A+E Networks is rebranding to A+E Global Media and renaming its ad sales division to A+E Media Solutions, signaling the company aims to expand its scope beyond cable TV ahead of its annual upfront presentation to advertisers Wednesday.

Ad sales executive vice president Toby Byrne told TheWrap the name changes are a “better reflection of who we are as a company now and who we’re going to be going forward.”

“We are very much a multi-platform, global provider of entertainment. We believe in engaging content that is talent driven and that can be seen across platforms. We have really vast distribution endpoints well beyond linear,” Byrne said. “Everything we do is with the mindset that we are a full service content innovation team that looks to partner with brands to try to meet their needs in whatever their priorities are.”

Les Films du Losange and WME Independent have taken on sales for Kristen Stewart’s directorial feature debut The Chronology Of Water.

The film, which releases a first look image today, shot in Latvia and Malta over six weeks in June/July.

The screenplay is written by Stewart and Andy Mingo adapted from Lidia Yuknavitch’s best-selling memoir.

WME Independent is handling North American sales. Les Films du Losange is on board for international sales and French distribution.

Real estate investor Grant Cardone is set to appear on A&e’s Home.Made.Nation after the lifestyle block snapped up his Real Estate King series.

The series has been licensed to the network and will premiere June 12.

The show follows Cardone as he is pitched a variety of real estate deals by local real estate operators and wannabes alike, as they vie for the opportunity to get a deal funded by the real estate king himself.

It is produced by 10X Studios, which was founded by Cardone and Aengus James. The deal was struck by CRE84U Entertainment’s Monica Gil-Rodriguez and Allied Management Group’s John Pollak.

A+E Networks is getting into business with Reese Witherspoon’s Hello Sunshine.

The two companies have struck a deal under which Hello Sunshine will develop lifestyle shows for A+E’s Home Made Nation content hub — which includes programming blocks on A&e and Fyi and on the company’s Fast channels. A+E announced the deal Wednesday as part of its upfront pitch to advertisers.

The first series from the agreement is called Country House Hunters, which will follow couples who — you guessed it — are looking to buy homes in the country. It’s set to premiere in the summer and will join a roster of shows on Home Made Nation that also includes Zombie House Flipping and Lakefront Luxury.

A+E Networks has signed a development deal with Reese Witherspoon’s Hello Sunshine for lifestyle series which will air as part of A+E’s Home.Made.Nation multi-platform content hub. The first series from the partnership will be Country House Hunters, a co-production between Hello Sunshine and Abode Entertainment, which will premiere in the summer of 2024 on A&e.

The announcement was made during A+E Networks’ upfront presentation where the Home.Made.Nation. also unveiled a greenlight for another house-hunting series, 48 Hours to Buy, as well as host for the upcoming Property Virgins reboot. Both shows will debut March 30.

A+E Networks has formed a joint venture with Ray’s Free Food Studios to produce a raft of lifestyle programming. Under the deal, A+E will take a 50 percent stake in Free Food Studios — which Ray formed last year with long-time collaborators Brian Flanagan, Anthony Amoia and Sean Lee of Intentional Content — and produce 278 episodes’ worth of programming for A+E Networks’ Home Made Nation programming block. The block airs on weekend mornings on the A&e Network and Mondays on sister channel Fyi, as well as on the company’s Fast services.

Ray is set to host two cooking shows, Rachael Ray’s Meals in Minutes and Rachael Ray’s Tuscany, the latter of which will film at her villa in Italy.

“Today, I just finished writing over 80 pages of recipes and production notes for my groundbreaking new partnership with A+E Networks.

Oscar-nominated “Spencer” star Kristen Stewart directs “The Film,” a trio of music videos for super-group boygenius consisting of Lucy Dacus, Phoebe Bridgers, and Julien Baker. Three singles from boygenius’ “The Record,” out March 31, are featured onscreen with a 14-minute short film helmed by Stewart.

The short film kicks off with “$20” as the band takes a blood oath with the younger versions of themselves. Track “Emily I’m Sorry” follows Bridgers as she stands in front of a monster truck rally, drawing comparisons to “Titane.” The final video “True Blue” shows Bridgers, Dacus, and Baker painting a house a cobalt blue shade before cuddling with each other in the final scene.

