13 ’90s Shows That Flew Under the Radar (But You Can Stream Right Now)
Image
Every time you try to rewatch something from the ’90s, you’re either hit with a dead end or greeted by the usual suspects: Friends, The X-Files, Frasier, rinse, repeat.

But believe it or not, a bunch of lesser-known or long-forgotten series from the same era are available to stream — and some of them are actually worth the dive.

Others? They’re a beautiful mess. Either way, they all offer a slice of what the ’90s felt like: weirdly experimental, syndicated to hell, and somehow full of stars we either forgot or miss seeing on our screens.

(USA Network/Screenshot)

These shows might not be on every nostalgia list, but they ran for multiple seasons, had loyal followings, and still carry that unmistakable ’90s energy.

And the best part? You can actually find them (in full) right now.

Keanu Reeves’ 31-Year-Old Action Movie Was Pitched as “Tom Cruise joins the FBI” That Wanted Johnny Depp
Image
Keanu Reeves starred in the 1991 action movie Point Break, directed by Kathryn Bigelow. It features Reeves as FBI Agent Johnny Utah, who goes on an undercover mission to investigate the identities of a group of bank robbers, only to end up forming a complicated friendship with the group’s leader, Bodhi, played by Patrick Swayze.

According to Rick King, who co-wrote the movie’s story, he initially pitched the concept as Tom Cruise joining the FBI. Moreover, the project was initially conceived under a different director with Johnny Depp among the young actors considered for the lead role. Here is what Point Break could have been without Keanu Reeves.

Why the Director of the New ‘Naked Gun’ Felt Compelled to Include O.J. Jokes
Image
The Naked Gun is hardly the first beloved ‘80s comedy to get the Hollywood reboot treatment, there was also Vacation, Coming 2 America and several new additions to the Ghostbusters franchise. And while those movies likely had their fair share of challenges to deal with, it’s not like Chevy Chase, Eddie Murphy or Dan Aykroyd ever went on trial for first-degree murder.

The original Naked Gun trilogy, on the other hand, famously featured football star, accused murderer and one-time prank show host O.J. Simpson as Frank Drebin’s best friend and partner, Officer Nordberg.

In retrospect, it’s pretty weird that Simpson, who was ultimately acquitted of all murder charges, has a prominent role in one of the funniest movies of all-time. But rather than avoiding the issue, the new Naked Gun movie immediately let us know that O.J. jokes were on the table.

The reboot’s first teaser...

Solo: A Star Wars Story isn’t as bad as you remember
Image
There’s a scene in Solo: A Star Wars Story—mid-train heist, snow flying, chaos erupting—where Han quite literally fumbles his way into being the hero. It’s clumsy and unexpectedly heartfelt, much like the movie itself.

Released in 2018 under the shadow of a very public director swap, Disney’s franchise fatigue, and the internet’s inability to let go of Harrison Ford, Solo never really had a fair shot. It grossed $393 million globally, making it the lowest-earning live-action Star Wars film, thus earning it the dreaded “flop” label.

However, box office numbers rarely tell the whole story. Solo isn’t actually a bad movie. In fact, it’s a lot more fun than most people give it credit for.

Solo hit theaters a mere five months after The Last Jedi, Rian Johnson’s film that split the fandom more violently than a lightsaber through a Praetorian Guard.

Image
Following a wildly successful rap career, Ice Cube has become one of the most notable names in Hollywood and a classic franchise where he plays the lead character is now available to stream in its entirety. Ice Cube made his feature film acting debut with a great performance in Boyz n the Hood, but branched out to comedy soon after.

That venture into comedic roles paid dividends for Ice Cube. Most of his highest-grossing films are in that genre including Are We There Yet? and 21 Jump Street. He portrays the lead character in two comedy trilogies, including Barbershop, but his initial comedy series can now be watched on Peacock ahead of its fourth movie.

‘Project Hail Mary’ Trailer: Ryan Gosling Blasts Off Into Space to Save Earth in Phil Lord and Christopher Miller’s Sci-Fi Comedy
Image
Ryan Gosling is heading to space in the first trailer for “Project Hail Mary.”

