The proposed fourth film in the Chronicles of Narnia film franchise, The Silver Chair, never saw the light of day. A variety of factors led to the film's untimely cancelation, including stiff competition at the box office and its place in the franchise as a whole. However, a revival of the Narnia films headed by Greta Gerwig may reignite interest in the franchise.
The Chronicles of Narnia is a series of seven books written by C.S. Lewis, one that built a vast mythology with a richly defined world, with characters that could rival that of his friend and peer J.R.R Tolkien's Middle Earth series. At the heart of the series lies Narnia, a mystical fantasy world brimming with curious creatures, that is explored by the four even more curious Pevensie children: Lucy, Edmund, Susan, and Peter. Their adventures take them throughout Narnia as more of the unusual otherworld is revealed to them.

A John Krasinski-produced movie about a fugitive billionaire has found its director in Peter Landesman.
Sources tell Variety that the “Concussion” writer-helmer is on board to direct the long-gestating movie, which is based on Daniel Ammann’s biography “The King of Oil: The Secret Lives of Marc Rich.” The film tells the story of the international commodities trader and founder of Glencore, who was indicted in the U.S. on 65 criminal counts that included tax evasion, wire fraud, racketeering and striking deals for oil with Iran during the Iran hostage crisis.
Rich had already fled the U.S. for Switzerland and never returned, but famously received a pardon in 2001 from then President Bill Clinton on his last day in office. Children of the 2000s may have grown up with the three live-action movies produced between 2005-2008 and anyone of any generation may have read C.S. Lewis’ classic novels as a kid, but a new version of The Chronicles of Narnia is on the way. Netflix acquired the rights to adapt the seven fantasy books back in 2018 and immediately announced their plans to create new TV series and films based on the world of Narnia.
So, what have we learned about the company’s intentions for the franchise since then? Out of all the potential literary franchises that started appearing with increasing regularity to try and cash in on the success of The Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter during the early years of the 21st Century, it appeared for a while as though The Chronicles of Narnia was one of the few destined for any sort of continued success.
The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe was a huge hit, becoming one of the highest-grossing movies of 2005 after raking in $745 million at the box office, but despite spawning two sequels, the adaptations of C.S. Lewis’ fantasy series never managed to recapture those heights. Both Prince Caspian and The Voyage of the Dawn Treader earned over $300 million less than the opening installment, and any plans for further adventures in Narnia were ultimately shelved.

Disney's Honey, I Shrunk the Kids sequel has its sights set on a familiar filmmaker to take the reigns. It's come to light that Joe Johnston, who made his directorial debut with the original 1989 family-friendly classic, is being courted to come back to the franchise a full three decades later to direct Shrunk. Josh Gad is set to star in the lead role.
According to a new report, Joe Johnston is in negotiations to direct Shrunk. His deal hasn't closed yet, but things seem to be heading in the right direction. The movie came together as a result of a pitch made by Josh Gad. The actor will play a grown-up version of Nick Szalinski, the son of Rick Moranis' character, Wayne Szalinski from the original. Gad will reportedly follow in his father's footsteps by becoming a scientist who also ends up shrinking his kids. Disney is said to have met with other filmmakers,...

Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely are franchise guys, and happily so. The screenwriters behind six Marvel Cinematic Universe films — including this week’s much-anticipated new release “Avengers: Infinity War” and its upcoming untitled 2019 sequel, plus all three “Captain America” films — first broke into Hollywood with their “Chronicles of Narnia” films, scripting three different franchise entries before the series sputtered out after 2010’s low-earning “The Voyage of the Dawn Treader.”
While Markus and McFeely are no longer on the “Narnia” beat, the beloved C.S. Lewis series is still in the Hollywood mix, and rumors of a “Silver Chair” film adaptation have persisted since October 2013, when the film rights were purchased by the Mark Gordon Company (the original films were made by Walden Media). Screenwriter David Magee was set to write the screenplay, and director Joe Johnston came on board in April 2017.

