It's safe to say that Hollywood star Samuel L. Jackson has more than a handful of memorable roles. From playing a very unlucky member of Hammond's crew in Jurassic Park to giving life to the Bible verse-spewing villain Jules Winnfield in Pulp Fiction. His career speaks for itself, but that doesn't mean he hasn't had a fair share of less successful roles. Nevertheless, the MCU star revealed that a long time ago, he got a key piece of advice from his colleagueBruce Willis that prepared him for whenever his movies were bad, and he lacked money to pay the bills.
Willis turned 70 a few days ago, and his friends and colleagues celebrated his birthday. Jackson, his co-star in movies like Unbreakable, and Bonnie Bedelia, his romantic counterpart in the first two Die Hard movies, took to Vanity Fair to honor the action star. Dave Bautista's time in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is likely over. The Guardians of the Galaxy actor recently stated that there is only one way he'd consider coming back to the universe as Drax the Destroyer.
Bautista likely disappointed more than a few MCU fans when he told ComicBook.com earlier this week that "Drax is completely closed to me." The actor, who was promoting his new movie In the Lost Lands, shared that the only way he would even consider reprising the Guardians character would be if James Gunn, who wrote and directed all three installments, asked him to come back. "Unless James Gunn called me and asked if I would do something as Drax again, I just wouldn’t be interested. If James called me, which obviously is not gonna happen. He’s doing okay, he’s gone a different route," he explained, referencing Gunn's move to...

According to Deadline, Bautista will reunite with his Bushwick directors, Cary Murnion and Jonathan Milott, for Dreadnought. The screenplay, written by Joseph Greenberg, follows "Max (Bautista), whose world was devastated when an alien species crash-landed on Earth, unleashing a deadly plague that claimed his wife and much of humanity. In the fragile society that remains, humans have learned to coexist with their extraterrestrial invaders. But for Max, survival isn’t enough," reads the synopsis.

Samuel L. Jackson spoilers Nick Fury return (Photo Credit – Instagram)
Samuel L. Jackson might’ve just let the Marvel cat out of the bag—and he didn’t even blink. Chatting on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, he casually mentioned juggling Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, The Marvels, and Secret Invasion at the same time. No biggie, just another day as Nick Fury!
“When I was in London just now, it was like Ant-Man and Captain Marvel 2 was happening, and we were getting ready to do Secret Invasion,” Jackson said. “So it’s like three Marvel movies on one lot. I was running around from place to place.”
Three Marvel projects? On the same lot? This guy’s Marvel’s personal superhero speedrunner. But here’s the real twist: We knew Fury would make a splash in The Marvels (Jackson already leaked that on Instagram).

Anne Hathaway and Dave Bautista are leaping into an untitled action comedy from Banshee and The Adam Project writer Jonathan Tropper for Amazon MGM Studios and Agbo. The outrageous premise finds the duo leading a story based on an actual sting involving agents who posed as a couple to infiltrate global crime enterprises. Their work culminates in a staged wedding in New Jersey; only when their crime boss guests checked in for their seat assignments were they systematically and secretly carted off by authorities before the next party could be tipped off.
The untitled action comedy shuffles the original events, making the story about mismatched FBI partners with wildly different styles forced to cohabitate and tolerate each other’s faults for the good of the case. At first, neither agent can stand the other, but by the operation’s end, they learn to respect one another. Awwww!
Anne Hathaway has two films in post-production.

THR reports that Samuel L. Jackson is in negotiations to join the cast of J.J. Abrams’s new mystery feature. As expected, there are no details on who Jackson might play in the movie, only that it will be a “key role.“
The film will star Glen Powell (The Running Man), Jenna Ortega (Wednesday) and Emma MacKay (Sex Education). Plot details are naturally being kept under wraps. It was previously speculated that the film would involve time travel, but sources have said that’s not the case. The project is expected to kick off production in the spring in the UK with Abrams directing from a script he wrote. He will also produce through his Bad Robot banner. This will mark Abrams’s first feature film since Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, which was released in 2019.

Django Unchained was Walton Goggins' first film with Samuel L. Jackson, but they got to know each other better in The Hateful Eight. The Fallout star recalled the day his son first met Jackson on that film's production set.
Speaking at the 2024 MoMA Benefit honoring Jackson (per IndieWire), Walton Goggins' tribute was a funny anecdote about his son and Jackson meeting on the set of The Hateful Eight. Goggins' five-year-old was cosplaying as Jango Fett that day, and Jackson took the opportunity to reference an iconic Star Wars scene when they met. Jackson played the revered Mace Windu in Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones, and a highlight of that film was the Jedi Master's duel with the bounty hunter Jango Fett. That brief scene ended with Mace Windu chopping off the Mandalorian's head.

Having starred as Nick Fury in the Marvel Cinematic Universe since 2008's Iron Man, Samuel L. Jackson can't believe so much time has flown playing the former S.H.I.E.L.D. director in several projects. However, Jackson insists he still has one major goal for his character in the MCU, for Fury to land in Wakanda.
Speaking with GQ, Jackson reflected on portraying Fury throughout his time in the MCU as part of a nine-picture deal with Marvel, making him an ever-present in the superhero genre. Jackson admitted he didn't think his initial deal would end so quickly as Fury appeared in those nine movies over a short span.

