Rachel Zegler might be young but she has already had a series of coveted roles. She played the lead character in the 2021 remake of West Side Story, joined beloved post-apocalyptical franchise The Hunger Games as the lead star in 2023's The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, and she gets her fairytale role: Snow White in Disney's new live-action movie.
In several new interviews, Zegler noted that she has received a lot of support from the industry. The 23-year-old told Allure that Ariana Grande, who played Glinda in the adaptation of Wicked, reached out to offer support. During an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, the actress also revealed Steven Spielberg gave her a recommendation for the role.

No doubt about: The big guns of Broadway’s spring season are arriving fast and furious, and boosting box office figures from receipts to ticket prices. Another newcomer – Good Night, And Good Luck, starring George Clooney, last week became the latest member of the $2 Million Club with just five previews and just weeks after Othello, starring Denzel Washington and Jake Gyllenhaal, began regularly hitting the rarefied $2 million in weekly receipts.
Also last week Glengarry Glen Ross, headed by Kieran Culkin, Bob Odenkirk and Bill Burr, came very close to the $2M mark with $1,907,467, a house record at the Palace Theatre – and that’s just for seven preview performances; the full eight-performance schedule should push it over the edge. (Opening night is March 31.)
Meanwhile, The Picture of Dorian Gray, starring Succession‘s Sarah Snook in all the roles, pulled in $848,904 for its first six, sold-out previews at the Music Box Theatre.

"Wicked," released with enough green and pink merchandising to choke a horse, has been one of the rare musical extravaganzas to cross over from an audience of theater enthusiasts into the mainstream. Based on the popular Broadway musical starring Idina Menzel and Kristin Chenoweth (which in turn was based on a Gregory Maguire novel of the same name), "Wicked" tells the origin story of the Wicked Witch of the West from "The Wizard of Oz." Elphaba ends up becoming roommates with Glinda (Ariana Grande as the future good witch) while they're both studying magic at university. An unlikely friendship blossoms between the two total opposites -- until it's suddenly tested by the lure of the Wizard and his Emerald City.
"Wicked" was a smash hit, earning over $700 million at the box office and 10 Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture, Best Actress (Erivo), and Best Supporting Actress (Grande). It ultimately won...

Following the success of Wicked's acclaimed film, the original story is receiving a new comic adaptation to re-imagine Elphaba's journey in a captivating way. A graphic novel has been released that takes the tale the movie is based on and portrays its events in a stunning new format that any fan of Wicked should check out.
Wicked: The Graphic Novel Part I: An Enchanting Graphic Novelization of the Inspiration for the Major Motion Picture takes Gregory Maguire's unforgettable narrative and gives it a visual spin in graphic novel format, as adapted and illustrated by Scott Hampton. The story remains consistent with the 1995 novel, redefining beloved characters such as Elphaba and Glinda with eye-catching art, as seen on the gorgeous cover.

Snow White isn’t even out yet, but for some time, it has been one of Disney’s most controversial outings. A lot of things seemingly went wrong with the film, and while the early reviews are very positive, the movie still doesn’t look like a hit for Disney, although that might change.
Be that as it may, the lead actress, Rachel Zegler, was in the midst of most of the controversies surrounding the movie and whichever side you’re taking, you have to admit that it was not hard for the young actress to endure so much pressure. Yet, as it seems, she got some star-level support from a colleague!

Break out the acoustic guitars and tambourines: “A Complete Unknown” will be streaming on Hulu starting next week. The Timothée Chalamet-fronted Bob Dylan biopic has finally set a streaming release date of March 27, when it will be available for all Hulu and Hulu/Disney+ subscribers.
Nominated for eight Oscars including Best Actor and Best Picture, the film charts the early years of Bob Dylan’s rise in the New York City folk scene of the 1960s. The movie chronicles Dylan’s popularity and stardom, and eventual pivot to electric that left many in the folk community feeling burned. His relationship with mentor Pete Seeger (Edward Norton) is a particular focus of the film.
Chalamet prepared to play this role for years and does all his own singing and guitar playing in the film, which earned him many positive notices and a SAG award for Best Actor. Monica Barbaro also...

