Watch The Orozco Brothers' Colombian SciFi Short Singular
Juan Felipe and Carlos Esteban Orozco are familiar names around these parts, the Colombian brother duo responsible for the dark thriller Saluda Al Diablo De Mi Parte a few years back. Blessed with a phenomenal visual style it's really just a question of when and where they break out internationally more than if.Since Saluda they've been developing a number of projects and just freshly out in the public eye today is Singular, a science fiction short intended to set the stage for a proposed feature. And while it's not hard to see that they're using non-native English speakers in English speaking roles it's also not at all hard to see that their visual sense remains fully intact. In an America where everyone has superpowers, Andy, the...

Five For The Future!
With this being my last shot at writing a Twitch-o-Meter in 2009 I've decided that rather than looking back - as I normally do with these things - I'm going to look forward. This column is dedicated to five young, up and coming film makers who I believe will make a big impact in 2010. Three of them will be rolling out with their first features, two with their second, none have been widely seen by audiences yet. Where possible I'll be including videos and links to official websites. And so, in alphabetical order, here they are:

Jalmari Helander - Rare Exports

We get things rolling in Finland, where first time feature director Jalmari Helander has just wrapped principal photography on his Rare Exports.  An expansion on a pair of earlier, hugely successful short films, Rare Exports posits a devious, underhanded, far-northern plot to conceal the truth about Santa Clause.  Yes, the...

Behind the Scenes Stills From Colombia’s SALUDA AL DIABLO DE MI PARTE
We first wrote about upcoming Colombian crime-noir Saluda Al Diablo De Mi Parte all the way back in April when the film makers shot a test teaser for their film. That teaser was a stellar bit of work and the more we dug into the project the more interesting it began to look. Colombia doesn’t have that much of a film industry and even less of a genre film industry but this film is the second effort from writer Carlos Esteban and director Juan Felipe Orozco, the same pair that were behind the festival hit Al Final Del Espectro - currently being remade with Nicole Kidman in the lead - and they obviously know what they’re up to.

This latest effort is deep into production and Esteban has just passed along five behind the scenes stills from the film, each of which looks every bit as noir as...
