Signature Entertainment has acquired the rights to distribute the action-packed fantasy film from Millennium Media. While the movie has already been sold in multiple international markets, an official release date has not yet been announced.

Back in the 70s and 80s, films like Sunray: Fallen Soldier were a staple of action cinema. Soldiers returning from Vietnam found their neighbourhood or small town overrun by criminals and had to put their combat training to use on the home front. As is the case here, it often had a personal element, such as the family business being threatened or a child overdosing.

The latter was, and continues to be, a common theme in revenge films, even without the military aspect. Of course in these films, nobody ever suggests that maybe if the protagonist had been a better parent they wouldn’t need to be seeking revenge, but that’s another matter.

The BBC released a trailer for upcoming drama series Miss Austen, with Keeley Hawes (Bodyguard, Line of Duty, It’s A Sin) starring as Jane Austen’s sister Cassandra, on Tuesday and unveiled a Sunday, Feb. 2 launch date.

In the U.S., the series will air on Masterpiece on PBS from Sunday, May 4.

All four episodes will become available on its BBC iPlayer streaming service from 6 a.m. London time that day, and the series will begin airing weekly episodes on BBC One that evening. Adapted from Gill Hornby’s best-selling novel of the same name, the drama is produced by Bonnie Productions for Masterpiece, in association with the BBC.

Fans of The Witcher series rejoice, as Netflix has just shared a new trailer for the upcoming anime film, The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep. The new trailer gives fans a first glimpse at the movie, as well as featuring some of the returning voice talent.

The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep is the second animated film in The Witcher series, following on from 2021's The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf. Once again animated by Studio Mir, the film was originally set for a 2024 release before being bumped back to 2025. It's based on the short story "A Little Sacrifice" by series creator Andrzej Sapkowksi, drawing directly from established material. The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep will premiere on Netflix on Feb. 11, 2025. This new animated movie is set within the same universe as the live-action Witcher series on Netflix. However, American voice actor Doug Cockle is reprising his role as Geralt for the upcoming movie. Cockle played the titular hero in the video game trilogy developed by CD Projekt Red (Cyberpunk 2077) from 2007 to 2015.

The upcoming Section 31, which was directed by Olatunde Osunsanmi, stars Oscar winner Michelle Yeoh as the Mirror Universe version of Philippa Georgiou, the character she originated on 24 episodes of the streaming series Star Trek: Discovery. This version of Georgiou joins Starfleet on a risky mission where billions of lives are at risk.

The streamer has renewed its animated series Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft for a second season. The pickup was a relatively quick one, coming just two weeks after the eight-episode first season premiered.

Based on the long-running Tomb Raider video game franchise, The Legend of Lara Croft follows the adventurer (voiced by Hayley Atwell) after the events of Square Enix’s video game reboot trilogy. The show aims to fill in a gap in Croft’s story between the reboot trilogy (which served as something of an origin story for the character) and the original games.

Season two, per Netflix, will find Lara discovering a trail of stolen African Orisha masks. “She joins forces with her best friend Sam (voiced by Karen Fukuhara in season one) to retrieve the precious artifacts,” the logline reads.

Rafe Spall will star opposite Kelly Reilly in Sky’s upcoming crime thriller series Under Salt Marsh. Also joining the cast are Jonathan Pryce, Naomi Yang and Harry Lawtey.

In the six-part drama, Spall will play a detective who returns to the fictional Welsh town of Morfa Halen to lead an investigation into the death of a child, in a community he had failed previously.

The series is set in a tight-knit community precariously nestled between towering mountains and a fast-encroaching sea that threatens its very existence. Per the synopsis: “As a once-in-a-generation storm begins to gather far out at sea, former detective-turned-teacher Jackie Ellis [Reilly] discovers the body of her eight-year-old pupil, Cefin, seemingly drowned. Rafe Spall (The English, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom) and Kelly Reilly (Yellowstone, Here) will lead Sky Original’s new crime thriller, Under Salt Marsh, now in production.

Jonathan Pryce (The Crown, Slow Horses), Naomi Yang (Nightsleeper, Wolfe) and Harry Lawtey (Industry, Joker: Folie à Deux) will also feature in the six-part limited event series, which earlier confirmed Reilly’s involvement, created and directed by Claire Oakley.

At long last, we got our first look at the second season of The Sandman during Netflix's Geeked Week. The show will continue to adapt Neil Gaiman's seminal fantasy comic about Dream and his band of eternal siblings, each of which represents a different as aspect of the human condition. Dream is the lord of dreams, which puts him in contact with all sorts of characters from myth and legend. The second season will adapt a story from the comics where a bunch of them travel to Dream's realm to attend to a matter of succession, which means Egyptian gods mingle with Norse gods mingle with freaky demons. It should be a good time.

The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep comes out in 2025, and Netflix's new adaptation looks even more promising than season 4. Netflix's Witcher franchise currently consists of the main live-action series and two spinoffs: the animated film, Nightmare of the Wolf, and a one-season series dubbed The Witcher: Blood Origin. Another spinoff will join Netflix's lineup in the near future, and unlike the previous two, it will follow Geralt of Rivia. The character will be voiced by Doug Cockle, who portrays him in The Witcher video games.

The excitement of Geeked Week continues! Last night Netflix dropped a ton of teasers and reveals for many of its biggest shows. We found out that Avatar: The Last Airbender has cast Toph for season 2, One Piece added new cast members, Squid Game season 2 got a teaser, and so many more things it'd be crazy to try to list them all. Netflix was building up their series The Witcher, which is inspired by a series of novels by Andrzej Sapkowski, to be a major franchise. In addition to the flagship show, they made the anime film The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf and a prequel mini-series called The Witcher: Blood Origin, with another anime movie called The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep and a couple other spin-offs in the works… but now it looks like it’s all winding down. Netflix has revealed our first look at the upcoming horror movie outing, Dont Move, as part of Netflix Geeked Week. And its premise is killer. Netflix's upcoming animated film The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep will offer more monster-hunting action, and there have already been several major updates regarding Geralt's latest adventure. Kate Freund penned the script for Ballerina Overdrive, which reportedly will center around "a troupe of ballerinas who find themselves fighting for survival as they attempt to escape from a remote inn after their bus breaks down on the way to a dance competition." Lana Condor, Millicent Simmonds (A Quiet Place) and Iris Apatow (The Bubble) were among the first announced as cast members of the action feature film, which Deadline reported first. Lena Headey (Game of Thrones), Yara Shahidi (Grown-ish) and Isabela Merced were also originally attached, but they have since dropped the project.

Pop culture enthusiasts know well that live-action adaptations of renowned mangas have a poor track record. We finally have the first teaser trailer for Netflix's Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft (via GameFragger.com) and, perhaps the most intriguing thing about this series is the fact it picks up after the events of the latest video game.

Typically, a show like this would be a straightforward adaptation of a game or an original story that draws inspiration from it. How accessible this "sequel" approach will make The Legend of Lara Croft remains to be seen, though the sneak peek promises a fun, action-packed adventure.