Former professional wrestler and rising Hollywood star Dave Bautista saw disappointing results for his latest action movie “The Killer’s Game.” The film earned only $3 million in its opening weekend despite costing $30 million to produce.
Released in September 2024, “The Killer’s Game” tells the story of a hitman who calls out a contract on himself after receiving a terminal cancer diagnosis, only to later learn the diagnosis was wrong. While the movie featured dramatic fight scenes and an emotional love story, critics had mixed responses. Review site Rotten Tomatoes showed 39% approval from professional reviewers but 80% audience rating.
Box office competition also made success difficult. “The Killer’s Game” debuted alongside the very popular horror sequel “Speak No Evil” and fantasy comedy “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice,” which earned over $100 million in its first weekend. Analysts note that Bautista has found his biggest roles as part of larger groups like in the “Guardians of the Galaxy” and “Dune” franchises.

Even with Knock at the Cabin and Guardians of the Galaxy's Dave Bautista fronting it, action outing The Killer's Game has unceremoniously bombed at the box office. Bautista is typically part of an ensemble in his movies, and The Killer's Game was never going to hold a candle to a Guardians of the Galaxy or Dune flick, which could be part of the reason why the movie has floundered. One would also be hard-pressed to name any advertising they'd seen for it prior to the week of its release.
Even with Bautista, Rebel Moon's Sofia Boutella, fellow Guardians of the Galaxy vet Pom Klementieff, Deadpool 2's Terry Crews, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings' Ben Kingsley, and superstar Ice Cube, The Killer's Game was undoubtedly the big loser of an already slow weekend at the box office. It opened in sixth place with $2.6 million at 2,623 theaters.

A galaxy far, far away keeps getting bigger and bigger thanks to Disney+ expanding the “Star Wars” franchise with several TV shows, such as “The Mandalorian” and “Ahsoka,” to go alongside their film output. As such, “Star Wars” fans have gotten used to seeing actors from the franchise popping up at various awards shows — either for “Star Wars” projects or for other works. Giancarlo Esposito was Emmy-nominated for his villainous work in “The Mandalorian,” for example,” while last year’s Best Drama Actor Emmys lineup included Mando himself, Pedro Pascal, who was cited for “The Last of Us.” With this in mind, here are eight “Star Wars” actors who could be nominated at this year’s Emmys.

One month ago, heading into the 2024 Sundance Film Festival, the most anticipated title for buyers was not necessarily the action-adventure anthology with Pedro Pascal (Freaky Tales) or the Kristen Stewart-fronted post-apocalyptic love story (Love Me). It was Dídi, a coming-of-age film about a 13-year-old in the Bay Area from a first-time feature director with no notable U.S. stars. It quickly landed a deal with Focus Features, while films with shinier stars and higher concepts are still in negotiations for deals.

With Covid lockdowns and shuttered cinemas and the dual wallop of the writers’ and actors’ strikes, it’s been a rough few years for independent movies. But the end of strike action last November has triggered a rebound in the indie market. After a strong showing in Sundance, buyers and sellers are looking to Berlin’s European Film Market to provide proof this recovery has legs.
Early signs are promising, with a flood of new projects across all budgets and genres. CAA Media Finance alone has half a dozen finished films on sale and around 20 big packages, including sci-fi actioner Afterburn with Dave Bautista and Samuel L. Jackson attached, selling together with Black Bear; the drama A Big Bold Beautiful Journey from After Yang and Pachinko director Kogonada, featuring Colin Farrell and a post-Barbie Margot Robbie, that 30West and Neon International are jointly handling, and the Michelle Yeoh action thriller The Mother alongside AGC International.

Scarlett Johansson, Margot Robbie, Cate Blanchett, and Dave Bautista all star in projects at one of the biggest Berlin markets in recent memory, post and pre-pandemic.
Whether this year’s high-rollers will sell is the crux at a 2024 European Film Market which AGC Studios’ Stuart Ford is describing as a “watershed market.”
The big question is: “Was the tepid AFM an anomaly brought about by the strikes and a broader industry pullback in 2023? Or was the AFM an indicator of a more sustained downturn?” he asks.
It’s early days in 2024 but “signs for Berlin are quite positive,” says Ford, who is bringing to market three new star-driven thrillers starring Will Smith –action movie “Sugar Bandits” – Sylvester Stallone and Michelle Yeoh.
“One week ago, I would have said this is going to be a dry market. Now it’s going to be a busy market,” agrees Martin Moszkowicz at Constantin Film,...

Korean filmmakers have produced some of today’s most cutting-edge movies by borrowing the best elements from Hollywood, Chinese, and Japanese cinema, and mixing them their own unique cultural vision. So when it comes to the action genre, K-films are all over the map. K-actioners range from irreverent comedies to gritty brutal ultraviolence. Story arcs move from funny to savage in the blink of an eye.
Always well-crafted, Korean action films are filled with clever plot twists, refreshing characters that are fully fleshed out, and superb cinematography, However, Korean cinema tends to defy being as easily pigeonholed into genre boxes as Western contemporaries.
For example, Park Chan-wook’s disturbing Cannes winner, Oldboy, is more of psychological thriller than an action film, and yet the brilliant one-er hallway hammer fight is consistently referenced as one of the top examples of fight choreography from that year. Snowpiercer, which spawned a TNT series,...

