Off (the chain) Rip!

This movie made me tear up and get emotional at least three times all thanks to Jadon's incredible acting chops. There are so many funny lines and hilarious moments throughout the film. The intense moments had me gripping my seat. The cinematography really pulled me into the film with so many beautiful shots and imagery. The subject and themes are all relatable and I connected with so many of the characters and found myself rooting for them. This movie has a beautiful message and reminded me what's important in life. I was so impressed by the acting from the entire cast and I can't wait to see them all in future projects.

Skim Boarding with Heart

Hands down the most heart felt journey I've seen in a while, with sick Skim Boarding footage that has never been seen with such vibrant colors, cinematography & focus, energy & a musical score that brings you into the skim culture beautifully.

Skim boarding is an art form, done as a dance with the ocean waves in such a way that makes you feel like you are right there on the beach, with the sand in your toes & breathing in the salty air.

If you've never experienced skim boarding or if it's a part of your life, this will light you up in ways you didn't know were dark.

This is the heart of our hero's journey that keeps you engaged from the beginning.

Lots of heart

For a young filmmaker to write, direct, edit and star in his own film at such a young age with a small budget is an incredible feat. Jadon Cal is a promising talent and filmmaker.

This film has loads of heart and some great performances. I believe the actor who played Brent, David Hamzik, is a future great. Every scene he is in is so alive. You can't take your eyes off him.

You can't help but feel for the main character, Chris, who seems to be living in a deteriorating world. He is losing people to drugs, but his love for skim boarding and protecting his little brother gives him purpose.

The film does a great job settling into itself and transporting you to this little Florida town.

Inspirational Film hits ALL the marks of a great Film

"OFF RIP," is a Film that will inspire anyone that ever had a dream, of achieving success in a sport that you personally wanted to attempt to play growing-up!

The story goes and shows and expresses most of the negativity that high school athletes/students are overwhelmed with and encumbered with, while navigating the growing pains of our youth.

"OFF RIP," is about a High School kid wants to help his mother pay the bills and keep the house for his younger brother, that they grew-up in. Using 'Skimboarding,' as the sport, Chris's character works tirelessly to win some tournaments to make some money working for it.

This Film is raw and real and filmed on the beaches of Pinellas County Florida, where the Hurricanes of 2024 destroyed the entire area, so this movie is also a time capsule of a sort.

It's funny and exciting and a blueprint for future sports film makers to abide by, if they want to make a successful film for all ages! And it's never too late to be inspired to do anything!

Ian Ryan

Jadon is a good friend of mine and I went to initially support him. Wasn't looking forward to sitting through a cheesy skim boarding film to be honest(which was absolutely not)haha. As a surfer I do respect all water sports and skimming is definitely not easy. I wanted to support Jadon anyway I can. I was very surprised the movie had a deeper meaning to it. It was really good!! Pulled some heart strings and even shed a few tears. Dog town and z boys but skim boarding. The core of the movie was about family and overcoming challenges. Never losing heart and standing up for what's right. I loved it and will be recommending the movie to friends and family. The producers, cast, and crew were all incredible and it was really great meeting everyone at the premiere. Very talented and genuine individuals.

Review - 10/10 Stars Title: A Triumph of Heart, Grit, and Saltwater Dreams

Review - 10 Stars This film is a gritty, heartfelt triumph. Centered on a young skim-boarder carrying the weight of his broken home, the story dives deep into themes of survival, loyalty, and identity. It's raw and emotional, capturing the struggle to become the man his family has always needed.

The lead gives a standout performance-vulnerable, determined, and incredibly real. His connection with the actress playing his mother is powerful and grounding, while the supporting cast brings authenticity and layers that elevate every scene.

The cinematography plays a major role in pushing this film across the finish line. Every shot feels purposeful-capturing both the beauty of the coastline and the weight of the character's world. It draws you in, makes you feel what the characters are feeling, and keeps the emotional current flowing from start to finish.

This team-cast and crew-showed up with heart, vision, and grit. And what they created isn't just a film-it's a story that sticks with you. 10 stars.

Nostalgic heart.

'Off Rip' provides a feeling of nostalgia for old surf films as well as 'better, simpler' days.

