Protege Moi

It is a bad sign when I have to rewatch a film, that I had been watching for review, because I fell asleep first watch. I mean, I am a person of a certain age but most vampire films, no matter how poor, keep my attention locked and my eyes open. I think, as we'll see, the issue with this film was the lack of cohesive narrative.

The entire thing seems to be green screen produced, giving it a graphic novel look and this is meant to be part one. I've mentioned narrative issues above but the general story (vampire hunter kills bride, vampires go for revenge, Soelene is caught in the middle looking after mum) has no real depth or nuance to it. Stakes kill. So does sunlight allegedly, but that rule seems to break. Vampires feel it when another is killed. There isn't much more to say. Some of the effects are truly poor - papier-mâché head I'm looking at you.

Robbie Lopez's Protege Moi vampire flick certainly goes all out with special effects and green screen. The location scenes are actually good looking but I feel like it was just an excuse for filming half naked ladies in front of a green screen in the director's bedroom most likely. I'm not sure what to say about this film apart from the fact that I felt lost and discombobulated the entire watch through. Technically levels are average with some surprisingly good looking background effects but then is ruined by amateur looking green screen student effects which doesn't help balance the films visual look.

No pun intended - I understand that some really want to push this. I got love for independent and low budget movies. That said though and while I try to avoid using the 1 star rating ... I just couldn't avoid it in this case. And to think there are plans to make more ... well I reckon it can't be worse than this.

The previous reviewer already mentioned the really bad green screen effects this has - add to that the "acting", a weak script/dialog and so many other things that you have to just ignore ... or cherish I reckon? This has some horror icons (to some, Felissa Rose to name just one. The movie also has a lot of b....lood! And the other b of course ... as in (female) breasts. I doubt anyone watching this movie will have an issue with the nudity though ... it is a selling point.

Know what to expect and hopefully that means this is right up your alley ... and my and others ratings won't matter at all. I will be happy for you.
