Didn't pack much of a bite...

When I sat down to watch the 2020 movie "Teenage Vampire", I must admit that I wasn't really harboring much of any hopes for this turning out to be a particularly great movie, given the title of this movie. But still, with it being a movie that I hadn't already seen, of course I opted to give "Teenage Vampire" a chance.

And as I had initially anticipated, then writers Aaron Lee Lopez and Paul Matthew Lopez didn't really manage to deliver a movie that was entertaining to me. I suppose I was just not the right target audience for a movie such as this 2020 movie.

The movie had a nice enough production value to it and good editing, sure. But the storyline was a swing and a miss in terms of providing me with much entertainment or enjoyment. And truth be told, I made it about halfway through, then I just gave up on it because I was growing more and more bored.

The acting performances in the movie were adequate, but again, there wasn't much in terms of storyline, character gallery or dialogue that appealed to me, so it was difficult to get submerged into the performances put on by the actors and actresses in the movie.

My rating of "Teenage Vampire" lands on a mere four out of ten stars.

Watch TEEN WITCH (1989) first, and weep for what could've been

It feels like this film had some idea of what it wanted to be, but it just never quite hits the sweet-spot of nostalgic cheese it was obviously aiming for. You can tell a conscious attempt was made to keep the decade that TEENAGE VAMPIRE is set in purposefully vague (although a high-tech bowling alley and the presence of a cell phone thwart this attempt somewhat), but a slightly bigger budget might've helped in overcoming the obvious limitations in the final result.

The traditional oversimplified high school movie cliches are present and accounted for here, including the not-so-secretly gorgeous nerd girl lead character who undergoes a transformation from drab to fab thanks to her newfound supernatural powers, her awkward but sassy best friend, and her annoying dorky little brother. The vampire cheerleader clique comes across as typical mean girls, but they don't have the supernatural otherworldly charm that you'd expect from bloodsuckers who've been the popular kids for literally decades.

Of course, the main target audience for this movie is Gen-Z tweens and teens, who might look up from their phones long enough to be mildly entertained. Their Millennial parents who attempt to watch along with them will definitely catch a familiar scent from their own childhood, but the potential is ultimately wasted in a film that neither works as a dark teen comedy nor a cheesy teen comedy.

Oozing swill.

Don't judge a book by it's cover, except here you can. From the title to the stupidly bad cover. Pure trash in every way. Avoid like the plague. They also closed the comments on the official Youtube trailer. You hardly need to guess why.

CHEESY

The actors are definitely in the *GROWTH* stage of their career, but I thought it was cheesy fun. There were some good satirical moments that I found refreshing after the never ending onslaught of Sensual Vamp movies. I think it will be fun to see some of the main actors grow in their careers and pursue their potential. Some of the one-bit characters were REALLY cringy with their acting, but I found it entertaining imaging the director talking his neighbor into being in this vamp movie. If you plan on watching it, just be prepared for 90 minutes of extreme cheesiness and you may enjoy the experience. That said, I did watch it on a streaming service which displayed it like a blockbuster, so what I got really threw me for a while.

Laughable in a bad way!

Terrible acting! They sounded ridiculous trying to talk with their fangs,(like Sylvester the cat.) They stood around half the movie hissing at each other like feral cats. The "wooden" stakes were clearly rubber. Just save your time.

Worst Acting

The people were cute, but the acting was absolutely cringy and awful. I lost time I can never get back. Truly crime worthy how bad the acting, plot, and speaking lines came down to. Save your precious time and leave this move in the unwatched section.

Depends on who you are

I find it really important to consider the target audience when reviewing a movie.

The target audience for this movie is ages 11 to 15, with 12 to 13 being dead on. Rating should have been PG13 for kissing and a little booze. There is not a single swear word and at the most a bit of french kissing. Other than that its squeaky clean. Rare now a days even in kids movies.

It has heart. Yes, its cheesy. Yes, the acting is only ok. The plot is paper thin. But it does entertain. Would I play it for a bunch of adults? Heck no. But for a bunch of tweens near Halloween time it is fine, specially with popcorn and snacks. They will have a good time.

Teenage Vampire is one of those movies you grew up watching, it's exciting, thrilling, action, and most of all fun. This movie has characters are relatable reminding you of those movies you grew up watching.

This is a movie movie to watch with a date, all friends around together, and family movie night.

Cute Girls, Decent Action

The title says about all I have to say. The film is amateurish. It's TV quality, at best. But then: cute girls, and decent action. Their fights are really not that bad. And they do their own stunts; without cut-aways, stand-ins, and other obvious cheating tricks. Most Hollywood movies will not do that. Even a few Hong Kong kung fu films would use disappointing cuts during fights. If teenage girls can win the Olympics in gymnastics, you can trust them to recite a few martial-arts moves. And these girls do. AND, they're cute. As a film, it's worth maybe 4. But for me, it's an 8.

Family movie

Great movie, I just added to my scary movie collection. I went to watch it with my fiance and her twin sister. We loved it, I can't wait to watch the sequel. I definitely recommend you guys to watch this film. We're having a Holloween party next month and we're planning on watching scary movies and this one is definitely on our list.

Cheerleaders! Vampires! Crushes

This movie has all the drama of high school life....the popular, those that want to be popular, boys, crushes, cheerleaders and vampires....vampires who want to take over the school. Fun twist to high school life-- another tween movie with humor, twists and suspense.

Teenage Vampire/fun film for the kids during Halloween.

Designed for the pre-teen audience, this film has great performances from Actors Claire Tablizo (Chase) , Jaeden Riley Juarez (Pam) and Gabby Garcia (Sin) amongst the few. The Funniest of the bunch is Tres Allison (Dean) the nerdy comic book brother who knows everything about Vampires.

The film reminds me of a 1980's style movie with normal teen problems. All trying to fit into the world of high school society. I really enjoyed the listening to the soundtrack through out the movie. Very, Neo - Retro 80's feel almost like the show Stranger Things. The kids in this film really look like teens rather than 25 year olds playing teens so that's a plus.

One things special to look for in this film is that the film delivers a fun message with no profanity or nudity, That's a rare form these days, It also does not spend anytime with cell phones and social media stuff. The story happens in real time with real characters talking to each other. I give this movie a 10.

Great movie for a family introducing their kids to Vampire films.

Imagine being ten years old. And seeing your first vampire film! This won't give you nightmares but will give your kids a moment of 'scary' introduction to the world of vampire movies!!!

Surprisingly good

It's made for all ages so that is what you get. If you want to introduce young kids to vampires without scaring them then this is the way to do it. They will like it and not be too scared.

Great Family Movie

Anyone who puts a bad review just does not understand what this movie was made for. This a family movie. This was not made to be some horror or sci-fi movie. You can tell it was made so young families could sit down and watch together. I love blood and gut vampire movies but I am not going to watch them with my 5 year old and have her sleep in my bed for the next week. This is a great movie to share my love of vampires with my young kids. If you understand that up front and don't expect every vampire movie to be blood and guts you will love this movie.
