Though often seen merely as the streaming platform where all the classic NBC shows can be found, like Friends and The Office, the best movies on Peacock this month showcase the vast library of cinematic offerings. Peacock also hosts a lot of Universal’s biggest titles, meaning that fans can find some of the biggest blockbusters of the year, like Twisters on the platform, as well as some true classics from the legendary studio.
Peacock is also kicking off the new year with a lot of exciting titles, including some that will likely become big players during the 2025 awards season, such as the gripping thriller Conclave. Fans will be able to find films from directors like Christopher Nolan and Steven Spielberg as well as movies in huge franchises, like Harry Potter and Fast and Furious. Even with the exciting television catalog, the best movies on Peacock in January 2025 are certainly worth a look.

As reported in February, “Schitt’s Creek” star Emily Hampshire is developing a fresh version of “Mary Hartman,” along with Jacob Tierney (“Letterkenny”). After being shopped by Sony Pictures TV to buyers this spring, the project has landed at TBS. The news comes as Lear, who was born in 1922, celebrates his 99th birthday.

Another classic Norman Lear TV series is getting a remake. Sony TV is in development on a new version of Lear’s “Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman” that would star “Schitt’s Creek” alum Emily Hampshire.

“Schitt’s Creek” star Emily Hampshire has signed on to star as the title character in a new, updated version of Norman Lear’s 1970s syndicated hit “Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman.”
Hampshire will also be an executive producer on the project, and co-write the script with Jacob Tierney (“Letterkenny”), who will serve as showrunner. Sony Pictures TV is planning to shop the show to buyers in the coming weeks.
It’s the latest series remake to come out of the Lear cannon, following the recent critically acclaimed reimagining of “One Day at a Time,” and an animated take on “Good Times” that is currently in the works. Lear and Brent Miller’s Act III Prods. is developing the new “Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman” with Sony, with Lear and Miller as executive producers alongside Hampshire and Tierney.
“Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman” reunites Hampshire with Tierney, as Hampshire previously starred in Tierney’s film “The Trotsky.

