) and a trio of billion-dollar smashes, 2019’s “The Lion King” ($191 million) and “Aladdin” ($91 million), 2017’s “Beauty and the Beast” ($174 million). Instead, “Snow White” is tracking a similar start to 2019’s “Dumbo,” which took off with $45 million, only to stall out at $353 million,...

While many streaming services are shrinking their once vast catalogs of classic films in favor of chasing original content, Tubi is becoming an increasingly attractive option. Although it's a free service, it has a surprisingly well-rounded collection of older films, especially in the horror department. While you may not always be able to find the most recent horror films fresh from their theatrical run (although they do have some newer movies), they have a well-curated selection of offerings that run across several different subgenres.
It doesn't matter whether you're a fan of zombie films, Italian giallo, slashers, or goofy 1980s horror comedies -- Tubi has you covered. And whether you're a horror movie amateur looking to catch up on some classics or a long-standing fan of the genre hoping to find something a little more obscure, there's plenty to catch your eye here. Dim the lights and make sure you...

As 2025 kicks off, several book to movie adaptations can be expected to move forward to completion, some with release dates already slated for the quarter century marker.

Edgar Wright’s The Running Man and Josh Boone’s Regretting You, which will likely follow in the footsteps of the Blake Lively-starring It Ends With Us and further pave a path for future Collen Hoover film adaptations like Verity and Reminders of Him.

The year 2024 was a significant one for horror movies, highlighted by a successful awards season and dominance by the genre at the box office. Notably, the Oscars recognized four films within the genre, signaling a growing appreciation for horror’s artistic merit.
The Academy Awards have historically marginalized horror films, with The Silence of the Lambs in 1991 a notable exception. Its “Big Five” sweep — Best Picture, Director, Actor, Actress, and Adapted Screenplay — remains a unique achievement. However, the recent nominations of films like The Substance and Nosferatu indicate a growing willingness to acknowledge the genre, signaling a potential change in the awards landscape.
The ‘Silence of the Lambs’ cast and production winners hold their Oscars at the 64th Academy Awards in 1992. The film won five Oscars.
Horror at the Academy Awards was first recognized in 1974, when William Friedkin’s groundbreaking The Exorcist received a remarkable 10 nominations including Best Picture. While it won just two awards,...

There’s an old saying that goes, “A house built on sand won’t stand long,” but it seems Hollywood is trying to test just how shaky a foundation can be before it crumbles. Warner Bros. is knee-deep in risky territory with high-budget projects like Mickey 17 and The Bride!, and yet, here we are with the spotlight on the latter—the one that has the Hollywood elite shaking their heads.

Maggie Gyllenhaal has been handed a $100 million+ budget for her take on a Frankenstein-esque story starring Christian Bale. But one Hollywood insider thinks it’s a leap too far. Gyllenhaal’s only other directorial project was an arthouse film, and now she’s stepping into the world of major budgets and even bigger expectations.

Universal Horror has taken a strange turn in the last decade. After seeing plans for a Dark Universe crumble to dust like a vampire in the sun when Tom Cruise’s The Mummy bombed, the idea of a shared monster universe was quickly abandoned in favor of something that has – mostly – proven to be more interesting to audiences. Movies that take classic creatures of the night and put them into new settings have led to success with The Invisible Man, Abigail, and Nicolas Cage’s Renfield. Next up is Maggie Gyllenhaal’s The Bride! but rumored first reactions are not exactly electrifying for its box office chances.
Just like several other releases in recent years, The Bride! is under immediate pressure from another take on the same story being on the horizon. It is not the only Frankenstein-centric movie that is being released this year, with Guillermo del Toro...

Dead Lover has become the inaugural feature acquisition from a new distribution venture between Cartuna and Dweck Productions, marking one of the first deals from the 2025 SXSW Film Festival.
The film from writer-director Grace Glowicki was purchased by Cartuna x Dweck out of SXSW, where the movie made its Texas debut on March 9 after its world premiere at Sundance’s Midnight section earlier this year. Glowicki stars alongside Ben Petrie, Leah Doz and Lowen Morrow in the Frankenstein-themed project that blends elements of horror, comedy and romance.
Dead Lover stars Glowicki as a gravedigger whose whirlwind affair with her perfect match (Petrie) ends tragically when he drowns at sea. This leads her to attempt to resurrect him through cutting-edge scientific experiments.
Cartuna x Dweck is planning a theatrical release, although details about a release date have not yet been shared. Glowicki (Tito) helmed the feature from a script she co-wrote with Petrie.

In the first sale of the SXSW Film Festival, Grace Glowicki’s Midnight movie “Dead Lover” has found theatrical distribution from a new boutique distribution venture, Cartuna x Dweck, which is a partnership between physical media company Cartuna and Dweck Productions, the company behind films such as “Christmas Eve at Miller’s Point” and “We’re All Going to the World’s Fair.”
Cartuna x Dweck acquired North American rights to “Dead Lover” following its Texas premiere at SXSW, and this will be the first release from the new venture, as the two companies have quietly been building an initial slate of films to be announced later this year. No release date for “Dead Lover” was announced.

