Carly Rae Jepsen at an event for Katy Perry: Part of Me (2012)
Music can’t cure the virus, nor can it replace whatever or whomever we are grieving during this time. What music can do is offer a brief reprieve, and the right song can transport you to a happier place. With that in mind, here’s the first installment in Rolling Stone‘s new weekly playlist series, “Music at Home”: 10 pop classics, new and old, meant to spark joy in a “break glass in case of emergency” situation. Listen below, and you’ll find it hard to avoid smiling — or,...

Days of Our Lives Review: Not Who They Used To Be
The net seems to be tightening around Gina and Stevano. Again.

Every time it seems like this story is over, somehow the writers find a way to prolong it.

Could the events on Days of Our Lives during the week of 1-06-20 finally lead to the reveal that "Hope" and "Steve" aren't who they claim to be?

As annoying as the Stevano story is, at least it generates some great performances.

Matthew Ashford did some of his best work --which is saying a lot because he has brought his A-game to Days of Our Lives over and over for the past 30 years -- when Jack confronted Steve.

I haven't seen you for years and now that I have, I think I'm better off without you. Maybe I always was.

Jack Permalink: I haven't seen you for years and now that I have, I think I'm better off without you.

Days of Our Lives Review Week of 12-30-19: New Year, Old Troubles
Just when this Stevano/Gina doppelganger story couldn't get any sillier, it did.

On Days of Our Lives during the week of 12-30-19, Stevano and Gina flipped a coin before heading to the New Years' Eve party.

Imagine the great Stefano Dimera relying on an unweighted coin to make a major decision for him! What kind of crazy start is this to 2020?

At least Salem acknowledged New Years' Eve better than it did Christmas.

It was fun to see various Salemites getting ready to attend Julie's party, though it was irritating that that was the only on-screen celebration.

Supposedly, Jack, Jennifer, and JJ were having a quiet celebration at home, and it would have been nice to have some Deveraux family scenes juxtaposed with the craziness at the big celebration.

Plus, there were a lot of people at Julie's New Years' bash who missed the point of the whole...

Days of Our Lives Review: The Cruelest Plans
Just when it seemed that Gabi couldn't get any crueler, Days of Our Lives made her twist the knife some more.

During Days of Our Lives the week of 10-28-19, Lani's mother came back to Salem for the first time in decades so that she could celebrate her daughter's wedding.

Meanwhile, the Horton women welcomed Lani to the family, and Gabi offered to live stream the event for Julie, while no one suspected that Gabi was trying to force Lani to dump Eli at the altar.

A seasoned ex-schemer like Julie should have seen through Gabi in half a second.

Gabi was not only overly eager to live stream the wedding but also smirked at Lani when Lani came to visit Julie before the nuptials.

Related: Days of Our Lives: 13 Things That Only Happen in Salem

Gabi also made her threats in the public area of the hospital while...

Days of Our Lives Round Table: Who Would You Ship Out of Salem?
Gabi struggled to let go of Stefan while the Hortons prayed she'd give his heart to Julie, Xander asked Rolf for a favor, and Brady moved Kristen into the Dimera mansion on Days of Our Lives during the week of 10-7-19.

Our TV Fanatic Jack Ori is joined by Kayla, Doolfan4life, and Tony from MyHourglass: A Days of Our Lives fan forum to debate whether the Hortons went too far, if Victor is right about Kristen getting her claws back into Brady, and which three characters we'd like to see get the boot.

The Hortons sent an endless parade of people to talk to Gabi about donating Stefan's heart. How should they have handled this situation?

Kayla: I think they should have given Gabi some more time to accept her husband's death and then try approaching her later on.

Doolfan4life: I thought what they did was entitled and ignorant.