The Whistler Film Festival and the Vancouver-based Praxis Centre for Screenwriters have announced the six Canadian screenwriters selected to participate in the Wff Praxis Screenwriters Lab, a joint feature script development program to be held from December 1 to 5 during the Whistler Film Festival + Summit. In addition, the parties have confirmed that the management of the program will move to Whistler.
Focused on advancing feature-length projects at the script stage into production by facilitating feedback and mentorship from industry experts across the business spectrum, the Wff Praxis Screenwriters Lab is designed to analyze the writer's intentions, rethink script-to-screen strategies, and chart a course for eventual production. Participants will engage in business tailored group discussions, one-on-one industry meetings, a boot camp pitch session, and a master class, as well as receive the opportunity to attend festival screenings and industry events. Advisors will include highly accomplished producers and other industry executives with extensive market knowledge.
The six screenwriters and projects selected for Wff Praxis Screenwriter Lab 2015 include:
Andrew McEvoy (BC) with suspenseful family drama "The Sounding Line"
Jesse Heffring (QC) with thought-provoking sci-fi thriller "Everything is Supernova"
Joadie Jurgova (Ns) with psychological drama "Trespassers Will Be Executed"
Katherine Wagner (BC) with character-driven sports thriller "Omertà"
Sara Beth Edwards (BC) with action/thriller "The Waitress"
Steven Owad (Ab) with small town drama of race and violence "Love in the Age of Terror"
After 28 years as an exclusive program of the School of Contemporary Arts at Sfu, the Praxis Centre for Screenwriters is moving into an expanded partnership with the Whistler Film Festival. Praxis founder and longtime Director, Sfu Professor Patricia Gruben, will continue as Director of the Wff Praxis Screenwriters Lab, but management of the workshop will move to Whistler. The parties are taking a break from the annual competition in order to shift the program to a June to December schedule in 2016. This year, instead of a new intake of scripts, six projects from previous workshops will be invited to return for a four-day business immersion experience during the Whistler Film Festival + Summit.
Since 1986, Praxis’ Fall and Spring workshop series for feature film scripts have brought together independent screenwriters from across the country to work with intensively with key film industry personnel in private and group sessions to develop both creative skills and marketing opportunities for their projects. More than 200 feature film and Mow screenplays by Canadian writers have been selected for an intensive workshop process with an exclusive list of international industry professionals, making Praxis a leader in the development of Canadian screenwriters. Praxis Fellows have come from all ten provinces and the Yukon, and advisors have covered a range from Hollywood producers, writers, and directors such as Christine Vachon and Michael Miner to independent Canadian screenwriters such as Atom Egoyan and Don McKellar. Over thirty-five Praxis scripts have been produced to date, including Mina Shum's "Double Happiness," Thom Fitzgerald's "The Hanging Garden," and Jacob Tierney's "The Trotsky," which opened the Whistler Film Festival in 2009.
“The Wff Praxis Screenwriters Lab aligns Praxis’ leadership in the development of Canadian screenwriters and flagship feature screenplay competition with our robust slate of project development programs, Festival and industry Summit,” says Shauna Hardy Mishaw, Executive Director of the Whistler Film Festival Society. “Our ultimate goal is to have completed projects get developed and premiere in Whistler.”
"With this new program, which is focused on business development for screenplays that we've already worked with creatively, we'll connect with the great opportunities the Festival provides – connecting with directors, producers, marketing executives as well as Variety 10 Screenwriters to Watch," says Praxis Director Patricia Gruben. "Plus, we'll be able to see the latest Praxis-workshopped film, "Numb," which is having its North American premiere at Wff."
From December 2 to 6, 2015, the Whistler Film Festival + Summit (Wff) will celebrate its 15th anniversary with fresh films, special guests, unique industry initiatives, epic events, and time to play in North America’s premiere mountain resort destination.

There’s a sight gag at a pivotal moment in Preggoland involving a baby shower, a dog, operatic music and Jello that immediately registers as one of the more inspired comedic set-ups in recent memory. It is also one of the very few gags that transcends the film’s sitcom trappings while also finessing the outrageous and the darkly funny, two tones that Jacob Tierney’s film aims for yet routinely misses. A few months from now, when looking back at Preggoland – not to be confused with Prego, another film coming out in limited release this week – it will be the first (and likely only) scene that comes to mind.
The Canadian comedy, shot against the cloudy backdrop of suburban Vancouver, tells the story of Ruth Huxley, played by Sonja Bennett (also the film’s screenwriter). Ruth has a low-paying job as a grocery store clerk but no boyfriend, something...

Whether you're getting married or in a couple with a pregnant spouse, everyone wants to know "the story." For the latter, it's "was it planned?" These are the kinds of questions Ruth faces in "Preggoland," except for one little problem: she's not pregnant. Starring Sonja Bennett, James Caan and Danny Trejo, the latest from director Jacob Tierney ("The Trotsky," "Good Neighbors") follows Ruth, who is exiled from her group of friends following a drunken display at a baby shower. But when word starts going around that she's pregnant, she finds herself welcomed back into the fold and she soon finds she can't give up the lie. In this exclusive clip, you can see how the news begins to spiral out of her control. "Preggoland" arrives in limited release...

There’s just one catch, of course, she’s not having a baby, and her small outburst has spread like wildfire within her small town and circle of friends. Now, not willing to admit that she’s not knocked up, Ruth must continue her charade with hilarious results. Even Machete himself, Danny Trejo gets wrapped up in her story.

