The series follows Thony De La Rosa (Élodie Yung), a Cambodian-Filipino former surgeon who makes a living as a cleaning service worker alongside her sister-in-law, Fiona (Martha Millan). After witnessing a murder, Thony is offered a job both as a cleaner and a doctor within a criminal organization that could pay well enough to help her son and her family.

Cicchini will appear as a recurring guest star as Assistant District Attorney ‘Joel Herman,’ a thorough investigator with a disarming, easy-going personality. He catches Thony off-guard at the hospital, but Joel insists that he is here to help, believing her to be under pressure from the cartel.

It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia’s Glenn Howerton scored rave reviews for his turn in the sitcom A.P. Bio — and the show deserved much better than an early cancelation. Since its four seasons arrived on Netflix, A.P. Bio has climbed the streaming charts to become a huge success. It’s a shame that success has come so late, because the series always struggled for viewership when it was actually on the air. In its initial run, it got canceled due to low viewership (more than once).

Howerton leads the A.P. Bio cast as Jack Griffin, a Harvard professor who’s forced to go back to his hometown and work at a high school after losing his dream job to his academic rival. This role made great use of the comedic strengths that Howerton has refined on It’s Always Sunny. Like Dennis Reynolds, Jack is vindictive and filled with rage.

Aubrey Plaza and Joe Wengert have set up the animated comedy series “Kevin” at Amazon’s Prime Video, Variety has learned.

Plaza and Wengert are co-writers and executive producers on the series, with Wengert also serving as showrunner. Dan Murphy will also executive produce. The series is produced by animation Titmouse, Plaza and Murphy’s Evil Hag Productions, and Amazon MGM Studios.

The official logline for the series states that it is about “a life-long housecat who decides that he doesn’t want to live with people anymore. Amazon is making biscuits with Aubrey Plaza.

The online retailer/streamer has handed out a series order for Kevin, an animated comedy from Aubrey Plaza and Joe Wengert (Big Mouth).

The series revolves around a lifelong house cat who decides that he doesn’t want to live with people anymore. The comedy is loosely inspired by a real breakup and the cat caught in the middle. Titmouse will handle animation for the series.

“We’re thrilled to be working with Joe and Amazon to bring this cat’s story to the screen. We can’t wait for the world to meet Kevin!” said Plaza and Murphy in a joint statement Thursday.

Plaza and Wengert will write the series and exec produce alongside Dan Murphy, Plaza’s producing partner at Evil Hag Productions and co-writer of the children’s books The Legend of the Christmas Witch and its sequel.

Paramount Global’s streaming service Paramount+ is removing some international original content across its markets and will not debut some planned programming sourced outside the U.S. as part of the entertainment giant’s goal of “managing costs” and “maximizing content with the biggest impact,” including a focus on big U.S. studio franchises and a reduction in local, international originals.

On Wednesday, Paramount+ in foreign markets started removing such international original fare as the film At Midnight, starring Top Gun: Maverick breakout Monica Barbaro, Brazilian series Marcelo, Marmelo, Martelo, and U.K. drama No Escape.

FX has ordered a pilot for the half-hour comedy “Snowflakes.”

The project boasts an impressive lineup behind the camera. Ben Kronengold and Rebecca Shaw are the writers and executive producers, with Nick Kroll executive producing under his first-look deal with FX Productions. Karey Dornetto will also executive produce along with Alicia Van Couvering, president of Kroll’s Good at Business production banner, and Jonathan Krisel, with Krisel also directing. The stars of Matilda plan on getting back together for a live performance one the SAG-AFTRA strike comes to an end.

Matilda star Danny DeVito, who's preparing to perform on Broadway with daughter and Little Demon co-star Lucy DeVito, recently spoke with The Messenger for a new interview. The veteran actor revealed his plans to reunite with Matilda co-star Mara Wilson, the former child star who played the titular role, for a "Matilda in Concert" performance. Dan Harmon’s new adult animated series “Krapopolis” finally debuts Sunday evening after years in the works at Fox. The Covid-19 pandemic prompted the show’s staff to shake up virtually every step of development and production, from a virtual writers’ room to a Zoom table read.

Just before the pandemic hit the U.S. in March 2020, Fox Entertainment president Michael Thorn encouraged Harmon to dust off an old idea the “Community” creator had shared about a show set in ancient Greece, but had yet to explore.

"The decadent, suave spy lit his eightieth cigarette of the day..." So begins the opening line of Ian Fleming's first James Bond novel, Casino Royale – released on April 13, 1953. How could anyone resist a guy like that? This basic, outlandish, and almost cartoonish representation of a double agent in a clandestine organization served as the firm basis for Archer, as any fanatic is aware.

Unfortunately, for long-time shout-oriented spy fare, Archer is bidding its curtain call, leaving FX and heading for reruns via streaming Hulu service.

Aubrey Plaza leads Little Demon as Laura Feinberg, an overworked and beleaguered mother of the spawn of the devil. With her co-star and supporting actor family of DeVitos, viewers and fans thought FX had a sure-fire win! But what happened to Little Demon?

Little Demon centers around Chrissy Feinberg (played by Lucy DeVito – Danny's daughter), a 13-year-old girl who discovers she's the Antichrist and his demonic powers after experiencing her first period. Although contemporary viewers were initially enthralled with the originality of this new FX enterprise, the series was pulled from Disney+ on May 26, 2023, and we'll break down the reasons why.

The Devil As a Good Guy?

