Harold & Kumar isn’t just a buddy-comedy—it’s a legendary stoner movie. When the original film dropped in 2004, it took a simple premise and turned it into a cult classic: two friends, high out of their minds, chasing the holy grail of munchies—a White Castle slider. Set against the backdrop of early-2000s suburbia (a world before DoorDash or Uber Eats), the film leaned into absurdity, social satire, and genuine heart.
What started as a wild trip through New Jersey became a trilogy, with Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantánamo Bay (2008) and A Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas (2011) adding even more chaos to their journey.
Now, after more than a decade of silence, the franchise is gearing up for a return—and the timing couldn’t be better. With stoner comedies on life support in Hollywood, the original creators (who also happen to be the team...

A cult-favorite stoner comedy duo is gearing up for a long-awaited return. The Harold & Kumar franchise began as a modest hit in 2004 before exploding on DVD, leading to two sequels that carried on the misadventures of the hilarious pair, made up of John Cho and Kal Penn. The last film was released in 2011, but it appears that the marijuana-induced antics of the titular duo will continue as another film is finally in the works.
Per Deadline, a new Harold & Kumar film is in the works from Cobra Kai creators Jon Hurwitz, Hayden Schlossberg and Josh Heald. The trio aren't strangers to the franchise, with many no doubt surprised to learn that they began their movie careers with the 2004 film. After serving up writing duties on the pair's journey to White Castle, they would make their directorial debut with 2008's Harold and Kumar Escape from Guantánamo Bay.

A new Harold & Kumar movie is in the works, bringing back the iconic stoner duo for another wild ride. The project is being written by Jon Hurwitz, Hayden Schlossberg, and Josh Heald, the creative team behind Netflix’s Cobra Kai. Hurwitz and Schlossberg, who wrote the original 2004 film Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle, will also direct this sequel, produced by Lionsgate’s Mandate Pictures.
John Cho and Kal Penn are expected to return as Harold and Kumar, though their contracts are still pending. It’s unclear if Neil Patrick Harris, who stole scenes as himself in the earlier films, will make an appearance.
The movie is in early stages but promises to deliver the same R-rated, chaotic humor that made the franchise a cult hit. “We’re fired up to bring Harold and Kumar back in a return to the unapologetically R-rated, smoke-filled chaos that started it all,...

Harold & Kumar 4 is in development, with the franchise's creators set to return to write and direct the movie. One of the best ways to scare viewers with horror films is to make them feel realistic. Nothing is scarier than something that could happen in reality. For example, the Final Destination film series shows various ways people can die during everyday activities. Clowns, sharks, anacondas, and more are also a bit nightmarish — thanks to the horror genre — and it seems like Hollywood is not running out of ideas anytime soon. Lionsgate and Pitch Perfect producer Paul Brooks are working on a rat horror flick, and what better place to have the movie set in than the Big Apple? New York City is known for many things, having a lot of rats being one of them. So, the killer rat infestation film will create a new meaning for "the city that never sleeps."

During the pandemic, director Todd Strauss-Schulson made a 4 minute short film called Rat, which was about “a lonely rat in New York City that finds love and dances the night away.” Now, Variety reports that Strauss-Schulson is set to direct the survival horror feature film Rats!, but it has no connection to his short film other than the fact that it’s set in New York City and will have rats in it.
Strauss-Schulson wrote the Rats! screenplay with Paul Sado, whose previous credits include the Adam Sandler movies Leo and The Cobbler. The story Strauss-Schulson and Sado crafted for this one puts New York City in a race against time to stop a killer rat infestation unlike anything the world has ever seen. The concept and setting brings to mind the 2002 movie The Rats (which was based on a James Herbert novel that was actually set in London), but...

New York City is set to battle a plague of rats in an upcoming survival horror.

’Twas the weekend before Christmas… With the holiday season upon us, many of us are starting to revisit some of our of Christmas favourites. I actually went to see a 4K re-release of the original Black Christmas last night here in Montreal. There’s something comforting upon returning to our old favourites every year, whether they be traditional Christmas classics, or perhaps something a little more modern, like Die Hard, which, despite many claiming otherwise, has totally established itself as a Christmas classic over the years.
Whatever the case, there are certainly Loads of Christmas movies, with everything from old-time classics like It’s A Wonderful Life or some of the many versions of A Christmas Carol (the Alistair Sim version is the best Imo), or something like Love Actually, which is virtually inescapable at this time of the year.

Because sometimes, Christmas movies are better with a little adult fun.
Everyone loves a wholesome Christmas movie… but if you’re looking for something that goes a little harder (like the rum in your eggnog), there are plenty of adult comedy Christmas movies to check out. I’m talking f-bomb dropping, alcohol drinking, and club-dancing adult fun. So, what’s the best streamer for that kind of holiday? The answer is two-fold. The best free streamer for adult comedy holiday movies is definitely Tubi, while my paid streamer pick is Paramount+, both with different offerings. Here’s what you need to know to have an adult laugh this holiday season.
Everything you need to know about the best streamers for adult comedy Christmas movies:
What popular adult comedy Christmas movies can you watch on Tubi?

