A Serbian Film

FAQ

Unearthed films is releasing the uncensored cut 01/19/21.

No one has answered this question yet.

During the Q&A for the screening at the South by Southwest Film Festival, director and writer Srdjan Spasojevic described it as an angry response to Serbia's aggressive censorship laws. He said, "This is a diary of our own molestation by the Serbian government. We're giving this back to you." He also argued that the central theme of rape-murder has a point. "It's about the monolithic power of leaders who hypnotize you to do things you don't want to do. You have to feel the violence to know what it's about."

In order to receive a rating by the BBFC the movie had to be cut. As the BBFC states cuts required to remove portrayals of children in a sexualised or abusive context and images of sexual and sexualised violence which have a tendency to eroticise or endorse the behaviour. Cuts made in accordance with BBFC Guidelines and policy. In total more than 4 minutes had to be removed.

To be honest, quite a bit, as it was already banned twice before a rating could be attached. In accordance to the Classification Board guidelines, all links to anything abhorrent and indecent sexual fantasies had to be removed, as well as necrophilia and pedophilia. Some violence was also cut from the "Warm, Family Home" scene near the end, stating that the violence "pushed the boundaries of the R18+ rating". All in all, about 3 minutes and 50 seconds were cut from the film. The biggest scene cut is when Milos watches the tape of his Agent getting brutally murdered by a masked figure. It has now since become banned again.

In the scene where Milo is talking to his wife in their bedroom about some translations she's making.
