You'd definitely enjoy if you are into rom-coms, but more on the comedy side.

In my opinion, it's more of a comedy than a romance anime. However, I'm only 5 episodes in, so that could change.

I rarely give out 9's, but this show deserved it and then some

Before I start this review, let me say that I was thinking VERY closely about whether to give this a 9 or a 10. I've only given a few shows ever a 10, and 9s are also pretty rare, so that should tell you how much I loved this show.

This is not the deepest show ever, nor is it the best made. It's not the funniest show ever, and it doesn't have the best drama. The thing that this show IS the best at is making me smile. Every week throughout the entire spring anime season, I saved Nagatoro for last out of the 12 shows I watched because I always like it the best, and you know what they say. (For those that don't know what they say, it's "save the best for last.") Every single episode of this show, from beginning to end, I was smiling basically the whole time! There are so many happy, funny, wholesome, cute, and entertaining moments it's hard not to like this show. Honestly I wasn't even going to give this show a try at all, because who wants to see a show about someone getting bullied for an entire season? But god, I'm glad I did.

No one in this entire show is stereotypical, and everyone is unique. Sure, everything still abides by anime laws, but goddamn if I didn't love every single person as a character. They all felt different and interesting in their own way! Senpai is an absolute chad, even though he's a wimp on the surface. I'm sure that's why Nagatoro likes him as well. And while Nagatoro seems like a bully on the surface, not so deep down she's just a kind of lonely, if not a bit lovesick, girl. She's your typical tsundere, but at the same time she's 1000 times better than any tsundere in any other show and you cannot debate me on this. This may be the one show that I don't really have a problem with the two live interests getting together, because they produce such funny and wholesome moments with their current dynamic. Especially towards the end, things get super wholesome and fun. The rest of Nagatoro's friends are fun too. I didn't think I would end up liking them, but they all have their own characters. In the end they aren't as likable as Senpai or Nagatoro, but they have their own special charms.

The art in this show is actually super nice. It has a distinct style, it's really colorful and detailed, and the animation is really well done (and at times hilarious.) It really gives off the impression that the animators had the time of their lives animating this show, and I love it!

The OP is absolutely FANTASTIC. I bought the song it after hearing it once, and the visuals are really, really cool. Hands down the best OP of the season, if not the past 10 years. The ED is fun visually too, and I liked the song for different reasons. The OST is really nice, it's not really in your face, but it just adds a lot to the atmosphere. Along those lines, but the little sound effects that were added make the show so much better! I don't know how to describe them, but they are really fun and funny. Superb.

In my opinion, every single episode in this show is better than the last. It starts at about an 8, and then by the end it's a 10 (especially the final after credits scene) which is why I'm giving it a 9. It's probably the best out of all the shows I've given a 9 too. In my opinion, an 8 is a show that you really, really enjoyed, a 9 is a phenomenal show that you absolutely loved, and a 10 is either a masterpiece with either nothing wrong with it, or just such an enjoyable show you can't help but give it the highest score possible. An example of a masterpiece 10 is violet evergarden and an enjoyable 10 is k-on. Honestly I have no doubt that if this series gets a full adaptation, or at least one with a concrete ending, i will give it a 10. You can check and see how many of the 120 (current) shows I have rated a 10/10. 4. 3 shows and a movie of 120. And Nagatoro will be one of them. Not this season, but I've heard that it only keeps getting better, so I have even higher hopes for next season. Season 2, will you please just come out already!?!!???! I need you right now!!!!!

TL;DR: I CANNOT RECOMMEND THIS SHOW ENOUGH, PLEASE WATCH IT RIGHT NOW. PLEASE. I AM NOT A BOT JUST WATCH IT!!!!

An exclusive 1 for the fans

I must commend the author of this work, cause it's just breath takin to begin with, yes it was a package 1 that comes with a lot of goodies inside , it started out of humiliation and it grew to be funny in a short while in a way to tease and now it's all love.

