I paid 3.99 for the rental on Amazon. Was not worth the price but I was desperate to watch something and this looked decent. Not horrible, not great --sorta has a lifetime movie whiff about it and other parts seem ordinary. Follows a man running from everything in his life and finally decides to make a stand. (Against an Asteroid) (YEAH!! I rolled my eyes too). Had enough interesting characters to keep me interested throughout but not 3.99 worth. Lejon Woods carries the film. 5.1-5.7 out of 10.

I had expected a bit more laughs from the 2021 comedy drama "Asteroid" after having read the movie's synopsis and giving the movie a view.
Now, I will say that writers Dylan Avery and Korey Rowe actually managed to put together a storyline that definitely had some interesting aspects to it. But the movie was just lacking in the comedy department. And the movie's cover/poster was overselling the movie quite a bit with all the flaming meteorites.
The storyline was enjoyable for what it was, though it wasn't a particularly outstanding or memorable storyline. It is one of those movies that you will watch once and most likely never return to watch a second time around.
The movie starred Cuyle Carvin and LeJon Woods, both of which were unfamiliar to me. But I will say that they carried the movie quite well. So they were certainly well-cast for their roles.
"Asteroid" was watchable, but it is hardly a movie that I would recommend you rush out to get your hands on.
My rating of director Dylan Avery's 2021 movie "Asteroid" lands on a somewhat mediocre five out of ten stars.

I didn't have high expectations of this, and equally I hadn't read that it's also a comedy. So I was nicely surprised when I was drawn into the story, the characters, and was served up some funny scenes. In fact, I had to check on its writeup when I found myself laughing at odd bits. It's not a masterpiece, the acting and writing aren't Emmy material, but for a Friday night movie after the pub closes it's fine. I watched it as a freeby on Amazon. I'm not sure I'd want to have paid for it, but you can do a whole lot worse. Give it a go. Couple of cans, couple of mates, and some undemanding entertainment.

The storyline looked promising and that's why I decided to watch it, but the acting is terrible and I don't think the script could even be saved with great acting. The best part of the film was the synopsis on Prime. Basically unwatchable...you'll hate yourself if you do.

I made this account with the sole purpose of hopefully saving your eyes from arguably the worst thing ever filmed in the history of film..I wish I was exaggerating.
That being said, part of me however feels genuinely invigorated in life because if a movie like this can get funded and distributed, TRULY anything is possible in this world..For that reason, and that reason only, ill give it 2/10.

I decided to give this a go because of a review stating that it lost its way a bit. It never had a direction in the first place.
All of the acting is cardboard-like that I remember from educational school videos I used to watch as a kid in the late 70s or those really boring and poorly shot training videos you'd get to watch when starting a new job. The camera is static and seems to be shot from the same angles for each shot and the characters are framed far too centrally to give it any sort of natural feel.
When I first checked this out on IMDb yesterday it was rated 6.4 so I thought why not. Now, this morning, it's rated 5.4. Such a massive drop I can only assume friends of the production team rated it first.
I did give it a good go, but I just had to skip through it and see if there were any scenes or effects to help redeem it and absolutely nothing found.
I have a feeling that the ratings on this are going to plummet further.

I'm sorry makers of asteroid if I wanted to watch family/people drama/comedy I'd chosen this film but I wanted to see an actual asteroid smashing into earth and destroying most of mankind and life ( just kidding of course) but seriously the film was mostly talk and people interaction . I'm a diehard sci-fi fan and there was no sci-fi in this movie advertised as sci-fi film. So it's a no for me but maybe not for you!

Surprisingly fun movie considering the budget. Most of the acting was about as you'd expect for a movie if this type. The lead actors turned in good performances. A few of the smaller parts were decent enough although to be fair, a lot of what might feel like stilted dialog can often be attributed to editing so...
Anyway, the story is fairly interesting and engaging once you realize which direction the ride is going. The ending was mostly satisfying but could have been so much more in my opinion. Again, budget constraints are probably to blame, not lack of imagination as seems fairly evident. I will absolutely recommend this movie to friends.

