Penélope Cruz and Milena Smit in Madres paralelas (2021)

Trivia

Madres paralelas

Edit
There was a poster for PARALLEL MOTHERS (Madres paralelas) over a decade ago in a scene of Almodóvar's Étreintes brisées (2009) (Broken Embraces). He was already working on the script and had made a poster.
Instagram issued an official apology for removing a poster of this movie that showed a female nipple. The post was later allowed on Instagram because it was deemed to have clear artistic context.
The photo in the foreground that Penélope Cruz mentioned showing her mother and herself as a baby in Ibiza was taken by the reputable Spanish photographer Oriol Maspons. This picture was shot in Dalt Vila, Ibiza in the summer of 1976. Oriol Maspons' collection is available in the the prestigious photography gallery Blanca Berlin in Madrid and in the Photography Social Vision Foundation in Barcelona.
The director had first discussed the project all the way back in 2011, describing it as "the Don Quixote of motherhood."
9th collaboration between Pedro Almodóvar and Rossy de Palma. 8th collaboration between Almodóvar and Penélope Cruz.