Paul Erickson, the Gop operative and longtime boyfriend of criminal Russian national Maria Butina, has been indicted on 11 counts of federal wire fraud and money laundering, for what the U.S. Attorney’s office in South Dakota describes as a two-decade scheme to “defraud” investors and “personally enrich Erickson.” Each count is punishable by as many as 20 years in prison, meaning the 56-year-old is facing the potential of life behind bars. The Promise: Charlotte Le Bon and Angela Sarafyan Discusses the Love Triangle
Love hurts. Love is complicated.

And in particular, for one man who is trying to keep all his promises during the Armenian genocide.

In The Promise, Oscar Isaacs plays an Armenian medical student who made a promise to wed a girl for money to attend school in Turkey. During his student life, he falls in love with another woman and made certain promises to her too. As the Armenian genocide unfolds, he has made many promises, in which he had to keep and had to break.

The Promise also stars Charlotte Le Bon, Christian Bale, Shohreh Aghdashloo, Angela Sarafyan, Tom Hollander, James Crowell, Jean Reno, and Tamer Hassan. It is directed by Terry George.

Lrm had a sit-down interview with the lovely actresses Charlotte Le Bon and Angela Sarafyan. We had a wonderful discussion about the love triangle in the film and what supposedly would happen if their characters would’ve met in the movie.

Humans Season 2 Episode 1 Review: Dawn of the Synths
If you find yourself in Westworld withdrawal, then boy, do we have the show for you!

Yes, it's about sentient, self aware robots -- here they are called "synths," not hosts. The difference is about how robots fit into the Real world, not just as pawns for the wealthy in a high tech amusement park.

Humans Season 2 Episode 1 starts with the rogue synth Niska, who killed a human last season, in possession of a code from the synth designer that gives her buds complete self awareness, making them essentially human.

Niska finds herself in Berlin, where the romance she has with a human named Astrid is the catalyst for her actions.

Astrid has no clue that Niska is a synth, so I feel really bad that she gave her heart to a machine. Love hurts.

For someone who supposedly wants all her synth brothers and sisters to be just like people,...

Strangely dropping a press release on a historic day where the nation's attention is elsewhere, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences revealed their annual list of new member invitees this morning. For those who criticize the makeup of the Academy there was some good news and the stark realization the organization still has a long way to go. The Academy has spent the last eight to 10 years attempting to diversify its membership and this year's class mostly reflects that. There are significantly more invitees of Asian and African-American descent, but the male to female disparity is still depressing. Out of the 25 potential new members of the Actor's Branch only seven are women. And, no, there isn't really an acceptable way for the Academy to spin that sad fact. Additionally, It's important to realize the 322 people noted in the release have only been invited to join Hollywood's most exclusive club.

12 Lessons We've Learned From 'The Hills'
Janeane Garofalo, Jenna Elfman, Richard E. Grant, Carrie-Anne Moss, Paula Mattioli, and Pamela Mattioli in Love Hurts (2009)
In honor of MTV's much-anticipated rebroadcast of "The Hills" finale with a previously-unseen alternate ending this Friday, we thought we'd acknowledge the many truths we gleaned from the series. Three years later, the following wisdom from Lauren, Audrina and even Justin Bobby still sticks with us.

It's important to be in touch with your emotions.

Be firm when you need to be.

Loyalty is an underrated virtue.

Don't take the blame for an offense you didn't commit.

People can't always be trusted.

Don't be afraid to move on.

Friendship is a two-way street.

Patience is key.

When friendship is lost, you can still count on yourself.

Always see the good in people.

Sometimes you need to be blunt and call it like it is.

Mad Max's Weekend Movie Guide: 'Man of Steel' & More
Greetings from the apocalypse! You want destruction? This weekend's got Massive destruction. You want egos? This weekend's got Massive egos. Whether it’s the bickering Apatow Mafia or Zack Snyder pounding Superman's face into the pavement over and over it just might be the end of the world as we know it. Feeling fine optional.

