BTS Army Documentary ‘Forever We Are Young’ Sets July Theatrical Release
Image
“Forever We Are Young,” a new documentary charting BTS’ global rise to fame through the lens of their fans, is coming to theaters next month.

The feature-length documentary, by award-winning directors Grace Lee and Patty Ahn, will hit screens on July 30 via Trafalgar Releasing. The film centers around the massive fandom of the K-pop superstars — a.k.a the BTS Army, an acronym standing for Adorable Representative M.C. for Youth, which currently has 90 million members globally.

“There is no BTS without Army and no Army without BTS,” Lee and Ahn said in a statement. “We’re excited for audiences to go on an emotional journey and meet a fandom that made us laugh, cry and think. We were constantly moved by the fans’ power, resilience, creativity and humor and hope audiences will be too.”

BTS and Seventeen Concert Films Head to Rakuten Viki (Exclusive)

An agreement between agency firm Hybe Corp. and Rakuten Viki provides a slate of nine concert films, variety shows, documentaries from July 5, kicking off with “BTS Speak Yourself in Seoul Final.”

While the content deals are not exclusive, the deal is the first time that Rakuten Viki is partnering with Hybe to bring its K-Pop content to the platform. Rakuten Viki also claims to be the largest streaming destination for Asian content globally, with 90 million users and that potentially puts Hybe’s content in front of larger pockets of fandom that smaller, interest-focused streamers or the large general interest streamers. Rakuten Viki operates a hybrid business model with ad-supported free viewing (AVOD) and premium (SVOD) tiers.

‘BTS: Yet To Come’ Sings Green On Screen – Specialty Box Office
Image
K-Pop legend BTS may be on hiatus but fans are decidedly not. Concert film BTS: Yet To Come hit no. 5 at the North American Box office this weekend with 5.1 million on 1,100+ screens, for a cume topping 7.8 million from the first showing Feb. 1.

The group announced last year it was planning to take a break. In October, after their one-off live concert to support the bid by Busan, Korea’s second biggest city, for the World Expo 2030, BTS said its seven members were planning to fulfill the Korean government’s mandatory military service and reconvene as a group in 2025. That concert footage has been cut, re-edited and remixed for the big screen.

“The members of BTS are currently moving forward with plans to fulfill their military service. After the phenomenal concert to support Busan’s bid for the World Expo 2030, and as each individual embarks on solo endeavors, it’s the...

The only categories that didn’t go to the “Drag Race” extended universe were Best Fight (“Untucked” queens Kandy Muse and Tamisha Iman lost to a dust-up between the Kardashian sisters) and Best International Reality Series (the UK edition of “Drag” was bested by “Love Island”).

With ‘Hocus Pocus’ Right Behind ‘Tenet,’ It’s Another Weird Box-Office Weekend
Image
As Regal Theaters in the U.S. and U.K. parent Cineworld weigh closing their cinemas, this weekend’s box office offered little encouragement as this weekend’s top 10 came to about $8.2 million, and could be $10 million-$11 million for all films. That’s down from $9.6 million for last weekend’s top 10, which saw about $12 million overall. By comparison: This weekend in 2019, with the opening of “Joker,” brought in $150 million overall.

“Tenet,” by far the biggest contributor to domestic returns since it opened a month ago ,held well again, down 21 percent with $2.7 million. It has reached $45.1 million domestic so far, for $307 million worldwide.

The only country that is not reliant on “Tenet” is China, where local titles have driven the grossed to over $1 billion in the last six weeks. This weekend (a holiday there) showed two titles both gross over $150 million with “My People My Homeland” and the animated “Jiang Ziya.

Bo Report: Resilient ‘Tenet’ prevails over ‘After We Collided’ and ‘Bill & Ted’ reboot
Image
‘After We Collided.’

Five new mainstream titles entered the market last weekend – but none could beat the third frame of Warner Bros’ Tenet, which is benefiting from repeat business.

Product-starved exhibitors welcomed the influx and were pleasantly surprised by the turnout for Roadshow’s After We Collided but disappointed with Madman Entertainment’s Bill & Ted Face the Music.

A home entertainment release in the US, Paramount’s Paw Patrol: Jet to the Rescue drew a reasonable number of kids and families while fans of Korean boy band BTS flocked to Trafalgar Releasing’s Break the Silence: The Movie.

Released by Universal, Slim & I, Kriv Stenders’ biopic on country music star Joy McKean and her determination to be recognised as a performer and songwriter in her own right, resonated in regional locations.

Numero reported the top 20 titles generated $4.2 million, nearly 30 per cent up on the previous frame. “We have what I...

BTS Movie’s Release Delayed in South Korea Due to Coronavirus
Image
The South Korean release of a new film about K-pop superstars BTS has been indefinitely delayed, due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The documentary film “Break The Silence: The Movie” had been scheduled for a Sept. 10 release in South Korean theaters. However, the Yonhap news agency said Wednesday that it will not go ahead on that date.

The band’s label Big Hit Entertainment blamed the recent spike in coronavirus cases in the country, which is notably centered on capital city and entertainment hub Seoul.

The film is scheduled to be the fourth theatrical film release featuring the band. It was set for rollout in 70 markets on Sept. 10 and more than 40 other territories from Sept. 24. Big Hit Entertainment said that overseas releases may still go ahead according to previously announced schedules, but those plans may also change.

The film is produced by Big Hit Three Sixty, a subsidiary of Big Hit Entertainment.