The comedic sci-fi film from Amazon MGM Studios follows Gosling, whose character makes a leap from unassuming teacher to an astronaut assigned to a risky space mission. The “Barbie” star appears opposite Sandra Hüller (“Anatomy of a Fall”), who convinces Gosling’s character to launch himself into space to save humanity.

“It’s an insanely ambitious story that’s massive in scope, and it seemed really hard to make, and that’s kind of our bag,” Gosling said about the film at CinemaCon. “This is why we go to the movies. And I’m not just saying it because I’m in it. I’m also saying it because I’m a producer on the film.”

Based on the Andy Weir novel of the same name, the film was directed by “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse” filmmakers Phil Lord and Christopher Miller.

Ryan Gosling's Project Hail Mary Blasts Off With First Poster Reveal
Image
Project Hail Mary, the eagerly awaited film adaptation of Andy Weir’s best-selling novel, tells the story of a humble high school science teacher who becomes humanity’s last hope during a critical interstellar mission.

In 2020, before Amazon acquired the studio, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer secured the rights to the book in a hotly contested bidding war. The deal, reportedly valued at $3 million, was made even before the novel had been published.

Ryan Gosling leads the film as the unlikely hero, a man pulled from an ordinary life as a science teacher and thrust into deep space to confront a crisis that threatens the survival of Earth itself.

If the adaptation follows the structure of the novel, viewers can expect a nonlinear narrative. The story begins with Gosling’s character awakening aboard a spacecraft, alone and disoriented, millions of miles from home, with only fragments of memory to guide him.

To build excitement ahead of its release,...

Johnny Depp talks getting back into the spotlight and looking to the future
Amber Heard
Years after the infamous trial between him and his ex, Amber Heard, Johnny Depp is weaving his way back onto the big screen. His next project is Modi, Three Days on the Wings of Madness. The actor doesn’t actually appear in the film, but he directed it, his first time behind the camera in over twenty years. The project is a biopic of Italian artist Amedeo Modigliani and is based on Dennis McIntyre’s play Modigliani. Then, he will reunite with Penélope Cruz for Day Drinker, a thriller for Lionsgate and directed by Marc Webb (The Amazing Spider-Man). This will be Depp’s first major Hollywood feature since the trials.

While Jerry Bruckheimer deals with how to handle the Depp situation for the upcoming Pirates of the Caribbean installments, Depp talks with The Sunday Times about his career and life going forward. Whatever you call his new projects, don’t call it a comeback.

‘I Was So Miserable’: Johnny Depp Candidly Reflects on the Role That Made Him a Star
Image
Johnny Depp has been one of Hollywood's most world-renowned actors for decades, especially since taking on the role of Captain Jack Sparrow in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise. The associated fame is not something he's ever been thrilled about, however, as he can still remember feeling "miserable" when he noticed how people treated him differently once he became a star.

Back in 1984, Depp landed a role in the horror film A Nightmare on Elm Street after he was encouraged to audition by Nicolas Cage, who was a friend of his then-wife. At the time, Depp was planning to have a career in music, but the success of the Freddy Krueger film led to other casting opportunities. Soon after, he was cast in the role of an undercover cop in a high school for the TV series 21 Jump Street. This role established Depp as a leading man, but the...

7 Charming Movies Like ‘Deep Cover’ to Watch Next
Image
“Deep Cover” is one of the more underrated films of the year so far. Quietly released in mid-June on Amazon’s Prime Video, the British action comedy follows a trio of improv actors who are recruited by the police to go undercover and infiltrate a dangerous criminal gang. “Deep Cover” has a lot of fun stretching its absurd premise as far as it can go. It is charming, light on its feet and deserving of more publicity and promotion than it has so far received.

If you are one of the viewers who has been charmed by it, here are seven movies like “Deep Cover” that you should watch next.