Friday, June 14

Pow! In Theaters

Nap before Zod! Sorry, boys and girls, but I must be the bearer of sour tidings: "Man of Steel" isn't that great. Is it better than the coat hanger abortion that was "Superman Returns"? Yeah, but not by leaps and bounds. On the plus side the cast is terrific, anchored by the measured charisma of Henry Cavill as the superest man there is and Lois Lane at her spunky best courtesy of Amy Adams. Unfortunately, the retro sci-fi trappings are "Green Lantern"-level ponderous and a climactic Metropolis battle that's 9/11 times-a-hundred ("Yes,...

10 Incredibly Sexy Stripper Scenes That Floored Us All
Other than Disneyland what’s the greatest place in the world? It’s a place where woman will do just about anything for a few dollars. That’s right; strip clubs.

On the same note strippers are American heroes. I can’t think of any other profession that I respect more, maybe adult film stars (I’m a pig, I know). Seeing as though real life strippers usually aren’t that glamorous we’re going to take a look at some of the greatest movie stripper’s scenes that blew us all away.

Now seeing as though I am a heterosexual male, don’t expect to see any Magic Mike or Full Monty entries on this list. This is strictly the hottest female movie strippers that we would empty our wallets for.

Let’s begin…..

The Following episode 10 review: Guilt
Review Ron Hogan 26 Mar 2013 - 08:02

Serial killer series The Following continues to let its women characters down. Here's Ron's review of Guilt...

This review contains spoilers.

1.10 Guilt

The Following has a problem named Natalie Zea. Or rather, the writing staff has a problem writing for women. Despite the quality of the actress and her chemistry with Kevin Bacon, Claire makes the absolutely worst decisions possible pretty much every time she gets a chance to make a decision. This is not a problem unique to The Following, since The Walking Dead has had both Andrea and Lori screwing up left and right for the better part of three seasons (Andrea is particularly bad). If forced to categorize Claire on the Andrea Scale of Stupid, which I am inventing just for this paragraph, she's definitely hovering close to Full Andrea, just with a better actress.

So much of the plot around...

The Following, Ep. 1.09, “Love Hurts”: Of spear guns and self-plagiarism
The Following, Season 1, Episode 9: “Love Hurts”

Written by Adam Armus & Kay Foster

Directed by Marcos Siega & Adam Davidson

Airs Mondays at 9pm (Et) on Fox

“Love Hurts” acts as a kind of sequel to The Following‘s most campy episode, “Mad Love,” the themes of both being revenge, self-sacrifice, being punished for love, and silly serial killin’ girls who be crazy. The first time around, it was the best recipe the show had cooked up, finally giving voice and movement to the show’s ridiculous conceits (fear the killer magnet!). This time around, though, by employing practically the same plot as its predecessor, we end up with shock value déjà vu. Worse still is the distinct feeling that the entire second half of this season is just going to repeat the first half, ever since the farmhouse climax-that-wasn’t.

For starters, sweet, spear gun-wielding Amanda is an exact replica...

The Following episode 9 review: Love Hurts
Review Ron Hogan 20 Mar 2013 - 07:32

Is The Following making a point about random violence, or just enjoying it? Here's Ron's review of Love Hurts...

This review contains spoilers.

1.9 Love Hurts

There's a certain kind of casual violence that has infected The Following that I'm not sure about. In certain situations, like tonight's harpoon gun incident or when Ryan randomly guns down Joe's cultists, it's borderline funny. For instance, tonight Ryan shot Louise - she's the blonde woman who gutted a random security guard a few episodes ago - in mid sentence without even blinking. I'd say that's a spoiler, but nobody really cares about Louise and she's basically another random cultie there to take a bullet for Joe. In other circumstances, the random violence is kind of disturbing, such as when one of many women named Claire Matthews dies via defenestration or when random helpful strangers are gutted.

That's this week's scheme du jour.

