“Percy Jackson and the Olympians” showrunners Jonathan E. Steinberg and Dan Shotz are in talks to write, showrun and produce a live-action “Power Rangers” series for Disney+ and 20th Century TV, TheWrap has exclusively learned.
Hasbro will produce the series, which will reinvent the franchise for a whole new generation of fans while delighting those who already know and love the world of Power Rangers.
The ’90s TV show, originally called “The Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers,” was inspired by a Japanese children’s show, “Super Sentai” (even using footage from that show). It featured five teenagers who gain the ability to “morph” into superheroes known as the Power Rangers, complete with their own mech fighters. A film version of the series that starred most of the original cast was released in 1995, with a second one in 1997 (this one featured only a few original cast members).

The first season of Percy Jackson and the Olympians, about a young boy's self-discovery after finding out he's the son of a Greek god, wrapped up in early 2024. Now, Disney executive Ayo Davis has finally revealed that we'll be watching new episodes in December.
The second season will adapt The Sea of Monsters, the second book in author Rick Riordan's Percy Jackson's series. What's more, Deadline reports that Disney has renewed the show for a third season! Season 3 will be based on the third book in the series, The Titan’s Curse. This officially means that the TV show will get to adapt more of the books than the Percy Jackson movies did when they were coming out in the early 2010s; the movies got as far as The Sea of Monsters before getting cut of.

Disney's adaptation of Rick Riordan's Percy Jackson series was truly an unexpected delight for many fans. The beloved book series made it from the page to a Disney+ original in 2023, but of course, just about anything would have been better than the lackluster films.
Say what you might about some of Disney's adaptations, but its track record for book-to-screen projects is pretty solid. Right on the heels of The Lightning Thief, the studio green-lights book three's adaptation before season two even hits Disney+.
Percy Jackson: The Titan's Curse gets the go-ahead from Disney
Percy, Annabeth, Grover, and a whole pantheon of gods and monsters are on their way back for more adventures, but Disney isn't just stopping at a retelling of The Odyssey in season 2. Instead, the House of Mouse is conspiring with the Fates to look further into the future.

The hit series ‘Percy Jackson and the Olympians’ on Disney+ is coming back for a third season. I heard from Disney Branded Television and 20th Television that they made the call to keep the story going, and it’s all happening before the second season even drops this December.

Disney+ has announced an early renewal for Percy Jackson and the Olympians, confirming a third season before the second season has aired. The decision reflects confidence in the adaptation of Rick Riordan’s book series, which has been one of the most successful original shows on the streaming platform.
Season 2, which wrapped production in January, is scheduled to premiere in December, two years after the first season debuted. The renewal of Season 3 allows the creative team to continue developing the series without major delays, an approach that co-showrunner Jonathan E. Steinberg has emphasized as a priority.
“Part of wanting to keep the process going is trying to do whatever we can to be ready for it and to know how to have the conversations and to have a plan,” Steinberg said in a recent interview.

This third season will be new territory for the screen, bringing fan favorites like the Hunters of Artemis and Nico di Angelo to life for the first time,” Riordan said. “It’s a huge sign of commitment from Disney, and speaks volumes about the enthusiasm with which the fandom has embraced the TV show. The Lord of the Rings is one of the most iconic and beloved fantasy franchises of all time. That might sound cliché, but there are few more accurate ways to describe this legendary franchise. From Tolkien's masterful novels to Peter Jackson's epic films to Prime Video's fantasy drama series, The Rings of Power, it's safe to say that The Lord of the Rings dominates the fantasy genre at every turn.
The Lord of the Rings might be one of the first series that comes to mind when thinking about epic fantasy media, but it's far from the only good example of the genre. The Rings of Power has some serious competition, especially with television series like Game of Thrones, Loki, and The Boys ongoing or in recent memory. This list will cover 10 television series that are so good that Lord of the Rings fans will probably love them.

The first season of Percy Jackson and the Olympians premiered on Disney+ in late 2023, telling the story of how young Percy (Walker Scobell) finds out he's actually the son of Greek god of the ocean Poseidon. That season covered the first book in author Rick Riordan's epic fantasy series, The Lightning Thief. The upcoming second season will cover the second book, The Sea of Monsters.
There are five books in Riordan's original Percy Jackson series, plus two more than came out later and explore what Percy and his friends are up to after they've grown up a bit. Everyone wants to see this series make it all the way to the end, but when a show has this many special effects, is this expensive, and takes this long to make, that's not guaranteed.

For most of American television history, viewers could expect long-running shows to release new episodes incredibly frequently. I Love Lucy, for instance, never had even six months off the air between seasons. The same can be said for other top shows throughout the decades, which aired a new season air every year on a fairly strict September-through-May schedule.
This regularity is precisely why American fans joked about how long they had to wait for new seasons of Sherlock when it was airing, as the two-year gaps seemed excruciatingly long. However, that structure, which is more normal across the pond, is now becoming the standard in the States as well. It doesn't seem to matter how many episodes are in the series or what genre it is; new seasons of TV are taking a long time to make.