Dustin Nguyen Left Hollywood to Build a Film Career in Vietnam — Now He’s Back, and Says ‘Dope Thief’ Is One of the Best Things He’s Ever Done
Image
For those of us who grew up watching Dustin Nguyen on “21 Jump Street,” seeing him back on our TV screens in recent years — most recently on Apple TV+’s “Dope Thief” — has been akin to reconnecting with an old friend. So where has Nguyen been, and how did he make his way back to Hollywood?

Turns out Nguyen had been building a busy and successful film career in Vietnam, where he had born but left as a teen (with his family in 1975 after the fall of Saigon). He first returned to the country to shoot the 2007 Vietnamese language film “The Rebel”— which became a huge blockbuster there.

“People were saying, ‘hey, you should come back here and be a part of this renaissance with the movie industry,” Nguyen recalls. “I made a decision to just move and hope for the best. I opened a production company there, and I...

‘21 Jump Street’ Cast: What Are They Doing in 2025?
Image
It’s been over a decade since 21 Jump Street turned undercover high school chaos into pure comedy gold. Honestly, who can even forget Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill as the world’s least discreet “teenagers”, busting drug rings while failing gym class? This 2012 reboot took a ridiculous premise, cranked it to 11, and gave us ice cube glares, nonstop laughs, and a prom shootout for the ages.

Though Schmidt and Jenko have long since graduated, the cast didn’t exactly disappear into detention. Nope. In fact, they’ve been busier than ever, snagging Oscar nominations, directing surprise hits, dropping rap albums, and even returning to superhero land.

Whether they played bad-boy dealers, science nerds, or deadpan police captains, the 21 Jump Street crew has had one wild post-grad journey. So, let’s grab the notebooks and fake IDs, because we’re going to see what the iconic cast is up to in 2025, and yes,...

Russell Crowe & Ryan Gosling's Underrated Action Comedy With 91% Rt Audience Score Gets Disappointing Sequel Update
Image
Critical acclaim failed to boost The Nice Guys' run at the box office, partly because it was released to unfortunate circumstances. Director Shane Black said that's just one of his hurdles in having the sequel film greenlit.

Director Shane Black said The Nice Guys 2 is still a long shot; it's hard to find a studio that's willing to bankroll the project. "That's the problem, is you're gonna present something that the actors have to agree to, that's a good script, and that is going to be very expensive," he explained in an interview (per /Film), "and the studio's going to say, 'Well, didn't the last one sort of bomb at the theaters?' And you say, 'Yeah, but we want you to spend twice as much on this one anyway to get everyone back.'"

The Nice Guys grossed $11.3 million on its opening weekend, exceeding projections, but it trailed behind...

‘How to Train Your Dragon’ Cast and Character Guide: Animated vs. Live-Action
Image
The live-action remake of “How to Train Your Dragon” is here, bringing fan favorite characters to real life. But let’s not forget, the original cast was pretty stacked.

The good news for fans of the original is that the story is largely the same, staying faithful to the animated favorite thanks to Dean DeBlois returning to write and direct. It brings fans to the Isle of Berk, where Vikings and dragons battle constantly — at least until one young Viking realizes maybe they shouldn’t be.

Here’s how the live-action version compares to the animated cast.

In the original film, Hiccup was voiced by “This Is the End” and “The Sorcerer’s Apprentice” star Jay Baruchel. In the live-action version, he’s played by Mason Thames, who played Finney in “The Black Phone.” Thames has also appeared in episodes...

Film Review: Future Date (2024) by Stanley Wong
Image
This review may contain spoilers.

It’s clear that modern-day dating is cursed, but future dating? Seasoned actor Stanley Wong (“The Big Short” (2015), “21 Jump Street” (2012)) speculates that we will be no different in the hereafter with his directorial debut, “Future Date”. “Future Date” covered modest ground during its festival run, taking home the Audience Award for Best Narrative Feature at the Asian American International Film Festival, in addition to nominations at three others.

Future Date review is part of the Submit Your Film Initiative

“Future Date” takes place in the Los Angeles of tomorrow, where the outdoor climate is unlivable and most of its citizens spend their lives within the claustrophobic confines of their studio apartments. Here, Wong plays himself as Ry, a bespectacled boy obsessed with finding “the one” through Connektr, a virtual dating app. He learns about a pilot program where select contestants can live in a...