Disney's The Nutcracker and the Four Realms is undergoing some significant reshoots, with director Joe Johnston being brought on to take the helm of these additional scenes. While, lately, a move like this is often a sign that the original director was fired, that isn't the case here, with this new report claiming original director Lasse Hallstrom simply cannot direct the reshoots due to scheduling conflicts. Lasse Hallstrom is not being "sidelined" by this move, and he will still be involved in the post-production process.
Fans who attended Disney's D23 Expo this summer got the first glimpse at The Nutcracker and the Four Realms, with Disney showcasing the first Nutcracker and the Four Realms footage while announcing a November 2, 2018 release date. The D23 Expo presentation featured Los Angeles-based dancer Lil Buck, who hit the stage to demonstrate the kind of street dancing called jookin that informed the way his character moves in the film.

Disney and Lucasfilm are moving quickly to replace Lord and Miller on Star Wars: Han Solo, and Ron Howard's stepped in...
Update: Unsurprisingly, Disney-Lucasfilm haven't wasted any time in replacing Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, who were let go from the production of the forthcoming Star Wars spin off based on Han Solo earlier this week.
Reports circled at the time that director Ron Howard was in talks to take on the troubled project, and The Hollywood Reporter is now saying that Howard has formally signed up. Lucasfilm haven't made an official announcement about the deal yet, but THR adds that a statement is due to be put out on Thursday morning, Los Angeles time.
In fact, since we first wrote the paragraphs above, Ron Howard has sent the following Tweet, confirming he's taking the job...
I hope to honor the great work already done & help deliver on the promise of a Han Solo film.
— Ron Howard (@RealRonHoward) June 22, 2017
Lord and Miller had already shot approximately five months worth of footage at the time of their departure, and with the shoot nearing completion, it's not currently clear how much more work there is to do on the as-yet untitled Han Solo movie. The word is that the producers' vision for the film didn't align with Lord and Miller's (both parties cited "creative differences" for their break-up); Howard's job will, therefore, presumably be to bring the existing film closer to Lucasfilm's expectations.
Whether the movie will still meet its 25th May 2018 release date is also currently unclear; as ever, we'll bring you more on this as we get it.
Our original story follows...
Lucasfilm is looking to move fast to fill the director’s chair on Star Wars: Han Solo, following the shock decision to fire Christopher Miller and Phil Lord from the movie. The pair left the movie earlier this week, and creative differences have been strongly cited from all sides. It sounds like that may be the case too.
In terms of who is going to step in, especially at relatively short notice, a list has come together. Depending on who you believe, the lead candidate is either Ron Howard or Lawrence Kasdan.
Kasdan certainly seems the best positioned, having co-written the movie and also reportedly being a part of the creative conflicts that led to Miller and Lord departing the project. He’ll certainly know the material inside out, although he’s only directed two films in the last 15 years. It does seem clear though that Lucasfilm is backing his vision of the film.
Deadline, though, reckons Ron Howard is the frontrunner, even though he’s also in the midst of developing a feature documentary on Luciano Pavarotti. Howard would be the kind of experienced pair of hands that the studio is presumably looking for, given how far into production the Han Solo movie is.
Joe Johnston has also been mentioned, but he’s deep in development of the Narnia movie reboot, The Silver Chair.
Disney is expected to make its decision quickly, and the film remains on a break until the new director is brought in. More as we hear it…...

After announcing last year that the Chronicles of Narnia franchise will be "restarted" with the new movie The Silver Chair, the producers have finally found their director. Joe Johnston has signed on to direct this fantasy adventure, marking his first movie since the 2014 thriller Not Safe For Work. No cast members have been set at this time, but this story will feature characters from the original C.S. Lewis novels, who haven't been featured in any of the previous movies.
Variety broke the news today, which comes eight months after producer Mark Gordon joined forces with Sony's TriStar Pictures, eOne and The C.S. Lewis Company for this restart. David Magee came aboard to write the screenplay in 2013, although the studios haven't set a release date or a production start date at this time quite yet. Here's what producer Mark Gordon had to say about bringing Joe Johnston in to direct The Silver Chair.

Six years after the last installment of Chronicles of Narnia, The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, the franchise is finally being revived with an adaptation of the fourth book. According to Entertainment Weekly, TriStar Pictures announced that The Silver Chair will be adapted into a feature film. David Magee (Life of Pi) will write the screenplay. A director has yet to be announced and it's also unknown if the original cast — which includes Will Poulter and Liam Neeson — will return, though TriStar says the aim is to generate a "fresh approach" to the popular series.

