Last year, an adaptation of the Stephen King novel The Long Walk (which was, like The Running Man and Thinner, published under the pen name Richard Bachman) went into production, with director Francis Lawrence, whose previous credits include Constantine, I Am Legend, Water for Elephants, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Parts 1 and 2, Red Sparrow, Slumberland, and The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, at the helm. Now, Lawrence has confirmed to the folks at Collider that post-production work on the film is almost complete, and he’s “super happy” with it.
An adaptation of The Long Walk has been trudging through development hell for decades. At one point, the rights were in the hands of Frank Darabont, who made the King adaptations The Shawshank Redemption, The Green Mile, and The Mist. Then the rights passed over to New Line Cinema, where Scary Stories to...

The fourth season of the fantasy drama has been confirmed for a 2025 release. So that's official and we know it's coming this year. The announcement was a part of an epic day of updates by Netflix where the streamer dropped news about all the content that's coming this year. Thankfully, season 4 is one of the shows to expect in 2025! Which should be the case since season 3 premiered all the way back in July 2023. It's been a long time!

Beyond the excellent novels and video games that made The Witchera household name, the fantasy IP has become a rather lucrative property for Netflix. Between the Henry Cavill-starring live-action series, a prequel series entitled The Witcher: Blood Origin, and the anime film Nightmare of the Wolf, the Witcher franchise continues to expand in new and ambitious ways, for better or worse. Joining the fray is a second anime film, The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep, arriving three years after Nightmare of the Wolf.

Netflix was building up their series The Witcher, which is inspired by a series of novels by Andrzej Sapkowski, to be a major franchise. In addition to the flagship show, they made the anime film The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf and a prequel mini-series called The Witcher: Blood Origin, with another anime movie called The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep and a couple other spin-offs in the works… but recently, it has looked like it was all winding down. The Witcher season 4 recently wrapped production with Liam Hemsworth taking over the role of Geralt of Rivia from former star Henry Cavill, Netflix announced that season 5 will be the end of the show. And while The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep is set to be released on February 11th, there was a rumor that it might be the last of the spin-offs, with two others, one called The Rats and...

Back in the 70s and 80s, films like Sunray: Fallen Soldier were a staple of action cinema. Soldiers returning from Vietnam found their neighbourhood or small town overrun by criminals and had to put their combat training to use on the home front. As is the case here, it often had a personal element, such as the family business being threatened or a child overdosing.
The latter was, and continues to be, a common theme in revenge films, even without the military aspect. Of course in these films, nobody ever suggests that maybe if the protagonist had been a better parent they wouldn’t need to be seeking revenge, but that’s another matter.

Netflix is one of the biggest and most famous streaming services in the world, with many talked-about series in its expanding library. The platform has made many huge hits, including but not limited to Stranger Things, Squid Game, The Witcher, and Outer Banks. These shows massively grew in popularity and became staples of the Netflix brand. Every so often, Netflix has an ambitious new show to give subscribers.
However, there have been several instances when those anticipated series failed to meet viewers' modest-to-high expectations. Whether it was an adaptation of beloved source material, a reboot, a spin-off, or featured promising talent and ideas, these Netflix original shows failed to live up to the hype. Between Resident Evil, Cowboy Bebop, and Space Force, these Netflix series let critics and audiences down the most.

Netflix's upcoming animated film The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep will offer more monster-hunting action, and there have already been several major updates regarding Geralt's latest adventure. Continuing the streamer's expanded universe based on the Witcher books series by author Andrzej Sapkowski, The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep is the second animated film produced for the platform, and the first piece of Witcher media since the departure of Henry Cavill from the live-action series. The new animated feature delves deeper into the character's past and adapts a short story by Sapkowski which has never been brought to the screen before.
Henry Cavill's turn as Geralt in the live-action series had viewers streaming the show in droves, but Cavill left the role after The Witcher season 3. Netflix has hedged their bets though, and they not only produced a 2022 spinoff series entitled The Witcher: Blood Origin, but also a 2021 animated feature,...

The Witcher season 1 was fun, but watching it aga five years later does carry with it a certain few harsh realities. Based on the famous Witcher video game and Andrzej Sapkowski's books, season 1 was a hit on Netflix, but it garnered mixed reviews and a varied fan response. While The Witcher season 3 is just as confusing as previous seasons in many ways, it also ties up numerous long-standing storylines and feels gratifying and visually epic. However, the show still had some work to do back in season 1.
As The Witcher nears season 4, it will be looking back on its previous outings, as will fans, evaluating past successes and mistakes. The show has huge pressure to perform in the coming years with a new actor stepping into the role of Geralt of Rivia (now Liam Hemsworth after Henry Cavill). As the main character of The Witcher, Geralt's importance can't be understated.

Streaming platforms prefer shows and miniseries over movies because it keeps a user engaged for a longer period of time. A viewer might watch a 90-minute film and log off, which means less activity and less revenue. But if a viewer starts a show or a miniseries, especially if it can be binged, then they’ll be logged in for upwards of 200 minutes, which means more activity and more revenue. This greed for engagement (allegedly) motivates producers and OTTs to push storytellers to turn their feature-length scripts into episodic ones. I know that that sounds wild, but if you watch a decent amount of shows and miniseries, you’ll begin to notice which of them were meant to be a movie and were then forcibly expanded into a show or miniseries. Some of them may fly under the radar, but some of them have such paper-thin plots due to all...

Taking place twelve hundred years before the events of The Witcher TV show, The Witcher: Blood Origin tells the story of seven elves and their fight against a corrupt empire, and Avallach (Samuel Blenkin) is an important figure. Premiering on Netflix in 2022, Blood Origin is a very loose adaptation of Andrzej Sapkowski's Witcher novels, and centers on the seven warriors who fight against the Golden Empire. Most of the characters in Blood Origin are original creations for the series, but there is one supporting player who also appears in The Witcher books and video games: Avallach.

