Studies suggest that human laughter might have evolved as a way of communicating that a perceived source of danger is actually harmless. That’s why it makes sense that horror comedies were invented almost immediately after actual horror films, as there’s no better way of dealing with fear than laughing at media-induced collective nightmares.
This ancient custom even applies to more recent and immersive sub-genres, as not even the visceral scares of Found Footage movies are immune to the occasional dose of dark humor. With that in mind, we’ve decided to come up with a list recommending six Found Footage horror-comedies for your viewing pleasure. After all, not every Pov horror flick needs to be an ultra serious compilation of glitches and jump-scares.

Steven Soderbergh’s stripped down ghost story, ‘Presence,’ is an impressive evolution and subversion of the popular low-budget found-footage ghost trend.
“My boy…he came back to save you.”
Ghost stories and poltergeists are such a fascinating horror subgenre that have the power to really connect and get under the audience’s skin in a way that’s not possible with other monsters. The idea of an unfulfilled spirit that can’t – or won’t – move on is easier for many people to buy into than zombies, vampires, or a living doll. Ghosts exist out of time and have the potential to know everything, but also nothing. It’s a poetically beautiful tragedy that makes ghosts such rich – and misunderstood – material for horror movies.
There’s a certain power to ghost movies and how they operate as the ultimate voyeur stories, especially when the spirit and the camera become one.

Freaky and Happy Death Day director Christopher Landon was supposed to be working on Scream 7 – but that project turned out to be so troubled, he had to activate his ejector seat and get out of there. While he has since been replaced on Scream 7 by Kevin Williamson, he has been busy lining up other genre projects, signing on to direct the werewolf thriller Big Bad and the “fast-paced thriller” Drop. Coming our way from Blumhouse and Platinum Dunes, the production company team that has previously brought us the Purge franchise, Drop moved forward first, and is aiming for an April 11th theatrical release. Imagine Knives Out meets François Truffaut’s Day for Night, but set in a present-day Germany rife with tensions about immigration and Islam. That’s the pitch behind Mehmet Akif Büyükatalay’s behind-the-scenes thriller, Hysteria, which kicks off when a copy of the Koran is accidentally — or not — burnt on a film set. Footage of the scene then goes missing, making us wonder who could have stolen it.
The incident happens during the production of a drama about the 1993 arson attack in Soligen, in which five members of a Turkish family were killed when a gang of German skinheads set fire to their home. Büyükatalay uses the recreation of that event as the catalyst for a cleverly plotted whodunit that questions the nature of fictionalizing real-world violence, asking us who ultimately profits off such issue-driven movies.
As with any good mystery, we have to keep guessing which person the culprit...

Blumhouse was once synonymous with the horror genre in the 2010s, with the studio seeing several major hits that scared up a lot of money at the box office. In the past few years, however, there's been a saddening case of diminishing returns and a tarnished reputation for the studio. Director Steven Soderbergh comes out of self-imposed retirement once again for this engaging and effective ghost story, shot in a series of single takes. From the haunted house-style set-up, audiences might be expecting something along the lines of the Paranormal Activity franchise, but Soderbergh has something else in mind.
Presence begins in a renovated, 100-year-old home, in the leafy suburbs of an unnamed city. The titular presence is a ghost, represented by the subjective, point-of-view camerawork. The superhero story of My Hero Academia may have a generous cast of characters on both sides of the heroes vs villains struggle, but only a select few of them could be called seriously important for the plot. Most students in classes 1-a and 1-b are just filler, and the same is even true of some pro heroes and villains, while certain characters are indispensable to the story. These plot-centric characters make all the difference between the things they say and do, and they usually appear in the most critical plot twists, too.
It's a given that protagonist Izuku Midoriya/Deku is the most important My Hero Academia character, since the entire plot happened thanks to him getting One For All and fighting as a hero. Something similar can be said about the symbol of peace, All Might, who made Deku's rise to power possible. If fans don't count those obvious inclusions,...

While the franchise consists of seven movies, the Paranormal Activity movies in order is different chronologically than it is by release date. The main thread of the found-footage franchise follows the sinister demon "Tobi" as he terrorizes families and households throughout the decades. The complex lore of the Paranormal Activity movies begins with the original 2007 film that introduces Tobi and his primary anchor for most of the series, Katie. As the films continue, the expanding backstory and interweaving network of characters gradually reveal a rich, detailed universe of supernatural horror.
The franchise includes backstories, time travel, recurring characters, and connections to Tobi and Katie. With such an intricate chronology, the question of where to start with the Paranormal Activity movies can seem daunting. Two franchise installments are prequels, and two interact directly with Katie's past. There is also an unofficial non-canon Japanese sequel, Paranormal Activity 2: Tokyo Night, but that...