Stewart previously helmed the music video for Sage + the Saint’s 2014 single “Take Me Down to the South” and Chvrches’ “Down Side of Me” in 2017. She also was behind short films “Come Swim” and “Crickets” and an episode of Netflix anthology series “Homemade.

The upcoming release of “The Record,” the first full studio album from Phoebe Bridgers, Lucy Dacus, and Julien Baker’s Boygenius supergroup, promises to be a landmark event for indie kids and queer women everywhere. And the critically acclaimed musicians have an extra treat for their fans in the form of three upcoming music videos directed by another queer icon: Kristen Stewart.

The news was announced on January 26 via a Rolling Stone cover profile of Bridgers, Dacus, and Baker in support of the upcoming album, which is scheduled for a March 31 release via Interscope Records. A+E Networks has hired Related Content Group’s president and chief content creator Teri Kennedy as head of the company’s lifestyle programming and daytime originals.

In the newly created role, Kennedy will “develop a robust pipeline of new, original lifestyle and daytime programming across A+E’s portfolio of networks, fast channels, the newly-launched multi-platform Home.Made.Nation strand, as well as for worldwide sales and distribution,” per A+E Networks, a joint venture between Disney-abc Television Group and Hearst.

She will report to Rob Sharenow, president of programming for A+E Networks, which encompasses cable channels A&e, Lifetime, the History channel, Lmn, Fyi, Vice TV and Blaze, among other assets.

“Teri brings a wealth of experience and deep relationships in the creative community to help bolster A+E’s industry leading slate and deep library of original lifestyle and daytime programming,” Sharenow said in a statement accompanying Kennedy’s hiring announcement Monday.

World premiering in main competition at this year’s Malaga Festival, “La voluntaria” marks Reguera’s follow-up to her well-received feature 2016 debut, the Bárbara Lennie-starrer “María (And the Others),” which won the best Ibero-American film prize at the Miami Film Festival and earned new director and lead actress nominations at the Spanish Academy Goya Awards.

Ana Lily Amirpour doesn’t want you to call her movies “female-led.” It’s true that all of them to date have been centered around strong female protagonists, including her Venice competition title “Mona Lisa and the Blood Moon,” but they’re much more than that, she says.

The Iranian-American director recalls early reports describing her next project, “Cliffhanger,” a reboot of the 1993 Sylvester Stallone action thriller, as merely a “female-fronted” project and instantly recoils.

“It’s this very boring, uninformed way of talking about things now,” Amirpour tells Variety at the Venice Film Festival. “It’s just ‘the female-driven thing.’ But it’s not just that. Someone could say ‘Mona Lisa and the Blood Moon’ is a female-driven movie. But it’s not. How could you explain it? You have to see it.”

The return of fall festivals means it’s harder than ever to keep up with the deluge of buzzy new titles, from Venice to Telluride and the upcoming Toronto and New York film festivals. Among the many toasts of two of these (specifically Venice and NYFF) is Maggie Gyllenhaal’s feature directorial debut, “The Lost Daughter.” It’s based on a novel by elusive Italian author Elena Ferrante about a woman thrown down a rabbit hole of memory after encountering another young woman while on summer holiday.

We can thank the limitations of the past year as it relates to filmmaking for an increased output of small-scale features as directors weren’t able to bring together large crews safely. Although many full-fledged productions got put on hold, there seems to be a plethora of anthology films in which filmmakers shared their visions of the pandemic experience, from Homemade to Erēmīta (Anthologies) to the forthcoming Cannes premiere The Year of the Everlasting Storm. Now, another notable one has been announced that is taking a different approach.

The prolific Japanese master Sion Sono, Bacurau co-director Kleber Mendonça Filho, Evolution helmer Lucile Hadzihalilovic, The Wild Boys director Bertrand Mandico, and the duo of Helene Cattet and Bruno Forzani (Let the Corpses Tan) have teamed together for a film that features five poetic visions of sexual ecstasy.

