Jane Schoenbrun confirms their place as a superbly gifted film-maker with the weirdly wonderful story of two misfits finding solace in a creepy TV show
Cinephiles lie awake at night worrying that talented young film-makers are deserting cinema for TV. Jane Schoenbrun, one of the most gifted around, has just made a superb feature film about a fictional TV show, imagined here with such loving and unnerving intensity that it surely can’t be long before they are called upon to conjure up a dozen or so episodes for real. With a compelling cod-90s score by Schoenbrun’s musical collaborator Alexander Giannascoli, or Alex G, I Saw the TV Glow lives on in my head. It deserves cult classic status without the “cult”; it is deeply scary, deeply strange and deeply sad, a deadly serious new version of Gore Vidal’s Myra Breckinridge for the 2020s.

Netflix’s rebooted reality competition series The Mole is back for its second season, trading in the beaches of Australia for the varied landscapes of Malaysia. The contest format stays the same: a dozen players work as a team on challenges to build a cash prize pot, without knowing that one of their allies is secretly an undercover saboteur called “The Mole.”.
At the end, those remaining must identify who has been undermining their efforts all along. But this reboot takes things up a notch, expanding locations, ramping up the twists, and adding a charismatic new host in Ari Shapiro. For a title as harmless as Mary and George, the Julianne Moore – Nicholas Galitzine-led historical drama turns out to be unimaginably violent and incredibly salacious. Based on the infamous romance between George Villiers, aka the first Duke of Buckingham, and King James (of Scotland and England), Mary and George tells three decades of story within the span of seven episodes at breakneck speed—the kind of approach that we’ve seen in HBO’s House of The Dragon. And while the series matches the extremely violent nature of the HBO show, it also has a very Bridgerton-like soapiness going on. The result is insanely entertaining, seven-hour binge-worthy television that keeps you at the edge of your seat till the very last minute. Nicholas Galitzine is electrifying as George, while Julianne Moore plays Mary with the same energy of her film Sharper (2023), which, in many ways, had a thematically similar plot.

Netflix has shared the official trailer for the upcoming movie, May December. Directed by Todd Haynes, the film stars Natalie Portman as an actress who gets entwined in the tense, twisted world of the real-life subject she’s preparing to portray. Watch the trailer ahead of its December 1st premiere below.
Loosely based on the true story of Mary Kay Letourneau — the convicted child rapist who went on to marry and birth two children with her victim — May December follows Portman’s character as she prepares to play a woman (Julianne Moore) who began an affair with a 7th grader, and then eventually married him. Years removed from when their controversial “romance” caused a stir in the headlines, the couple welcomes Portman into their home, hoping to help her “tell the story right” for a movie about the affair.
But as the trailer shows us, the serenity of the couples...

Exclusive: Apple TV+ Has Grown Its Library by 35% in the Past Year as Streamer Hits Viewership Highs
When it comes to keeping subscribers happy and engaged, one of the tried and true methods that streaming services have employed since the dawn of this era of media is to offer libraries so chock full of steady streams of content, that it would be impossible for any one viewer to ever watch it all. However, one subscription video-on-demand (SVOD) service has bucked that trend, and in doing so has remained relatively small in comparison to its competitors, but is becoming increasingly invaluable to contentious customers. By keeping its streaming offerings limited — and not to mention star-studded — Apple TV+ has cultivated a reputation for consistently delivering some of the best series and films on streaming without the unnecessary swings and misses that other streamers force viewers to wade through.

Hulu lined up a fantastic ensemble with the Pam and Tommy cast, which consists of both comedy legends and award-nominated dramatists. The Pam and Tommy miniseries, which is written by Rob Siegel and directed by Craig Gillespie, is about the early days of romance between Playboy cover girl Pamela Anderson and rock star Tommy Lee. It also focuses on the theft of a private sex tape starring the two, which became one of the first viral videos in the early days of the Internet.
The story begins with a revenge scheme enacted by Rand Gauthier, a former porn star turned electrician, who claimed that Lee failed to pay him what he was owed for setting up a security system and private recording studio in Lee's home. After a convoluted heist that involved posing as a dog and stealing a refrigerator-size safe, Gauthier decided, upon discovering the sex tape, to humiliate...

