Bob Odenkirk, known for his role as Saul Goodman in Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul, is set to star in a new action movie called Normal. Odenkirk has had limited experience in the action genre but is poised to pursue more action roles, including the upcoming Nobody 2, which was delayed but is still in development. The potential success of Normal could lead to a career shift for Odenkirk, similar to Liam Neeson's transition into action movies.

Bob Odenkirk has signed on to star in Normal. Odenkirk is probably best known for playing the role of the untrustworthy lawyer Saul Goodman in Breaking Bad and its spinoff prequel Better Call Saul, which recently concluded its run in 2022. However, he may have already found another iconic role with the 2021 action movie Nobody, in which he played an unassuming family man who fights tooth and nail to save his wife and son.

The Batman trailer arrived this weekend, and the Dark Knight will be pitted against the mysterious villain, The Riddler, with the puzzle-loving supervillain looking to rigorously test the Dark Knight's famous detective skills. The recently released trailer is full of tantalising teases and riddles, with fans now testing their own detective skills in order to solve one in particular. Having just discovered one of the Riddler's high-profile murder victims, Batman is presented with a card that reads, "what does a liar do when he's dead?" while a coded message appears on the opposite side of the card. Well, according to one fan, that code provides the answer to the Riddler's ghoulish question.

Matt Reeves sees Gotham City as an experiment. Which is to say in his version of the Dark Knight mythos, Bruce Wayne is just starting out in his war on crime and the Batman isn’t even sure what he can accomplish yet. However, this sense of experimentation also applies to Reeves’ take on the characters, which as he stressed throughout The Batman DC FanDome event is not an origin story: it will look familiar, and yet be something decidedly more intimate and grittier. Gotham took everyone by surprise as a series about Batman that didn't exactly have Batman in it. Instead, it had Jim Gordon (Ben McKenzie), trying to solve the murder of the Waynes in the weeks after the murder happened. The series took the opposite view of some theories and had the villains of Batman's Rogues Gallery already in Gotham even before he showed up.

Next month, the British Film Institute celebrates the 15th anniversary of the iconic cult classic Donnie Darko with a theatrical re-release showcasing the film's new 4K restoration. Today we have a new trailer for the re-release, which is only happening in the U.K., with screenings on December 19, 20, 22 and 23. The film will also include an introduction from writer-director Richard Kelly.

BFI debuted this new trailer yesterday, which allows fans to revisit this cult classic, even if you can't make it to the U.K. for this re-release. It's unclear if there are plans for a 4K re-release in the U.S., either in theater or on home video. Here's the official description of this re-release from the BFI website.

We've already seen a couple of great teaser trailers for The Lego Batman Movie, and now we're finally getting our first look (via USA Today) at the supporting characters that will surround Will Arnett's blocky version of The Dark Knight. He's reprising his role from 2014's The Lego Movie, and in his solo adventure that's directed by Chris McKay, he's joined by Rosario Dawson as Batgirl, Ralph Fiennes as Alfred Pennyworth, Michael Cera as Robin, Zach Galifianakis as The Joker, and Mariah Carey as Mayor Marion Grange.

While another trailer will debut this week during Comic-Con, the outlet has revealed a bit about the plot of the film: Batman doesn't think the Joker is a worthy opponent, and this causes the Joker to lash out:

Harder Candy: Pike Headlines Predictably Exploitative Rape Thriller

It seems Rosamund Pike is now the girl most likely to…. exact ruthless retribution on her instigators, if judging from the latest indie thriller Return to Sender, unfortunately arriving on the heels of her Oscar nominated success in last year’s comparably themed David Fincher film, Gone Girl. But the pedigree of auteur assistance is not on hand with Fouad Mikati’s sophomore effort, his first film since 2010’s Operation: Endgame. Somehow, he amassed a rather respectable cast for this grindhouse knockoff that could have easily premiered on Lifetime if Pike hadn’t suddenly become such a hot commodity. To be fair, we’ll have to wait another year or so to appreciate the actress in some higher quality offerings, and by then this will most likely be forgotten about.