For the first time ever, Toronto International Film Festival along with Telefilm Canada had a pre-Toronto reception for the trade. Held at Soho House on a flawless L.A. day, with views of West Hollywood and Beverly Hills all the way to the Pacific Ocean, the trade had the happy hours to greet and catch up with each other and to preview trailers of the films Canada will be showing at the festival. And best of all, Tiff gave everyone a 2 lb. 4 oz. catalog (even more than one to gift to other colleagues) to take home instead of having to pack them into our suitcases to take back from Toronto.
Maybe it’s the drought here in L.A. that gives me the yearning for rain, but the films on my must-see list include a couple about rain: the Tiff Doc, “Monsoon” by Surla Gunnarsson and “October Gale” by Ruba Nadda (“Cairo Time”) starring Patricia Clarkson and Scott Speedman, a Special Presentation being sold by Myriad.
Canada has the most coproduction treaties of any other nation, and Seoul Korea is the chosen city in this year’s City to City program. The coproduction between Canada and So. Korea, “In Her Place” by writer-director Albert Shin, showing in the Discovery Section looks very compelling. Elle Driver is selling this drama about a wealthy couple secretly seeking to adopt the unborn child of an impoverished and troubled rural teenager.
Other trailers we watched included Contemporary World Cinema entries, “Felix and Meira” by Maxime Giroux, being sold by Udi – Urban Distribution International, “Love in the Time of Civil War” by Rodrigue Jean (Isa: Les Films du 3 Mars) and “Heartbeat” by Andrea Dorfman.
In Midnight Madness, “The Editor” looks pretty good. Park Entertainment is selling it. Xavier Dolan, Bruce Greenwood and Catherine Keener star in “Elephant Song” by Charles Biname which is a Special Presentation. Another Special Presentation is “Preggoland” by Jacob Tierney (“The Trotsky”).
Trailers from Discovery included “Guidance”, the debut film by Pat Mills, “Big Muddy”, “The Valley Below” by Kyle Thomas, “Wet Bum” by Lindsay Mackay, (Isa: Traction Media), “Backcountry” by Adam MacDonald, (Isa: Event Film Distribution, Us: contact Cinetic), “Bang Bang Baby” a surreal, fever-dream fusion of small-town musical and 1950s sci-fi debut feature which writer-director Jeffrey St. Jules developed from his own short at the Cannes Film Festival Residence Program.
Peter Goldwyn of The Samuel Goldwyn Company and Matt Dentler of iTunes, talked up the unprecedented (for a foreign language film) success reaching the top 20 films on iTunes of “ The German Doctor” directed by Lucia Puenzo.
Paul Federbush and I spoke of new horizons of the international labs of Sundance Institute. Sundance Industry’s Rosy Wong introduced me to Lisa Ogdie, Sundance Ff’s Shorts Programmer. Strand’s Marcus Hu, who has two films in the festival (Films Distribution’s “Girlhood” and Pyramide’s “Xenia”) was there, Frank Wuliger looking at the Gersh trailer of “October Gale”, Rebecca (Bec) Smith of UTA as were so many others.
New acquisitions gigs were discussed: Bobby Rock looking for international sales agent,Cinema Management Group ( Dene Anderberg, Cmg’s VP of Sales and Operations, was also there schmoozing) and for Random Media, the new U.S. distribution company founded by Eric Doctorow (formerly head of Paramount Home Video) in November 2013, which will release films through Cinedigm.
Telefilm and Tiff have held a similar soiree for four years in NewYork. I’m sure Andrew Karpen, former Co-ceo of Focus Features, who is launching the new distribution company Bleecker Street was there in N.Y.
Rachel Shapiro, also happily working on many projects at once and her friend, producer Melanie Backer, Laurie Woodrow of RightsTrade a global online marketplace for film, television and digital rights licensing whose “Market On Demand” streamlines film, television, and digital rights sales and acquisitions for content owners, sales agents and distributors who can reach thousands of industry buyers, and buyers can search, screen, and license rights from sellers of thousands of titles.