Following The Following – Preview Of Episode 10 – Guilt
The Following is quickly becoming one of the best shows on TV. If you haven’t been watching, it’s time to catch it on VOD and get up to speed. 'The Following': Adan Canto on playing evil and filming that scene...
Kevin Bacon and James Purefoy in Following (2013)
In a show about a murderous former English teacher played by James Purefoy and starring Kevin Bacon, it was the relationship between fake gay cultists Paul (Adan Canto) and Jacob (Nico Tortorella) that lit up the Following-themed corners of the Internet. That was, until last night.

[Spoiler Alert: Don’T Keep Reading If You Haven’T Watched The Lastest Episode]

In “Love Hurts,” we saw the latter smother the former, gently, with a pillow — because Paul was dying anyway; because Jacob had never killed anyone; and because Paul wanted his life to “mean something.” (Awww.)

EW talked with Canto about his character’s emotionally twisted end and his just-plain-emotional arc on the series.

The Following: Insider Look at Ep. 1.09 - Love Hurts; New Promo and Stills from Ep. 1.10 - Guilt
Just a handful of episodes remain before the April 29th season finale of "The Following," and we have a look inside last night's "Love Hurts" episode along with a few stills and a new promo for next week's Episode 1.10, "Guilt."

"The Following" Episode 1.09 - "Love Hurts" (repeats 3/23/13)

Joe invites his followers to finish “our” story and wants to know what inspires them. First up is Amanda, a woman in her early thirties who reacts to Joe like a teenager at Justin Bieber concert. Her first kill takes place at a diner in Union Hill, Pennsylvania. Two women are having lunch at a diner. One of them gets up to go to the bathroom, and Amanda takes her place at the table, startling the blonde. She needs a favor - she wants the stranger to tell Ryan Hardy that love hurts. The second woman gets back from the bathroom and slides in next to her friend. She is scarcely there for a few seconds before Amanda shoots her, under the table, with a spear gun.

Recap: 'The Following' - 'Love Hurts'
A crazy woman writing her own chapter of Joe Carroll's murderous story, several senseless murders, and one love affair gone horribly awry: Just another Monday night with "The Following." As this show goes on I'm increasingly convinced that that 16-episode season is just way too long for a show that is running on some of the same plot devices in order to maintain suspense.    The primary tension in "Love Hurts" is the love triangle introduced in the premise: Ryan and Joe both love the same woman, Claire Matthews. The manifestation of the triangle is a bit different -- there's always...

The Following Review: Love and Death
It's become pretty obvious that Joe Carroll has a lot of followers, some who love to party at the cult mansion and others who are desperate to add their chapter to his twisted story of death.

This week, Amanda joined the ranks of the less-than-developed followers, serving as something of a Terminator in hunting down any women with the name Claire Matthews. It was an obvious effort to hurt Ryan because of his own love for Claire, as  much as it was to lure the real Claire out of hiding.

The ploy itself was intriguing in that it was a unique way to cause more chaos, but Amanda felt like such a stock crazy bad guy that anyone could have fulfilled her role. Although, I have to admit, I'm pretty surprised no one was able to stop the skinny white girl at any point besides Ryan's final standoff.

Certainly, facing...

Kevin Bacon and James Purefoy in Following (2013)
[Warning: Do not proceed if you haven't watched Monday's episode, "Love Hurts." Major spoilers ahead.] Another one bites the dust. Death is a regular occurrence on a heightened drama like Fox's The Following, and Monday's episode, "Love Hurts," was the final chapter for Paul (Adan Canto), a loyal follower of Joe Carroll (James Purefoy). His death at the hands of Jacob (Nico Tortorella) was dramatic, disturbing and fraught with emotion. The moment came when a weakened Paul sacrificed himself for Jacob, who then smothered him with a pillow -- marking his first official kill. Photos: Fox's 2012-13 Season: 'The Following,

Warren Kole Introduces The Following Fans to Roderick: What's His Agenda?
After weeks of hype, the mysterious Roderick finally showed up on The Following last week, helping Joe Carroll with his master plan.

