These days, it seems like almost everyone aspires to be famous at some point. In light of this, it makes sense that a large number of people are curious about how wealthy celebrities get. Of course, this is a topic of great interest because some TV stars have made at least $1 million a season. For example, fans of Alexi Hawley’s police procedural crime drama series The Rookie are curious to know about the income of the cast members.
And it seems that the leading face of the series, Nathan Fillion, is no ‘rookie’ when it comes to earning big bucks in the TV industry. According to Celebrity Net Worth, the Canadian-American actor, who portrays John Nolan, the oldest rookie, is said to be raking in a whopping $100,000 per episode for his work on The Rookie. Talk about a payday!

Let’s take a trip back to November 5, 2007.
“Crank Dat (Soulja Boy)” is the #1 song on the Billboard charts, Netflix’s DVD delivery service is approaching its peak, and the Writers Guild of America (WGA) has just announced that 12,000 television and film screenwriters will go on strike after negotiations with Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) fell through. The 2007-08 writers’ strike ultimately lasted 100 days, ushering in sweeping changes in the media landscape.
Many of those changes took place online. One of the WGA’s major grievances concerned new media royalties. Writers sought steadier income from digital distribution of their work, and they ended up with a bigger piece of that pie once the strike was settled.
The then-new industry of online video presented a problem for traditional media screenwriters, but it also offered a solution. As the strike forced TV programs into extended reruns, showrunners went online...

Suit up, it's time to discuss everyone's favorite self-proclaimed lady's man. The antics of Barney Stinson may not have aged particularly well here in 2022, but the "How I Met Your Mother" character somehow remains just as beloved today as he was when the show was on the air. There is one reason for that and his name is Neil Patrick Harris. This is not to say series creators Carter Bays and Craig Thomas and their team didn't do an amazing job writing these characters, because they definitely did. However, the show's resident lothario wouldn't have been nearly as lovable if Harris hadn't imbued him with so much heart. Barney does one despicable thing after another, and yet the audience continues to root for him. Harris' performance brought so much depth to a character that could've very easily been little more than a caricature.
Sure, it's true that "How I Met...

We may not be getting a sequel to Joss Whedon's Doctor Horrible Sing-a-long Blog anytime soon, but we are going to be getting more comic books! There's a new one-shot adventure coming out later this year called Dr. Horrible: Best Friends Forever and above you'll find a piece of variant cover art from Francesco Francavilla.
The comic was written by Whedon and the art comes from Jose Maria Beroy and Sara Soler. Here's the story description:
From the Joss Whedon-helmed webmovie Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog comes the origin story of the next greatest supervillain of all time . . . Dr. Horrible!
In Dr. Horrible: Best Friends Forever, the time temptress herself, Hourglass, is in dire trouble and turns to that team of famous best friends, Dr. Horrible and Captain Hammer, who are best friends, yes they've always been best friends why are you giving me that look?In this one-shot comic,...

TV is still king at San Diego Comic-Con International, even though several high-profile titles, including HBO’s “Game of Thrones” and Starz’s “Outlander,” are sitting this one out. Nonetheless, plenty of networks and studios are stepping up to the plate to pick up the slack, and there’s plenty of intrigue to be had — including the introduction of Jodie Whittaker as the latest Doctor on “Doctor Who,” a new direction (time jump!) and new moderator (Yvette Nicole Brown!) for “The Walking Dead,” the return of Kurt Sutter via “Mayans M.C.,” and a “Breaking Bad” reunion. Check back all weekend as IndieWire’s West Coast team covers Sdcc 2018 on the ground in San Diego; below, here are some of the biggest questions we’ll be tackling.
Can Comic-Con thrive without blockbuster TV shows like ‘Game of Thrones’ and ‘Westworld’?

I'm sure there are a lot of Buffy the Vampire Slayer fans out there who would love to see a revival of the series. Even one of the producers on the original series is still hoping that it happens someday. THR recently talked to producer Gail Berman about the show's legacy and the conversation turned to talk of a revival. All Berman is waiting for is a call from creator Joss Whedon. Here's what she had to say:
"I would be really happy to get the call from Joss. I have my own thoughts of what it would look like, but my own thoughts are not important. It would be what he thought. I will always let everyone know this is all about Joss. I did everything I knew on how to to be supportive of that, but the stories, the direction, the writing and the tale telling, that's all Joss.

