Match #1: Jordynne Grace, Masha Slamovich & Sol Ruca def. Wendy Choo, Rosemary & Tasha Steelz The following is courtesy of tnawrestling.com:
The crossover continues as we kick things off with a huge tag team showdown! Knockouts World Champion Jordynne Grace joins forces with Masha Slamovich and Nxt’s Sol Ruca to battle Tasha Steelz, Rosemary and Nxt’s Wendy Choo. After falling victim to the numbers game, Ruca is able to explode out of the corner with a Sol Snatcher to Rosemary. Ruca makes the tag to Slamovich, who goes on the attack. After Steelz delivers a thumb to the eye of Slamovich, Grace tags herself in and puts Steelz away with the Juggernaut Driver.

As Jeezy noted before playing “And Then What” during his NPR Tiny Desk debut, he goes by a lot of names. There’s Jizzle, which he started going by around 2010. There’s also Bling (favored by the Fort Lauderdale crowd) and the two-for-one deal of Snow and Jeezy the Snowman. The most recent addition he tacked onto the list is the title of New York Times Bestseller. The rapper released his first book, Adversity for Sale, last year, but the lessons written in his memoir were in his music first.

Following in the footsteps of recent performances by Juvenile and Scarface, Atlanta trap pioneer Jeezy recently stopped by NPR for his own Tiny Desk Concert.
Backed by a full string section, Jeezy threw it back to his early career with hits from his classic album, Let’s Get It: Thug Motivation 101, before closing out with his 2011 track “Everythang,” capping off the veteran rapper’s rags-to-riches journey.
Jeezy kicked off the six-song set with “Standing Ovation” before moving into other Thug Motivation 101 favorites like “Air Forces,” “Bottom of the Map,” “And Then What,” and “Go Crazy.” Before concluding his performance with “Everythang,” he delivered an uplifting message to the crowd.
“No matter what you going through, just show up and believe in yourself and keep pushing,” Jeezy said. “It’s never easy, but it’s great when you get on the other side of that.” He added, “Once you get on top,...

Italy’s Taormina Film Festival kicks off its 69th edition Friday evening against the backdrop of its landmark Teatro Antico amphitheatre with a “Pavarotti Forever” benefit event headlined by Placido Domingo and Vittorio Grigolo.
It’s not the typical opening for a film festival, but it is in keeping with the eclectic programming of incoming artistic director Barrett Wissman, whose interview with Deadline on his plans for the festival can be read here.
Much is riding on the edition, with Wissman being brought in to raise its local and international profile after a turbulent decade, which was compounded by the Covid pandemic.
Topping the bill over the first weekend is the Italian premiere of Indiana Jones and the Dial Of Destiny in the presence of Harrison Ford, Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Mads Mikkelsen. It’s the first time a major Disney production has touched down at the festival since Inside Out in 2015. Indiana Jones,...

The opening sequence to Raiders of the Lost Ark stands as one of the greatest action sequences in history and serves as the perfect introduction to the world of Indiana Jones. Based on the James Bond tradition of opening each movie with a vignette, the sequence outdoes even the best of 007, thanks to director Steven Spielberg's exquisite construction and a surprising focus on character. It has yet to be matched in any of the subsequent Indiana Jones films, and the upcoming Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny will need to pull quite a rabbit out of its hat to top it.
The scene does far more than just get the adrenaline flowing. It has to convey everything about its central hero in the space of several minutes, setting the stage for the rest of the movie and the franchise that followed it. Spielberg pulled deeply into his...

Yes, there’s a reference made to Britney Spears in Sam Levinson’s new HBO series, The Idol, and Lily-Rose Depp does play a Britney-like character who’s looking to rise from her funk, but as the Euphoria creator said at the Cannes press conference today, “We’re not trying to tell a story about any particular pop star.”
Levinson added, “It’s a lot of pressure — to have to constantly be on, and to be what everyone wishes you to be. It’s a lonely life… We can all pretend that everyone is looking out for someone’s best interest, but I think fame really corrupts; it’s really easy to surround yourself with myth-makers who continue to prop us up.”

Match #1: Mike Bailey def. Jonathan Gresham The following is courtesy of impactwrestling.com:
It’s a stalemate in the early going as both men match each other’s offense move for move. Gresham puts his submission game on display, tying up Bailey. This only fires him up as Bailey delivers a flurry of kicks, then hits a springboard Moonsault to the outside. Back in the ring, Gresham regains control and hits a running clothesline for two. Bailey comes back with a running Shooting Star for a near fall of his own.

In one of the sweetest and most emotional moments of the Venice Film Festival so far, Brendan Fraser received an outpouring of love in the form of a standing ovation after the world premiere of his latest film The Whale. The film, based on a Samuel D. Hunter play, was directed by Darren Aronofsky and features Fraser as Charlie, a morbidly obese man looking to reconnect with his estranged daughter (Stranger Things’ Sadie Sink) before his death.
Fraser has been enjoying a huge comeback after years of relative obscurity through the 2010s, which was in part due to retaliation he received when he was allegedly sexually assaulted by the former head of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association. Fraser’s performance has been heralded as a revelation in The Whale with critics at the screening generally agreeing that he brings a warmth and tenderness to Charlie that elevates the film.