The Audition Johnny Depp Calls His Worst Ever— Why It Still Haunts Him Today?
Image
Johnny Depp’s Worst Audition Ever(Photo Credit –Instagram)

Johnny Depp never found joy in the Hollywood audition process. It was never the red carpets or the money that thrilled him about making it big, but it was finally being free from auditions. Why? Because he absolutely loathed them and always had. For Johnny Depp, the idea of being judged in a cold, quiet room by emotionless faces didn’t sit well, as he saw acting as a deeper form of connection.

A Flu Gave Johnny Depp His Breakthrough Role

Depp admitted he was terrible at auditions in his early years. He couldn’t force himself to perform for a panel of strangers staring blankly, and the environment made everything he believed about acting feel artificial.

“I was a young idiot,” Johnny Depp remembered at the AFI Festival in 2015, per Far Out Magazine. “I recognised that this process really had...

California Is Doubling Its Film Incentive, but It May Be Too Late to Stop Runaway Production
Image
“Mad Men” was set in 1960s New York, but it was mostly filmed at a studio just west of downtown Los Angeles. Sienna DeGovia was one of hundreds of people who worked on the show. Someone needed to re-create the food of that era, like savory Jell-Os and the carrots cut into one-inch cubes that used to be served on airplanes, and that’s what she does — she’s a food stylist. She started as an assistant 25 years ago and after learning the craft, became a lead stylist.

Los Angeles is full of weird jobs like that — or at least it used to be. But content production peaked in 2022, and the world’s entertainment capital has since been battered by a global contraction.

“The beginning of 2024, everything fell off a cliff,” DeGovia says. “I called all my old mentors and begged to be taken on as an assistant. I never...

Diller Speaks: Hollywood’s Most Fearsome Legend Bares His Soul
Image
Barry Diller has one request before settling in on his living room sofa for a two-and-a-half-hour interview about the juicy revelations in his new tell-all memoir, Who Knew. “Don’t write about my house,” he says. “Don’t describe the decor.”

Photographed by Daniel Prakopcyk

Consider it done. No mention here of the serene, unostentatious Beverly Hills mansion tucked behind a gate, the site of his annual Oscar party. Not a word about the furnishings, some of them chosen by his late friend Sandy Gallin — the manager to Michael Jackson and Dolly Parton and charter member of what Mike Ovitz once dickishly derided as the “velvet mafia.” Color schemes? Fabric choices? Forget it. This is a safe space.

Everything else, though, is fair game. Diller’s marriage to Diane von Furstenberg. His romantic entanglements with men over the years. His close alliances and bitter battles with Hollywood legends from David Geffen...

Stephen J. Cannell
Wiseguy: Jonathan Banks reprising his role from the ’80s TV series for a new feature film
Stephen J. Cannell
Stephen J. Cannell created or co-created a whole lot of popular TV shows, including The Rockford Files, The A-Team, Renegade, The Greatest American Hero, 21 Jump Street, and The Commish. Somewhere in the mix was the crime drama series Wiseguy, which Cannell co-created with Frank Lupo. That show aired on CBS for a total of 75 episodes over four seasons, running from 1987 to the end of 1990… and industry scooper Jeff Sneider of TheInSneider.com hears that it’s getting a feature film revival, with Jonathan Banks (who is best known these days for playing hitman and fixer Mike Ehrmantraut on Breaking Bad) on board to reprise his role from the original series!

Sneider’s sources inform him that The Pope’s Exorcist producers Sophie Cassidy and Jeff Katz are joining forces with Stephen J. Cannell Productions to bring the Wiseguy movie to the screen. In case you need a refresher, the...

J.J. Abrams is producing a new horror film that includes the star of Captain Marvel, the director of Strange Darling, and the writer of No One Will Save You. The Cannes Film Festival is currently underway, and while many films playing at the festival are looking for buyers or distributors, the festival is also known for when major deals are struck on future potential projects. It was recently confirmed that a John Rambo prequel film was being shopped around at the festival, and now J.J. Abrams is launching what sounds like an exciting new spin on the creature feature, with some big names already attached.

