Which MCU Actors Have Won The Oscars? (Photo Credit – Wikipedia)
The Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) is best known for its visual spectacles, record-breaking box office numbers, and storylines that span galaxies. But beneath the CGI battles and billion-dollar spectacles lies a cast filled with some of Hollywood’s most acclaimed actors. While comic book films were once dismissed as genre fare unworthy of critical recognition, Marvel flipped the script by assembling a lineup of performers whose talent had already been validated by the industry’s highest honor: the Academy Award.
These aren’t just actors playing superheroes; they’re Oscar winners who brought gravitas, complexity, and character depth to roles that could have easily been one-dimensional. From long-established legends to surprising supporting players, the MCU is quietly stacked with gold, figuratively and literally. What’s especially striking is the sheer variety among these Oscar-winning performers. Some won decades ago, long...

Actors turning into directors is nothing new in Hollywood, but what’s wild is how many of them are crushing it. We’re not just talking about the usual suspects like Clint Eastwood or Ron Howard, who basically have Oscars for breakfast. Nope.
These days, more and more actors are hopping behind the camera and serving up some seriously impressive stuff. Whether it’s because they’re tired of the same old roles or they’ve caught the directing bug after spending years on set, the results have been anything but boring.
Some of these folks have directed films that blew up the box office. Others have gone the indie route and ended up with festival awards and critical love. And the best part? A lot of them weren’t even on anyone’s radar as directors until, boom, they dropped a movie that made everyone stop and say, “Wait,...

Angelina Jolie is mostly known as a highly profitable action star, especially for her run in the early 2000s. Even at the height of her stardom, her projects were plagued with poor reviews.
Her 2002 rom-com Life or Something Like It was no exception. Even though it premiered three years after her Oscar for 1999's Girl, Interrupted, and in the midst of her Tomb Raider fame, the rom-com was a major critical and commercial failure. However, many projects get an afterlife on streaming, and Tudum reports Jolie's Life or Something Like It was a major hit on Netflix following its debut on streaming.
For the week between Apr. 14 and 20, Life or Something Like It debuted in third place in the global charts. The rom-com received encouraging numbers, with 5.5 million views and 9.6 million hours viewed.

The massively underrated Renny Harlin/Shane Black action film with Geena Davis and Samuel L. Jackson is getting a well-deserved upgrade. The Long Kiss Goodnight is also a notable movie that Samuel L. Jackson says he would love to do a sequel for. However, as fun as it is, the Christmas action film can always stand strongly on its own without the concern of a follow-up that misguidedly taints it. However, hopefully the film will find a new audience as Blu-ray.com is now reporting that The Long Kiss Goodnight is getting a 4K Ultra-hd release, courtesy of Arrow Video. And if you’re a fan of the film, it’s Christmas time for you, because you’re getting all the goodies to come with it.
The description reads,
“From screenwriter Shane Black and director Renny Harlin comes ass-kicking action thriller The Long Kiss Goodnight.

Few Hollywood starlets have had the kind of career that Angelina Jolie has had over the years in the business. She has most recently made waves with her performance as the opera singer Maria Callas in the newest Pablo Larraín trilogy film. However, long before spearheading the cast of Maria, Jolie's career was quite fruitful. Jolie, who began acting as a child in 1982, has grown tremendously as an artist, taking on roles in a variety of successful and challenging films.
Jolie has cemented herself as one of the most versatile actors of her generation, from performances like the trouble-making sociopath Lisa in Girl, Interrupted, to the classic evil sorceress in Disney's Maleficent, the latter leading up to a possible Maleficent 3. Though Jolie has occasionally taken breaks from acting to pursue humanitarian work and directing, her career has hardly slowed down, and it's clear why. Actors like Jolie are hard to come by,...

James Mangold, known for exploring various film genres, is back with A Complete Unknown, a Bob Dylan biopic featuring Timothée Chalamet as Dylan. Mangold relates to Dylan’s constant evolution, explaining that he enjoys surprising both himself and audiences by taking on unexpected projects.
He told MovieWeb, ‘I don’t think I change myself. I don’t think Bob reinvents his core soul, but I like to throw myself into things that people don’t expect or that I don’t expect.’
Surprisingly, though, Mangold is returning to the superhero realm with DC’s Swamp Thing. He sees it as a standalone gothic horror film rather than part of a larger franchise. He mentioned, ‘With Bob [Dylan] you have known quantities, yes, but there are ways to interpret them.’ For Swamp Thing, he aims to bring originality to the table, focusing on creating a unique story despite the established fan expectations.

James Mangold returns to one of the many genres he's thrived in with A Complete Unknown, a Bob Dylan biopic starring Timothee Chalamet as the folk bard himself. Mangold, though, has spent a career reinventing himself in an almost Dylan-esque way. "In my own modest way, I do identify with [Bob Dylan's career arc]. My entire career, which has been a while now, I have really enjoyed changing what I'm doing," Mangold told MovieWeb. "I don't think I change myself. I don't think Bob reinvents his core soul, but I like to throw myself into things that people don't expect or that I don't expect." As people say, "The only constant is change."

