If you’re like me, one of the most fascinating parts of true crime stories isn’t the crime or the perpetrators but who gets carried along in their mess.
The odds of me being a master criminal are pretty low. The odds of me being victimized or traumatized by being close to a criminal through no doing of my own are pretty high — astronomical, as I’ve already been there.
True Crime shows like Dateline and Death by Fame (two of my favorites) use friend, family, and victim accounts to build a crime narrative, so we know the interest in exploring those people exists. Happy Face is the first scripted series to dig in deep.

If you’ve read reviews, you’ll see that other critics aren’t keen on Happy Face. They consider it pulled in two diametrically opposed directions, often getting mired in what...

The Rocky franchise was given a new lease of life with the Creed franchise, and legendary producer Irwin Winkler recently shared an update on both the next installment of the Michael B. Jordan-led movie series, along with unexpected new details about the upcoming movie looking at how the original Rocky came to be made.
Sylvester Stallone's Rocky movies delivered some knock-out punches before ending up on the canvas after the fifth movie in the franchise. Despite plenty of skepticism, when Creed was released in 2015, the film became instrumental in reviving the saga and giving it a new story to tell. Now fans have been waiting patiently to find out what is happening with Creed VI, and when we spoke to Irwin Winkler, he was happy to share an update on exactly where things are right now. He told us:

With the long-delayed movie finally about to release, Jonathan Majorsis reflecting on his recent controversies and his Hollywood comeback ahead of Magazine Dreams' debut. Following his Emmy-nominated turn in Lovecraft Country, Majors was enjoying a very quick rise to stardom with the likes of the Marvel Cinematic Universe's Kang the Conqueror, who was set to be the next Thanos. Majors' career came to a standstill when he was arrested for a domestic assault report by his now-ex-girlfriend, Grace Jabbari, being fired from the MCU and accused of further abuses and convicted of one count of reckless assault in the third degree and harassment.
Now, with Magazine Dreams officially picked up by Briarcliff Entertainment, Majors has sat down with The Hollywood Reporterfor his first major Hollywood comeback interview. A line from Aaron Sorkin always pops into my head while watching shows like Long Bright River. During his run on The West Wing, he wrote, “The things we do to women.” The United States has the third-highest maternal death rate among developed nations. Opioid use has grown by 1,000% among women since 1999. Finally, one out of every six women will be sexually assaulted, and women have a higher likelihood of becoming homeless.
Long Bright River touches on all these subjects to paint a picture that no one wants for their daughter. Women who become addicted to drugs like heroin, a substitute for opioids, while living on the streets often turn to sex work to chase their next hit. That serves as the backdrop for an engaging story about a serial killer and a woman no one cares about.

Armie Hammer has been on something of an honesty tour recently, revealing deeply personal information about himself to order to counteract any lies that might be told about him. The actor, whose career was derailed by multiple women making claims of abuse against him, had those charges dropped due to insufficient evidence, which means he's now mounting a comeback. And he's doing it in the most unconventional of ways: by exposing what others might keep secret via his podcast (or the podcasts of others). This latest tidbit? A tale about how Hammer once tried to hook up with men.
During a recent episode of his HammerTime Podcast, Hammer, who famously starred in the critically acclaimed gay romance film, Call Me By Your Name, admitted that he "tried hooking up with a dude one time" but it didn't quite go as planned. The actor went on to say that "it was hilarious,...

The latest shakeup in the world of media has resulted in Disney laying off nearly 6% of its total staff across ABC News and its TV division. Per Variety, via a source close to the matter, the 6% figure means that about 200 workers across both branches will be losing their jobs.
Also, as part of the cuts, the company is discontinuing its FiveThirtyEight (538) data unit that had been part of ESPN before being absorbed by ABC News. The outlet had become a top source for analyzing polling data before various elections in the U.S. Disney did not make executives available for comment, Variety states.
The ABC News cuts are due to combining different staffing groups through moves that the company previously announced. For instance, all units of the ABC staple Good Morning America, including its daily morning news show as well as GMA3 and ABC News’ overnight broadcasts, were previously combined...

“1923” has returned.
Taylor Sheridan’s “Yellowstone” prequel series, which followed “1883,” first premiered back in December 2022. By comparison, that was around when “Avatar: The Way of Water” hit theaters. That feels like an eon ago, right? But the point is: it’s back and we are very excited.
But if you have never watched “1923” or if it’s been a while, let us help refresh things with a recap of the cast and characters from the series. Ready to head back to the ranch?

