With a new trailer confirmed for 10 Am Est tomorrow, Lionsgate has shared a handful of brand new stills from Ballerina, their upcoming action-thriller starring Academy Award-nominee Ana de Armas (Knives Out; No Time to Die; Ghosted) in the lead role as Eve Macarro.

While plot details remain mostly under wraps, the film's official synopsis reads, "Taking place during the events of John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum, the film follows Eve Macarro who is beginning her training in the assassin traditions of the Ruska Roma."

Since Ballerina is set inbetween the events of John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum and John Wick: Chapter 4, it will also feature franchise mainstays Keanu Reeves as John Wick, Ian McShane as Winston Scott, and the late Lance Reddick, in his final on-screen appearance, as Charon.

It's safe to say that fans of The Umbrella Academy were sad to see their beloved hit Netflix series take its bow last year after four (or maybe three) acclaimed seasons. The superhero show — which was often laugh-out-loud funny, by the way — featured quite the talented ensemble including Tom Hopper (Space Cadet) and Academy Award-nominee Elliot Page (Juno). Speaking of, Page's fan-favorite character Vanya had a standout character arc in the midst of Season 2, where she was transported back to the 1960s and ultimately met the acquaintance of Sissy (Marin Ireland). Netflix has seen great success in backing supernatural dramas, with series like Stranger Things becoming absolute tentpoles for the streamer. Recently, they have commissioned Jesse McKeown – the writer on another supernatural hit, The Umbrella Academy – to write a new show in that genre.

Netflix has ordered a new six-part supernatural drama limited series set to be filmed in Newfoundland in Canada.

Deadline and The Hollywood Reporter broke the news of the new limited series today with a quote from Netflix Canada’s content directors, Danielle Woodrow and Tara Woodbury. They said, “Jesse’s bold, ambitious vision offers thrills galore, with the heart of a family drama. We can’t wait to transport our members to coastal Newfoundland with this timely story about community, resilience, and adaptability.”

Plot details are scarce, but the trades state that the series will be set in a remote town in Newfoundland, Canada’s easternmost province. That town is “terrorized by a mysterious sea creature, and a hard-bitten fisherman must fight to protect his family, his community, and his vanishing way of life.”

The series has yet to be titled but is being helmed by Jesse McKeown.

Netflix has greenlit an untitled supernatural creature series from Jesse McKeown, a veteran screenwriter on hit TV series like The Umbrella Academy and 19-2.

But one series stands out above all others. That would be Squid Game Season 2. It led all series in views (and also amassed 619.9 million viewing hours). What are the key points that Netflix has cited as being the most important for this data drop? Netflix reiterated that Engagement (time spent watching) is the best metric to gauge member satisfaction and that this data drop covers ~99% of all video watch time on Netflix and that no single title accounts for more than 1% of total Netflix viewing.

Squid Game S2 had the most hours viewed (0.7% of total viewing), and their total watch time for this period of July to December 2024 was 94B hours (5% increase YoY). Their most-viewed series was Squid Game S2 (87M views) despite premiering only 6 days before year-end.

Based on her 2014 short film of the same name, the project is being developed under her production company, Jingletown Films. It has been selected for CineMart at the International Film Festival Rotterdam, where Dunye is looking for international co-producers.

She came up with the idea for this ‘sci-fi trans erotic thriller‘ during the pandemic while rewatching classic films. Thirteen years after “Mummy Is Coming,” American filmmaker Cheryl Dunye (“The Watermelon Woman”) is gearing up to produce a new feature film with “Black Is Blue” through her production company Jingletown Films. The film, loosely based on her eponymous 2014 short, is one of the projects selected at this year’s CineMart, the co-production market of the International Film Festival Rotterdam.

Four new actors have just been added to the cast of The Odyssey, the next feature film from Oscar-winning Oppenheimer helmer Christopher Nolan.

Per The Hollywood Reporter, The Umbrella Academy star Elliot Page is one of the latest actors to join The Odyssey. This marks a reunion with Nolan, as Page previously appeared in the director's hit 2010 movie Inception. Also reuniting with the revered filmmaker is Himesh Patel (The Franchise), who appeared in 2020's Tenet. Bill Irwin (Legion), who voiced Tars the robot in 2014's Interstellar, has also been cast in The Odyssey. Meanwhile, Samantha Morton (The Walking Dead) is getting her first chance to work with Nolan as the fourth new casting addition for the upcoming movie.

Christopher Nolan has is taking four more actors on his hero’s journey — and most are familiar faces to his world.

Elliot Page, Himesh Patel, Bill Irwin and Samantha Morton round out the supporting cast of The Odyssey, Nolan’s adaptation of the epic poem by Homer that he is making for Universal.

