Great, low budget, indie comedy - 9/19/8

This is director Scott Simpson's debut film. Aside from being the writer and director, Simpson also stars in the film as a roommate of a socially inept twenty-something who hasn't been on a date in months. The plot is fairly simple -- two roommates both start dating the same girl, competing for her attention, and monopolizing the time of their two best friends who give them completely different advice on how the dates should go. Shot on a budget of under $10K, the movie is very well put together -- the writing and acting are nearly perfect and the jokes are very well timed and funny. Although it is slightly derivative of current rom com fare, Simpson's dialogue is all his own and he has a very unique sense of humor he brings to the table. Definitely worth the rent and an hour and a half of your time, Bachelors is the Blair Witch of romantic comedies and if you approach it with that attitude going in, you will enjoy it all the more. Although the film is unrated, the dialogue is very raunchy (and funny) and there are tons of sexual references and "male" humor. A great film for budding indie filmmakers to watch -- Simpson shows he can make the best with the low budget he was given. Rarely do first time films by first time directors get picked up for distribution, but Simpson's talent definitely shows through and the film was picked up by Echelon Ent. for North American distrib on DVD. In summary, a great little indie pic that is not afraid to go for the jugular with its vulgarity. More surprising though are the great performances by all the actors, as well as some of the social messages containing therein. Kudos to this first time director for a hilarious and entertaining first entry.

Very good actually

I saw this on Netflix in the new release section and was intrigued by the title. So I threw it in my queue, checked it out, and I was very surprised! This was obviously a very low budget movie, I mean very low, but it relies on it wit, humor and dialogue to push it. Sure there are technical flaws, as there is with any low budget indie, but it didn't bother me one bit. I took it for what it was, and laughed my head off. It very much reminded me of "Clerks," but honestly, I laughed more with this one. So if you're looking for a very funny, short 70 minute comedy, I think you should check this out. I give it a generous 9/10 for it's indie credibility and humor, take it for what it is.

Where the hell did this come from?

Where the hell did this movie come from? I mean, it seems like nobody has every heard of it. I found it by accident on netflix. I was just in the mood to see something I knew nothing about, so I rented it. I mean, it is just this little cheap indie, but I was cracking up! I actually decided to purchase the movie after watching it for my personal DVD library. These character had me rolling on the floor! I haven't heard of these actors before but I really enjoyed them. I've been quoting it for weeks, but nobody knows what I am talking about. People need to watch this so they can laugh with me. I mean, seriously: the dolphin?? Abe Lincoln? Strawberry shortcake? If you want to find out what these "adult" things mean, check it out! I would love to see a sequel.