Sylvester Stallone had some fun on social media by posting concept art of himself in a reboot of the legendary film The Godfather. While no such project is in development for real, some of Sly's fans found themselves intrigued by the possibility.
On Instagram, Stallone posted an image of a faux movie poster for a new take on The Godfather. Featuring Stallone suited up in a tux with a portrait of a large family behind him, the image imagines what Stallone might look like as Don Corleone. Appearing to have been generated by artificial intelligence, the quality of the image leaves a lot to be desired, as it's not the most flattering image of Stallone. The title logo is also a bit skewee, and the proposed name of the movie, The Godfather: Part the Family Legacy, makes the concept art that much more odd. In the caption, Stallone wrote, "Not Real!

Paramount+ is known for hosting some of the best TV shows on any streaming platform, and in January 2025, the lineup remains just as strong as ever. The first month of 2025 sees the arrival of the original Matlock TV series as it joins the new Kathy Bates reboot. This classic courtroom drama, starring Andy Griffith, includes all nine seasons. Sci-fi fans get a treat in January, as the new Star Trek series Section 31 premieres on January 24. Michelle Yeoh reprises her role as Emperor Philippa Georgiou from Star Trek: Discovery.
The biggest news coming in December was that Paramount+ is removing several TV shows from its streaming service. This isn't anything new since both Paramount and Showtime removed several shows last year. The streaming service axed several Nickelodeon shows, including Doug, Blue's Room, Kung-Fu Panda: Legends of Awesomeness, Fanboy & Chum Chum, The Penguins of Madagascar, Big Time Rush, and Breadwinners (via Us Weekly). Television and streaming have all but taken over the screen sector, and the best miniseries to binge make TV more accessible. Without the need to invest in a long-term commitment, miniseries offer the same snappy storytelling, dramatic beats, and satisfying payoff that traditional TV does. The best miniseries have viewers hooked from start to finish, making sure that the story is short and sweet. Keeping the story refined and exciting ensures that viewers remain engaged the whole way through, which is why the best miniseries to watch over a weekend are often only a few episodes long.
In this way, some viewers feel that the best miniseries on Netflix and others are better than traditional television, where the story can stray too far from its original concept and beloved characters often leave too soon. The highly anticipated film adaptation of Colleen Hoover’s “It Ends With Us” is now streaming on Netflix after first hitting theaters this summer, and it’s got a star-studded cast.
After initial announcements of Blake Lively playing the 23-year-old Lily Bloom, fans of the book weren’t convinced that Justin Baldoni’s adaptation would live up to the hype. Baldoni, who plays Lily’s love interest, Ryle, also directed and produced the film with his production company Wayfarer.
Both Hoover and Baldoni publicly stated that it was a joint decision to age up the characters, and one they hoped would make the story of domestic violence more universally accessible to a greater range of women.
“When we chose to partner with Sony and turn this into a major motion picture, obviously you need a movie star, [Lively] was one of the first names that was brought up, and all of...

It's often been said that Hollywood loves a remake, but there are still some classics that audiences agree should be left alone. Occasionally, there are some exciting movie remakes and reboots that can update beloved stories for modern audiences. However, these types of movies are the outliers. Mostly, audiences are sketpical of remakes, and they have every reason to be so, given how some of these projects have flopped in the past.
There's a common sentiment that movie remakes can detract from the brilliance of the original, or at least taint people's memories of them. Remakes like The Ladykillers, Oldboy and Dumbo have all been derided for the way they missed the point of the originals. Some remakes seem like terrible ideas as soon as they are announced, since not all movies need the remake treatment, even if they're decades old.

With 1923 coming back for a second season, it's very possible that Spencer Dutton's death could be a storyline, and actor Brandon Skenlar has some insight into how it could happen. Set in the universe created by Taylor Sheridan, 1923 is the second Yellowstone prequel spinoff, and depicts the trials and tribulations of the Dutton family in the titular year. At the center of it all are Jacob (Harrison Ford) and Cara Dutton (Helen Mirren), who maintain their family homestead in Prohibition-era Montana as the Great Depression looms large.
Jacob and Cara have no children, but raised their orphaned nephews, John Sr. (James Badge Dale) and Spencer (Brandon Skenlar) as their own. While John Sr. dies a tragic death in 1923 season 1, Spencer is living abroad, working as a big-game hunter in Africa. Most of Spencer's storyline is about his romance with Alexandra (Julia Schalepfer), a high-society British woman he meets on his travels.