In 1993, a new television show debuted on the Fox network. The X-Files followed two FBI agents, Fox Mulder (David Duchovny) and Dana Scully (Gillian Anderson), as they investigated a series of mysterious cases ranging from paranormal activity to extraterrestrial encounters. The show gained a large following, particularly among science fiction fans and those fascinated by the growing interest in alien phenomena. The massive popularity of The X-Files might not have come to fruition had it not been for a television show that began airing on the same network in 1991 called Sightings.
Sightings, a show hosted by Tim White, showcased a broad range of investigations of alleged alien abductions, UFO sightings, and paranormal hauntings. Sightings and The X-Files were certainly two very different programs, as the latter was a fictionalized series and the former was investigative and presented in the same way that other shows such as A Current Affair or Hard Copy were depicted.

This article will contain spoilers for My Hero Academia season 7.
Dabi made waves among fans throughout the run of My Hero Academia, ranking fourth place Japan's 9th Mha popularity poll and being the first villain to make it into the top five. Whenever the anime is trending on TikTok or other social media, especially during the release of new episodes, Dabi stans always float to the forefront with their takes on why this unhinged, fiery villain is attractive. But why do people like him to this degree?
Dabi is sociopathic, sadistic and wants to see the world burn. He was hellbent on killing innocent people if it meant exacting vengeance against his father. He has shown ruthless cunning when faced with heroes. So why is he such an adored character? For the same reasons that make him such a complex villain, Dabi is one of Kohei Horikoshi's best-written characters in the Mha franchise.

Some of the most chilling moments in horror movies stem not from what is explicitly shown on screen, but from what is deliberately left unseen. Off-screen deaths harness the power of suggestion, compelling audiences to imagine the gruesome details and confront their deepest fears. By avoiding explicit visual depictions, filmmakers tap into the audience's imagination, often evoking a more profound psychological impact that lingers long after the credits roll. These moments rely on atmosphere, sound design, and subtle cues to create a sense of unease, proving that sometimes, what we dont see is far more terrifying than what we do.
The most shocking off-screen deaths in horror films showcase how subtlety and implication can surprise and unsettle viewers. If you've been online in the last several years, you know that film fans love to make their little ranked lists of franchise movies, particularly horror fans. In addition to the fun of making a ranking, people love to use these exercises to express their individuality, often highlighting undervalued or overpraised entries in a given series as a way of going against the grain of consensus. Not that people are always looking to be contrarian; a lot of these rankings tend to strongly resemble one another. Still, you rarely find a few that are exactly alike.
Yet sometimes, a consensus is inarguably reached. As an aggregator, Rotten Tomatoes provides a decent bird's eye view of a film's reception. While it's hardly the first or last word on a movie, it certainly helps one understand the conversation at large surrounding it. There are numerous examples of movies that are generally beloved...

Horror franchises have continued to dominate the genre, often overshadowing new releases that do not have a connection to a well-known and popular series. Many of these franchises have a mix of good and bad movies, including icons like Halloween, Alien, Saw, and The Conjuring. These titles have had enough success to overshadow the lackluster installments, even if they're known for only one or two major films that keep the series alive.
Other horror franchises in the genre have not withstood the test of time or kept viewers interested in more bad installments than good or even decent ones. Series like Puppet Master and Paranormal Activity may have a cult following, but the overall critical and audience reception is exceptionally poor. Despite having multiple sequels, these horror series only have one distinguishable film.
Jaws (1975-1987) Should Have Never Been A Series
Steven Spielberg's Jaws is the most monumental creature feature and shark movie ever.

The horror genre was founded for creators to push boundaries and to experiment with filmmaking in a way that no other medium has as they search for new methods of terrifying audiences by re-imagining concepts that have unnerved watchers for years. Few horror subgenres have been as successful at this as found footage, as creators try out new ways to place audiences in the victims' perspectives with this boundary-pushing concept. Of course, they don't always work. But every so often, this genre has hit gold, with groundbreaking titles like The Blair Witch Project and Paranormal Activity. Since the quick rise and fall of found footage in the 2000s, there have been many attempts to innovate this subgenre, but few have been as successful as 2013's Evidence.