Sebastian Stan and Maria Bakalova, both veterans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, are attached to star in a new spy comedy for Paramount Pictures with Paul Feig attached to produce and potentially direct, TheWrap has confirmed.
Jenny Bicks, a screenwriter known for “The Greatest Showman” and “Rio 2,” is writing the script based off of an original pitch. Plot details are currently unknown.
Feig is probably best known for directing “Bridesmaids,” which began a string of profitable, high-concept, female led comedies like “The Heat” and “Spy.” In 2016 he directed the all-female “Ghostbusters” reboot, which became a cultural flashpoint, cutting short a potential franchise and leaving Sony to quickly revert to a more traditional approach with the release of “Ghostbusters: Afterlife” in 2021.
Since “Ghostbusters,” Feig directed the delicious dark comedy “A Simple Favor,” “Last Christmas” and most recently “The School for Good and Evil” for Netflix. Feig is currently in production on “Grand Death Lotto,...

Exclusive: Sebastian Stan (Pam & Tommy) and Maria Bakalova (Borat Subsequent Moviefilm) are attached to star in an untitled spy comedy in very early development at Paramount, Deadline has learned.

This is turning into a banner year for movies shot on Kodak film, led by such Oscar hopefuls as Christopher Nolan’s IMAX’d “Oppenheimer” biopic, Martin Scorsese’s first Western, “Killers of the Flower Moon,” Bradley Cooper’s Leonard Bernstein film, “Maestro,” Wes Anderson’s latest, “Asteroid City,” and Yorgos Lanthimos’ subversive “Frankenstein” re-imagining “Poor Things.”
And those are just the prestige films.
Likewise, Cannes Film Festival boasted 29 features and shorts shot on Kodak film, including such Oscar hopefuls as Martin Scorsese’s first Western “Killers of the Flower Moon,” (shot by Rodrigo Prieto), Wes Anderson’s ’50s sci-fi comedy-drama, “Asteroid City” (shot by Robert Yeoman) Ken Loach’s “The Old Oak,” about a pub in tension-filled Northeast England, (shot by Robbie Ryan), and Steve McQueen’s “Occupied City,” a documentary about Amsterdam under Nazi occupation during World War II (shot by Lennert Hillege).
Four on-film entries compete for the Palme d’Or.

Americans, by and large, still love Adam Sandler. The Sandman’s latest Netflix flick, “Murder Mystery 2,” topped Whip Media’s movie ranker, which looks at the most-streamed movies in the U.S. Friday through Sunday using viewership data from TV Time, its TV and movie tracking app with more than 25 million global registered users.
The sequel to 2019’s “Murder Mystery” saw Sandler join up again with Jennifer Aniston — both reprising their roles as Nick and Audrey Spitz. This time around, they’re private detectives on the hunt for a friend who has been abducted in France. Of course, that means Sandler and Aniston get to travel to some of the most iconic spots in Paris, including the Arc de Triomphe and the Eiffel Tower, as their characters are hot on the case.
The first “Murder Mystery” got a nice boost from the sequel’s release, finishing the weekend as the third most-streamed movie.

Apple and Amazon are both reportedly planning to spend billions of dollars on movies for release in theaters. It may sound counterintuitive that these two tech giants with their own streaming services are investing in theatrical releases but they likely have reasons beyond box office revenue to pursue this strategy. An analysis of Parrot Analytics’ data — which takes into account consumer research, streaming, downloads and social media, among other engagement — shows why releasing movies widely in theaters might make sense as a way to boost the profile of and subscriptions to their streaming services.
In addition to attracting A-list talent, who might prefer that their work gets a chance to be seen in theaters, Apple is no doubt hoping that giving its movies a theatrical release will persuade more people to sign up for Apple TV+.

A number of recent releases have flown under the radar due to the hustle and bustle of Oscar season, and Benjamin Caron’s Sharper is among those titles that warrants your attention.
Released last month on Apple TV+, Caron’s feature directorial debut stars Julianne Moore and Sebastian Stan, as well as John Lithgow, Justice Smith and Briana Middleton. And while it’s best to go into the thriller completely blind, it chronicles a New York City-based confidence game that affects a number of interconnected characters. The story’s underbelly hit somewhat close to home for the filmmaker as he was able to draw on experiences from his childhood in the Midlands of England.
Because the film is most rewarding without the foreknowledge of con artists being involved, Caron was rather protective of the film’s marketing campaign. In fact, he even suggested a trailer that would include misdirection in the form of a rom-com.