There are 246 episodes of "Bones," and T.J Thyne starred in everyone one of them. Playing forensic entomologist Jack Hodgins went against the one thing Thyne tried to avoid — namely, becoming a series regular and playing the same character over multiple episodes. But after 12 seasons of the hit Fox procedural, the actor was surely glad to have been a part of such a long-running success.
What's more, it's not as if the show didn't give Thyne enough to work with. In the season 11 episode "The Doom in the Boom," for example, Hodgins became paralyzed from the waist down, which prompted Thyne to go full method in order to portray the character's struggles to adapt to his new reality. Alongside this dramatic moment in his character's story, Hodgins also had a long-running relationship with Angela Montenegro (Michaela Conlin), becoming a husband and father by the series' end.

"The Godfather" is one of the greatest movies ever made, and the story about the making of the film has become the stuff of legend. The behind-the-scenes shenanigans that went into Francis Ford Coppola's American masterpiece have become so ingrained in the popular culture that someone even made an entire TV show about the making of the film ("The Offer," which premiered in 2022). If you're a film buff, you likely know the details: Coppola was still a young director at the time, and he had to fight hard to maintain his specific vision for the project. In the end, Coppola got his way, and "The Godfather" became a box office smash that took home several Oscars. But getting there was not easy.
One of the many clashes Coppola had with the studio, Paramount, involved casting of the film. The cast members of "The Godfather" are so pitch-perfect that it's...

The first trailer for Waltzing With Brando, the new biopic about the iconic Godfather actor has dropped and we are, frankly, blown away by Billy Zane's take on Marlon Brando. The Titanic actor has so completely transformed in the role, it took us more than a few minutes to clock that it even was Billy Zane in the film.
The film, which also stars Napoleon Dynamite star John Heder, the Bill Fishman-directed feature has officially been picked up by Vmi Worldwide for foreign sales, according to exclusive reporting from Variety.

Waltzing With Brando is based on the memoir by Los Angeles-based architect Bernard Judge. In his 2011 book, Waltzing with Brando: Planning a Paradise in Tahiti, Judge recounts his time planning and building a series of rustic bungalows for the iconic actor on a remote Tahitian atoll called Tetiaroa a tiny,...

Everyone knows that The Godfather: Part II is the rare sequel that matches (if not exceeds) the greatness of Francis Ford Coppola's The Godfather. Then there is The Godfather Part III, the quintessential misbegotten sequel that avid fans prefer to erase from their memory. Besides a 2006 video game and a Paramount+ series, The Offer, about the making of the original film, The Godfather has been devoid of IP exploitation. Between Part II and Part III, an unknown quasi-sequel to The Godfather was released with little fanfare, and most people today are completely oblivious to its connection to Mario Puzo's source material. The Sicilian, a 1984 novel by Puzo, takes place in the Corleone universe. However, the film adaptation of the book, directed by Michael Cimino, makes little effort to connect the crime epic to The Godfather saga.

Okay “Marvel maniacs”, are you ready for a deep deep dive into another franchise? After all, it’s been nearly three months since the blockbuster “mash-up” Deadpool And Wolverine. No, this is the second live-action flick this year, after the “so bad it may be good” Madame Web, and while Kraven sharpens his claws for his December attack. And, sorry that vapid vamp Morbius is not returning, although this film’s focus has had better luck with two previous outings in 2018 and 2021. Now, with this third entry, Sony promises...

Al Pacino reveals that he was nearly fired from The Godfather one week into filming. Directed by Francis Ford Coppola, with a script he co-wrote with Mario Puzo based on his novel of the same name, the 1972 film follows the Corleone crime family, led by patriarch Don Vito, focusing on his youngest son, Michael Corleone, from 1945 to 1955 as he evolves from a reluctant outsider to a ruthless mafia boss. Though I'm excited about it, all the hype building for the 'Salem's Lot reboot this year only makes me more disappointed that a relatively recent TV show based on Stephen King's vampire stories wasn't more successful: Chapelwaite. The long-gestating 'Salem's Lot remake is finally coming to Max on October 3, and it's been eagerly awaited by Stephen King fans like me. It tells the story of writer Ben Mears, who returns to his temporary boyhood home of Jerusalem's Lot to write a novel only to discover that a creeping, malevolent evil is taking over the town.
'Salem's Lot was Stephen King's first real foray into the world of vampires, and, as with so many things King, it evolved over time into his own expansive lore. An important part of that lore is the short story "Jerusalem's Lot," which hasn't gotten nearly as many adaptations as 'Salem's Lot.

There is really no cinematic moment more iconic than Francis Ford Coppola's trilogy. The Godfather has become one of the most iconic of film franchises and one that fans continue to come back to. Based on the novel by Mario Puzo, there have been multiple movies, television shows, and more all based on Coppola's films. The show The Offer was about the production of the movie! Now, you can experience the entire franchise on Pluto TV! And just in time to spend the holidays warm and in your home (hopefully without the head of a horse in your bed though).
