In the original script the harvest was to be of an apple orchard. The lack of a suitable apple orchard in the Oklahoma City area necessitated changing the story to the harvest of a grape vineyard, of which there are many in central Oklahoma. The single apple tree in the final production is an allusion to the original apple orchard harvest.
When he brings her "a cup and a half" of flour, it might literally be "one container + one half container", but the larger container has a 4-cup capacity and is half full making it about 3 cups that he brought her.