Making a hit comedy movie — let alone a hit comedy franchise — can be a bit of a daunting prospect. It's not too hard to make a film full of cheap laughs that land immediately but don't linger, as evident by the glut of pleasant but forgettable comedy films that exist out there. It's a little harder to make something ambitious and ahead of its time though, especially when the sting of initial failure hurts enough to make the decades-later reappraisal a long wait. The most key form of comedy movie alchemy is making a film which is extremely of its time yet continues to not just retain but gain devoted fans for years afterward, enough so that the gags that are dated don't grate too much, allowing for the more timeless material to shine through.

After 20 years, a new generation is discovering the wacky trip that is Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle… including star John Cho‘s kids.
The actor said that his teenage son had a “pretty good takeaway” after seeing the stoner comedy for the first time as he and co-star Kal Penn recently celebrated the milestone 20th anniversary of the first entry in their trilogy.

Cho’s interview comes after Penn and producer Nathan Kahane recounted how Reynolds’ cameo as a nurse “got the movie greenlit,” following Penn’s appearance in National Lampoon’s Van Wilder (2002).

‘Harold & Kumar’ Producer Says Ryan Reynolds “Got The Movie Greenlit” Because Of Kal Penn Friendship
As Deadpool & Wolverine enjoys continued success at the box office, another movie franchise has Ryan Reynolds to thank on its 20th anniversary.
Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle star Kal Penn and producer Nathan Kahane revealed the Golden Globe nominee was instrumental in getting the 2004 stoner comedy made as they recently marked the milestone birthday.
Penn noted to Rolling Stone in an oral history of the movie that Reynolds’ support began when they starred together in National Lampoon’s Van Wilder (2002).
“Ryan was incredibly supportive during the audition process for Van Wilder. In the final callback, it was between me and a white dude in brownface for the part of an Indian exchange student. He said to me, ‘How do you feel about improv?’ So we improvised the scene, and he was obviously rooting for me to get the job. The entire production was awesome. He told me once in passing,...

John Cho and Kal Penn are reflecting on how the marketing campaign for “Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle” back in 2004 “refused” to take race out of it.
The duo star as the titular best friends who set out to fulfill a craving for White Castle burgers while stoned. The 2004 comedy led to two sequels.
“I remember the trailers were all about race, and they should have been about friendship,” Penn told Rolling Stone during a 20th anniversary oral history piece. “The first cut of it mentioned that this movie starred ‘the Asian guy from “American Pie” and that Indian guy from “Van Wilder.”‘ I said, ‘I would love for you to not refer to us with racial signifiers because the movie speaks for itself.'”
Penn continued, “They refused, and instead added the line, ‘From the white guy who directed “Dude, Where’s My Car?”‘ I mean, if you...

It’s been 20 years since the beloved stoner comedy Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle first hit theaters, which is why the titular burger chain offered a Harold & Kumar-themed meal earlier this year, consisting of a box full of 20 burgers, which had to be ordered between 7 p.m. and 3 a.m. Thankfully, White Castle stopped short of asking customers to provide urine samples proving that they were, in fact, high as shit.
To celebrate the anniversary, the creatives behind the film, including stars John Cho and Kal Penn, chatted with Rolling Stone, describing the ins and outs of the film’s production. Penn also revealed that, despite the fact that the movie initially flopped in theaters, its eventual cult following included several high-ranking politicians — who still never bothered to legalize weed.

The 2019 rom-com Isn't It Romantic has a horror sequel in developemnt. The sequel, Isn't It Scary, would likely follow a character being trapped in a horror movie. The idea behind Isn't It Scary has already been used in the 2015 movie The Final Girls.
Isn't It Romantic is getting a horror-themed sequel. The 2019 movie starred Rebel Wilson as Natalie, an architect living in New York who finds herself trapped in a rom-com and forced to live out the tropes of the genre in her life. The star-studded cast of the movie also included Liam Hemsworth, Adam DeVine, Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Betty Gilpin, and Bowen Yang. Isn't It Romantic reviews were mixed, with a 69% Rotten Tomatoes critic score being undercut by an audience score of 51% and a lukewarm box office total of $48.8 million against its $31 million budget.

Neil Patrick Harris initially gained recognition for starring in Doogie Howser, M.D., a role that defined much of his early career. It wasn’t until the 2004 buddy comedy film Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle that he managed to break free from the character. The film features the actor portraying a fictionalized version of himself.

Mark Gustafson, a stalwart feature of the animation landscape, and an Oscar winner for last year's Pinocchio, which he co-directed with Guillermo del Toro, has died. He was 64.
Born in 1959 in Portland, Oregan, Gustafson began his animation career in the 1980s and dabbled in several kinds of animation. His claymation work can be seen in the 1987 TV special Claymation Christmas Celebration, The PJs series starring Eddie Murphy and the TV special Meet The Raisins, starring the iconic California Raisins and a host of TV adverts.
He was also the animation director for Wes Anderson’s 2009 Oscar-nominated film Fantastic Mr. Fox and worked on the claymation segment of A Very Harold And Kumar Christmas.
But his crowning achievement was surely Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio, on which he worked for years alongside the director. Now del Toro has taken to twitter to craft a touching tribute to his friend and fellow filmmaker.