After completing 13 full weekends in theaters, Mufasa: The Lion King has officially overtaken one of the biggest movies of 2024 at the box office. At the time of writing, The Lion King prequel/sequel has grossed $252 million domestically and $463 million from international markets to give it a worldwide cumulative haul of $716 million. This is enough to push it past Dune: Part Two at the global box office, which finished its theatrical run at $714 million. Denis Villeneuve's sci-fi sequel found more success at the domestic box office, accruing $252 million in total earnings, but it fell short of Mufasa internationally, with only $432 million in foreign markets. Mufasa: The Lion King now stands as the sixth-highest-grossing movie of 2024, roughly $80 million behind Wicked, which finished its theatrical run at $795 million.

As much as I love the format, there are few genres that are more divisive or inconsistent than that of the movie musical. For every crowning achievement, like Wicked, there’s a disaster like Cats. It’s certainly a format that garners a lot of opinions, but there are few stage-to-screen adaptations more loved than Little Shop of Horrors. Based on the 1960 film, The Little Shop of Horrors, and the beloved stage musical, Little Shop is a cult classic that continues to gain popularity year after year, with a star-studded Off-Broadway revival currently drawing names like Sarah Hyland and Jinkx Monsoon into its cast. However, we almost got another tinseled reimagining of the musical in the way of a big-budget remake. Originally set to reunite two MCU greats and include some of the most dynamic talent in Hollywood, the movie was going to be a massive event, until it was gobbled up in development.

Bridgerton is one of Netflix's hit series, based on Julia Quinn's bestselling book series of the same name. The series, set in Regency-era London, follows the titular family and its children on their journey to find love.
The series, which premiered on Netflix in 2020, follows an anthology-like format, switching the main characters every season to allow every Bridgerton sibling to get their chance at glory. The show kicked off with Phoebe Dynevor's Daphne Bridgerton, the second-oldest child and the eldest daughter, and Regé-Jean Page's Simon Bassett. The latter recently addressed whether he would be willing to reprise his role as the Duke of Hastings in a new interview with Entertainment Tonight.
While promoting his latest film, the spy thriller Black Bag, the actor was asked about returning to Bridgerton. Although the romance series follows a different main couple every season, most of the other characters return to reprise their roles,...

If hearing him on “Las Culturistas” and seeing him in “Wicked” and on “Saturday Night Live” wasn’t enough, Bowen Yang is headed back to the big screen alongside Academy Award-nominee Lily Gladstone, and Kelly Marie Tran in “The Wedding Banquet.” Yang is also joined by “Fire Island” collaborator Andrew Ahn, who serves as director and co-writer on this remake of the classic 1993 LGBTQ rom-com from Ang Lee. Watch the trailer for the film below.
Co-written by the original film’s scribe James Schamus and also starring Han Gi-Chan, Joan Chen, and Oscar-winner Yuh-Jung Youn, the official synopsis for the film reads, “‘The Wedding Banquet’ follows a chosen family of four friends each struggling to navigate their adulthood responsibilities and relationships. Keep cool, my babies, because Conan O’Brien will be back to host the 98th Academy Awards after a wildly successful first stint this year. This Oscars news isn’t all that surprising considering how well Conan was received by both viewers and those inside of the Dolby Theatre, but it’s still exciting and came much earlier than we were expecting.
In a statement, Conan O’Brien said, “The only reason I’m hosting The Oscars next year is that I want to hear Adrien Brody finish his speech,” referring to Brody’s record-setting, 5-minute and 36-second acceptance speech for Best Actor.
While Wicked would no doubt be the film that helped pull in the most viewers, having Conan as host was the perfect move in that department as well. The 97th Academy Awards hit upwards of 19.69 million viewers, an increase over last year’s show, which saw Oppenheimer taking home seven Oscars,...

