I received my pre-order for this game the day it came out. How excited I was. It was a good move for Square to make another hand-held. But unlike their Chain of Memories game for GBA, this game for Nintendo DS is graphically very similar to their Playstation 2 games. It's amazing. I've been playing for hours, and I don't think I'm even halfway through. Each mission you do in the game is equal to a day in the life of the main character, Roxas. Some of the lines of the script are a little cheesy. There's a lot of lines like,"You ready?" "Let's go!" "Right." that appear right before you embark on your mission. Quite unneeded, if you ask me. But there are some very nice scenes that take place high upon a clock tower. Compared to Chain of Memories, the graphics are 358/2 times better, but I wish it was as mysterious and creepy as Chain of Memories was. Since it's a prequel, we already know what is going to happen. It feels just like Kingdom Hearts 2. More advanced, but lacking in the chilling quality that you used to feel. But I can guarantee that if you liked KH2, you will love this game as well. If you have a Nintendo DS, definitely get it. And if you are new to the Kingdom Hearts series and play this first, you will be bombarded with questions that do get answered along the way. Okay, I've got to go finish collecting hearts on this mission in Agrabah!
I really gotta say that this is probably the best graphics I've ever seen for a Nintendo DS game. Almost as good as what you would see from a Playstation 2 game. This game helped me understand more about Roxas, Axel and the other members of the Organisation since I've never played Chain of Memories (and i'll be honest I was only interested in getting a DS ever since I saw this game). Although this game has quite a slow beginning and things may be boring at first, they begin getting more fun and unexpected things begin to happen! If you just keep on playing it just as I did, you will without a doubt start to enjoy it much later. I cant really say much for the characters only with the fact that I'm not sure if Axel is my favourite one anymore. If you'd like to know why, well you're just gonna have to play it yourself. It's definitely a game worth playing if you are a Kingdom hearts fan.
I bought this game in hopes of having a classic Kingdom Hearts experience on the go, something I've been looking forward to for a while. Instead I got a strange side-story that really had nothing to contribute to the series except what NOT to put in a Kingdom Hearts game. My first problem with this game is that they ruined the whole Experience system. I couldn't even beat Twilight Town because I had no room for the "Level up" block and all of my extra magic and power blocks. I was still level two when I needed to be a much higher level. The original system was much easier and better in every aspect. Why fix something that's not broken? My second problem is that the story was so insignificant to the series that I had no desire to find out the rest of the story. All I knew or even wanted to know about the story plot is that it was when Roxas was in the Organization. There were no secrets explained about the series in this game. All in all, this game was nit worth my playing. I gave up on it a while ago and i have no desire to ever pick it up again. How it got over a 9.0 rating on here is beyond me, but I thought I should just share the problems I have with it.