For Jadon Cals directorial debut, this is a solid piece of filmmaking filled with heart. You can tell Jadon took 'write what you know' and ran with it. You can feel the specificity of Floridian culture.

As a beach kid myself, growing up on the beaches of California, I related to this film on a whole other level but I don't think you have to be a beach native to relate to the themes of family woven into this film.

If you're looking for a great summer film to watch with your friends after a day at the beach, check out 'Off Rip'

Pure heart

Fantastic film. If you are a water sports adventurer & seeking your next thrill, this is the first film of its kind to highlight the Skim Boarding culture. A true path paver, this writer/director & lead actor are all the same amazing young man, Jadon Cal.

And it's pure heart, Jadon's vision brought life by the most talented team of folks in front of & behind the camera, in pre & post production. If you are looking for something to bring your senses alive, this film has it all-so much you will think you feel the ocean waves spray on your faces with the crisp footage. Thank you for highlighting the gorgeous Florida coast before the hurricanes of 2024.

Stella

This film takes turns where you don't expect while simultaneously introducing you to a new art - skim! Where most sports dramas follow the tried and true path of commercial sports like football, tennis and golf - Off Rip takes a bold step of faith highlighting the niche' sport and culture of Skim Boarding. The story eases you into the Floridian culture and you witness fantastic and gritty performances throughout the entire cast.

An encapsulating experience that shows the real struggles faced when striving for your dreams while 'life' come at you from all different angles and it's hard to make sense of. Beautifully cast, written, shot, and produced. The team should be proud of this piece!

Amazing movie!

Phenomenal film! I can't remember watching a film recently that has made me feel as much as I have watching this. I loved the story, and the visuals were amazing! Literally felt like I was in the world with the characters! So glad to see personal stories being told with beautiful lessons on life, love, and family, without it being sugarcoated but showing the real struggles and pressures people are going through. Such an amazing job by the cast and crew! The chemistry was incredible and the acting was superb! The film finished and I wanted to see more of these characters! Maybe a show? 👀! But I love it all together. Phenomenal job by everyone involved!

90's Babies, Come Get Your Blue Crush Fix!

I recently had the pleasure of watching Off Rip at its first LA screening alongside its creators, cast, and crew.

At its core, the film is a sporty, nostalgic coming of age story that serves as a love letter to family, friends, and those who toe the line. What does it mean to be a son, a brother, a teammate, a partner? How do you navigate these bonds when they stretch your understanding of who you've been and who you want to become?

It's a hometown sports film, where the sport (skim boarding) is not the main character, but rather the ecosystem in which our antagonists and protagonists get to know themselves and each other better.

Some great Florida men make a good movie

A very well shot and well acted film with a lot of heart. You can definitely feel the amount of sweat and passion that went into making it. What does movie does really well is shows what it's like to grow up in Florida as a young man. That's the best compliment. I can give to it and that's what this movie does best.

My critique is that it feels like the main character has a lot going on to handle. I get that this is a movie about a young man trying to figure out what direction he wants to go in life, and the pressures that come with that, as well as his family and friends dynamic. But it does come a point where it's almost too much, and we kinda lose the plot. Because of that, certain plot points never got fully resolved or acknowledged.

A movie can definitely have an A plot and a B. Plot. But when you introduce a C and D plot, all revolving around the same main character, that's where things get way too bloated.

Less is more in this case.

With that said, the quality of the movie remains consistent throughout and there are no parts that are outright bad in regards to acting and filmmaking. Certain subject matters within the film are taken seriously, with little bits of comic relief with all the jokes landing. Definitely ends on a good note.

'OFF-RIP' - Mindblown!!!

I attended one of the first ever screenings of 'Off Rip' down in Florida and I was completely and utterly floored by what I witnessed on screen.

The film, in terms of story, is just so incredibly beautiful and relatable. No matter who you are or what your background is - there is a character within this film that you'll be able to relate to but not only will you relate to the character in a "hey, that's totally me" kind of way but it will grab you in a way that emotionally impacts you and makes you evaluate yourself and your experiences in such a beautiful way. This is all thanks to the unbelievable cast this film has. Each actor fully understands their characters and delivers. The story is captivating all the way through, devastating at times, beautiful at times and hilarious a lot of the time. It brings you through the full range of emotions but that's what good stories do.