Bonnie Voland with her hands full for Im Global and its many lines, reminisced with Carolle Brabant, Executive Director of Telefilm Canada and Brigitte Hubmann of Telefilm about the five (!) regimes of the Toronto International Film Festival she has known…from before Helga Stephenson all the way to Cameron Bailey who was there talking up the upcoming festival and hearing peoples’ raves or rants.
Also reminiscing with Brigitte about their days at Goethe Institut was Margit Kleinman who is now director of Villa Aurora, the artist-in-residence program for artists in Germany housed in the Pacific Palisades former home of German émigré, the novelist Lion Furchtwanger. I didn’t have time to ask if they would host the German Academy Award party this year for their submission for Best Foreign Language film, Dominik Graf’s “Beloved Sister”. Since its premiere at the Berlinale this year, international sales agent Global Screen has sold the rights to Music Box for U.S. who will release it in December, and to Australia, New Zealand, Brazil, Poland and Croatia thus far.
Our dear friend, Ian Birnie, programmer for Mumbai Film Festival and the Louisiana International Film Festival was there with so many others. It was a wonderful moment to catch up and to forget the pressure we are all under preparing our screenings and meetings for Tiff.
Even though he wasn’t there, I want to mention a brief interchange I had with producer rep Cassian Elwes of Elevated Film Sales, who is repping “Black and White” with Kevin Costner and co-repping the Paul Bettany movie with Jennifer Connelly, “Shelter”, with UTA at Tiff. “In Venice I have Bogdanovich’s ‘She's Funny that Way’ which is in a three way split between me, CAA and UTA and Joe Dante's movie ‘Burying the Ex’ which I'm doing with CAA.”
Steven Raphael and Mj Pekos were fronting for the reception and also are repping “Voiceover” and “Dark Horse” at Tiff.
There was no need to show trailers to the buzz films like the Gala film “Foxcatcher”, which has Oscar expectations are already swirling around it and which premiered in Cannes and is being sold by Kimberly Fox’s Panorama Media and Annapurna (already sold to Sony Pictures Classics for U.S. as well as to Canada-Métropole Films Distribution and Mongrel Media Inc., France-Mars Films, Germany-Koch Media Gmbh, Japan-Longride Inc. So. Korea-Green Narae Media, Switzerland-Ascot Elite Entertainment Group, Taiwan-Long Shong International, United Kingdom- Entertainment One Uk. The film has already earned Bennett Miller the Best Director prize at Cannes.
Another not previewing was Benedict Cumberbatch starring in the much talked about Alan Turing biopic “ The Imitation Game”, and his portrayal of the legendary British code breaker and mathematician is generating talk of a Best Actor nod at this year's Academy Awards. FilmNation is repping this and has already sold it to The Weinstein Company for U.S., Belgium to Paradiso Filmed Entertainment, Greece to Seven Films, Hong Kong (China) to Edko Films Ltd, Israel to Lev Films (Shani Films), Italy toVidea - Cde S.P.A., Japan toGaga Corporation, So. Korea to Medialog Corp., Sweden to Svensk Filmindustri, Ab, Switzerland to Ascot Elite Entertainment Group, Taiwan to Applause Entertainment Ltd. Taiwan Branch, Thailand to M Pictures Co., Ltd.
Two other hot films are Lone Scherfig's “The Riot Club” repped by Hanway and already sold to Universal Pictures for No. America, Belgium-Lumière, France-Selective Films, Germany-Prokino Filmverleih Gmbh, Hong Kong (China)-Golden Scene Company Limited, Italy-Notorious Pictures, Benelux-Lumiere, Poland-Kino Swiat, Switzerland-Pathe Films Ag, United Arab Emirates-Front Row Filmed Entertainment and the U.K. Kingdom-Universal Pictures International and Noah Baumbach's “ While We're Young”, produced by Scott Rudin and repped by FilmNation (again!), with no sales on record yet.