After the release of "The Chronicles Of Narnia: Voyage Of The Dawn Treader" in 2010, there was some question of where the franchise might go next. In 2011, Walden Media honcho Michael Flaherty revealed he was aiming to negotiate with Fox and C.S. Lewis' estate to get the rights to "The Chronicles Of Narnia: The Magician's Nephew," which is more of a prequel story, rather than a direct follow-up to 'Dawn Treader.' That never happened, and a couple of years later, it was announced that "The Chronicles Of Narnia: The Silver Chair" would be next. That movie also never really materialized, but it seems the plan is still there to bring it to the big screen. Speaking at the Television Critics Association press tour, producer Mark Gordon told Collider, "We’re hoping to be able to make the movie very shortly." However, they will be starting everything over from scratch,...

As suspected, there will be changes this time around. Gordon confirmed that "it's all going to be a brand new franchise", with none of the original cast reprising their roles. "All original. All original characters, different directors, and an entire new team that this is coming from".
The new characters will apparently come from the existing world of Narnia.

Callaghan's book deals with how he began writing short inspirational notes on napkins to put in his daughter Emma’s lunchbox daily. It became more significant when he was given five separate cancer diagnoses. [Source: Variety]

The Chronicles Of Narnia take another step back towards the big screen, as a Silver Chair script is finished...
The fourth The Chronicles Of Narnia movie has taken a step forward, with the news that a draft of the screenplay has been completed. Screenwriter David Magee (who received Oscar nominations for his Life Of Pi and Finding Neverland scripts) Tweeted the news, writing "Completed the final draft of The Silver Chair today. I’ve had the immense pleasure to work on the project for over a year now. So fulfilling".
The Tweet is no longer visible at his account, but the folks at Narniaweb have been in touch with Magee, and he's confirmed the news.
There's still a long way to go on this one, of course. The Mark Gordon Company is the new custodian of the Narnia films, and it has to decide if it's happy with Magee's screenplay,...

With the highly-anticipated third season premiere of BBC’s Sherlock right around the corner, it’s safe to say that there’s still a place for famed literary detectives in Hollywood today. In fact, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s brilliant sleuth may soon have a big-screen competitor, as 20th Century Fox recently announced that they are moving forward with a remake of the 1974 film Murder on the Orient Express, which was in turn an adaptation of a classic Agatha Christie mystery.
The story centers on astute Belgian detective Hercule Poirot, one of Christie’s most famous creations. While traveling through Europe on the titular locomotive, Poirot becomes embroiled in investigating the murder of a fellow passenger. With the train mired in a large snowdrift and a murderer still at large, the detective calls upon his renowned skills of deduction to find the culprit.

David Magee was nominated for an Academy Award for his work on Finding Neverland and was more recently recognized for his screenplay of Life of Pi in 2012. He’s got another fantasic book adaptation in his sights in The Chronicles of Narnia: The Silver Chair, my second favorite of the series of seven books.
Producers for The Chronicles of Narnia: The Silver Chair include Mark Gordon, Douglas Gresham, Vincent Sieber for The C.S. Lewis Co. and Michele Wolkoff and Sara Smith for The Mark Gordon Co. This all according to THR who quotes David Magee saying the following about his new venture.
I have always loved The Chronicles of Narnia, and I endlessly imagined myself finding my own passage into Narnia someday. All these years later, I’m getting to fulfill that wish just a little bit by writing the film adaptation of The Silver Chair and could not be more excited about it.

"Life Of Pi" screenwriter David Magee has been hired to pen the script for "The Chronicles Of Narnia: The Silver Chair," the fourth film in the adaptation of the C.S. Lewis novel series.
Set decades after "Voyage of the Dawn Treader" in Narnia (but only a few years in the real world), Eustace Scrubb and his friend Jill Pole are brought to Narnia by Aslan to find the missing heir of a now elderly King Caspian. The missing Prince Rilian disappeared while on a quest to find the green serpent that killed his mother.
Eustace and Jill set off to the giant-lands north of Narnia to find him, and encounter the Lady of the Green Kirtle and a young man who must be bound nightly to a magical Silver Chair.
In a statement, Magee says: "I have always loved The Chronicles Of Narnia and I endlessly imagined myself finding my own passage into Narnia someday.