The creative team behind this film deserve to be applauded for the unbelievable work they put into this. It was clear to me from watching the film that each crew member didn't just show up for the paycheck but instead each crew member believed in the heart behind this film and the impact that it will undoubtedly have on each viewer and because of that everybody must've showed up excited to collaborate with one another to create a masterpiece.

Beautiful Story!

Off Rip is an excellent movie with a wonderful story. It is well made with a great cast. The character of Chris (Jadon Cal)has so much heart and it shows throughout the entire movie. Other outstanding performances were Pops, Brent, and Rosie. Having the opportunity to see this movie was fantastic. Truly more people need to be able to see this movie. The story moved along well and the ending couldn't have been better. The last 30 minutes really brought the entire movie to a climactic and beautiful ending. You really were rooting for Chris the entire movie. No spoilers here, I wouldn't want to ruin the movie for anyone. Loved it!!

Impressive and Ambitious

Off Rip is a very ambitious film for an independent movie filmed in Florida. Acting, editing, and cinematography are top notch and the script has a lot of heart. A good mix of drama and comedic relief lends to a satisfying experience.

Jadon Cal is a convincing leading man and carries a lot of weight. Nick McCallum also really stands out in his performance, as a funny yet wise mentor character.

The skim boarding world is completely foreign to me, but the film does a good job of capturing its culture as a backdrop for a much larger and darker story. It helps ground the characters in the world and facilitates a strong coming of age story.

Amazing One of a Kind Film

First film I have ever seen about the Skim boarding culture. Cinematography is breathtaking, the acting the story and the whole range of emotions that this film touches is simply extraordinary!

If you are looking for a film that you can feel like you are part of then this is it. The music is beautiful, the action is smooth and captivating and you will fall in love with the characters. It is said in a lot of reviews that you will laugh, you will cry and you will be surprised, but indeed in this film you will get that and so much more. This is a film that you can watch again and again and enjoy it every time.

Captivating

Absolutely LOVED watching Off Rip!!!! It's always special to see your hometown used in such a creative and relatable way with locals used as well. Nothing like having some comedy, romance, and suspense all in one! Doesn't hurt that we get to see our cherished and beautiful beaches and local shops be used throughout the movie as well. I'm not a skim boarder, but it definitely caught my interest after watching this movie and I learned a little about skim boarding that I never would have known. Ready to watch it again! Great cast, great production, just all around wonderful movie! You must go see it to understand.

Off Rip - flashback and current

Growing up on Florida Beaches, skim-boarding was popular but not competitive. We girls loved watching the cute young guys in the 70's. Fast forward to what skim-boarding has become and WOW! I loved the action and progression of the sport!

And then there are the many heartfelt stories and life messages within the film. I laughed, got choked up, and related to the characters along their journey.

This story is truly unique. It is one you want to talk about after watching the film because it is thought-provoking. That's rare these days in my opinion.

Well done, Jadon Cal, Cast and Crew! Long live the Salt Life!

Off Rip - The Next Dogtown!!!

This movie was such a crazy ride! I had many laughs and many tears throughout the journey of this movie and was delighted to check out the vibes on a sports-movie that I've never seen before highlighted! It even had the best skimboarders in the WORLD!

Stoked to check it out when it's out again!

If I were to be critical of this movie, I'd say the performances were mostly great, but there's always moments in indie films where it lags a bit. The editing was tight, and maybe there could have been a hair less music throughout some segments. It gets pretty heavy, but I think the movie overall keeps the pace up and doesn't overdo the slow parts.

Brought me back

In an age where we have become accustomed to multi-million dollar movie budgets, Off Rip takes the viewer back to times when characters move you and storylines matter more.

I also enjoyed the idea of the first ever skim boarding movie to be made. Featuring it in Florida made all the difference for the setting. The beach towns and the style of scenery settings that they had felt like you were there in the film. So many people I know would enjoy this movie.

This coming-of-age film gets in your feelings..."Off Rip". I thoroughly enjoyed this movie and the actors from top to bottom, brought the characters to life. Amazing!