A man returns to his hometown in upstate New York (Cuyle Carvin) with his wife (Mattie Jo Cowsert) and teenage daughter (Miley Rose), but they're distressed to learn that their location is on a collision course with an oncoming asteroid. The question is why?
Despite its title, "Asteroid" (2021) is not a sci-fi flick in any conventional sense, such as something that appears on SyFy. It's a quirky dramedy with droll humor about how a looming catastrophe negatively affects people with the potential to destroy them or unite them.
The lush locations (and caverns) of Oneonta, New York, are a plus, which is located about 30 miles southwest of Cooperstown (pronounced oh-nee-AAN-tuh).
As far as the cast goes, Cuyle Carvin makes for a quality masculine protagonist and his friendship with Kenny (LeJon Woods) is enjoyable. Meanwhile Richard Waddingham is reminiscent of James Cromwell's Zefram Cochrane in "Star Trek: First Contact" (1996). On the feminine front, lovely Mattie Jo Cowsert as Lynn is a revelation and worth the price of admission. Sure, the teenage daughter is mopey and spoiled, but there's hope.
It runs 1 hour, 27 minutes.

5 seconds in, and the teenage daughter acting put me off. 10 seconds in, and the mother opened her mouth. 3 seconds after, the father.
Then I saw the horrible lines coming from them. And with some of the worst acting I've seen in a very, very long time. I mean, no amount of acting could save that script. But I'm also not sure if any amount of screenplay could save that acting.
Couldn't get past the first 10 minutes without skipping forward to see if the absolute atrocious acting and screenplay got better.
Spoiler alert: It didn't. Save yourself the 5 minutes of debating on if you're going to watch this movie. It's awful.

The acting was actually believable of a small town. I cared about the characters, the small, in town arguments, news that travels fast, and all the other small town Americana you'd expect. For actors I've never even hears about, they all were great!
I think the story moved along well. With no special effects, the story and actors made the antagonist (asteroid) move along well without the dumbed down Hollywood version. It was smartly written and worked around not having special effects. This felt like how a small town would react to a global event, minus the US disowning a city.
I stumbled onto this and really enjoyed a fresh, new take, smartly written, and no exec forcing their idiot will down on the creative folks. While not perfect, it's definitely better than most movies, and this was on Prime, so part of my subscription. If you're in a couch hole, this is a damn fine watch!

Starting this movie up I was expecting another cheap Asylum disaster flick. Thankfully it wasn't, it had better production values, better acting and a rather solid plot. The humor was just right, and all the actors provided a nice ensemble. Hope to see a sequel to see what happens next.

Dear GOD...when the daughter opened her trap for the FIRST TIME,I knew this was gonna be not just a disaster movie...but a DISASTER OF A MOVIE! This movie could have had potential, but the acting is SO BAD,that I couldn't get into it no matter how bad I tried. The dad's acting is the best part of the movie, but even that couldn't save it. There are FAR BETTER disaster or apocalypse movies out there...trust me. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND giving this one a great big PASS!!!!

Pick one.. storyline, writing, directing, acting, scene, photography, effects, wardrobe.... The perfect storm of the worst of all components together in one bomb of a production. Hope these 'actors' kept their day jobs. If one of my students submitted this I'd have them expelled.
I know about A movie, B movie. Maybe even C movie... Unfortunately there are only 26 letters in our alphabet!
There is nothing to describe the total crap this movie is. When I think people are starving and some are getting paid for such a poor performance on a lousy plot!
Very bad acting and dialogs.
If you intend on paying anything to watch this movie, please think twice and run away. Save your money for something else. It is not worth the paper the ticket is printed on.

The whole movie made no sense. The plot line was pointless and empty, we had no idea what the premise of the movie was throughout the entire move. The acting was HORRENDOUS, it was forced, bland, and monotone. The ending was like "wtf? That's it?"

Storyline, writing, directing, acting, scene, photography, effects, wardrobe.... The perfect mix of all components together in one surprising gem of a production.
Yes, I took the main sentence of one of the 1-star reviews here and modified it to what pretty much sums up the impression I had from this movie.
It is, in my opinion, a rare case, where an unexpected watch led me to a wonderful experience.
Whoever may have expected some Bruce Willis movie clearly didn't read the synopsis. It's a light-hearted, well-played, well-written little comedy about a little family that settles in a small town, only to learn that this town will be the impact center of an approaching asteroid.
And though there isn't real drama or any action, the movie kept me sitting through to the end.
I wanted to give it 7 stars, but for upping it a little, i gave 8.
And I ask my self, why good movies off the mainstream get low ratings.