Sneak Peek "Mad Men" actress Jessica Paré, covering the Spring 2014 issue of "Fashion" magazine, photographed by Gabor Jurina and Zeina Esmail:
"I’m a huge Marlene Dietrich fan," said Paré. "She’s got this raunchy kind of strength. It would be hard to find a man who could come up with something hard for her to handle. She’s seen it all and done it all. I read her biography as a kid and it stayed with me since..."

Taylor Kitsch’s film career did not get off to the best of starts in 2012, when John Carter, Battleship and Savages all disappointed at the North American box office. However, the actor, who shot to fame with his role as Tim Riggins on Friday Night Lights, chose wisely to try his hand at some smaller projects with more refined stories. He has two films set for May, the HBO drama The Normal Heart with Julia Roberts and Mark Ruffalo, and the film festival favourite The Grand Seduction, a Canadian comedy from director Don McKellar (Last Night).
The Grand Seduction feels like a modest, charming crowd-pleaser that will hopefully not get trampled over by blockbuster behemoths when it comes out on May 30th. In the remake of a 2003 French-Canadian film, Kitsch plays Dr. Paul Lewis, employed by the small Newfoundland town of Tickle Bay. Since the tiny, beleaguered population wants to...

A movie heist is pretty much the same as a real-life one: you're only as good as your crew. And writer/director Jonathan Sobol managed to put together an expert one for the follow-up to his acclaimed debut "A Beginner's Guide to Endings."
For "The Art of the Steal," a border-hopping crime comedy full of double-crosses and high stakes heists, Sobol convinced big names like Kurt Russell, Terence Stamp, Matt Dillon and Jay Baruchel to come along for the ride. And for his part, Baruchel said the decision to join up was an easy one. He liked the script and cast, and he and the Canadian writer/director shared a mutual affinity for making movies at home, as well as knowing when to pepper the tightly-scripted heist plot with bits of improvised humour.

We haven't given a lot of coverage to Cosmopolis aside from Andrew's highly positive review, but knowing how many Cronenberg fans there are around here, we wanted to pass on the news that the film's Blu-ray/DVD release date from Entertainment One is January 1, 2013.
From the Press Release:
From director David Cronenberg (A History of Violence, Dead Ringers, Eastern Promises) and based on the prophetic novel by Don DeLillo, comes Cosmopolis, a contemporary thriller that turns into a wild, hypnotic odyssey through our new millennium's obsessions with power, money, control, information, technology, violence, sex, mortality, revolution, destruction, and, ultimately, redemption. Available on New Year's Day, 2013, Entertainment One presents this acclaimed 2012 U.S. theatrical release on Blu-ray and DVD, packed with extras including a "Citizens of Cosmopolis" featurette, audio commentary with director Cronenberg and interviews with the cast and crew.

Cosmopolis picture: Juliette Binoche rides in Robert Pattinson‘s white limo Cosmopolis reviews: Starring Robert Pattinson, David Cronenberg‘s Cosmopolis is missing a scene found in Don DeLillo’s 2003 novel: a 300-person orgy at a Manhattan intersection. But don’t despair. Cronenberg’s movie, which opens tomorrow in Canada and August 17 in the Us, apparently has more than enough to intrigue, discuss, and think about. Reviews have been generally positive-leaning. Even so, Canadian critics aren’t of the same mind when discussing Cosmopolis: too cold and overly intellectualized, or gripping and thought-provoking? Referring to Cosmopolis as a "blockbuster of the mind," Toronto Star critic Peter Howell says "We might quibble with the emphasis Cronenberg places on dialogue, on the staginess of his sets and on the relative lack of action. … What we can’t argue is that Cosmopolis is the work of a master filmmaker, one who is determined...