Get a first look at the trailer for an intriguing new pandemic anthology film titled The Year of the Everlasting Storm, made by the distributor Neon. This was just announced as part of the official selection at the 2021 Cannes Film Festival coming up next month in France, playing in the "Special Screenings" section. The anthology, or omnibus film, features seven segments made by a roster of incredibly talented international filmmakers. Jafar Panahi, Anthony Chen, Malik Vitthal, Laura Poitras, Dominga Sotomayor, Apichatpong Weerasethakul, David Lowery each shot personal segments during the pandemic. Memoria won’t be the only Apichatpong Weerasethakul film at Cannes Film Festival. Along with that highly-anticipated Tilda Swinton-led project, the Thai master has contributed to an omnibus film that will also premiere at the festival and will also arrive courtesy of Neon.

Featuring seven stories from seven auteurs from around the world, The Year of the Everlasting Storm chronicles this unprecedented moment in time, and is a true love letter to the power of cinema and its storytellers.

Ahead of the premiere, the first trailer and poster have now arrived. With a few other omnibus films made during this time, Homemade and Erēmīta (Anthologies), we’re curious to see these auteurs provide their personal experience.

With the pandemic forcing filmmakers into quarantine it meant many productions and premieres were delayed, leaving creative minds to explore other outlets to produce. We’ve already seen a few results of this with the omnibus films Homemade and Erēmīta (Anthologies)–-both featuring a collection of shorts from world-renowned talent as they were stuck at home––and now another intriguing one has been unveiled.

Screen Daily reports that Apichatpong Weerasethakul, David Lowery, Jafar Panahi, Laura Poitras, Dominga Sotomayor, Anthony Chen, and Malik Vitthal have contributed “personal segments” to the new secretly-shot new feature The Year Of The Everlasting Storm. Produced and financed by Neon, the film is “a love letter to cinemas, and its storytellers.”

After all this wait and a day of decoding the fake titles Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, and Tom Holland posted earlier on their respective Instagram accounts, we finally have the official title for the third Spiderman film, and it's called Spider-man: No Way Home. And that was some cool way to reveal the title as well. Not via an official announcement, but via a short video in which Spider-Man stars discuss how Jon Watts gave them fake titles earlier. As the actors discuss how Holland has previously given spoilers, the camera leaves them and zooms in on a whiteboard where the executives have written different title suggestions before settling down for No Way Home. Despite a shuffling performer line-up due to multiple positive tests for Covid-19, the Country Music Association Awards were held on Wednesday at an in-person ceremony at Nashville’s Music City Center.

In the days leading up to the ceremony, four acts — Rascal Flatts, the recently renamed Lady A, Florida Georgia Line and “I Hope You’re Happy Now” singer Lee Brice — were forced to pull out from the show after either being exposed to or testing positive for Covid.

On September 1 the Country Music Association announced the nominees for the 54th Annual CMA Awards, and Miranda Lambert came out on top with seven bids. That not only makes her the most nominated artist of the year, it makes her the most nominated female artist of all time. Her career haul of 55 noms surpasses former record-holder Reba McEntire, who amassed 50.

Lambert is up for Entertainer of the Year against Eric Church, Luke Combs, Carrie Underwood and Keith Urban. Absent is defending champion Garth Brooks, who recently withdrew his name from consideration after winning seven times. Lambert’s additional six bids are for Single of the Year (“Bluebird”), Song of the Year (“Bluebird”), Album of the Year (“Wildcard”), Female Vocalist of the Year, Musical Event of the Year (“Fooled Around and Fell in Love”) and Music Video of the Year (“Bluebird”). The nominations for the 54th CMA Awards are out this morning, and they don’t include country music legend Garth Brooks as a nominee for the Entertainer of the Year award.

That’s because Brooks voluntarily disqualified himself in late July, saying that he’s won too many times — seven, to be exact, including last year’s — and wants to give the opportunity to another artist.

It was a tweet from a fan that steered Brooks to the decision.

“It said, ‘Hey, man. This guy, why doesn’t he just step down (and leave) the entertainer for the next generation?’ 100% agree,” he told press according to The Tennessean. “It’s time for somebody else to hold that award.”

That leaves the possibilities open this year to Miranda Lambert, Carrie Underwood, Keith Urban, Luke Combs and Eric Church. May the best country star win.