Image
Brie Larson is going from Marvel to monster. The MCU star will play the lead — and the creature — in Fail-Safe, a new horror film from producer J.J. Abrams. Deadline reports that the film is set to be directed by Strange Darling's Jt Mollner.

Fail-Safe will be told from the perspective of a young boy who comes to realize that his loving parents are hiding something from him...and that his mother (Larson) has a big, terrifying secret. The title comes from a special panic room in their house which contains her during her transformations. It is based on a 2017 short story of the same name by Philip Fracassi, which will be adapted for the screen by Brian Duffield (No One Will Save You). Seth Rogen on “Specifically” Writing Dave Franco’s Role in ‘The Studio’ for the Actor
Image
Seth Rogen was very particular when it came to writing and crafting the characters in The Studio.

The star and co-creator of the Apple TV+ series recently shared with People why he “specifically” wrote Dave Franco’s role and multi-episode storyline for the actor. In the show, Franco plays a fictionalized version of himself as a Hollywood action star and wild party animal.

“Honestly, there were very few people that could have filled the roles that the people had filled because we really specifically were catering the stories to certain traits that celebrities have,” Rogen said of creating the 21 Jump Street actor’s storyline.

The Studio follows a legacy Hollywood movie studio striving to survive in a world where it is increasingly difficult for art and business to live together, with Rogen playing the new head of the fictional Continental Studios. The series has featured several celebrity cameos, as...

How The Original Whiplash Star Felt About Being Replaced By Miles Teller
Image
Many years later, 2014's "Whiplash" stands out as one of the defining motion pictures of the 2010s. Damien Chazelle's masterclass of a psychological character drama telling the story of a young, ambitious jazz drummer, Andrew Neiman (Miles Teller), butting heads with his abusive instructor, Terence Fletcher (J.K. Simmons), was not the biggest box office success story on its initial release. Still, its legacy has endured thanks to an ever-growing audience that discovered it via DVD, Blu-ray, and streaming. The film was also nominated for five Academy Awards and won three, with Simmons, in particular, taking home the gold for his supporting turn as one of the greatest villains in cinematic history.

What many may not realize, however, is that Chazelle's movie is itself based on "Whiplash," the short film of the same name that the filmmaker had made just a year prior. The 18-minute short was the first iteration...

A primary reason behind Yellowstone‘s immense success was its memorable characters. Besides the leading names, some minor characters have also left an indelible mark on the fans’ minds. Taylor Sheridan’s Western TV hit featured a complex web of characters and their family trees. It is tough to keep a check on the number of people driving the story. However, Cowboy was such a character who, even after his brief role, could steal the spotlight.

Channing Tatum movies: 17 greatest films ranked worst to best
Image
Channing Tatum, a natural athlete who found that college was not to his liking, moved to Tampa in his teens to work construction and found an outside gig as a male stripper at night. To Tatum's credit, he never denied his stripping gig but instead turned it into artistic gold (years after he became an actor) with a hit franchise you may have heard about: "Magic Mike" (2012), "Magic Mike Xxl" (2015) and "Magic Mike's Last Dance" (2023).

After being discovered by a talent scout, Tatum started his career with small movie parts until he snagged the lead in "Step Up," (2006), a successful dance/romance mash-up. Tatum's looks and athleticism, as well as his dancing and acting skills attracted casting directors, who began to place him in bigger and bigger films.

With Tatum's skills, that led to films with better and better directors, a list that any actor would envy -- Michael Mann...

Channing Tatum Felt Traumatised After Gambit Was Shelved & Admitted He Avoided Watching Marvel Films For Years
Image
Channing Tatum Gambit Trauma (Photo Credit – Instagram)

For Channing Tatum, Marvel movies weren’t just entertainment, they were a reminder of what could’ve been. The actor once poured years of passion and effort into a solo Gambit film, only to watch it crumble. And that sting stuck around.

“I haven’t been able to see any of the [Marvel] movies [since],” Tatum told Variety back in 2022. “I loved that character. It was just too sad. It was like losing a friend because I was so ready to play him.”