Apple TV+ is staying in the Julianne Moore business, and the streamer is adding even more major talent to join her. After teaming with indie studio A24 to release the neo-noir, film "Sharper" earlier this year (featuring Moore in the lead role), Apple is looking to expand their modest slate of original films with another highly-anticipated project.
Variety reports that Apple has cast Moore and rapidly rising star Sydney Sweeney (seen below in "Euphoria") in a new feature film project titled "Echo Valley." Julianne Moore and Sydney Sweeney are gearing up to play a mother-daughter duo in “Echo Valley,” an Apple Studios feature from “Mare of Easttown” creator Brad Ingelsby.
Like the acclaimed HBO series, “Echo Valley” is rooted in southeastern Pennsylvania, where a grieving woman named Kate Garrett (Moore) lives in isolation on a 22-acre farm. Her days of boarding and training horses at Echo Valley Farm are interrupted when her wayward daughter Claire (Sweeney) shows up one night, covered in someone else’s blood. As the synopsis puts it, that sets into motion “a heart-pounding thriller about just how far a mother will go to save her child.”
BAFTA-winning director Michael Pearce will helm from Ingelsby’s script, developed with Michael Pruss. Ridley Scott will produce through his banner Scott Free, along with Pruss and Ingelsby. Kevin Walsh will produce for The Walsh Company under his multiyear deal with Apple TV...

Get the dialect coach on the line — we’re going back to Southeastern Pennsylvania with “Mare of Easttown” creator Brad Ingelsby. The writer-producer has set the new feature film “Echo Valley” at Apple Studios, and recruited Julianne Moore and Sydney Sweeney as his stars.
“Echo Valley” will follow Oscar winner Moore as Kate Garrett, a woman reeling from a personal tragedy who spends her days boarding and training horses on the secluded and picturesque Echo Valley Farm. Late one night, her wayward daughter Claire (the Emmy-nominated heat-seeker Sweeney) arrives at her doorstep, frightened, trembling and covered in someone else’s blood. In the wake of a recent act of Cameron-on-Cameron violence at the box office, this weekend brings a clash between "Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania" star Jonathan Majors and Jonathan Majors, star of "Creed III." Playing the antagonist role in both movies -- multiverse-traveling despot Kang the Conqueror in "Quantumania" and an old acquaintance with a grudge to settle in "Creed III" -- Majors is now enjoying back-to-back turns at the box office No. 1 spot. Per Variety, the third chapter in the "Creed" story is projected to gross at least $50 million in its opening weekend, surpassing earlier predictions of a debut somewhere in the $30-40 million range.
"Creed III" is the feature directorial debut of Michael B. Jordan, who also plays the titular lead in a reprisal of his role from "Creed" and "Creed II." Despite being the first movie in the overarching "Rocky" franchise not to feature Sylvester Stallone...

Comedy is what we need right now, says Nicholas Hytner, who ran London’s National Theatre for a decade.
It’s fine to have heavy-lifting dramas by Ibsen or Schiller, but boy-oh-boy laughter is an increasingly uplifting necessity.
Which is where Guys & Dolls and James Corden, post his life on The Late Late Show, come in.
Hytner, partnered with longtime executive Nick Starr, now own and control London’s Bridge Theatre and is overseeing a fully immersive revival of the classic Broadway musical Guys & Dolls, choreographed by Dame Arlene Phillips (Strictly Come Dancing) and now in early previews.
It stars Daniel Mays as Nathan Detroit, Andrew Richardson (A Call to Spy) as Sky Masterson, Celinde Schoenmaker (Rocketman) as Sarah Brown and Marisha Wallace (Aladdin) as long-suffering Miss Adelaide. Cedric Neal plays Nicely-Nicely Johnson. Also in the cast are Jordan Castle,...

Guy Ritchie is in the director's chair again, this time to apply his penchant for gangster movies to a spy comedy in Operation Fortune: Ruse de guerre. Now in U.S. theaters and set to debut on Amazon Prime U.K. in April, Operation Fortune brings together an ensemble cast for its globe-trotting adventure, including Jason Statham, Aubrey Plaza, Cary Elwes, Hugh Grant, and Josh Hartnett.
In Operation Fortune, a deadly top-secret weapon known only as "The Handle" is stolen, leading Nathan Jasmine (Cary Elwes) to recruit a team of spies including Orson Fortune (Jason Statham) and Sarah Fidel (Aubrey Plaza) to track it down.