The earliest reactions are in for The Bride, but they are not a good sign for the film. Maggie Gyllenhaal's new movie is one of two Frankenstein adaptations this year, with the other helmed by Oscar-winner Guillermo del Toro. The Bride will take the world of Frankenstein to 1930s Chicago, where the titular character asks Dr. Euphronius to help create a companion, bringing a murdered woman back to life. Its leading cast includes Jessie Buckley, Christian Bale, Jake Gyllenhaal, Penélope Cruz, Peter Sarsgaard, John Magaro, and Annette Bening.
Per Puck, the early reactions have been revealed for The Bride. It's not looking positive, with the head of one production company saying, "to give her [director Maggie Gyllenhaal] anything more than $15 million to make the movie is irresponsible, as far as I’m concerned." Directed by Yorgos Lanthimos, “Poor Things” is a madcap romp through a woman’s journey of self-discovery. This marks the filmmaker’s third collaboration with Emma Stone after she starred in “The Favourite” and a silent short, “Bleat.” The film bagged the prestigious Golden Lion at the 2023 Venice Film Festival and garnered Stone a Golden Globe, BAFTA, and her second Oscar. Lanthimos assembles rock-solid creative teams in every department to present a wild, spunky, and dazzlingly inventive vision.
An adaptation of Alasdair Gray’s 1992 novel, the film is a revisionist spin on the Frankenstein template where its heroine, Bella Baxter (Emma Stone), gradually discovers morality, consciousness, and what constitutes humanity. The film traces her growth from being a fully grown woman with the intelligence of a baby to a complex, sentient individual who is finally enlightened by all the baggage and despair of humanity.

The 97th Academy Awards just ended, but it's never too early to start thinking about next year's Oscars. Awards Magnet hosts Christopher Rosen and Joyce Eng make their ridiculously early 2026 Oscar predictions.
The 2025 slate is more akin to the 2023 one than last year's with some big names and past Oscar players in the mix. James Cameron will unfurl Avatar: Fire and Ash in December. Leonardo DiCaprio leads Paul Thomas Anderson's One Battle After Another. The filmmaker has 11 Oscar nominations and zero wins. Will this be the one to break the duck? Chloé Zhao is back with an adaptation of Maggie O'Farrell's novel Hamnet starring Jessie Buckley and Paul Mescal. Both actors have another film in play: Maggie Gyllenhaal's The Bride! for the former and Oliver Hermanus' The History of Sound for the latter. As major streaming services are looking to cut their annual content budgets, Netflix is looking to grow theirs. In a recent Morgan Stanley-hosted investor conference, Netflix's Chief Financial Officer Spencer Neumann revealed the streaming giant will be spending $18 billion on content in 2025, and could grow it further in the future. He said:
"We look at it every quarter, every year and iterate. We are not anywhere near a ceiling. We also balance having enough for the long-term investment to continue to drive growth. I do think we are still just getting started."

When you think of the filmography by Alfred Hitchcock, the first words that no doubt come to mind are "horro" and "suspense." Hitchcock had a skillset that let him manipulate the audience like no other filmmaker at that time. Or arguably since. And it seems Hitchcock could also execute the action genre just as flawlessly. In fact, so good was his affinity for action movie thrills that Academy Award-winning director Guillermo del Toro believes the director achieved the "most perfect action ever made."
Guillermo del Toro shared his love of cinema by participating in the Turner Classic Movies selection for March 2025. He chose films like John Ford's The Quiet Man, 1951's An American in Paris, and 1979's Being There. When it came time to speak about Hitchcock's 1959 movie North by Northwest starring Cary Grant, Martin Landau, James Mason, and Eva Marie Saint, del Toro declared:

People like to say, “It’s never too early” to do something, but that’s not always true. For example, it’s too early to predict next year’s Academy Awards before this year’s Academy Awards. But the 2025 Oscars are over, so now it’s time to start making predictions about what films will contend for the Oscars next year.
It’s already looking like the 98th Academy Awards will have a stronger field than the 97th. Blue chip filmmakers are returning from long breaks with exciting casts in tow. Each Safdie brother has their own A24 sports drama. There’s a new Avatar movie. It’s going to be an exciting, unpredictable year.

Nearly two decades after its release, Guillermo del Toro’s R-rated fantasy film Pan’s Labyrinth is still considered among the best in its genre. The coming-of-age movie follows a young girl escaping her harsh reality by visiting a mystical world.

The film, considered one of del Toro’s best, is the first of the writer/director’s projects to appear on the streaming service. Stars: Takeshi Kitano, Tadanobu Asano, Nao Ômor | Written and Directed by Takeshi Kitano
To western audiences, Takeshi Kitano is most likely known for one of two things; his mesmerising presence in Battle Royale, or for hosting the game show Takeshi’s Castle. There is also the chance that some may know him for his supporting role in 2017’s unremarkable Ghost in the Shell… In his native Japan, he is better known as a comedian and TV host, along with being a well-regarded director who was once dubbed as “the true successor” to the legendary Akira Kurosawa.
For his latest film, Broken Rage, Kitano blends together many of these elements for a truly fascinating work. He stars as Mouse, an assassin whose regular routine involves receiving an envelope at his local café. They contain instructions from a mysterious boss for Mouse’s next target, who he executes before moving along in plain sight.