Don't Toy with Me Miss Nagatoro

Naoto Hachioji is a shy second year student who avoids others and spends most of his time alone in the art room. One day first year girl Hayase Nagatoro encounters him, and on seeing the manga he drew, starts to tease him. Soon she and her friends are heading to the art room to tease him some more. Sensing his awkwardness they flirt with him... while neither can admit it they start to develop feelings for each other... that doesn't mean she will stop teasing him.

On the face of it a comedy about somebody being bullied doesn't sound too appealing; however this manages to pull it off as it becomes clear to the viewer fairly early on that our two protagonists have unstated feelings for each other. Every episode has plenty of laughs and Nagatoro and her friends do occasionally, and hilariously, fall victim to their own schemes. All of the characters are entertaining in their own way and none are as cruel as they first appear. The animation and character designs are good. Overall I'd certainly recommend this series... I just wish there were more episodes.

These comments are based on watching the series in Japanese with English subtitles.

If I could, I'd give it an 11

GOD, I love too much IjiranaideNagatoro-san.

Yes, it is one more romantic comedy, but it happens that its characters are so endearing. The dynamic between these is reinforced little by little as the series progresses, and new characters who were initially annoying, are now an important part. The two leads complement each other very well and it never feels like it's forced, it all works together. I hope a second season comes out as soon as possible, I need more.

Hilarious and problematic at the same time

Yes, this show is funny. Decent animation, good soundtrack, lots of 'fanservice'... it could be a decent show and I'd be inclined to recommend it, but its main selling point is problematic (to put it mildly).

I don't know what kind of fetish this show is supposed to cater and I'm the last one to kink-shame, but the way the female lead character behaves towards the protagonist, even at a stage where she's clear with herself that she likes him, is straight-out abusive. She consistently insults him, humiliates him both psychically and physically and puts him down in front of her friends. The occasional moments where she does stand up for him or when there is something sweet happening between them are rare and hardly make up for that obnoxious and toxic behaviour that you might expect from an elementary school girl, but not from the age group here. Protagonist-senpai, if you're reading this: haul your butt out of there as long as you can! Nagatoro is an outlier on the hot/crazy scale that is not worth your dignity and sanity!

Masochist's wet dream

SENNNNNPAI!

Aiya there's a lot of weird kinds of romance this Spring season. It was the kinkiest anime that I have experienced this season. Our shy artist senpai got physically, mentally, and sexually harassed and bullied by our extremely tsundere Nagatoro-san. Besides Nagatoro, her three friends were just as naughty and teased senpai a great deal. There were many, let me say, exciting scenes that were very funny. It was for sure the most fun I had this season.

The animation of the characters were very dynamic. One thing for sure is that there were lots and lots of cats and noodle arms. It became very excessive and overwhelming, but that's the point of this anime.

Not only was it naughty and funny, the show was also surprisingly sweet. Even though she was extreme, Nagatoro was herself a tsundere. And as a tsundere, there was a reason for the way she acted towards her senpai. Her intention was revealed pretty early on, and it became more apparent towards the end. Our senpai was shy, but overtime he gathered more courage, and I was rooting for him the whole time. And finally, the last episode was very satisfying.

Overall, it's every masochist's wet dream, and I enjoyed every episode. Sad that it's done too early. 9/10.

Endearing as a Whole, Initial Yikes Aside...

The majority of the show displays a fun, turbulent but also wholesome friendship between an unlikely pair, which is all well and good. The first 2 or 3 episodes of season 1, however, makes it difficult to like the titular character (especially when she and her cronies act like walking Title IX lawsuits).

The show quickly finds its more wholesome footing, though (which is only strengthened in season 2), and helps the "will they wont they" plot underneath the 2 main character's Irish-style friendship. It's like the difference between Season 1 of The Office (US) and the rest of the show, where Michael Scott is depicted as mostly a jerk before becoming more endearingly pathetic in Season 2 and onward.