Jolie took a break from acting from 2021's Eternals until 2024's Maria to focus on spending more time with her six kids, Maddox, Pax, Zahara, Shiloh, and twins Knox and Vivienne.

Timothee Chalamet and his Complete Unknown director James Mangold will receive the 2024 Gotham Awards Visionary Tribute for their work on the Bob Dylan biopic.
The honor recognizes collaborations that push the boundaries of storytelling in film.
“In A Complete Unknown, Timothée Chalamet and James Mangold have beautifully captured Dylan’s emergence in 1960s New York not just as an artistic evolution, but as a meditation on the necessity of change,” The Gotham Film & Media Institute executive director Jeffrey Sharp said in a statement. “Through Chalamet’s breathtakingly authentic performance and Mangold’s masterful direction, we witness Dylan’s transformation from folk prophet to electric rebel, showing how growth often requires letting go of the very relationships and identities that shaped us. Together, they have created a work that will not only resonate with longtime Dylan admirers but also introduce his revolutionary artistry to a new generation. We’re thrilled...

The best movies like Girl, Interrupted explore the complex worlds of mental health services, both the good and the bad, and on a more meaningful level, try to understand the emotional journeys people with mental health conditions go on. Girl, Interrupted premiered on December 21, 1999, capping off an incredible year in film which included The Matrix, The Mummy, American Beauty, and some of the decade's best horror movies. Girl, Interrupted is in a genre all its own. It's a tense psychological drama that also serves as a sweet coming-of-age story.
The film follows Susanna Kaysen (Winona Ryder), a nervous, troubled young woman who overdoses on aspirin and alcohol and is forcibly committed to Claymoore, a psychiatric hospital. Was Angelina Jolie almost cast in Charlie’s Angels? ( Photo Credit – Instagram )
Remember when Angelina Jolie had a golden opportunity to strut her stuff alongside Cameron Diaz and Drew Barrymore in Charlie’s Angels? Yep, back in 2000, she was all set to join the action-packed girl gang but said, “Thanks, but no thanks!” Why would a rising star with an Oscar on the horizon turn down such a juicy role? Let’s dive into this wild ride of a decision.
At the time, Jolie was on fire! With hits like The Bone Collector and Girl, Interrupted, she was on her path to literal stardom. Columbia Pictures thought Charlie’s Angels would be the icing for her career. Angelina Jolie is criminally underrated in more ways than one. There is absolutely no denying that the actress is gorgeous and created a completely new category of femme fatale in the industry. However, in her beauty and vanity, many seem to forget her talents go far past her looks.

The actress is one of the most skilled and magnificent actresses in the industry, perfectly capturing the true complexities of female emotion, unlike several two-dimensional characters across Hollywood. Films like Girl, Interrupted; Changeling; and Gia perfectly showcase her abilities to play complex characters. At the same time, there is one film where she gets to explore morals instead of layers.

Angelina Jolie is an impeccable and talented actress. Being a household name through her work in Hollywood, she has made a name for herself for so much more than just her acting skills. Being a director and producer after predominantly acting for most of her professional life is not an easy task.

Struggles with addiction and depression have come into the limelight since the Covid Pandemic. As they have, so too have the stories that often accompany these events. Director Nadine Crocker took her own struggles as inspiration for her film Continue. When shooting Continue, it was her debut feature. It now releases after her follow-up gig – Desperation Road – a Mel Gibson-starring action flick. Even with the long production schedule, she remains as committed as ever to her story.
When formulating Continue, Crocker wore a lot of hats. She served as the director, lead actress, producer, and writer for the film. She jokes “Sleep? What’s that?” when asked how she finds time for it all. “I think every person in the entertainment business knows – during production – you’re like a zombie person. You can’t wait to sleep and rest, but on the last day, you’re wondering how do I get that back?...

Just in time to highlight National Suicide Prevention Month, actress and budding filmmaker Nadine Crocker (Cabin Fever) has put on "33 hats" for her new film, as she recently told us. Yes, she wrote and directed Lionsgate's Continue, in addition to playing the powerful and emotionally charged lead role. You dont even need to do the research to confirm Crockers real-life personal connection to the spellbinding narrative source material here. Its just that palpable, with a raw and vulnerable turn that screams authenticity. As an added bonus, yes, Continue is indeed based on her life and explores her past struggles with suicide and mental health.
Hey, even superhero movies are exploring mental health now and Crocker, who also directed Desperation Road with Mel Gibson not too long ago, shows promise as a helmer of features with this latest passion project. The Oscar-winning stunner Girl, Interrupted might come to mind as...

The Western genre is one of the oldest in cinematic history; 1903s The Great Train Robbery kicked off a style of American storytelling that has grown and evolved over the course of a century. Many of these stories are inherently similar, so it's not unusual to see remakes of some of the most iconic classics within the genre. Films like The Magnificent Seven, True Grit, Ned Kelly, and Rio Lobo spawned new adaptations, so the idea of remaking Delmer Daves 1957 classic 3:10 to Yuma was not particularly egregious. While some remakes have failed to find a reason to replicate perfection, director James Mangold unlocked the central relationship within the story to make his 2007 film even stronger than the original. That is certainly not a statement that can be made lightly considering how influential Daves original film was, but Mangold injected the same emotional complexity, sensitive depiction of masculinity, and heartbreaking...

