The whole family loved watching the experience this family had during such a horrific ordeal. We felt like we were there and everyone of us worried about his safe return. We also love watching movies that strengthen the beliefs we already hold to be true and dear to our hearts.
This was a wonderful movie and showed the example that God wants us to love our neighbors. We are to be God's hands and feet and that's what these neighbors did. I don't understand the previous reviewer who said that he and his wife sat down on a Saturday night thinking that the film would be action, drama, or comedy. He was annoyed that this kind of film is allowed in the main-stream and that such a film can be put upon so many innocent viewers. First of all, are you really an innocent viewer? Didn't you read a synopsis of the movie before you rented/watched it? My husband and I always do that to see if we're interested. If you don't like the synopsis, then I suggest you don't watch it. But you are mistaken when you say that the film was put upon you. You chose to view it obviously without checking out the content of the film. As far as your comment about the film being "allowed in the main-stream", when did you become judge and juror of what films should be allowed to be viewed? The last I heard the USA was a free country and we are allowed to view any movie we want. I would much rather see this type of heart-warming movie than a gory, violent, full of vulgarity sort of movie. And the story is most believable; God performs miracles everyday. This movie was not an experience in religion, but a story of hope, faith, and dependence upon Our Creator, God. And yes, I am a devout Christian who believes that God wants us to love Him with all our hearts and love thy neighbor as thyself. And that's what these neighbors did. If I was unfortunate enough to be in such a situation, I would want neighbors like these to be here for me. As God's creation, we have free-will to choose Him and His love or reject it. I pray that you will not reject it. The joy of knowing God is too extraordinary for description! Peace and Grace to you and your wife.
This is a good clean family movie. The storyline is thought provoking, suspenseful and touching all at once. The producer does a wonderful job of using the disappearance of an adorable two year old boy, in the midst of one family's hustle and bustle. The sudden interruption in their daily routine causes not only them - but the entire community - to pause, call upon God and reflect on the important things in life. All done without nudity, cussing or drugs.
But..... it would have been even better if the genius filming it would have spent another $100 for a decent camera tripod. The camera nauseatingly bounces all over like they're filming in a heard of buffalo, making over half of the movie unwatchable. A sad way to ruin what could have been a good film.

The way home is a true story about a major event in the Simpkin's family lives and is very well done if i do say so myself. Dean Cain is spectacular and really makes you feel for his character. Lori Edgerman is really good with being a concerned mother but has her occasional over the top accent. Some of the supporting cast is a bit undeveloped and distracting. the highlight of this film is dean in the woods praying for his son to be alright. The pace of the film is well planned out as is the story. the film will pull you into this major event of a struggling family's life i think you will be wanting this to be finding The Way Home to your DVD collection!
For the last six years, I have personally been looking for some good faith-based movies to watch to inspire my life which at age 65 how's I rate this?
I have watched countless movies in the past five years, and there are so few that have good acting and good stories stories. This this is one ofthem.
The emotions of the father going through the search seem real, although I could imagine infinitely more intensity.
The interactions between the father and the mother, especially when the mother starts accusing the father, resonated deeply with me and the situation I've lived in my life.
To write this movie one star simply because it's a Christian movie is absolutely ridiculous. To rate at nine or ten might be just a little bit generous.
The genre has very weak representation, and this goes very long way to improve it. We need more movies like this that are based on fact.
And if you're not a Christian, the movie is still a good movie. Just don't close your eyes during the prayers if you don't want to hear them.