The following contains spoilers for Nine Bodies in a Mexican Morgue Season 1, Episode 3, "Rapido," which debuts Sunday, Mar. 16 on MGM+ .
With two down and seven to go, Nine Bodies in a Mexican Morgue hits the halfway point with “Rapido.” Not only keeping the resurrection of this murder mystery on track but also taking audiences on location. There are still some bad feelings around the camp, but at least a change of scenery brings a fresh perspective. Unfortunately, further complications are inevitable if those men at the Mexican morgue ever hope to find out what happened. Death is in the cards, and everyone has booked an early grave with one exception. Whether at the hands of a silent assailant or an elusive Mexican luchador, their fates are sealed.

It seems the farther away from award season we get, the more 2024 films are finally making their way to streaming. Indeed, Max is not the only service that is adding a few of last year’s best movies to its platform this month. Peacock is also set to host the long-awaited streaming premiere of one of 2024’s biggest, most financially successful and beloved blockbusters. On top of that, the platform has also brought more than a few iconic, timeless film classics into its fold in March, including one of Quentin Tarantino’s best movies and an underrated, often wrongly forgotten romance.
Here are TheWrap’s picks for this month’s best new-to-Peacock movies.

Though it’s been less than two weeks since Conan O’Brien made his Oscars hosting debut, the famously self-deprecatory comedian is already discussing how things could’ve gone differently. During a recent recording of his podcast “Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend” with Oscars head writer Mike Sweeney, the former late-night host went into detail about attempted jokes that were cut down by members of the Academy. For a promo that involved O’Brien “fighting about things couples fight about,” but with the gold Oscars statue, he was told directly that he couldn’t lie the statue on its side.
“One of the people from the Academy came forward and said, ‘Oscar can never be horizontal.’ And that blew my mind,” said O’Brien. “Like, wow, this is like the thigh bone of St. Peter. This is a religious icon.”
For the actual show, O’Brien wanted to take more inspiration...

Making big-budget blockbusters can be an isolating process, especially if you're a performer used to working with other actors and physical sets who is, all of a sudden, confined to a recording booth or something similar. This is what Peter Dinklage experienced when he worked on "Wicked," Jon M. Chu's massively successful (and Oscar-winning) adaptation of Stephen Schwartz and Winnie Holzman's long-running Broadway musical. In the film, Emmy-winner Dinklage plays Doctor Dillamond, a talking goat who teaches at Shiz University and earns the affection of the young green-skinned witch Elphaba Thropp (Cynthia Erivo), but according to an interview Dinklage had with Cinema Express in November 2024, he didn't totally love the experience, because he was not physically on set.
"It was a bit of a lonely process, recording in a sound booth apart from the rest of the cast, but it's such an honour to be part of something...

Game Changer North America Box Office (Closing Collection) ( Photo Credit – YouTube )
Game Changer, starring Ram Charan in the lead role, emerged as a huge disaster at the worldwide box office. It was released amid high expectations, but the content turned out to be underwhelming. This resulted in a sharp decline after a good start. Both in India and overseas, the film earned poor numbers. In several territories, it was a losing affair, and North America is one of those. Keep reading for a detailed closing report!
Over the years, Ram Charan has witnessed a huge growth in terms of popularity and box office pull. While the actor always had his strong fan base, his following peaked after Rrr. Other than the Rrr effect, Ram’s collaboration with Shankar was one factor that helped the magnum opus build hype around itself. Unfortunately, the content didn’t back up the hype.

Sony’s Spider-Man Universe (Ssu) went out with a whimper because its final film entry simply couldn’t hunt up enough business at the box office. However, there is a reason Aaron Taylor-Johnson’s take on the titular Spidey comic book character in Kraven the Hunter went belly up in theaters, and that’s because critics and theatergoers alike appropriately responded to the movie’s poor storytelling. Today, though, Kraven is at long last enjoying some success as the film has cracked Netflix’s Top 10 Movies in the United States chart at No. 1 as of Friday, Mar. 14.
Poor reviews from the critics led to the inferior Kraven the Hunter registering the second-worst Tomatometer rating (15%) of the Ssu on Rotten Tomatoes, which is a dubious score it still shares with the Jared Leto-led Morbius. However, Kraven and Morbius' 15% still isn’t as bad as Madame Web’s lowly 11%. Despite the low numbers,...