Suffice it to say that while the show may alienate a lot of potential viewers in it's first few episodes, it does improve and limit the harassment to playful teasing.

Read my review to get a perspective

I don't know how I got to watch this show in the first place. It's nice to see a show that isn't all about fighting evil or defeating monsters. But the truth is, it has nothing really to offer. What the show is offering you are feelings. Apparently bullying does pay off! A girl named Nagatoro bullyies a young dude "Senpai" calling him in names even "vir*in" when is only 16 years old, bullying him into tears in the first episode and than going sado-mazo in the second. She toys with him, and the masochist likes it because a girl is paying attention to him. Most of the episodes are just them hanging out together.

From my personal experience I've had a toxic friend in my life. We were colleagues at work and we gratuated from college together. After graduation I broke up with him because I couldn't stand his behavior. Real friendship works out and lasts long when you respect your friend and he respects you back.

The point is that everyone is so "feely" in this show. I believe you can love someone but it doesn't mean you have to lose your head in the process. Rational analytical mindset is missing here. Not everything is so "feely" all the time. Seems like the author is referring himself considering the fact that he is a doujinshi artist and the main character likes art, manga and drawings as well and he is an artist too. It seems the author tries to deliver us "fanservice". I mean It's not a love story as much as it's a lust story. There is no "story" here.

A reasonably good romantic comedy, I guess

I'm usually not really one for romantic comedies (especially not in anime). But after 'My Dress-Up Darling' absolutely blew me away, I thought I'd branch out into this genre as well, hoping to find another show I'd enjoy just as much.

'Don't Toy with Me, Miss Nagatoro' is not that show. That is not to say that it's a bad series; it indeed has many good qualities. The show is entertaining and of consistently good quality, with only half an episode that is an absolutely skippable filler. The English voice acting is top notch, the animation style is enjoyable, and... uh... well, maybe that's it.

On the not-so-positive side, the show also quickly becomes repetitive. Nagatoro, the protagonist's love interest, mercilessly teases the protagonist (who I'm sure also has a name, not that anyone ever bothered to remember it). For a bit of an additional flavour, sometimes Nagatoro's friends will tease the protagonist as well. And if the episode is particularly adventurous, some of that teasing might splash back at Nagatoro, making her flustered for half a minute.

Cue next episode, rinse, repeat. It doesn't help that the protagonist is very much of the utterly passive one-size-fits-all mould that will never strike the slightest controversy, that Nagatoro's friends are absolutely one-dimensional, and that the recurring cast counts five characters in the first season, extending to six-and-a-half characters in the second season.

The premise itself is also a bit problematic. The entire point of the show is that Nagatoro teases the protagonist a lot, and that the protagonist is basically just too pathetic to do anything about it. It'd be a bit harsh to call Nagatoro a sadist, and I'd certainly not call the protagonist a masochist, but perhaps they are sanitised and child-friendly versions of the archetypes. Unfortunately, Nagatoro's teasing regularly skirts the line to bullying, occasionally turning into outright sexual harassment (at least by western cultural standards; I guess Japan might see things differently).

There is some fanservice, which I would consider pretty mild for an anime but outrageous for a Saturday Morning cartoon. For my taste, there were entirely too many 'noodle arms' and cat faces in the show; even for an anime this was pretty over-the-top.

In total, at least for me the show is in that ungodly realm where it's not bad enough that I'd stop watching it but neither good enough that I'd shove it onto the 'discard' pile. If a third season comes out, I'm not sure if I'll begrudgingly watch it or just pretend to ignore it entirely.

Bonus points for Nagatoro not fitting the classical character design mould, though. Not sure when I'd last seen a showrunner with tan-ish skin in an anime.

Honestly, I'm just not sure who the target audience is supposed to be. Young teenagers who just figured out that they're into SM? Perhaps it's better to not follow this thought any further; I ran out of brain bleach years ago.

