Magazine Dreams was as sure a thing as movies come in Hollywood. Headlined by a rising star. Rave reviews. A Sundance bidding war. A planned Oscar run. But then its lead actor, Jonathan Majors, was arrested for assault and harassment of his former girlfriend. He became toxic, and the fate of Magazine Dreams became a nightmare.
Now, after sitting on the shelf for two years, Magazine Dreams is poised to open in theaters on Friday, amid a fresh round of headlines about Majors's alleged abuse. Will moviegoers still be able to separate the art from the artist, especially in a film about a troubled man with abusive tendencies?
For his part, the filmmaker hopes art wins and that there is an audience for the film.

After his debut in season 1 of Loki as the Kang variant He Who Remains and as Kang the Conqueror in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, Jonathan Majors was charged with domestic violence and assault, leading to the end of his time in the MCU. After the defeat of Thanos in Avengers: Endgame, the MCU turned to the next big bad, hiring Majors to play the time-traveling, multiversal villain Kang the Conqueror (and all his variants). However, serious charges leveled changed a lot of those plans.
2023 was off to a big start for Majors with strong reviews for Creed III and his theatrical MCU debut in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. However, in March 2023, Jonathan Majors was arrested for misdemeanor charges of assault, strangulation, and harassment after an altercation with his girlfriend. Jonathan Majors is still open to reprising his slated role of Kang the Conqueror for the MCU — that is, if Marvel would have him back.
Majors was fired from Marvel parent company Walt Disney Co. after being found guilty of assault and harassment in December 2023. The actor had appeared as Kang in “Loki” Season 2 and “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.” The character was set to lead two MCU installments, “Avengers: The Kang Dynasty” and “Avengers: Secret Wars,” to bring in the new Phase of the franchise.
After his firing, rumors circulated that Majors was going to be recast. Instead, it was announced that Robert Downey Jr. would instead be playing the new MCU baddie Doctor Doom, with the upcoming “Avengers” film retitled “Avengers: Doomsday.” Academy Award winner Downey previously played Iron Man for more than a decade in the MCU.
However, Downey being back doesn’t mean that Majors is giving up hope.

Willem Dafoe is pointing to the black-and-white differences between him and “The Lighthouse” co-star Robert Pattinson.
In the introduction to A24’s Screenplay Book for Robert Eggers’ 2019 two-hander “The Lighthouse,” Dafoe wrote that while he “got along well” with Pattinson, they are distinctly “different” actors.
“He was less enthusiastic about rehearsing and felt it inhibited spontaneity,” Dafoe wrote. “That said, our distinctly different approaches beautifully mirrored the different psychologies of our characters, which I think [director] Robert [Eggers] instinctively knew and used to help us find our roles and play the scenes.”
“The Lighthouse” starred Dafoe and Pattinson as two lighthouse keepers on a remote island. The duo descend into surreal madness by the sea over the course of the black-and-white film. Pattinson previously told Esquire that he found the rehearsal process to be “very, very frustrating” with script read-throughs and became “quite angry” with writer-director Eggers in the pre-production process.

In his first interview since a a jury found the actor guilty of assault and harassment, actor Jonathan Majors again denied striking ex-girlfriend Grace Jabbari.

Jonathan Majors has been dropped by Marvel and his character, Kang the Conqueror, will either be recast or written out of the franchise, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The decision follows Majors’ conviction of reckless assault in the third degree and harassment on Monday.
Majors portrayed Kang in the Marvel Cinematic Universe franchise, a character established as the primary antagonist for the current Multiverse Saga, much like Thanos was the keystone villain of the previous Infinity Saga. Majors debuted as a “variant” of Kang called He Who Remains in Season 1 of the Disney+ series Loki, returning in this year’s Season 2 as another variant named Victor Timely. The domestic violence trial of Jonathan Majors has been delayed to September. The 33-year-old actor returned to court on Thursday for what was supposed to be the start of the trial, but the prosecution said it was not ready because it’s still obtaining discovery.
Majors, wearing a grey suit, entered the courtroom holding hands with girlfriend Meagan Good. He carried a bible and notebook as he approached the bench at 9:42 a.m. with his criminal defense lawyer Priya Chaudhry. She alleged the delay is because the prosecutors weren’t “timely” in turning over evidence. A new trial date has been set for Sept. 6.

Marvel Cinematic Universe star Jonathan Majors faces a litany of fresh abuse allegations, including some pertaining to his on-set behavior, with his representatives pinning that behavior on his approach to method acting.
Rolling Stone published a detailed piece on Majors' alleged pattern of abuse dating back to his Yale University dates, citing various incidents with former partners and his aggressive nature on movie sets. Regarding the latter, Majors' attorney Justin A. Pusch pushed back against claims the acclaimed actor was abusive or intimidating in any way to his co-workers on set, pointing to his penchant for "immersive" method acting as a defense. “The allegations that Mr. Majors got physical with or physically intimidated anyone on any movie set are downright false,” Pusch said. “Everyone who has worked with Mr. Majors knows that he employs an immersive Method acting style, and while that can be misconstrued as rudeness at times, those who know Mr.

The statement says, "Today a judge granted a Full Temporary Order of Protection for the victim, per the People's request and with the consent of defense counsel." This Order of Protection means that both parties are not allowed to make any contact with each other, even through a third party, and the...

It’s been a tough couple of weeks for fame, whether you’re Donald Trump, Jonathan Majors, or Gwyneth Paltrow.
Anyone living in the spotlight faces the potential for a public reckoning and with that, collateral damage. After Majors was arrested and charged with assault and harassment, the news cycle cast immediate uncertainty on his future. Now, as various Majors projects let him go, the fallout exposes a film-business fallacy. When you build projects around movie stars, you create a liability.
Majors’ attorney claims evidence of his innocence, but his agency and publicity team dropped the actor this month. So did a number of upcoming projects, including Protagonist Pictures’ adaptation of the Walter Mosley novel “The Man in My Basement,” a series of ads for the Texas Rangers baseball team, and an unannounced Otis Redding biopic from Fifth Season.

Jonathan Majors was on a stratospheric trajectory before being charged with assault and harassment in March of this year.
The 33-year-old actor had, weeks earlier, co-presented an award at the 95th Oscars with his Creed III co-star Michael B Jordan.
He was receiving rave reviews for his turn as Marvel’s major new villain Kang following his debut in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.
Then, on 25 March, New York City police responded to an emergency call over a “domestic dispute” involving Majors and a 30-year-old woman.
The actor was taken into custody and later charged with several counts of assault in the third degree, three counts of attempted assault in the third degree, one count of aggravated harassment in the second degree, and one count of harassment in the second degree.
Majors’ attorney has repeatedly denied any wrongdoing by the actor and maintained that the charges against him are false.

Jonathan Majors' issues are worsening as more alleged abuse victims are coming forward. In the middle of the actor's meteoric rise following roles in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and Creed 3, Majors was arrested in New York for the alleged assault of a woman. Though Majors' lawyers have maintained his innocence ahead of his upcoming court appearance for domestic violence charges, several parties and projects have already decided to cut ties with the embattled actor.