In my head I’m calling this film What Is This I Can’t Even: The Movie. It works at least as well as the blandly generic and not even really apropos Return to Sender, which describes a tiny section of the second act that then resolves itself and has no further bearing on the story. In fact, the bearing it does have on the story hardly makes any sense at all, not on the level of plot, character, or theme. Not that the plot, characters, or putative themes make any sense on a whole-movie level,...

Last fall, Rosamund Pike gave cinema the classic kind of crazy we haven't seen in some time with her turn as Amazing Amy in David Fincher's "Gone Girl." Ruthless, cold, and calculating, she knew how to rig any situation to her benefit, leaving a string of men ruined in her wake. And now, the actress is once again going down the path of vengeance in "Return To Sender," and the first trailer is here. Granted, this movie doesn't look particularly good. Directed by Fouad Mikati ("Operation: Endgame"), and co-starring Shiloh Fernandez, Rumer Willis, and Nick Nolte, the story follows a woman who is viciously assaulted, and then goes on a mission to reclaim her life. It looks like pure B-movie material, but without the precision of Fincher, or the subtext in his movie. But still, Pike looks to be acting circles around everyone else, so maybe it'll be worth tuning in for that.

Kill or be killed. How would you react? James Gunn (Guardians of the Galaxy, Slither) peels back the civilized veneer of one company's workforce to see what lies beneath in The Belco Experiment, a screenplay he wrote years ago in which co-workers are forced to slay one another or bite the bullet themselves. Gunn's carnage on the printed page will now come to life with a familiar face behind the camera, as Gunn has announced that The Belco Experiment is moving forward at MGM with Greg McLean (Wolf Creek, Wolf Creek 2) in the director's chair.

The UK’s Arrow Films have picked up Voltage Pictures’ upcoming thriller Return to Sender, starring Rosamund Pike, Shiloh Fernandez and Nick Nolte.

It builds on Arrow’s relationship with Voltage, having previously picked up Nailed/Politics of Love and Good Kill for UK distribution.

The deal with negotiated by Arrow acquisitions director Tom Stewart and Voltage’s Elisabeth Costa de Beauregard.

Pike, who most recently starred in David Fincher mystery Gone Girl, stars as a small town nurse who gets attacked during a home invasion by a mysterious criminal (Fernandez).

Following his arrest, she starts to regularly visit him in jail and befriends him, against her father’s (Nolte) advice. After his release, she decides to turn the tables on him and puts a diabolical plan in motion to get revenge on her assailant.

The story centers on a small town nurse (Rosamund Pike) who goes on a blind date with a mysterious man (Shiloh Fernandez), and suffers a life-altering event shortly thereafter. Nick Nolte is playing the nurse's father.

Thoughts by Tsr: I keep waiting for this film to stumble and convince me it won’t be any good. That’s not the attitude I want to have, but dusting off these characters after so many years just doesn’t seem like it should work. And yet, I’ve enjoyed just about everything I’ve seen from American Reunion.

The word choice there is the key. I said I’ve enjoyed everything, which is true. What I didn’t say is that I’ve found everything hilarious. Thoughts by Tsr: Family gatherings are often love/hate affairs, and that is one thing this trailer for Another Happy Day captures nicely. There is a messiness, a certain level of ‘who knows what’s going to happen next?’ to this trailer that I really appreciate. Between the music playing under the action, and the various conflicts at play, this is a surprisingly effective trailer for a film I had little interest in until now.

Another thing the film really has working in its favor is an excellent cast. Ellen Barkin is certainly a stand out, but Ezra Miller looks equally good as Barkin’s son who has been in rehab multiple times. I’m beyond excited to see what he does...

Writer/director Sam Levinson has opened up about his love for girlfriend Ellen Barkin, insisting the straight-talking veteran actress is "not that tough" in real life.