Ryan Reynolds is a fan-favorite actor, whose role as a leading actor grossed over $4.4 billion at the worldwide box office. Now synonymous with the role of Deadpool, the actor is easily defined by his cheek-in-tongue, self-deprecating humor.
Over the years, Reynolds made a name for himself with roles that often poked fun at himself, whether in action, comedy, or more. While the actor proved his range in films like 2008's Fireflies in the Garden, 2010's Buried, and 2014's Voices, it was his comedy roles that won the public over and enchanted the critics. However, in a new episode of Brotherly Love Podcast, hosted by actor Matthew Lawrence and his brothers Joey and Andy, Matthew opened up about his experience with Reynolds on the set of 1998's Boltneck, where the Canadian actor reportedly "really upset" the crew.

The arrival of Shrek in 2001 symbolized the pinnacle of animated storytelling until that point, as well as demonstrating the existence of animation studios other than Disney and Pixar. The film made it a point to satirize and subvert the classic fairy tales depicted in earlier Disney movies. Over the years, fans have reflected on Shrek not only as a meme but as a genuinely enjoyable film.
Shrek is an excellent movie by itself, but its sequel, Shrek 2, was arguably even better than the first installment in the franchise. While many animated sequels these days are just retreading the same ground covered by their predecessors, Shrek 2 is one of the few that managed to tell an entirely new story. Shrek 2 added great characters to the franchise, dealt with more expansive themes and lore, and generally improved upon Shrek in every way.

If there is one thing guaranteed to kill off many fan dreams, then Hollywood’s obsession with money and copyrights is top of the list. This is something that Venom creator Todd McFarlane touched on while addressing how he would love to see Venom enter the MCU and face off with Spider-Man. While the Marvel characters did come together in Tobey Maguire’s third Spider-Man movie, the film was generally considered a bit of a mess, and it certainly didn’t allow Venom to live up to his full potential.

Guillermo del Toro has a slew of unproduced projects, as is the case with most artists. There are usually multiple project ideas that are being developed simultaneously, but one of them getting green-lit usually means that the other one will not happen, thanks to time and resource constraints. Del Toro saw himself exit one Tom Cruise project for another film that is yet to see the light of day.

However, the film that he was starring in would have been the perfect counterbalance for his blunder with The Mummy. Despite this film being in the works way before the Dark Universe was even a thought, the film would have been the perfect antithesis to The Mummy, thanks to its content, especially in the hands of Guillermo del Toro.

Born as a reflection of our waking reality, Science Fiction is more than just a mere futuristic view of life as we know it, but it acts as a warning of it. The Science Fiction Genre has been a pivotal one in human history. While some often credit Mary Shelley's 1818 novel ‘Frankenstein’ as the first true science fiction novel, themes, and tropes that are characteristic of modern science fiction can be traced to the 2nd-century novel ‘Verae Historiae’ or ‘A True Story’ by Syrian satirist Lucian of Samosata. Regardless, this speculative fiction has evolved alongside humanity, drawing inspiration from its technological advancement to focus on potential scientific advancements to explore complex societal issues, philosophical questions, and humanity's potential future. Many, especially nowadays, see Science Fiction as a mere entertainment genre that alongside fantasy acts as a form of escapism. Yet, upon further analysis, it can function as a tool...

This article contains spoilers for "Cobra Kai" Season 6 Part 3.
And there we have it. "Cobra Kai" has bowed out for the final time, with Season 6 Part 3 bringing Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka) and Daniel Larusso's (Ralph Macchio) 41-year journey together to an end. But along the way, other fighters who were just as determined and devoted to being the best around joined them on their path, leading to some frankly outlandish events. During its six incredible and ludicrous seasons, we witnessed mass high school brawls, arson attacks, and an actual prison break. Three people have even died because of the (checks notes) karate school war that should've ended years ago. Nevertheless, peacetime appears to have finally come to the valley now that "Cobra Kai" has drawn to a conclusion. All that's left to do now is decide who got the best send-off because of it.

‘The Narrow Road to the Deep North’ Review: Jacob Elordi Gives a Soulful, Years-Spanning Performance
Six months after director Justin Kurzel confirmed himself as a poet of machismo with 2024’s “The Order,” and six months before star Jacob Elordi will unleash his own take on Dr. Victor’s monster on the 2025 fall festivals, the Australian duo have dropped an altogether unexpected Frankenstein in frigid Berlin. Directed by Kurzel, and led by Elordi, the upcoming miniseries “The Narrow Road to the Deep North” plays as an intriguing genre mash-up that fuses the burly head of a war-drama onto the lithe body of a primetime soap.
Or perhaps the other way around — as the filmmakers premiered just two episodes of the eventual five-part series at the Berlin Film Festival, raising more questions than answers by previewing a time-hopping narrative that refuses easy classification.
Adapted from Richard Flanagan’s prizewinning novel, the prestige drama is less ambiguous about its protagonist, mind you. We follow rakish doctor Dorrigo Evans across three distinct timelines,...