When I read The Chronicles of Narnia for a book club I was surprised that I actually had not read them all as I had once thought, and just when I thought I had the formula down for C.S. Lewis’ writing it would take a twist I wasn’t expecting. I’m thrilled that after relatively successful movie adaptations of the first three books, they’re going ahead with the fourth, The Silver Chair. Here’s the official press release.
The C.S. Lewis Company Forges Creative Alliance With The Mark Gordon Company On The Fourth Narnia Film The Chronicles Of Narnia: The Silver Chair The Adventure Begins On The Next Chapter Of The Narnia Journey
Los Angeles, CA (October 1, 2013) – The C.S. Lewis Company has entered into an agreement with The Mark Gordon Company to jointly develop and produce The Chronicles Of Narnia: The Silver Chair, the fourth book published in C.S. Lewis’ famed fantasy series.

I've enjoyed the Chronicles of Narnia films over the years, but after the last one I honestly didn't think we would see another as it wasn't the best in the series. But today it has been announced that The Mark Gordon Company and the C.S. Lewis Company will team up to develop and produce the fourth film in the series, The Chronicles Of Narnia: The Silver Chair.
Prior to this, Fox released The Chronicles Of Narnia: The Voyage Of The Dawn Treader, in 2010, and before that Disney released The Lion, The Witch And The Wardrobe in 2005 and Prince Caspian in 2008.
Cs Lewis’ stepson Douglas Gresham is a producer on the film, and he had this to say in a statement,

The Chronicles of Narnia looked like it had faded away after the third installment, 2010’s Voyage of the Dawn Treader. The first movie, The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, was a hit but the movies could never sustain an audience. A couple years ago when Walden Media was still attached, they floated the possibility of skipping ahead to the sixth book, The Magician’s Nephew. But now that Walden has left, the Mark Gordon Company is hoping to revitalize the property by teaming up with The C.S. Lewis Company to adapt the fourth book in the series, The Silver Chair. In the fourth novel, less than a year has passed in England, but decades have gone by in Narnia. Aslan calls in Eustace Scrubb (from Voyage of the Dawn Treader) and Jill Pole to help find Prince Caspian’s son and only heir, Prince Rilian. No writer or director is currently attached,...

The "Narnia" franchise will live again. The Mark Gordon Company and the C.S. Lewis Company are joining forces to produce "The Chronicles Of Narnia: The Silver Chair," the fourth film in the ongoing fantasy franchise which has bounced around the studio system. Gordon ("Saving Private Ryan," "Source Code") will produce alongside Cs Lewis’ stepson Douglas Gresham and Vincent Sieber, according to Deadline. Based on Lewis' beloved 7-book cycle, "Narnia" was initially set up at Disney, who released "The Lion, The Witch And The Wardrobe" in 2005 and "Prince Caspian" in 2008, with Andrew Adamson directing. The Mark Gordon Company and the C.S. Lewis Company are teaming to develop a fourth film in "The Chronicles Of Narnia" franchise.
The pair are set to jointly develop and produce "The Chronicles Of Narnia: The Silver Chair," an adaptation of the next novel in the seven book series. Originally published as the fourth book, it is now often packaged as the sixth book in the series.
The film would follow on from 2005's "The Lion, The Witch And The Wardrobe," 2008's "Prince Caspian" and 2010's "The Voyage Of The Dawn Treader".
Following the $745 million worldwide haul of the first film, the next two films underwhelmed at the box-office domestically. Yet both were still big hits internationally, and earned global totals of over $420 million each. The whole series has also performed extremely well on home video.

I’m sure that none of you have forgotten the first film in The Chronicles of Narnia series. It featured Liam Neeson as Lion/Christ figure Aslan, and Tilda Swinton as a Witch. There may have been wardrobe somewhere in there too. But it has been a while since the last chronicle in The Chronicles of Narnia; so long, in fact, that you might be forgiven for thinking that we’re unlikely to see the complete adaptation of C.S. Lewis’ Christian-themed fantasy series. You would be wrong though, as word has it that The Chronicles of Narnia: The Silver Chair has gone into development.
The Chronicles of Narnia: The Silver Chair is finally being developed by the C.S. Lewis and Mark Gordon companies. The film will be based on the next book in the Narnia series, following The Voyage of the Dawn Treader. After an extensive press release extolling the...