With Christmas just one week (and one day) away, we wanted to ask you, the people, what your favorite Christmas Movie is? It doesn’t have to be the movie you think is the best, just the one that you eagerly anticipate watching every year. Do you look forward to seeing Jack Skellington discover the true meaning of Christmas in the Christmas Movie Classic The Nightmare Before Christmas or watching Kevin McCallister take down the Wet/ Sticky Bandits in Home Alone 1&2 or perhaps seeing Clark W. Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle star John Cho has declared that he would love to return for a fourth outing in the stoner buddy comedy franchise, and thinks a comeback for the titular duo “would be fun.” Speaking with Comicbook.com, Cho does admit that, much like Harold and Kumar themselves, they are struggling to get their act together. John Wick: Chapter 4 star Natalia Tena has pitched an unusual new spinoff for the action franchise. The franchise, which follows the titular action hero played by Keanu Reeves who is dragged back into the complicated and baroque underground world of assassins now includes four films that have grossed a collected total of over $1 billion. Tena debuted the character of Wick's adoptive sister and Ruska Roma crime syndicate member Katia in Chapter 4.
During a recent conversation with ComicBook, Tena pitched an unusual spinoff that could reunite certain members of the John Wick cast. It’s Easter weekend, so naturally “Saturday Night Live” did an Easter-themed cold open. But the news has been crazy this week, and so “SNL” found a way to combine Easter with Donald Trump.
In this case, the show basically barely parodied the disgraced ex-president with a cold open sketch that had James Austin Johnson’s Donald Trump impression interrupt a recreation of the Last Supper to compare himself to Jesus Christ.
Or rather, he compared himself to “Jesus of Azkaban,” which of course kinda sounds like something the real Donald Trump would say.

Friday After Next picks off where the last one left off. Following a similar structure to the previous two films, this time, Craig and Day-Day get themselves caught up chasing a thief on Christmas. The film grossed 33.5 million (per Box Office Mojo) and was a breakout role for Terry Crews.

Exclusive: Todd Strauss-Schulson and Adam Devine are reuniting for a third time as the former has signed on to direct and exec produce the pilot episode of Peacock’s Pitch Perfect (w/t) spinoff series
Strauss-Schulson has previously worked with the actor on 2015 comedy slasher film The Final Girls and 2019 rom-com Isn’t Is Romantic.
He will direct the first two episodes of the series and exec produce the pilot episode.
Richie Keen, who directed Peacock’s Bust Down and NBC’s Kenan, is the producing director and an exec producer across the season.
The Pitch Perfect series, which has received a straight-to-series order at the NBCU streamer, follows Devine’s vocal villain Bumper Allen, several years after viewers saw him in the films. Invited by his old friend Pieter Krämer, played by Flula Borg, Bumper moves to Germany to revive his music career when one of his songs becomes big in Berlin.

HBO Max is throwing its hat into one of the longest-running debates in Hollywood: Is “Die Hard” a Christmas movie? — by trying to delicately find a middle ground.
The streaming service is rolling out a “Holiday Wonderland” page that lists all of its Christmas-themed and Christmas-adjacent movies and TV shows. Guess where “Die Hard” (and its sequel) fell.
As you can see below, HBO Max puts “Die Hard,” “Die Hard 2” and “Lethal Weapon” in a list that includes “Shazam” and “A Very Harold & Kumar Christmas” as films that “have just the right amount of spirit.” We’re not sure what precludes “Harold & Kumar” from being a de facto Christmas movie, but this list features movies that take place around Christmastime, even if they don’t fully lean into the holiday festivities.
The argument over whether “Die Hard” should be considered a Christmas movie stems from the fact...

Kal Penn, one half of the Harold & Kumar comedy franchise (John Cho being the other half), wants to make a fourth installment. The original, Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle, was released in 2004 and became a cult classic. This was the height of the DVD era, so it makes sense why it did so well. Just imagine all of the dorm rooms that had a copy of this movie.
That success spawned the 2008 sequel Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay, which, you guessed it, revolves around the pair escaping from prison. A third movie, A Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas then came three years later at the height of the 3D craze. These films certainly know how to capitalize on trends, eh?
Now, nearly a decade has past and Penn thinks it’s time for another hit off of that bong. While speaking with Variety, he said...

If Kal Penn gets his way, a fourth “Harold & Kumar” movie will be streaming on a service near you.
“I feel like it’s gotta be a streamer because people just love watching [these movies] in the comfort of their own home on a Friday night at 2 a.m., which is more streaming ‘binge-able’ than it is going to the theater,” Penn, 42, told Variety.
Penn and co-star John Cho cemented their legacies in the stoner comedy world with 2004’s “Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle,” as two buddies whose pot-fueled munchies trip turns into a zany misadventure that includes Neil Patrick Harris and riding a cheetah.
The comedy became a hit and spawned two follow-ups, 2008’s “Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay” and 2011’s “A Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas.”
And sounds like Cho would be on board, too.