Robert Pattinson shirtless (naked?) and ready to strike: Cosmopolis Cosmopolis release date Us: Starring Robert Pattinson, David Cronenberg‘s Cosmopolis will be released by eOne Films in the United States on August 17. Talk about counter-programming. Also opening on August 17 are Sylvester Stallone / Liam Hemsworth’s all-brawn-no-brain actioner The Expendables 2 and the musical Sparkle, Whitney Houston’s last movie appearance. Other August releases in the Us include the Total Recall remake starring Colin Farrell; The Bourne Legacy with Jeremy Renner and Rachel Weisz; the latest Meryl Streep movie, Hope Springs; and the horror thriller The Apparition, featuring Twilight‘s Ashley Greene. As pointed out in a previous article about the Cosmopolis Us release date, August is a curious choice as Cronenberg’s unusual film is a "prestige" — i.e., awards-season — effort. Those movies generally open in the fall, closer to the time critics hand out their awards so the films...

Cosmopolis premiere: Robert Pattinson with Emily Hampshire, Sarah Gadon The Cosmopolis premiere is currently being held in Toronto right now. A clarification: that’s the Canadian premiere of Cosmopolis, as the film has already had premieres in places like France and Portugal. Starring Robert Pattinson, David Cronenberg’s Cosmopolis was in competition for the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival. It rode away (it’s a white limo movie) empty-handed despite some ardent supporters among the media and critics. [See Cosmopolis Reviews; Robert Pattinson's 'Unsuspected Bravery'; Robert Pattinson 'Impeccable/Loses Control.'] August 2012 is the rumored Cosmopolis Us release date. Canadian distributor eOne Films, a branch of eOne Entertainment, will handle the Cosmopolis release in North America. Besides Robert Pattinson as a haircut-obsessed, asymmetrically prostated (that doesn’t sound quite right, does it?) billionaire Eric Packer, Cosmopolis features A Dangerous Method’s Sarah Gadon, Summer Hours’ Juliette Binoche, Rock of Ages’ Paul Giamatti (who has received a number of good notices), In America’s Samantha Morton,...

Cosmopolis movie: Robert Pattinson, Sarah Gadon Mathieu Carratier has written a highly positive Cosmopolis film review for Premiere magazine, praising the movie itself, director-writer David Cronenberg, and star Robert Pattinson. Cosmopolis is in competition for the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival. It’ll be screened on May 25. Carratier begins his Cosmopolis commentary by remarking that whether or not he appreciates David Cronenberg’s recent work — one assumes he means more accessible fare such as the Viggo Mortensen trilogy: A History of Violence, Eastern Promises, and A Dangerous Method — he was "seriously missing" the Cronenberg of (no-holds-barred) movies such as Crash and Videodrome. But not to worry. "Pop open the champagne," exults Carratier, "because he’s back in every Cosmopolis shot." Cronenberg himself wrote the Cosmopolis screenplay — reportedly in six days, and his first for a feature film since eXistenZ (1999). The plot is based on Don DeLillo’s...

Cosmopolis: Robert Pattinson directed by David Cronenberg An early Cosmopolis review has come out via Studio Ciné Live‘s Fabrice Leclerc. Directed by the iconoclastic David Cronenberg, who adapted Don DeLillo’s novel, and starring Robert Pattinson, Cosmopolis is definitely one of the most eagerly anticipated films at the Cannes Film Festival 2012. [Check out the awesome Cosmopolis trailer.] The headline of Leclerc’s brief, three-star (out of five) Cosmopolis review reads: "A Cronenberg as brilliant as he is taut." Leclerc then begins his review by explaining that Cronenberg and DeLillo are "manufacturers of fantastic, unhealthy, and at times somber environments, of the science of language, and of totally chaotic characters. And of controversy as well." Referring to Cosmopolis as a "ghostly and hypnotic" tale, Leclerc adds that Cronenberg had adapted to the letter DeLillo’s "ultrarich prose, filming with incredible inventiveness this stifling and disturbing airtight environment." As for Robert Pattinson, Leclerc says he’s "impeccable" until Cosmopolis‘ last segment,...