That heartbreak started way back in 2014. Tatum had been cast as Gambit, the smooth-talking, card-slinging mutant from the X-Men universe. The plan? Introduce him in X-Men: Apocalypse and follow it up with a solo film. But the rollout never happened.

Liam Neeson's Naked Gun Reboot Trailer Delivers The Ultimate Oj Simpson Joke
Image
While audiences might be getting sick of sequels, remakes, and reboots, there's at least one coming to theaters this summer that we're actually looking forward to. "The Naked Gun" franchise is being revived with Liam Neeson taking on the role of Frank Debin Jr., son of Leslie Nielsen's Detective Frank Drebin from the original "Naked Gun" spoof trilogy of films that spawned from the short-lived comedy series "Police Squad!"

While reviving old comedy franchises can be rather risky, "The Naked Gun" comes with a promising filmmaker behind the camera, one who hasn't found much box office success but has consistently delivered some of the greatest comedies of the 21st century. Akiva Shaffer, one-third of the groundbreaking "Saturday Night Live" comedy group known as The Lonely Island, who ushered in the era of the "SNL Digital Short," is directing the film, having previously been at helm of "Hot Rod" (which...

Extended ‘Project Hail Mary’ trailer screens at CinemaCon: Ryan Gosling tries to save the universe for Lord and Miller
Image
Amazon MGM Studios started its inaugural CinemaCon presentation with a bang: the first trailer for Project Hail Mary, a new science-fiction feature from directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller with Ryan Gosling in the lead role.

The movie is based on the 2021 novel by Andy Weir (The Martian) with a script from Drew Goddard. As revealed in the trailer — and likely familiar to anyone who has read Weir’s best-selling book — Gosling stars as Ryland Grace, a schoolteacher-turned-astronaut sent on a longshot mission to save the planet as the sun begins to die. Ryland, the lone survivor of the trip, eventually comes face-to-face with an alien who similarly wants to save the universe.

The trailer, set to Harry Styles’s “Sign of the Times,” showcased Lord and Miller’s bold vision and blended science-fiction spectacle and future dread straight out of Interstellar with Ridley Scott's The Martian—not a...

Ryan Gosling Plays a Nerdy Scientist on a Suicidal Space Mission in ‘Project Hail Mary’ CinemaCon Trailer: ‘I Put the Not in Astronaut’
Image
Ryan Gosling, looking very nerdy and quite un-Ken-like, plays a science teacher turned grudging astronaut in “Project Hail Mary,” a sci-fi adventure that Amazon MGM Studios teased during its presentation to theater owners at CinemaCon on Wednesday.

“I put the ‘not’ in astronaut,” Gosling tells the government handler (Sandra Hüller) who has tapped him to undertake a suicidal space mission. “I can’t even moonwalk.”

The film, an adaptation of Andy Weir’s best-selling novel of the same name, follows an ordinary man who is told he has what it takes to go into the outer reaches of the universe. “You have the right stuff,” Gosling tells Hüller. “I have the wrong stuff.”

He may be reluctant, but the situation is dire. A catastrophic event threatens life as he knows it. “The world is counting on you,” Hüller tells him.

The trailer that Amazon MGM Studios shared shows Gosling and his small team in space,...

"Bye Felicia": Ice Cube Is Back as Craig Jones With 'Last Friday'
Image
The Friday franchise has just been revived more than 20 years after the last movie was released. New Line President and Cco Richard Brener confirmed in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter that Ice Cube had reached a deal to write and star in Last Friday, which will directly follow Friday After Next (2002). Ice Cube mentioned last summer that he was pushing for another Friday movie to get made, but that he wasn’t making any ground convincing Warner Bros. that it was worthwhile. There is no word on if Chris Tucker, Mike Epps, or John Witherspoon are attached to star. It is also unknown at this time who will direct the film, and additional casting is ongoing. Last Friday also has no official release date at this time.

The first Friday movie hit theaters in 1995 and was an instant hit. The film earned scores of 77% from critics and 91% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes,...
