Family melodrama with plenty of heart

If you don't like melodrama then don't bother with this show. But once you've accepted that misunderstanding and lack of communication alone are sufficient causes for serious heartbreak between people who genuinely love each other, then you will enjoy this show enormously. The actors are fantastic and their relationship so moving and realistic that it is a tearjerker in the good sense. What I appreciate is that no character is perfect and everyone has done something they regret. Even the most optimistic and likable person cannot escape the tragedy that befalls this family but together can they pull through?

Family Communication Is A Must

Jin-sook and Sang-shirk had lived their lives in anger towards their partner simply because they have not clarified misunderstanding till they got old. Their children was also as communicable with them as they have felt their parents' animosity towards each other. When things were disclosed their lives had changed eventually.

Good Enough

" My Unfamiliar Family " had loads and loads of drama. One misfortune followed another, as we follow the 'misadventures' of a family with three grown up kids.

We are immediatly droped into their family life, at the time when the mother decides to graduate from her marriage, a decision that provoked a series of revealed secrets, dramas and revelations. We get to see what had happened and their relationships, as well as who's who through flashbacks, narrations and some recollections from the main characters. The way that all these were presented was quite interesting, actually, and made the drama pretty intense and exciting.

However, there were times when all these things that kept happening turned the story a bit stuffy and, thus, tiring. The romance was a slow burn love story, that, unfortunately, was rushed in the ending.

Other than that, the performances were top notch and the pacing matched the story perfectly.

So, overall, seven out of ten.

Hope

Excellent series that addresses family secrets that are gradually being revealed in the relationship between parents and children. Suffering, tragedy, past and present weaving the story of a family, their hurts, resentments, and the possibility of maturation and new bonds.

The coldest woman on earth...

This show is very slow paced but every moment is important. This is a family who cannot under any circumstances communicate. Seriously they all are the worst and jump to conclusions about absolutely everything all the time.

Somehow that's what makes this work. The only thing that completely destroyed it was the ice Queen older sister. Kudos to her for keeping completely expressionless 100% of the time, but honestly cracking a smile just once might have been nice. Laughing might have been better. She deserves the crap life she got being such a horrible, entitled cow with absolute disregard for everyone else 100% of the time.

Worth a watch, but it's slow. A bit predictable at times (but not in others) and has a good laugh with the second crazy sister. Who steals the whole show.

One of my best movie/drama of 2021

The starting and ending are nice family story type. The whole drama is nice smooth and touching at times.

It had reminded us of our past with our families, bravo!

I will give it 8.5 stars max. Its comparable quality to movie! Its very advisable to watch! I highly recommend it even few years later.

Slow, dragging and boring show

Although the theme of the story is good, the execution and the performance are subpar.

It is a pain to watch this family going back and forth with the same old, same old... the show just keeps dragging on and on, the same with the romance, the two characters just guess and joke, gauge and messing around and around it is truly a waste of time.

Not even one actors display any outstanding performance, maybe because the characters are too dull to execute/perform, they are all just going the motion and simply get the job done. Especially worst is the father with his constant pouting mouth (not cute if you are not handsome and young). The mother who has this constipation look at almost every scene.

Most of the characters are unlikable and hence, can't produce any empathy from viewers. What had happened to the arrogant eldest daughter should be a tearjerker and yet it is hard to find any sympathy for her. The only likable character in this show is the baby brother and the actor who plays the role actually has decent acting skill.

Overall, a subpar show and if you haven't started it, just don't.

Worst parts of Korean culture

Embarrassed watching this show. It makes Korean people look like terrible cowardly bigoted people. Please don't watch this garbage. It is really over the top and cringe worthy nonsense. I want my time back.

A blatantly weak life/family drama

This drama was a one big exhibition of petty fights with a lot of noise and little to no substance. These arguments and fights were the main driving element of the drama and it's important for it to be supported by a good dialogue. Unfortunately, nothing profound came out of any of them. Most of them were "fixed" by clearing misunderstandings from the past. It didn't feel it provided a real development and growth for these characters. Especially for repeated offenders. None of the characters/relationships were appealing. There was no place for romance but they insisted on shoving it in for the last 1/3 to pair everyone. They should've kept it about the family only. I didn't like how they ended most episodes with a scene that wasn't resumed until 15 minutes of the next episode.

I was expecting a proper "life" drama grounded to reality but shoving too many tropes ruined it (miscarriage, misunderstandings, amnesia, birth secret, illness, cheating, friends to lovers, hidden past, ex-spouse comes back ..etc). This is a melodrama in disguise!! There was one particular really stupid misunderstanding that lasted over 30 years. The writers weren't even trying! However, the worst part of the drama has to be all the scenes of Eun Hee talking about her love life with Chan Hyuk, these were mind numbing. This drama doesn't have much to offer other than some pretty visuals.
