On the surface, this TV series is the story of a girl who deals with an unrequited high school crush on a boy from the other side of the academic track. Underneath, it's an uproarious comedy that's smart, slapstick, and deep all at once. The acting won't win any Academy Awards, but the direction and timing of the episodes is impeccable. This type of romantic comedy seems have become lost in mainstream USA TV viewing. It took over 1 year to film this series, and it shows in the quality and depth of the writing and direction. My Latino wife almost bust her sides watching these episodes - this is really great viewing for the entire family, no matter your cultural background.
I keep rewatching this drama and its sequel every year since first watching it 5 years ago. A well-written, well-acted, and well-directed drama based on a Japanese manga series, it's lighthearted and fun, perfect for a day of relaxation and laughter. Ariel Lin manages to make a not-so-smart character seem endearing and not annoying. There are so many epic lines (not sure if they translate well though- haven't watched it with English subs yet) I can never get enough of. Yes, it's a bit predictable and the humor might not be for everyone, but it's still a classic and my favorite drama of all time!
This drama is about a girl who falls in love with the smartest guy in her school although she is in the lowest class in her school. Anyways, let us get right into the review. Let me start off by saying the hype has not been lived up to. Honestly, this has to be the most annoying drama I have ever watched in my life. Not only is the protagonist idiotic and naive, she is also more annoying, clumsy, and bothersome than most other drama leads. It's like the director decided to make the protagonist 1000x more annoying than most protagonists in hopes that it'll make for the best drama ever. Continuing on, it kills me that it is not only the main character that is annoying; Pretty much everyone (that has a significant part in the protagonist's life) BUT the main male lead is annoying. I find myself about to pull my hair out every episode so far, and I'm only on the ninth episode! I cannot bear to watch anymore of this monstrosity of a drama. This drama is so predictable, you could guess everything that is going to happen within the episode before the five minute mark. What's even worse is the fact that there is pretty much zero love progress from episode one to seven. Yet, he somehow magically starts to grow feelings for her. If this were realistic, the only feelings he should have towards her is hate. I'm not going to spoil anything, just know that her actions are too unnecessary and way too dramatic. If you would like to watch it, go ahead. However, just know that it is rather disappointing for what it is made out to be.
Zhi Shu has become his true self since he met Xiang Qin. When facing Xiang Qin, he can talk, get angry, and pay attention to her intentionally or unintentionally. Zhi Shu will often snicker when he is with Xiang Qin. She is a kind and simple person. People who are with her must be very happy. There are very few such people nowadays... Naoki is not good at expressing his love for Xiangqin with words, but he uses actions Everyone can see that Naoki is special to Xiangqin.
