Historical drama

This is a very nice historical drama that details Brazil's ascendancy towards a powerful nation of the Americas. A lot of the details I had little idea about, coming from an English-speaking nation, such as the Portuguese King moving his court to Brazil to avoid Napoleon's tear through Europe. A lot of the intrigue is in the politics of the day which includes separatist movements and huge divides between Portuguese and Brasileiros, Slavers and freedmen, royalists and republicans, ect

The closest comparison I could find is the wonderful John Adams miniseries HBO did a while back. So if you liked that one, you most likely will enjoy this.

Brazilian Portuguese is a derivation of original Portuguese, from Portugal!

It's a shame, as a portuguese, to be put off by this show right from the start, for the fact that such an important moment in the history of the two coutries is portrayed exclusively by Brazilian Portuguese speaking actors, wich was not spoken in Portugal and i'm not even sure it was spoken in Brazil either at the time, it's just ridiculous... I don´t want to be boring but try to imagine an american movie or show depicting an event or time during or before the american revolution and you have King George the III of England speaking with a Texas accent. That's what this is, the King of Portugal speaking Brazilian... It´s just cheap. They could have tried to get some Portuguese actors to play those roles, and im sure it would be a great historical drama, some kind of colaboration, but i guess Brazilians don´t care much for that these days, and are happy to spread their derived language across the world as if they invented it.

As for the rest, it just seams like another Brazilian soap novel, although historical... with a narrator very "Tropa de Elite" or "Elite Squad" style, wich is a very good Brazilian movie, and from wich the brazilian movie industry still recycles a lot of cheap stuff . Go watch that instead.