Robert Pattinson haircut, Cosmopolis The Robert Pattinson movie Cosmopolis may have an August release date in the United States, according to online rumors. That would be a curious choice for Canadian-based distributor Entertainment One (eOne), as David Cronenberg films have "fall release" written all over them. That’s certainly how Us distributors have perceived Cronenberg’s last three films, all of which were awards-season contenders: starring Michael Fassbender, Keira Knightley, and Viggo Mortensen, A Dangerous Method opened in the Us in November 2011. (In mid-January 2012 in Canada.) Starring Best Actor Oscar nominee Mortensen and Naomi Watts, Eastern Promises opened in mid-September 2007. And Mortensen / Maria Bello’s A History of Violence came out on Sept. 30, 2005. Cosmopolis, which is in competition for the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival, will open on May 23 in France, June 8 in Canada, and June 15 in the UK. Additionally, Cosmopolis already has a DVD/Blu-ray release...

Sometimes it pains me to say when a film is an unwatchable mess. Films like French Immersion, the directorial debut of Quebec-based producer Kevin Tierney (Bon Cop, Bad Cop, The Trotsky, Good Neighbours), has an incredible amount of talent in front of the camera and behind it. It is supposed to be a comedy about the differences between English and French speaking Canada, but instead it’s a soul-sucking train wreck full of punchlines so misguided they would make Jeff Foxworthy and Larry the Cable Guy think twice. Sickeningly unfunny and dreadfully “Canadian,” Tierney’s film strikes out on almost every conceivable level.
There’s enough plot and quirky characters in French Immersion to sustain a year’s worth of television pilots, but Tierney tries to pack every half baked idea he has into a single film. The film deals with five English speakers forced to enter into an intense...

Following on the heels of big cousin Tiff, the Atlantic Film Festival may be smaller in scope but not in variety. Each year the film festival taking place in late September in Halifax, manages to strike a delicate balance between international arthouse and smaller, Canadian and even local films. Some of my favourites from last year’s festival included Mike Leigh’s quiet drama Another Year, Michael Goldbach’s appropriately dreamy Daydream Nation, Jacob Tierney’s follow up to his hit The Trotsky, Good Neighbours and legendary filmmaker D.A. Pennebaker’s thrilling doc Kings of Pastry. While all engaging and dynamic films, they vary in subject matter, genre and scope. Some boast big names, others introduce us to previously unknown names but they were all found playing side-by-side at last year’s festival. After coming away from last year’s festival feeling positive about what it had to offer, I...

I've been sharing my love for Jacob Tierney's Good Neighbours (review) since I saw the film at the Whistler Film Festival late last year.
The film is opening in limited release in the Us tomorrow (list of theatres here) and earlier this week I had the opportunity to speak with Jacob about the film, mixing comedy into unlikely genres, distribution and his upcoming project.
Thanks for taking the time to speak with me today about Good Neighbours which, by the way, is a fabulous little film.
Thanks.

Title: Good Neighbors Directed By: Jacob Tierney Starring: Emily Hampshire, Jay Baruchel, Scott Speedman, Gary Farmer, Kaniehtiio Horn, Anne-Marie Cadieux The Trotsky boasted an incredibly solid and colorful lead character amidst a piece that was extraordinarily well paced. Take the writer-director and star of that film and reunite them for a crime thriller and we’re bound to get something lively and compelling, right? Absolutely not. Perhaps The Trotsky drained Jacob Tierney and Jay Baruchel of all their pep and passion because their next collaboration, Good Neighbors, is quite the opposite, dull and lifeless. Louise (Emily Hampshire) lives alone with her two cats in an apartment complex. While she isn’t exactly...

The following is a reprint of our review from the film's Canadian release in June What happens when you're faced with the knowledge that you're neighbor is a serial killer? That's the question asked in "Good Neighbours" (it's a Canadian film, hence the spelling), the second collaboration between director Jacob Tierney and actor Jay Baruchel (they teamed on last year's tepid "The Trotsky"), a whodunit without a mystery and a thriller missing the thrills. In the press notes to the film, the premise is describe as "not so much a 'whodunit' as a 'whosgunnagetit.'" It's a nifty approach which makes…...