Yesterday, the CW announced at the TV Critics Association press tour that the CW would be doing something quite interesting with two of their DC shows: they'd have a two-part musical crossover between them. The shows in question were The Flash and Supergirl, though they also implied that other characters in this Greg Berlanti-created universe may join in on the fun.
This isn't the most interesting bit of news now, however.
According to a report from YouTube channel That Hashtag Show, the CW has turned to Joss Whedon himself to direct the musical crossover.
This is crazy cool on a couple of different levels. First is the obvious fact that Joss Whedon was once one of the key architects of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. While the Arrow-verse is no DC Extended Universe, this bit of news would solidify Whedon taking the leap from one comic book giant to the other.

Take this with a massive grain of salt, but That Hashtag Show is claiming that Joss Whedon will direct the two-part musical crossover between The Flash and Supergirl on The CW in the spring of 2017. I'm not familiar with That Hashtag Show and don't know if they have an accurate and proven track record breaking stories like this, so I'm hesitant to believe it until we hear further confirmation from another source. But that being said, I think everyone can agree it would be really cool if this ended up being true.
Whedon obviously has experience directing musical-style episodes of television, famously helming the Buffy The Vampire Slayer episode "Once More, With Feeling," and also dabbling in musical superhero tones with Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog a few years ago. Combine that with his experience behind the camera on the first two Avengers movies, and it seems like a no-brainer that he'd be up for this.

TV writer and producer, Tom Whedon, father of TV and screenwriter Joss Whedon (Buffy the Vampire Slayer; Angel, Firefly, Marvel's The Avengers), musician and writer Jed Whedon (Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog), and writer Zack Whedon (Deadwood, Halt and Catch Fire), died on March 23, 2016, at the age of 83. Jed announced the news late yesterday, on Instagram.

Earlier this month, Mystery Science Theater 3000 creator Joel Hodgson launched a Kickstarter page, asking for at least $2 million to create new episodes of the cult classic TV series. The campaign reached its first goal of $2 million in just eight days, which will fund the first three episodes, but they are seeking as much as $5.5 million to produce an entire 12-episode season. The campaign has raised $2.59 million so far, and earlier today, Joel Hodgson posted an update on the Kickstarter page, revealing that Felicia Day has come aboard to portray Kinga Forrester, the daughter of Dr. Clayton Forrester, with comedians Hampton Yount and Baron Vaughn set to voice Crow T. Robot and Tom Servo.
Felicia Day's Kinga Forrester will be the new Mad Scientist in this updated version of MST3K, who Joel Hodgson described as both comedic and threatening. The original mad scientist was her father, Dr. Clayton Forrester,...

Powers Boothe (Sin City, Deadwood, Nashville) has joined Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. in a recurring role as Gideon Malick, a notorious man whose loyalties remain a mystery. Boothe previously appeared in Marvel's The Avengers as a member of the World Security Council. While Marvel wouldn't say much more about Gideon Malick, it's possible that he could actually be the next Red Skull. Here's what Jeph Loeb, Executive Producer/Head of Marvel Television, had to say in a statement regarding the casting.
"Gideon is incredibly menacing and in him we have a character that even the stone-cold Grant Ward would fear. Only someone of Powers' caliber could deliver the type of ominous and powerful performance we needed."
In the aftermath of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s battle with Jiaying and the Inhumans, Director Coulson will search the world for more powered people and will face threats unlike the world has ever seen.