Exclusive: Marvel’s Moon Knight Director Mohamed Diab has revealed fresh details about his new feature Lion, starring Egyptian megastar Mohamed Ramadan in a role inspired by Ancient Rome rebel slave Spartacus.
“It’s a period piece, a kind of Spartacus meets Braveheart set in 1850s Egypt,” said Diab, talking to Deadline on the fringes of Egypt’s El Gouna Film Festival.
Currently mid-way through shooting in Cairo, Lion marks Diab’s first picture back in his native Egypt since 2016 breakthrough Clash. In between times, he made the Palestine-set drama Amira, followed by directing Moon Knight for Marvel.
Diab has revealed very little about the new movie, which was originally announced under the title of Black Lion and is being billed as his most ambitious Arab-language production to date.
“It’s about slavery in the 1850s. It’s an epic film. It’s not based on a real person but inspired by true events.

Quick Links Producer Jason Blum Learned From a Prior Development Mistake Paranormal's Unique Approach to Found Footage Format After Tirelessly Shopping Paranormal Activity, It Found Unparalleled Success
Has a film ever been less heralded for its financial success than Paranormal Activity? On a mere $15K shooting budget, with only an additional $200K being spent on post-production and promotion, the film that shot Blumhouse Productions into the stratosphere still receives precious little praise for changing Hollywood. Long before Paranormal Activity, Jason Blum, who runs Blumhouse Productions, made a big error while working in development at Miramax in the '90s he passed on The Blair Witch Project. Ideally, the heroes and villains in anime will stick around exactly long enough to have a proper character arc and do what they must do, then bow out of the story. If a character lingers and overstays their welcome, their character arc will stall out, and they might even end up feeling downright redundant. In other cases, a character may overstay their welcome simply because they're annoying to watch and a little of them goes a long way.
That is sometimes the case with certain anime villains, who stubbornly keep fighting the heroes even after they've lost their most important battle. Some villains keep coming back for more even when they no longer stand a chance against the heroes, or they're so unbearable, anime fans want them to go away after their first battle or conflict. Such is the case for ten particular anime antagonists who felt like they were...

My Hero Academia ended this year after a successful run of ten years. Kōhei Horikoshi weaved the story around a huge cast of characters with interesting quirks. While it can be said that he couldn’t focus satisfyingly on most characters, besides the main ones, it’s safe to say that he tried to give most of them their moments to shine. One such moment is also Gege Akutami’s favorite fight in My Hero Academia.

Freaky and Happy Death Day director Christopher Landon was supposed to be heading into production on Scream 7 – but that project turned out to be so troubled, he had to activate his ejector seat and get out of there. While he has since been replaced on Scream 7 by Kevin Williamson, he has been busy lining up other genre projects, signing on to direct the werewolf thriller Big Bad and the “fast-paced thriller” Drop. Coming our way from Blumhouse and Platinum Dunes, the production company team that has previously brought us the Purge franchise, Drop moved forward first, and is so far along that a teaser trailer was even show at the New York Comic Con over the weekend! That trailer hasn’t made its way online yet, but a teaser poster has, along with some story details. Here’s the poster:

Tobin Bell owns a metal briefcase that he uses to house nine composition books, each one containing the notes he took to prepare to play John Kramer, a.k.a. Jigsaw, in the movies that make up the Saw franchise.. Soon, he’ll start taking notes in a tenth book, because Saw XI is on track for a September 26, 2025 release – and he has confirmed to the LA Times that Kramer is “a main part” of the latest sequel.
The LA Times reports that the first page of the notes Bell took for the original Saw “includes a drawn spiral interrogating the likes, dislikes and motivations” of his character. The other pages “are occupied by a series of questions about the character. They start with the most basic details — ‘Where am I?’ for example — and evolve into increasingly specific queries until they form an inverse triangle brimming with insight he’s deciphered on his own.

If read in order, the subtitles of the first six theatrically released "Resident Evil" movies almost ... almost ... spell out a "Divine Comedy"-like story arc. The first film is, naturally, merely called "Resident Evil" (2002), and it's about the release of a deadly, corporate-owned virus that turns the citizens of the world into zombies, creatures, or merely dead corpses. The film's sequel is subtitled "Apocalypse" (2004), implying that the virus escaped containment and infected the Earth. The third film is called "Extinction," implying that the virus did its job and humanity has become extinct. The arc is pretty clear.
What comes after extinction? Well, the fourth film is called "Afterlife" (2010), following the now-dead humanity into Elysium. How apropos. Sadly, the fifth film in the series is not called "Resurrection" or "Reincarnation," but "Retribution" (2012), kind of breaking the spiritual cycle. Perhaps with "Retribution," humanity has become a gaggle of vengeful ghosts? Or perhaps not.