Quality episodes, always hyped for the next

Episodes are good, funny and full of entertainment. The Rom-Com story and animation is good but the only thing I don't like is the Main Character is bullied (obviously not too harshly), but it still is a loss of motivation of him and is scared someway or the other.

Hilarious and the english dub is excellent

This series is hilarious and just flat out goofy. The girls in the show are just straight up bullies and cute as hell. The jokes they use in the show are very modern and relatable to real life banter. Using the words like "sus" and "my guy" was not at all what I would expect from an anime but the English voice actors absolutely nailed the dub version. I think it's progressing very well and feels good to get away from all the super serious/action packed anime I've been watching so much of lately like Attack on Titan and Demon Slayer. A lot of comedic relief and relatable moments that I really enjoy.

A review for the critical as well as for the light-hearted

Though it started as a bullying type anime it was slowly turning out to be a light hearted anime in which nagatoro tries to to take out his senpai from his introverted lifestyle to a more social life.

The way she expresses her feelings is through bullying only as it's her only way to express her growing crush with senpai I would recommend all of you to watch it from the start to the end. Many people, by watching just one episode, just dropped it down saying that it contains bullying and would be the same. But as the story progresses it starts to get lighhearted and turns its way into a romcom anime.

I recommend to watch it and then see it by yourself if you don't have any belief in me.

Just not very good

The show just has a lack of endearing characters and the weird bullying can often be very off putting and downright creepy at times. The actual romantic chemistry between the two leads is developed pretty well, but since both of them are so unlikable it makes it difficult to care about them. The main guy is just the absolute most pathetic person I have ever seen in a show and it can be infuriating to watch him at times. Meanwhile, the title character, Nagatoro, is often(especially at the beginning of the show) just incredibly mean, not to mention she sexually assaults the MC multiple times. I do still prefer her to the MC, as she has a fair bit of depth to her character, and the MC is really just that annoying. There are also some funny jokes, but mostly the show lands pretty flat in the comedy department as well. Overall, a somewhat well developed romance story held back by its lack of well written characters. If you are looking for something like this but better, I would recommend Toradora.

Weird and Boring

Sexual harassment galore! This show has a bunch of people doing questionable things and no one ever gets in trouble or has to report for it. It's just way too weird for me and I found the characters unlikeable 50% of the time. As a male, I can say that this show probably doesn't represent women that well. So... do whatever you want with that information.

This show is great

Nagatoro is madly in love with Sempi. She never calls him by his actual name. He is shy and introverted. Nagatoro is an athlete who is always loud and full of energy. She frequently teases him in the art club room. Sempi acts like he doesn't enjoy it but he really does. Sometimes Nagatoro's friends tease him too.

Playful Teasing with Heart

Having watched the entire series, I can say that this anime is a refreshing take on the rom-com genre. The story centers around Nagatoro, a high-energy girl who loves teasing her introverted senior, Senpai. What starts as playful bullying evolves into a heartfelt and complex relationship. The art style perfectly captures the characters' exaggerated expressions and adds to the comedic elements. The character development is impressive, especially as Senpai grows more confident and Nagatoro reveals her softer side. This anime strikes a balance between humor and genuine emotional moments, making it a delightful watch for anyone who enjoys a blend of comedy and romance.

It isn't all that great, and I read the manga beforehand.

Rating: 5.0

Favorite Episode: Has Spring Come Even for You, the Unpopular Loner Louse Senpai?/Did You Hear Her Talk About Love, Senpai?

Read the manga thought it was ok, watched the anime did not like it at all. The 2nd viewing revealed just how repetitive this is. Nagatoro's teasing gets extremely stale, and the side characters are really just watered-down nagatoro clones. It's also very average with its use stock romcom clichés from sexual misunderstandings to nagatoro's tsundere/yandere service. The best part of this is the president, you never know what to expect from her, other than that this show isn't very good.
