Believed to be developed as a prototype based on the 2008 film "The Incredible Hulk", hence the title. Radical Entertainment previously developed "Hulk", based on the Ang Lee film and "The Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction". However, Sega owns the video game rights to the Marvel character and Radical Entertainment started to develop the title into an original IP, with gameplay mechanics similar to "Ultimate Destruction".
Prototype is the first game to feature Neural THX 7.1 channel sound.