Just don't watch it. So cheaply made. Poorly directed -the director has two camera angles in his repertoire. Acting bad....the scene at 'The Phone Shop' one of the worst scenes I've ever seen. I turned it off after this scene as I didn't fancy seeing someone chuck a golf ball at the house trying to make it look like an asteroid hitting.
The best part of this movie is you can tell in the writing that they know they're not making a blockbuster film and they're having fun making it. There's a lot to like in this movie from the proper perspective. Especially seeing that it was done by a very small production company in NY and it made it all the way to my Amazon in AZ I think is pretty impressive. I've seen some films like "10.0 Earthquake" which is made by MarVista - much larger company. They cut corners. Even "larger" films like "2:22" (effects great! Story garbage) and "Breach" (the space one, just nonsense) just feel like money-grabs. Like Chris Rock is directing and in a hurry to get back to his trailer. Don't even get me started on the tv show "Scorpion". Physically ill, I was.
The writing is entertaining! The story is a bit silly, but it keeps moving and kept me engaged. They wrote in a lot of character flaws that strengthen as the movie progresses. The "featured comment" on this movie only watch 10 minutes of it, so they missed what the characters became. And that's a shame. The characters are believable and realistic, they jab each other and deliver it like they really know each other - not a small budget movie with actors either sending out monotone lines back and forth, or over-acting like they're expecting an Oscar at the end of the scene.
The effects are excellent for low-budget film making. I like disaster movies (which this is not, FYI) and some of the effects I've seen on other lower-budget-but-most-likely-higher-than-this-budget are seriously like After Effects 5 level stuff you'd expect in the 80s.
The plot is actually kind of smart. It's still silly, but it's not a bunch of dumbed-down sci-fi jargon gobbledygook to fill lines on a script, but plausibility. Probability, nope, but what is written from a scientific point of view you could say, "yeah, maybe" and not "whoever wrote this must not live above ground; none of the things they are saying makes any sense in our current physical plane of existence nor dimension."
There's some touching emotional aspects involved that aren't overplayed. The Jokes are funny! It very much shows in the film that the film company loves the place they live. Even the city itself is clearly involved in making this movie and most likely not for a ton of money that it would normally take. Looks like it's made by Otsego Media in Oneonta NY which you can go to their website right now and they will shoot your wedding if you want. How much more down to Earth can you be?
And, no I don't work for them, don't eve know them. Once upon a time I entered the Phoenix Film Festival where I had to make a film using 3 props and had 3 days to write, film and edit it. Through that experience (and other films I've made that you aint never heard of) I can tell you that all of the elements involved that I saw in Asteroid were done very planned, well done, and within budget. Kudos Otsego Media; I wish you weren't being beat up so badly in the reviews.

15 minutes into it realised this was low budget. Naturally I didn't have my expectations high.
So yes, not the best cinematography, but I loved the acting (for non mainstream actors) by the Dad and daughter. She was brilliant! Hope she gets bigger roles.
The movie is fun to watch, and definitely not crazy Sharknado stuff. It's a pretty darn decent movie for its budget. Definitely worth watching to see the natural life real reactions between parents, kids & their technology.
Some parts were great to get you moved & teary for a budget movie.
Disappointing to not see ANY asteroid footage 😂, but hey, definitely worth watching for the characters of the lead and the daughter. I'd love to see her more often 👌

I'm not sure why I watched the entire thing. I guess maybe because I haven't neen very exposed to these super low quality US movies before so I'm fascinated and need to form an opinion. Bit honestly I don't know why people waste time making this stuff (money of course, although it's hard to comprehend how it can be profitable.) I'm giving it an extra star becaue the tempo of the movie was good enough to keep me wondering if there was going to happen something interesting, but no, other than taking some shots at corporations stealing our information and powerful money interests doing anything to make a buck this movie offers absolutely nothing. Don't waste your time. The few bright points are not worth it.