While under Marvel Entertainment CEO Isaac Perlmutter, Marvel Studios became notorious for it's penny pinching ways. But how far did they go to save a buck? According to Joss Whedon, he's made more money from his internet musical Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog than he did from directing the first Marvel's The Avengers. He disclosed this information during this past Saturday night's Dr. Horrible reunion. But is what he says true?
Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog was an independently financed project that he put together back in 2008, and it has been a cult hit ever since with a strong army of fans. Whedon noted that writing and directing Marvel's The Avengers netted him far less than the 45-minute video starring Neil Patrick Harris as the title character. Whedonites got a double dose of geek love on Saturday in New York — first the Firefly panel at New York Comic Con in the morning, and the Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog reunion at Paleyfest in the evening. Although the moderator for the latter tried to get the 411 about a Dr. Horrible sequel, Joss Whedon swerved the conversation into another topic: finances, where he revealed yet again that he made more money doing Dr. Horrible, a mostly free webisode series, than he did directing the first blockbuster Avengers film. Luckily for those who really want to know about the sequel, Vulture chatted with Whedon, Nathan Fillion, and Neil Patrick Harris before the panel. ("Sequels are my favorite!" Whedon laughed. "They always go so well for me.")How much has been written? There is a title (which Whedon won't share just yet), there is an outline, and there are songs. Will there...

Two years ago, Marvel's reputation for being careful with money when it came to talent became very public. The tough negotiations the studio was having with the ensemble of actors to return for "The Avengers: Age Of Ultron" spilled out into the trades. The various negotiations were resolved, and even Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans, who had from time to time strongly intimated they were ready to walk way from the series, are now more than ever happy to participate. But that hardly means Marvel has changed their methods. In an interview with The Wall Street Journal, Joss Whedon reveals that it was only during the making of "The Avengers: Age Of Ultron" where he finally understood “what it feels like to get paid.” Indeed, he claims he earned more making his own "Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog" than he did directing the first 'Avengers' movie. “They are in the...

Jimmy Wong is going back to his YouTube roots. Band Aid and features a group of four ex-bandmates who reunite when lead singer Chase (played by Wong) launches one last attempt to win over his crush Jo (Abbe Drake) before she leaves town. If you only know Neil Patrick Harris from his role as the charmingly rakish lothario on "How I Met Your Mother," then you don't know Neil Patrick Harris.
Harris has an insane amount of range and just as much talent. This year alone he closed out "How I Met Your Mother," starred in "The Smurfs 2" and won a Tony Award for Best Actor in a Musical for the Broadway revival of "Hedwig and the Angry Inch." Now that's something.
This week, Harris can be seen in David Fincher's stone cold masterpiece "Gone Girl," where he plays Desi, the untrustworthy ex-boyfriend of a Missouri woman (played by Rosamund Pike) who goes missing, putting her husband (Ben Affleck) in the crosshairs of both the police investigation and the media spotlight.

While most people know of the relationship between Joss Whedon and Nathan Fillion as being a Firefly - and, by extension, Serenity - thing, there really is so much more than that to their collaboration. Even before Fillion became Captain Malcolm Reynolds, he was working with Whedon on Season 7 episodes of Buffy The Vampire Slayer, and the years since their sci-fi show was cancelled they've found time to work together on projects like Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog and Much Ado About Nothing. They have the kind of friendship where if one were to have a biography written about them, the other would write the introduction. And, believe it or not, that's exactly what has happened. We recently brought you the heartfelt email exchange between Tom Hiddleston and Joss Whedon that was published in the new book about writer/director/showrunner, and now USA Today has published -in full - the...

Artist James Hance has created this awesome drawing for the cult classic web-series Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog. Hance is an amazing artist, and this turned out beautiful. The artist had this to say,
There we go! Really, really happy with how this turned out Considering making a few prints of this, should you need one. Ultimately I'd love to create a full color version on a larger scale - but this certainly has the heart I was going for.
Dr. horrible is a creation of Joss Whedon, and it has a huge following. There has been talk of a sequel for years. The team of talent has been slowly but surly developing it, and one of the last things were heard is that there is music already written. I'm sure the sequel will eventually happen, it's only a matter of time.

New York (AP) — Joss Whedon is releasing a film he wrote as a $5 digital download, bypassing the normal channels of independent film distribution. In a video announcement Sunday following the premiere of the supernatural romance "In Your Eyes" at the Tribeca Film Festival, Whedon says the film will immediately be released online via Vimeo On Demand and InYourEyesMovie.com. The film stars Zoe Kazan and Michael Stahl-David. Whedon penned and produced it. The release will be the second film release for Whedon's "micro studio" Bellwether Productions, following last year's adaptation of Shakespeare's "Much Ado About Nothing." Whedon has experimented previously with digital releases. His 2008 miniseries "Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog" was among the first high-profile Web series. Whedon currently is working on the "Avengers" sequel "Age of Ultron," to be released next year. Copyright © 2014 The Associated Press. All rights reserved.