The couple's romance hit the headlines earlier this year, when it emerged the Ocean's Thirteen star, 57, was dating the 26-year-old son of famed moviemaker Barry Levinson, the director who launched her film career in 1980s film Diner.

The pair is said to have met while Sam was writing Barkin's 2010 film Operation: Endgame and the actress was subsequently cast as the lead of Sam's latest movie, Another Happy Day.

Now the young Levinson has confirmed they are dating and living together in New York, and he's adamant Barkin is nothing like the hard characters she plays onscreen.

He tells the New York Daily News, "We've been together for like, three years, under the radar. You know, when you get to know her, she's not that tough. She's beautiful and intelligent and we live creatively together."

Barkin was previously married to Irish actor Gabriel Byrne, with whom she has two kids, and her second union to businessman Ronald Perelman ended in a messy divorce in 2006.

Veteran actress Ellen Barkin is dating the 26-year-old son of famed moviemaker Barry Levinson, the director who launched her film career.

The 57 year old, who found fame in Levinson's 1980s film Diner, is romantically involved with the moviemaker's writer/director son Sam and they have reportedly been living together in New York for the last two years.

They are said to have met while Sam was writing Barkin's 2010 film Operation: Endgame and the Ocean's Thirteen star leads the cast of Sam's latest movie, Another Happy Day. They were pictured hugging and kissing when the film was premiered at this year's Sundance Film Festival in Utah.

A source tells New York Post gossip column Page Six, "They go out, they're photographed together, they don't keep it secret."

Barkin is mother to two children from her first marriage to actor Gabriel Byrne. After their split, she wed businessman Ronald Perelman, but that union also ended in divorce in 2006.

Are you sick of Zach Galifianakis yet? Based on the mixed reviews of Due Date, I'd say that the backlash is already well underway, but that hasn't stopped him from trying to squeeze as much as he can out of the window of opportunity that The Hangover has provided him with. The man has appeared in at least five movies this year, and now there is yet another one due to hit store shelves before the end of the year. Yes, that's right, the movie is called Frenemy and it is another direct-to-dvd affair, not unlike Operation: Endgame which Anchor Bay also released this past summer. It seems like the kind of low budget stuff you should be avoiding once you're a big star, but what do I know? The movie is directed by Gregory Dark, who also did the Kane horror flick See No Evil, which is probably not a good sign.

Everyone knows that Hollywood Word Jumble is a favorite game of ours. Every now and then, we seem to see ideas thrown into a blender, then the blender is thrown into a bigger blender, then shot into space. What falls to Earth is then used for movie ideas.

Apparently, writer/director Chris Rossi applied a similar idea for the casting of Lives Of Saints, a film about "intertwining story lines about a group of Angelinos seeking redemption for past mistakes."

Anyway, shooting for Rossi's film starts next month. The cast couldn't be any more goddamn random: John Lithgow, Kat Dennings, Joe Anderson, Meg Ryan, Anthony Anderson, Esai Morales and Curtis "50 Fuckin' Cent" Jackson are all featured. That's a bizarre friggin' cast, but there's some solid talent in there. Kat Dennings is criminally underused, and not just because I have an embarrassing crush on her.

Seriously, ladies. Have movies taught you nothing? Pretty girls, particularly skinny white ones, should basically never leave the house, because whenever they do, hillbillies or mutants or killer rape-o's or something is going to hunt you down and seriously mess up your shit.

All of which brings us to And Soon The Darkness, the new movie (it's actually a remake of a 1970 British thriller of the same name) starring two very pretty girls, Odette Yustman and Amber Heard, who dress sexily and travel to far-off lands, which by Hollywood reasoning means they might as well just shoot themselves. Otherwise, Yustman will go missing (she is after all, the sluttier of the two), and Heard will have to run around screeching and trusting the wrong people and I'm fairly certain she's going to stumble and fall down at a very inopportune moment.

I guess what I'm saying is, this looks like derivative crap.