The Witcher franchise is a popular fantasy story beloved by many, but certain installments of the Netflix series and its spin-off, The Witcher: Blood Origin, are better than others. Based on The Witcher books by Andrzej Sapkowski and the video game series, Netflixs adaptation follows the journey of monster hunter Geralt of Rivia.

In 2022, Netflix released a miniseries called The Witcher: Blood Origin, which takes place 1,000 years before The Witcher. Netflix also released an animated film in 2021 called The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf, which focuses on Vesemir's story. Netflix recently...

Netflix is plotting a new set of adventures for its version of Lara Croft.
The streamer has renewed its animated series Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft for a second season. The pickup was a relatively quick one, coming just two weeks after the eight-episode first season premiered.
Based on the long-running Tomb Raider video game franchise, The Legend of Lara Croft follows the adventurer (voiced by Hayley Atwell) after the events of Square Enix’s video game reboot trilogy. The show aims to fill in a gap in Croft’s story between the reboot trilogy (which served as something of an origin story for the character) and the original games.
Season two, per Netflix, will find Lara discovering a trail of stolen African Orisha masks. “She joins forces with her best friend Sam (voiced by Karen Fukuhara in season one) to retrieve the precious artifacts,” the logline reads.

Right now, Netflix is deep into production on the fourth season of its monster-hunting fantasy series The Witcher. Thanks to some recent interviews with the show's new lead actor Liam Hemsworth, who is taking over the role of Geralt of Rivia following the departure of Henry Cavill, we know that production should be wrapping up any day now. Soon, the trickle of information about The Witcher season 4 will begin getting heavier as it moves into post-production and we near its eventual release date, which is expected to be sometime in 2025.
With all the recent Witcher talk from Hemsworth, it's gotten me thinking back on the series as a whole and some of its ups and downs. The Witcher is in an interesting spot as far as adaptations go; it's based on the series of books and short stories by Andrzej Sapkowski, but also tries to pay homage to the wildly...

The cast of The Running Man just keeps getting better, and Edgar Wright is adding yet another former Marvel villain to the mix: Lee Pace is joining fellow MCU vet Josh Brolin in Wright's upcoming adaptation of Stephen King's classic dystopian thriller. Both Pace and Brolin will be playing villains in the film, which stars Glen Powell as protagonist Ben Richards, a.k.a. the titular running man.
THR reports that Lee Pace has joined the cast of The Running Man, Edgar Wright's new adaptation of the classic 1982 novel, which was previously adapted into a 1987 action thriller starring Arnold Schwarzenegger. Published under the pseudonym Richard Bachman, The Running Man is set in a dystopian 2025 ruled by an ultra-wealthy minority, and if you think that sounds prescient as hell, just wait: the only way regular working-class folks can gain financial security is by participating in one of several reality competition shows,...

There were two things that Tasha Huo (“The Witcher: Blood Origin”) wanted to accomplish as showrunner of the “Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft” 2D animated series (currently streaming on Netflix). She wanted to make the badass archaeologist/adventurer more vulnerable and explore Chinese mythology.
“She’s always been such a superhero in the video games,” Huo told IndieWire, “but in a TV show, we get to explore more about her emotional place where you want to see her grow out of something difficult. So that was always a starting place for me, finding a low point for her. And how does Lara Croft come out of a low point? It’s going to be more epic by the nature of who she is and the adventure we set her upon.”

At long last, we got our first look at the second season of The Sandman during Netflix's Geeked Week. The show will continue to adapt Neil Gaiman's seminal fantasy comic about Dream and his band of eternal siblings, each of which represents a different as aspect of the human condition. Dream is the lord of dreams, which puts him in contact with all sorts of characters from myth and legend. The second season will adapt a story from the comics where a bunch of them travel to Dream's realm to attend to a matter of succession, which means Egyptian gods mingle with Norse gods mingle with freaky demons. It should be a good time.
We got a glimpse of some of these newcomers in a behind-the-scenes video. I want to draw attention to a couple of people in particular, since they're veterans of the Game of Thrones universe...

The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep comes out in 2025, and Netflix's new adaptation looks even more promising than season 4. Netflix's Witcher franchise currently consists of the main live-action series and two spinoffs: the animated film, Nightmare of the Wolf, and a one-season series dubbed The Witcher: Blood Origin. Another spinoff will join Netflix's lineup in the near future, and unlike the previous two, it will follow Geralt of Rivia. The character will be voiced by Doug Cockle, who portrays him in The Witcher video games.
Amid Geralt's Witcher season 4 recast, the notion of Cockle bringing the character to life is especially exciting. And the first look at Sirens of the Deep is promising. The trailer for Sirens of the Deep debuted during Netflix's Geeked Week event, showing the conflict Geralt will face in the upcoming film. Pop culture enthusiasts know well that live-action adaptations of renowned mangas have a poor track record. Be it 2009’s Dragonball Evolution, 2017’s Death Note, or Fullmetal Alchemist, manga live-action adaptations often tend to go terribly wrong. Now, with Naruto‘s adaptation being developed, the fans are apprehensive that we may be heading towards another disastrous attempt to recreate an iconic IP in live-action.

Netflix dropped the teaser trailer for “Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft,” the animated series (premiering October 10) that reintroduces the badass archaeologist/adventurer from the popular video game franchise. This comes on the heels of Netflix’s anime adaptation of James Cameron’s “Terminator” franchise, “Terminator Zero” (premiering August 29), from Skydance, Japanese animation studio Production I.G, and showrunner Mattson Tomlin.
