Amy Adams, Jessica Harper, Kerry O'Malley, Scoot McNairy, Ella Thomas, Zoë Chao, and Mary Holland in Nightbitch (2024)

Review by lucy_briggs

Nightbitch

9/10

This is a therapeutic revelation for mothers

This is directorial, empathic, and emotional GENIUS for any mother that knows the struggle.

The problem is the title & categorisation. It's not a comedy horror at all. It's a surreal drama. "Night B***h" is also a provocative, fun name. This is NOT a fun film. So viewers are kind of set up for disappointment: They're not getting what they signed up for at all.

It's also highly niche as frankly, you won't relate to this film unless you're a mum.

Years of sleep deprivation, physical trauma, and abuse (yes - children can be highly abusive towards their parents:) You cannot comprehend it unless you've lived it.

Amy Adams gives her best performance to date. It lifts the veil on that which we covet: the "happily married" couple, the big house in the suburbs, the mum who can afford to stay at home. How lucky! When the reality is servitude, drudgery, isolation, and total loss of self.

If you or anyone around you has just had a baby, watch this. You'll learn 10 X as much as you would from reading "what to expect when you're expecting".