The 75th Ace Eddie Awards recognized achievements in film and television editing on Friday night at UCLA’s Royce Hall. The ceremony, originally scheduled for January 18, was postponed due to wildfires in the Los Angeles area. The event shifted from a traditional red-carpet affair to a more casual gathering, with a portion of ticket sales contributing to wildfire relief efforts.
Juliette Welfling won Best Edited Feature Film (Drama) for Emilia Pérez, a musical crime thriller by Jacques Audiard. The film’s approach to blending musical elements with its narrative stood out among competitors like Conclave and Dune: Part Two. Wicked, edited by Myron Kerstein, won in the comedy category, prevailing over Sean Baker’s Anora, which had won the Academy Award for Best Film Editing earlier this month.

“Emilia Pérez,” “Wicked” and “The Wild Robot” were the top film winners at the 75th Ace Eddie Awards, which took place on Friday evening at UCLA’s Royce Hall, nearly two weeks after the Oscars and nearly two months after the Eddies’ original date of Jan. 18. The ceremony held by the American Cinema Editors was postponed in January due to the wildfires that raged through the L.A. metro area earlier this year.
Wins by Juliette Welfling for “Emilia Pérez” and Myron Kerstein for “Wicked” stood in contrast to the outcome at the 97th Academy Awards on March 2, when Sean Baker won film editing for “Anora.” Last year, “Oppenheimer” and “The Holdovers” won at the Eddies, and “Oppenheimer” went on to win the Oscar. Jacques Audiard’s “Emilia Pérez,” the embattled musical crime thriller about gender confirmation, was the surprise Feature Dramatic Editing winner, Friday night at the 75th annual Ace Eddie Awards (held at UCLA’s Royce Hall).
Besting such contenders as “Conclave” and “Dune: Part Two,” “Emilia Pérez” editor Juliette Welfling cut against the start and stop rhythms of traditional musicals with sequences that flowed naturally from dialogue to musical moments in this operatic fever dream, starring Best Supporting Oscar winner Zoe Saldaña and controversial Best Actress nominee Karla Sofía Gascón.
In addition, Jon M. Chu’s maximalist “Wicked” musical beat out Sean Baker’s Oscar-winning “Anora” in the comedy category. Editor Myron Kerstein excelled at handling the tonal shifts and blending different genres to explore the volatile friendship between Elphaba/the Wicked Witch (Oscar-nominated Cynthia Erivo) and Galinda/Glinda the Good Witch (Oscar-nominated Ariana Grande).

Despite opening the show with three songs, Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande both went home without Oscars for their work in Wicked. Erivo had tough competition going up against Demi Moore's triumphant return in The Substance and the eventual winner, the incredible and transformative, Mikey Madison in Anora. Grande surprised audiences with how perfect she was as Galinda, but there was seemingly no stopping Zoe Saldaña winning every Best Supporting Actress Award for her work in Emelia Pérez. With the upcoming release of Wicked: For Good, there's some hope one or both women could not only be nominated again, but potentially even win. Lord of the Rings sweeping the Oscars for its third entry suggests the Academy likes to delay rewarding a movie until the franchise's final installment, but Oscar history has not been as kind to actors reprising their roles...

The Hollywood of 2025 is obsessed with the 60s in more ways than one. Can it get out of it?
“The end of history” was such a lovely idea, it’s no surprise it’s turned out to be bollocks. Equally inaccurate, it turns out, is the idea the 2020s would turn back the clock to what Agent Smith called “the peak of [our] civilisation”. Though the 30-year nostalgia pendulum duly gave us Stranger Things and legacy sequels to every film from the 1980s over the last decade, the idea that the coming years would reinvigorate our penchant for raves, wraparound shades and world peace has, so far, been for the birds. We’ve not entered our 90s era – we’ve leapfrogged it.
Welcome, then, to the new 60s. Everyone is wearing wide-hemmed trousers; Musk and Bezos are competing to launch themselves into space; and the Doomsday Clock says we’ve never been closer to Armageddon.