The character, played by Warren Kole, quickly showed the length of his devotion by leading the charge in torturing Agent Weston, as well as revealing that he likes his sex, in a word, rough.

Just how devoted is Roderick to Joe? Does he have his own agenda? Is there jealousy with Emma now that she’s slept with Joe? Kole jumped on the phone with me last week to tease tonight’s all-new episode...

TV Fanatic: We found out last week that Joe took the blame for some murders that Roderick did and that is part of their relationship. Does that come up again in the show or is that just really to give us some back story?

Wk: It might come up again. I think these flashbacks...

Love Hurts: Winterbottom’s Biopic a By-the-Numbers Look at London’s Infamous King of Soho

Michael Winterbottom continues on with his whirlwind filmography, unleashing one of his most standard projects in years, The Look of Love, a biopic on the rise of Paul Raymond, coined the King of Soho for his elevation of adult entertainment out of the gutter and into the public imagination. A trailblazer in Britain’s history as far as censorship and heterosexual nudity goes, there’s no doubt that Raymond is indeed a prolific figure and his personal life has just enough tragedy to make for a doable life and times treatment. However, once we’re given a few telling details about Raymond, his profession, and the three most important women in his personal life, it’s not hard to predict how Raymond and his ladies all eventually end up. Neither an exercise about the...

Lost Girl (2010)
'Lost Girl' Season 3: Everything You Need To Know
Lost Girl (2010)
"Lost Girl" was looking pretty bleak in season 2.

The Garuda was on the verge of destroying faedom until succubus Bo (Anna Silk) and her friends -- Dyson (Kris Holden-Ried), Kenzi (Ksenia Solo), Lauren (Zoie Palmer), Trick (Richard Howland) and Hale (K.C. Collins) -- managed to vanquish their ancient adversary. Victory came with a high price tag, though. Love was lost. Lives were sacrificed. Secrets were revealed and Bo embraced her dark side. In the aftermath, surely things have calmed down enough for the gang to pick up the pieces and catch their breath, right? Not exactly.

When the third season of "Lost Girl" kicks off on January 6 (on Showcase in Canada; Jan. 14 on SyFy in the Us), there will be a mysterious new fae named Tamsin ("Birds of Prey"'s Rachel Skarsten) in town. An imminent threat is also looming and Bo has been acting kind of strange lately...

Damsels In Distress – The Review
Review by Barbie Snitzer

Barbie Snitzer has worked in the entertainment industry in the Us and France. The combination of both passions distinguishes her blog Le Movie Snob where she regularly posts on American and French movies. Comments in English and/or French are welcomed.

http://lemoviesnob.com/

.Damsels in Distress.- or .How I felt watching this movie.

The word .damsel. connotes a helpless woman, she of the archetypical silent movie scene tied to the railroad tracks helplessly overacting her anguish until she rescued by a handsome hero. Intentional or not, this evocation of Golden Hollywood is entirely à propos my strong disappointment with this movie: Hollywood, we are taught by the movies themselves, is the land where dreams are made, and failure just means success is even closer!

Thus does Hollywood function like as a lottery; the majority of its product is dreck , a fact that nutures every...

Love hurts 'innocent third parties' too - Realbollywood.com News
Janeane Garofalo, Jenna Elfman, Richard E. Grant, Carrie-Anne Moss, Paula Mattioli, and Pamela Mattioli in Love Hurts (2009)
Washington, Feb 5: The singers who croon "Love Hurts" are right - but it is not only the jilted partners and unrequited romantics who are at risk but also innocent third parties, researchers say.

People who are primed to think about how madly in love they are with a partner put down other appealing members of their own sex, and are even more aggressive toward them, compared with people who are instead encouraged to ponder sex with a significant other, according to new research.

"Love, arguably the most positive of all human emotions, also comes with a dark side," study researcher Jon Maner, a psychologist at Florida State University, said.

In a trio of studies involving 130 people in long-term relationships, Maner.