HollywoodNews.com: When I talked to director Christopher Nolan this week during a panel the night after the Hollywood premiere of his “Inception” that included many of his key crew members I started by suggesting that with the double-barreled success of “Batman Begins” and the box office juggernaut, “The Dark Knight” he probably could have walked into Warner Bros pitching a shot by shot remake of “Gigli” and gotten a green light to make it. Now with the spectacular $60 million dollar opening estimate this weekend of the brainy and challenging summer thriller (the most anticipated flick of the season) and the prospect of another “Batman” on the horizon and a new “Superman” that he is going to produce for the studio it is clear he’s officially Hollywood’s fair-haired boy. Like attending a talent show or sitting through a beauty pageant without having your own kid to root for, Standing Ovation comes off like a pre-teen parade financed by friends, family and James Brolin, and begging to be graded on a curve for the sheer effort of its song-and-dance stylings. The sad truth is that Standing Ovation deserves the opposite treatment of its title -- it's all broad mugging and braces, generic songs and goofy slapstick sequences that leave one wistful for the cable-level adequacy of Disney Channel's High School Musical films.

Moviegoers gave a rousing reception to Warner Bros.' fantasy thriller "Inception" during the weekend, as the Christopher Nolan-helmed Leonardo DiCaprio starrer took in an estimated $60.4 million in opening domestic boxoffice.
That was on the far high side of prerelease projections, validating the studio's gutsy gambit of releasing an adult-targeting tentpole in summer. By contrast, Disney's Jerry Bruckheimer-produced adventure fantasy "The Sorcerer's Apprentice" drew a big Bronx cheer.
"Sorcerer's" conjured just $17.4 million in third place on the weekend, with $24.5 million in cumulative boxoffice since a Wednesday bow. The pricey pic's disappointing debut continues a recent -- and rare -- losing streak for Bruckheimer, following lackluster outings with his May opener "Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time," last July's "G-Force" and February 2009's "Confessions of a Shopaholic."
Elsewhere, Universal's 3D animated feature "Despicable Me" fell a modest 42% from its opening tally to register $32.7 million in second place and a 10-day cume of $118.4 million.

Easily the most anticipated non-sequel release of the summer, Inception breaks in to approximately 6,700 screens at 3,792 theaters this weekend (including a record IMAX release of 197 venues). The Sorcerer's Apprentice casts its spell at 3,504 locations, though its unimpressive grosses on Wednesday and Thursday don't bode well for its weekend prospects, while musical Standing Ovation counter-programs with a barely-nationwide 623-theater launch. Exactly two years ago, The Dark Knight set the opening weekend record with $158.4 million on its way to becoming one of the highest-grossing movies of all-time. Instead of immediately following that up with another Batman movie, writer-director Christopher Nolan stepped away from the franchise to make Inception. Demonstrating their faith in Mr. Nolan, distributor Warner Bros. allotted the movie a massive budget in excess of $150 million and, similar to previous Warner events Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince and The Dark Knight, scheduled it in a prime mid-July spot. Inception has...

This weekend offers very little variety, but I doubt that’ll hurt the box office. Take your pick between sci-fi or fantasy, because in terms of new releases, you’ve pretty much got Inception or The Sorcerer’s Apprentice.
With the weight of the director, Christopher Nolan, alone, I bet Inception will storm the box office. It’s not for everyone, but Nolan fans as well as fans of its all-star cast won’t be disappointed.
Second place belongs to The Sorcerer’s Apprentice. Nic Cage hasn’t struck box office gold for a while and Lord knows he needs it, but aside from his personal troubles,...

Indie Roundup is your (striving to be) weekly guide to what's new and upcoming in the world of independent film.
Opening This Week: As we (by which I mean me) try to settle back into a good weekly routine, let's start with what's opening in limited release. Against the intelligent thrills of Christopher Nolan's Inception, which is likely to draw a fair portion of indie-oriented audiences, we see only a few contenders. Our friends at indieWIRE list the drama Kisses on their release calendar. Described as an Irish "romantic coming-of-age film," Kisses was originally slated for release late last year through Oscilloscope. Written and directed by Lance Daly, the film is centered around two kids who run away from home and spend Christmas night together on the streets of Dublin. Standing Ovation could barely muster a golf clap from an audience. Unless you're a female senior citizen. The Kelinworth Film Production's debut flick will simply not work for anyone outside of the above mentioned and possibly a five year old. Everyone between the ages of six and sixty-five, wait for this to show on the Disney channel. In the afternoon. On Saturday. When it's raining.
Now I know what some are saying. "Old Joe can't review a movie like this." Contrary to belief, this guy grew up with a slew of younger cousins (price of being Italian) and endured many films in this genre over the years. And going through my review archives, one will see a variety of ratings that will surprise you. So this 108 minute feature is getting a very fair assessment.