At the height of her fame in the nineties and noughties, veteran actress Winona Ryder said she missed out on “a lot of parts,” including a starring role in the Charlie Kaufman cerebral romantic drama Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (which went to Kate Winslet), due to excessive tabloid and paparazzi attention.

At the Academy Awards ceremony held earlier this year, Emma Stone was awarded her second best actress Oscar, a mere seven years after winning her first. You might think that winning multiple acting Oscars would be an extreme rarity, but you would be wrong. Stone became the 45th performer ever conferred more than one.
Why do I bring this up? Because if anyone thinks that Angelina Jolie cannot win the best actress Oscar at the next Academy Awards ceremony because she already won once before — in a different category, mind you, best supporting actress, for Girl, Interrupted, which came out exactly 25 years ago — then I’ve got news for you: think again.

Exclusive: NBC’s Chicago Fire has cast KaDee Strickland for a recurring role in Season 13. The new season begins Sept. 25 at 8 p.m. on NBC and next day on Peacock.

Brittany Murphy's final film, Something Wicked, was released five years after her death, disappointing fans with its delayed and lackluster production. Despite a haunting plot and Murphy as the lead, the film received poor audience reviews and a limited theatrical release, likely leading to a box office bomb. Unfortunately, Murphy's career ended before the release of Something Wicked.
Brittany Murphy was one of Hollywood's biggest rising stars in the late '90s and 2000s. That career was cut tragically short when she passed away in 2009 from an accidental overdose at just 32 years old. Some of her best-known roles included Clueless, Drop Dead Gorgeous, Girl, Interrupted, 8 Mile, and a voice role in King of the Hill. While personal issues led to her career stalling shortly before her passing, she could likely have enjoyed even more success in the coming years. But in a way, her career did live on after she was gone.

Angelina Jolie's action movies have solidified her legacy as a true action movie star, despite her recent shift towards drama. Lara Croft: Tomb Raider and Mr. and Mrs. Smith have left a lasting impact in the action movie genre, leading to reboots and adaptations. Although Jolie's upcoming projects seem focused on drama, the potential spy thriller Maude v Maude may offer a chance for her action side to shine once again.
Two years ago, I thought Angelina Jolie was making an action movie comeback, but now I fear that her movies will no longer be part of the genre. Jolie first established her career in the 1990s, picking up roles in movies like Hackers and Gia. However, her big break came in 1999 when she played Lisa Rowe in Girl, Interrupted. From there, Jolie catapulted to international fame, taking on iconic roles in varying genres, such as Lara Croft, Mrs.

Stallone's breakout role in Rocky paved the way for his action hero status, while De Niro secured his place with iconic dramatic performances in The Godfather Part II and Raging Bull. Despite Cop Land's modest box office success, the film is considered an underrated gem with both lead actors shining in their roles.
Twenty-seven years ago, Cop Land united Sylvester Stallone and Robert De Niro on screen for the first time. Although it doesn't necessarily innovate on its tried-and-true genres, the neo-noir crime thriller is a solid entry, especially because of its stars. In fact, it's probably Stallone's most underrated movie. Joined by other crime-drama mainstays like Harvey Keitel (Pulp Fiction) and Ray Liotta (Goodfellas), Stallone and De Niro bring a ton of charisma to their respective roles of Sheriff Freddy Heflin and Lieutenant Moe Tilden.

Coming later this month from Archie Comics is the one-shot Chilling Adventures Presents: Truth or Dare, billed as an homage to the late ’90s/early ’00s teen horror wave.
This brand new tale is part of Archie’s “Chilling Adventures Presents” anthology series, dedicated to standalone one-shots with the vibe of Creepshow and Tales from the Crypt.
In Truth or Dare, “When new student Trula Twyst comes to Riverdale, her mysterious and quiet nature doesn’t mix well with the squeaky-clean façade of Riverdale High. Tormented by her past and with a keen interest in Behavioral Psychology, she sets her sights on dismantling the traditional high school hierarchy from within. How? By a simple game of Truth or Dare.”
The Archie Comics team tells Bloody Disgusting this week, “This horror one shot is smart, sexy, and for fans of movies like Escape Room, Saw, and Girl, Interrupted.”
Truth or Dare was written by Ron Robbins,...

When Angelina Jolie announced nearly a year ago that she’d signed on as a producer of the Broadway-bound musical The Outsiders, folks in the theater community could be forgiven for assuming she was merely the latest in a long and ever-growing line of celebrities willing to either raise money or share fame in exchange for a credit in Playbill.
Those folks would have been wrong.
“Angelina was in the room a lot,” says Outsiders director Danya Taymor, explaining that the Oscar-winning actress offered creative notes, suggestions and even guidance and advice for the show’s young cast, many of whom were making their Broadway debuts.
“I’ve had successes and failures,” Jolie tells Deadline, “and I’ve been around a long time…”
Brody Grant, who has earned a Tony Award nomination for his Broadway debut as Ponyboy Curtis, told Deadline, “Danya and Angelina are two artists...