The Current Debate connects the dots around a topic of the critical conversation.Anora.Remember Cord Jefferson’s plea at last year’s Oscars? Picking up his Best Adapted Screenplay award for American Fiction (2023), the director chided the industry for being “risk-averse,” and suggested that, “instead of making one $200 million movie,” producers should spread those resources to make room for more diverse and bolder voices. “Try making twenty $10 million movies,” he said, “or fifty $4 million movies.” Jefferson was of course alluding to Oppenheimer (2023), Christopher Nolan’s thunderous portrait of “father of the atomic bomb” J. Robert Oppenheimer, a $100-million Best Picture winner that racked up seven statuettes and nearly a billion dollars at the box office. A year later, a cursory glance at the list of 2025 Oscar winners might make you think the industry did, in fact, heed the call. It’s not that there were no big-budget films among...

After seemingly having concluded its theatrical run with critical acclaim, box office success, and a couple of Oscars under its belt, the musical adaptation Wicked announced that it intends to defy gravity for a little while longer. The movie debuted in its final major territory, Japan, this past week. It has earned over $5 million in Japan so far, elevating both its box office haul, and its ranking on the all-time list of the highest-grossing films in history. Wicked is based on the popular Broadway musical of the same name, which itself is based on Gregory Maguire's novel, which was inspired by L. Frank Baum's "The Wizard of Oz" books.

With movie awards season over, and rumors that Adrian Brody’s Oscar acceptance speech is finally coming to an end, the year 2025 sees a surprising amount of faces coming straight back into the conversation. For one, Zoe Saldaña will be putting her Supporting Actress Oscar to good use on the publicity trail for one of the biggest tentpoles of the year: James Cameron’s Fire and Ash, the third in the Avatar series, in which she reprises her role as Na’vi princess Neytiri.
It doesn’t seem especially likely that lightning will strike twice for Saldaña, but the win will bring extra gravitas to the franchise, which secured four nominations (including Best Picture) last time. Fire and Ash hits cinemas in the middle of December, usually a risky strategy, awards-wise — think Wonka, Nosferatu and even A Complete Unknown — but Cameron has good form on this front, and, presumably for...

Sweeney also shared how another banned idea was to have the Oscar wearing an apron, as putting clothing on it is also forbidden.
"I don't fault them, it's just this is what they do. The Oscar,...

Looks like Conan O'Brien didn't sign an NDA.
The freshly minted Oscars host has revealed several secrets about the Academy's quirky rules for its 97-year-old, 13-inch, eight-pound golden mascot. "No clothing on Oscar. Oscar is always naked," O'Brien dished on his Conan Needs a Friend podcast during a conversation with the ceremony's head writer, Mike Sweeney.
Per the Oscar overlords, the statuette can only ever be shown standing upright. "One of the people from the Academy came forward and said, 'Oscar can never be horizontal,'" O'Brien recalled. "And that blew my mind. Wow, this is like the thigh bone of St. Peter. This is a religious icon."
O'Brien also revealed his original vision for his Oscar promotional spot. He sought to put an apron on the trophy, housewife-style, and have it serve O'Brien leftovers. That'd didn't fly. Instead, a 9-foot version of the statuette appeared in its normal, pristine...

Conan O’Brien is getting props for his Drake joke at the Oscars — in which he joked about the ongoing feud between the rapper and Kendrick Lamar — but admitted on Thursday that he didn’t write the joke himself.
The joke in question? “We’re halfway through the Oscars, which means it’s time for Kendrick Lamar to come out and call Drake a pedophile.” It got a rousing response from the Oscars crowd and served as a callback to Lamar dissing longtime rival Drake during his Super Bowl halftime performance of “Not Like Us.”
“That is the handiwork of Skyler Higley. I have to give it up — I’m not that well-versed in rap battles — but I got major props from this gentleman,” O’Brien shared on Thursday’s episode of his podcast “Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend.”
“This has happened to me a couple of times, but I walked...