One of the few ostensible surefire locks of Sunday’s Golden Globes is in the Best Limited Series/TV Movie Actress category. “The Queen’s Gambit” star Anya Taylor-Joy is the overwhelming frontrunner with 31/10 odds and every Expert and editor backing her for the win. Suffice it to say, if she doesn’t prevail, it’d be a huge upset. If she does indeed win, Taylor-Joy would not only have new decor for her mantel but she’d be the second youngest person to win the category.
The 24-year-old would be second to only Angelina Jolie, who was 23 when she scored her second of three Globes for her turn in “Gia” in 1999. Laura Dern is the current second youngest champ, having taken home her first of five Globes at 25 for “Afterburn” in 1993, less than three weeks before her 26th birthday. This year, Laura Dern (“The Tale)” is one of only three performers to be nominated at the Emmys for a made-for-tv movie, the others being Jesse Plemons (“USS Callister: Black Mirror”) and Letitia Wright (“Black Museum: Black Mirror”). All others are nominated for a limited series or a variety special. Dern would be the first winner in the lead actress category to hail from a TV Movie since Julianne Moore (“Game Change”) back in 2012. But unlike “Game Change,” which had 12 nominations total, HBO’s critical darling “The Tale” under-performed and came away with only two: Best TV Movie and Best Movie/Limited Series Actress.

Laura Dern returns to HBO this weekend with her film “The Tale,” a big hit in early 2018 at the Sundance Film Festival where the premium network purchased it. Dern’s last collaboration with HBO proved quite successful for both of them. “Big Little Lies” was a major winner during at the 2017 Emmy Awards (her first trophy) and 2018 Golden Globes.
Dern began her career as a teenager more than 30 years ago. Dern seemed to initially aspire to a more normal life but her attempts to finish her college degree at the University of Southern California were continually interrupted by obtaining plum film roles. That she’d eventually settled into an acting career isn’t surprising since her father Bruce Dern is a two time Oscar nominee and her mother Diane Ladd a three time nominee.

“Who killed Laura Palmer?” was the question on everyone’s lips when “Twin Peaks” originally premiered on ABC in the spring of 1990. With co-creator Mark Frost (“Hill Street Blues”), Lynch brought the surreal sensibilities of his films “Eraserhead” (1977) and “Blue Velvet” (1986) to the TV masses with the story of an FBI agent (MacLachlan) investigating the murder of a homecoming queen (Sheryl Lee) in a small Pacific Northwest town. The show was a success,...

It's increasingly hard to keep track of the potential projects pencilled into Antoine Fuqua's diary. Over the last year or so his name has come up connected to Prisoners, Escobar, Southpaw, The Tomb, Storming Las Vegas, Afterburn, Hunter Killer, Steel Town, a Chinese historical epic and a biopic of Tupac Shakur. Now however, Fuqua is adding Chicagoland to the list, and would seem to be making it a priority, since he actively fought for the job at New Line, winning it over a shortlist of other directors that included Stephen Gaghan.Last we heard, Fuqua's next gig looked to be the submarine thriller Hunter Killer, with Gerard Butler. Shooting was planned for late last year or early this, with a release earmarked for December. That appears to have fallen through, since the film is still listed by the IMDb as being in pre-production.The Eminem boxing drama Southpaw, meanwhile,...

Gerard Butler is a busy actor whose roles have taken him all over the map in terms of genre and character. While he may be best known for muscular action flicks like “300” and romantic comedies like “The Ugly Truth,” he’s popped up as a voice talent in the animated “How To Train Your Dragon” and had his big break as The Phantom in Joel Schumacher’s rendition of “The Phantom of the Opera.” He’s not slowing down either, with a busy slate of potential projects, including the highly coveted lead role in Albert Hughes’ “Motor City” – and it was just yesterday we told you he’d be joining “Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters” director Tommy Wirkola on the sci-fi comic adaptation “Afterburn.”
Well, he’ll be hopping out of one genre-specific pic and into another with his newly announced “Manhunt,” which will find Butler in the mix as a...

Though director Tommy Wirkola was just set to take on the adaptation of the graphic novel Afterburn starring Gerard Butler, it sounds like another project will get off the ground first for the star of 300. Deadline has word that Butler is in talks to lead Manhunt, a new action thriller with The Crazies director Breck Eisner at the helm of the production looking to begin shooting sometime towards the end of the year. The story follows an FBI team sent to the North Carolina wilderness to chase the FBI’s most wanted man, domestic terrorist and survivalist James Tollan, helped by the locals who keep him away from the law. With attacks on the federal government becoming too much, the FBI enlists the help of a bear hunter to capture the killer, but that may not be enough as Tollan will stop at nothing to survive and defend his territory.