We still have a fair amount of waiting to do before Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 2 makes its premiere on Disney+ later this year, but fans will be over the moon to learn that we're already learning about a potential third season. The book series' author and the show's creator and writer Rick Riordan shared an unexpected update that will have you jumping up and down.

We will be getting the second season of Percy Jackson and the Olympians at some point in the future, and we are excited about the adaptation of the second book in Rick Riordan's book series, The Sea of Monsters. Starring Walker Scobell as the titular character, Percy Jackson, the first season chronicled the events of the first novel, The Lightning Thief, with the Disney+ series earning a strong 91% score from critics and a 79% rating from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes. While the second season is yet to premiere, it wouldn't be amiss for some sections of the fanbase to have their heads already turned towards a third season. If you are part of that group, author and executive producer Riordan has some good news for you.

TV adaptations of popular novels and book series can become some of the best and most critically acclaimed television series. Shows like Game of Thrones, You and Bridgerton adapted different book series and quickly became cultural phenomenons. Other shows like Bosch, The Sinner and Sherlock have turned crime books into critically acclaimed crime dramas and procedural series. It's safe to say that TV adaptations of novels and book series won't go away any time soon. And in 2025, fans have many adaptations to look forward to.
There are a lot of book adaptations expected for 2025. While many book adaptations are set to debut on the big screen, fans of TV shows will be happy to know many book adaptations are coming to the small screen as well. Fans who enjoy reading a book before watching a movie or TV show adaptation might have a lot of homework to do this year.

Walker Scobell, the young star of ‘Percy Jackson and the Olympians,’ was honored with the Rising Star Award at TVfest, recognizing his impressive performance as Percy Jackson. During an interview, Scobell shared his excitement about a major moment in Season 2, teasing an action-packed episode that fans won’t want to miss.
Scobell revealed that Episode 4 will feature an intense encounter with Charybdis and Scylla, two legendary monsters from Greek mythology. These creatures are known from Homer’s Odyssey, where they terrorized sailors trying to navigate treacherous waters. The inclusion of these iconic beasts suggests that’ Percy Jackson’ Season 2 will continue to raise the stakes with high-intensity action sequences and breathtaking visuals.

Rick Riordan's first Percy Jackson novel, "The Lightning Thief," was first published in 2005, riding on a wave of ultra-popular young adult fantasy literature that persists to this day. One can easily see that the "Percy Jackson & the Olympians" books lift a lot of ideas from J.K. Rowling's blockbuster Harry Potter novels and follow a lot of the same story beats. Both were about young men who, while living unhappy lives among the hoi polloi, discover they actually possess royal blood. Their previously unknown lineages allow them access to worlds of magic and/or deities, which they are able to explore through either a wizards' boarding school (in Harry Potter) or a demigod summer camp (in Percy Jackson).

Walker Scobell, who plays Percy in Percy Jackson and the Olympians, says the second season will make that very clear when it arrives on Disney+ later this year. The upcoming season adapts Sea of Monsters, the second book in Rick Riordan’s bestselling series. But things will feel a little different, and not just because of the story.
Scobell, who was 12 when he was cast, is now 16. He’s taller, his voice is deeper, and he admits that staying true to Percy’s young character while growing up himself has been a challenge.
‘It’s weird playing the same characters we were at 12 when now we’re so much older,’ he shared during Scad TVfest 2025 in Atlanta, where he was honored with the Rising Star Award.
Despite these changes, the season wastes no time picking up the action. Scobell promises ‘a lot more action than last season’ and says the pace never slows down.

Universal Pictures has debuted a teaser trailer for the highly anticipated sequel ‘M3gan 2.0.
Two years after M3GAN, a marvel of artificial intelligence, went rogue and embarked on a murderous (and impeccably choreographed) rampage and was subsequently destroyed, M3GAN’s creator Gemma (Allison Williams) has become a high-profile author and advocate for government oversight of A.I. Meanwhile, Gemma’s niece Cady (Violet McGraw), now 14, has become a teenager, rebelling against Gemma’s overprotective rules.
Unbeknownst to them, the underlying tech for M3GAN has been stolen and misused by a powerful defence contractor to create a military-grade weapon known as Amelia, the ultimate killer infiltration spy. New fans of the Percy Jackson and The OlympiansDisney+TV show may be in for a surprise about how emotional and at times depressing the series can be. This is especially true if they decide to turn to the source material, a series of novels, and uncover some moments that may not have been adapted for live-action yet in the Disney+ series or the film adaptations of The Lightning Thief and The Sea of Monsters. Logan Lerman could see a future for himself on Percy Jackson and the Olympians... again.
Per TikTok, IMDb interviewed Lerman about his role in 20th Century Fox's ill-fated Percy Jackson movies and whether he'd be interested in making a cameo in the Disney+ series alongside new Percy actor Walker Scobell. "Yeah, of course," he said, adding, "I mean, that hasn't, you know, no conversation's happened. But yeah, I mean, yeah why not?" Lerman also discussed his positive relationship with Percy Jackson's TV cast, describing Scobell as "like a friend. We talk and text from time to time, and they're really, you know, sweet group of kids. Really talented and yeah, nice people."