"Castle" has an unusual problem in "Room 147." The police get a confession -- with details. Then they get another. And another.
Strangely, not one of these people confessing actually committed murder. How does that work?
What's the cost of a water bottle in room 147?
A man, Justin Marquette, is found dead in room 147 of a Best Traveler hotel. He was shot once in the chest while holding a water bottle from the mini-fridge. When Justin fell, he knocked over a chair.
That's straightforward enough, but it doesn't explain why Justin, a local actor struggling to start a career, was in the hotel (and that specific room). It definitely doesn't explain why three people all confess to the murder.
Starting with Anita Miller (a recovering alcoholic), then moving to Sam Carson (a man with anger issues) and finally coming to Dwight Caruthers (an unassertive accountant), these pseudo-murderers all tell the same...

Joss Wheodn's sequel to Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog has been a long time in the making, and slowly but surely it's making its way into production. Co-writter Jed Whedon recently offered an update to EW ,saying that the songs have been written and the plot has been outlined. This is what he had to say:
“We know we have spoken publicly about a sequel in the near distance and our passion to create it, and I promise we have not been insincere. Horrible is still one of our favorite creations by humans who were also us. We have many songs written and the plot outlined, but needless to say, we’ve been busy. Joss has had a hectic couple of years and is in the middle of the busiest year of his life, as is Zack and as are we. Also the actors have other things they’re acting in,...

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. has been progressing in recent episodes. I'm well aware that I don't speak for everyone but the majority of the vocal-minded agree that the show isn't reaching the potential it could. Hence, the numerous articles around these parts about ways to improve the show. But how do the brain-trust behind Agent Coulson's (Clark Gregg) resurrection and assemblage of a small, specialized task force feel about their show? Said Maurissa Tancharoen (Dollhouse, Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog), "We really just try not to think about the scrutiny and the pressure. We’re just trying to make the show that we like, and we’re working really hard at it. When Joss came to us and said, “Let’s make a S.H.I.E.L.D. TV show,” we were excited about the idea alone. And then, once we started diving into the world and inventing these new characters that would be...

Joss Whedon undoubtedly has one of the most fervent followings in the world, but the truth is that sometimes he makes it really hard to be a fan. Throughout his career, Whedon has made a regular habit of killing off characters that his audience loves, such as Tara in Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Fred in Angel, Wash in Serenity, and Penny in Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog. As a result, when he was given the reins of The Avengers sequel last year many fans took a deep breath, instantly fearing that the writer/director would use the sequel to kill off their favorite superhero or supporting character. But can we really expect some kind of major death in 2015's The Age of Ultron? Following up on comments that Whedon made back in February at the Jameson Dublin International Film Festival, where he promised "death, death and more death" in the upcoming...

"The Lone Ranger" & "True Grit"
Having not seen "The Lone Ranger" myself, I cannot speak from experience, but many reviews of the Johnny Depp tentpole have complained about the graphic violence in what is supposed to be a family film. If you're looking a Western that the entire family can watch and enjoy, check out one of the last financially success films in the genre — not "Django Unchained." One of the best things to be born of the web series craze and writer's strike (that wasn't Joss Whedon's Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog) was Lisa Kudrow, Dan Bucatinsky, and Don Roos's Web Therapy about the self-interested Fiona Wallice (Kudrow) who decides three-minutes via a webcam is more than enough time to sort out patients' problems. Showtime adapted the show to a 30-minute TV series in 2011 with a first season that expanded the cast and gave the show some direction outside of just quick comically awkward exchanges with patients. The introduction of Victor Garber as Fiona's husband Kip and Alan Cumming as Fiona's lover made for an interesting subplot to Fiona's therapy business, but for the second season of Web Therapy the subplot takes over and the show benefits greatly.