Page is a Nolan veteran, having the memorable role of architecture grad student Ariadne in 2010’s Inception. Patel too is a Nolan alum, with a role in 2020’s Tenet, while Irwin had the memorable voice role of Tars the robot in Interstellar.

Universal had no comment on the castings. The quartet of actors join a cast including Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Zendaya, Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong’o, Anne Hathaway, Charlize Theron, Jon Bernthal and Benny Safdie.

The studio describes the project as a “mythic action epic shot across the world across the world using brand new Imax film technology.

Netflix's The Witcher series may be coming to an end after the next two seasons, but showrunner Lauren S. Hissrich still has plans to expand the franchise with more spin-offs. The Witcher, based on the best-selling fantasy novels by Andrzej Sapkowski, debuted on Netflix in 2019, with Henry Cavill in the leading role as Geralt of Rivia, a mutated monster hunter for hire. Cavill returned for two more seasons, but exited the show after Season 3, with creative differences rumored to be the reason. Liam Hemsworth is stepping in for the final two seasons, the first of which is expected to be released next year. The franchise has also included several live-action (Blood Origins) and animated (Nightmare of the Wolf) spin-offs, with very varying degrees of success. The nominations have been revealed for the 2025 GLAAD Media Awards, and one critically acclaimed LGBTQ+ film is notably absent from the pack of nominees.

The annual awards ceremony will return for a 36th year in 2025. According to GLAAD, it’s goal is to “recognize and honor fair, accurate, and inclusive representations of the LGBTQ community in an ever-expanding and media landscape.”

On Wednesday (January 22), the organization revealed the crop of nominees that would be honored at the ceremony. While projects such as Wicked and Queer were notably featured, Netflix’s Emilia Perez was left off the list.

The snub comes after GLAAD declared that the movie, which stars Zoe Saldana, Selena Gomez and trans actress Karla Sofia Gascon, was “not good trans representation” in a November 2024 essay. The story included reviews from transgender film critics and noted that “inauthentic portrayals of trans people are offensive and even dangerous.”

Gravitas Ventures has picked up the U.S. and Canadian rights from Visit Films for Delaney Buffett’s upcoming movie “Adult Best Friends.”

“Adult Best Friends,” which premiered at last year’s Tribeca Film Festival, tells the story of a woman who goes on a weekend trip with her co-dependent best friend, where she intends to break the news that she is getting married. The two friends find their paths diverging in their 30s and the trip takes some unexpected turns, including a chance encounter with a classmate and a bachelor party.

Buffett co-wrote “Adult Best Friends” with her real-life best friend Katie Corwin. The two also star in the film alongside Zachary Quinto (“Brilliant Minds”), Mason Gooding (“Scream”) and Cazzie David (“The Umbrella Academy”).

“Gravitas is thrilled to be releasing Delaney Buffett’s ‘Adult Best Friends’ to North American audiences,” stated Bill Guentzler, Senior VP of Acquisitions and Operations at Gravitas Ventures.

In Q3 2024, following the release of its fourth and final season, the series was Netflix’s second-highest contributor to subscriber acquisition revenue, accounting for approximately 0.8% of acquisition revenue for the quarter.

It’s 2025, and the second season of Netflix’s hit show Wednesday is on its way! Filming wrapped up in Ireland recently, and the show is set to return later this year. While we already know quite a bit about the upcoming season, there are some new cast members to look out for, as has been revealed officially.

Over the holiday break, more details about supporting and minor characters were revealed. The cast lineup is expanding, with several new actors joining Jenna Ortega and the rest of the crew.

Netflix is already ramping up its marketing for the season, though we don’t have an official release date yet. A teaser was even featured during the NFL Games on Christmas Day.

A feature film based on the acclaimed Sony PlayStation video game “Horizon Zero Dawn” is in “early stages” of development as a joint project between Columbia Pictures and PlayStation Productions.

Asad Qizilbash, the head of PlayStation Productions, announced the news as part of Sony’s presentation Monday night at CES 2025.

If you’re not a gamer but the project still sounds familiar, it’s because “Horizon Zero Dawn” was previously announced — back in 2022 — as a Netflix series developed by “The Umbrella Academy” showrunner Steve Blackman in partnership with Michelle Lovretta (“Killjoys”). At some point since then however, the show was quietly shelved.

No reason for the shift from TV series to feature film was given during Qizilbash’s announcement, but it’s notable that in June of 2024, Rolling Stone published an exposé in which Blackman was accused of bullying and other toxic behavior by staff members. Blackman has denied all accusations.

Exclusive: Actress Kate Walsh (Grey’s Anatomy) has boarded The Runt, an Oscar-qualified live-action short film written, directed and produced by Emmy-nominated TV veteran Christy Stratton (Modern Family), as executive producer.