Why is Little Demon a bad show? Well, it's not. Yet, if creators plan a comedy centered around Satan – it's possible that the series' language, gore, and nudity may be a bit off-putting at first to many viewers – especially those just hopping aboard.

Apple TV+’s first trailer for Strange Planet promises an absurdist take on everyday life in the animated adult series from co-creator Dan Harmon of Rick and Morty fame that is set to debut on Aug. 9.

“The bad moments will pass. Even the good moments will pass. That’s what our existence is all about,” one humanoid tells another in the teaser trailer for the series based on the graphic novel by Nathan Pyle, who is also a co-creator and executive producer.

Amalia Levari serves as the showrunner for the whimsical comedy, as it tells profound and heartfelt stories about beings on a distant planet not unlike our own. Strange Planet has a voice cast that includes Tunde Adebimpe, Demi Adejuyigbe, Lori Tan Chinn, Danny Pudi and Hannah Einbinder.

Levari, Alex Bulkley, Corey Campodonico, Lauren Pomerantz, Steve Levy and Taylor Alexy Pyle also executive produce the animated series from Apple Studios and ShadowMachine.

Hulu is removing several more shows from its service to cut costs. Recently cancelled ABC shows Alaska Daily and The Company You Keep are being removed, per Deadline. In the future, other alphabet network shows cancelled after one season will be dealt with similarly.

Other licensed series being dropped by the streaming service include Angie Tribeca, Blindspot, The Detour, and The Last Ship. Last month, Hulu removed shows like Y: The Last Man, Dollface, The Hot Zone, Maggie, Pistol, and Little Demon.

The removals are part of cost-cutting measures by Disney, which runs the streaming service. Many of the series had deals to remain on Hulu until 2024 and beyond.

The shows, which were initially set to remain on the streamer until September, will now be removed next month. However, they will still be available through iTunes and Amazon.

Exclusive: Hulu is joining the latest round of programming purges.

The streamer is pulling off a number of additional series from its service as part of Disney’s wider plan to cut streaming costs.

The company revealed last month in an SEC filing that it would take $1.5B-$1.8B in write-downs associated with removing streaming programming from its platforms and expects to remove from more its direct-to-consumer platforms in the third quarter with another $400M in impairment charges.

Deadline now can reveal some of those titles.

They include Alaska Daily and The Company You Keep, which were both canceled at ABC after one season. Both shows would normally have stayed on the service until September, or later if Hulu had struck a longer deal, but are to be removed earlier next month.

Deadline understands that, going forward, ABC series canceled after one season, as well as specials, likely will fall under a similar strategy.

The TV academy has honored voice-only performances since 1992, when six cast members from “The Simpsons” collectively became the first actors to receive Emmys for such work. The Best Voice-Over Performance category became an official non-juried one in 2009 and was then split into two categories in 2014: Best Character Voice-Over and Best Narrator. Harry Shearer (“The Simpsons”) was the former category’s first champion, having been nominated once before for the same series.

The 2023 Best Character Voice-Over ballot consists of 148 performances, which is down by 74 from last year. Seeking her third victory is Maya Rudolph, who plays Connie the Hormone Monstress on “Big Mouth.” Also in the mix are former winners Shearer, Hank Azaria (“The Simpsons”), Alex Borstein (“Family Guy”), and Seth MacFarlane (“Family Guy”).

In its current form, the Best Animated Program Emmy category allows submissions targeted at viewers aged 13 and above, while series and specials made for younger audiences are now relegated to the Children’s and Family Emmys. Potential nominees for this award are also required to have runtimes in excess of 15 minutes.

The 2023 Best Animated Program ballot list below consists of 33 entries. Per category rules, all are either one-off specials or single episodes of continuing series. Seeking their dozenth victory and first since 2019 are the team behind “The Simpsons,” who just wrapped their 34th season. Other shows hoping for repeat wins this year include “Archer,” “Bob’s Burgers,” “Genndy Tartakovsky’s Primal,” “Rick and Morty,” and “South Park.”

Unlike the nominees in most program categories, which are chosen by all 20,000 plus academy members, the animated program contenders are picked only by voters from the animation, children’s programming, emerging media programming, and motion and title design branches.

Disney is the latest media company to trim back content on its streaming services as part of a larger cost-reduction strategy. The move reflected a wider industry trend toward reassessing costs and strategies to increase profitability. Warner Bros. Discovery has also culled several series from what’s now called Max, while both AMC and Showtime have made similar content cutbacks.

Among Disney+’s withdrawn titles, the show “Willow” was the most popular. During the first quarter of 2023, “Willow” saw demand 14.6 times higher than the average show, according to Parrot Analytics‘ data, which takes into account consumer research, streaming, downloads and social media, among other engagement.

The more than 30 titles removed from Disney+ accounted for 1.9% of the total demand (both movies and TV shows) for the service’s offerings. Compare that to “The Mandalorian,” which at 1.3% of total demand was the most sought-after show on Disney+ during the same timeframe.

The entire media landscape is in a serious transition period right now. Yes, streaming is the future (and that is why the Writer's Guild of America is on strike right now), but that future is probably going to look more like traditional TV than anyone thought a handful of years ago.

You can no longer stream Marvel's Runaways on Hulu or Disney+, as the show has been removed from streaming services. It was recently reported that a purge was taking place at Disney+ with several movies and shows getting removed for the sake of cutting costs. Per /Film, it's since been revealed that Runaways has also been pulled, no longer available on Hulu in the U.S. and Disney+ internationally as it had been up to this point. As the show hasn't been given a physical release, Runaways is now inaccessible, and the news has some fans of the show feeling unhappy.

Following a recent announcement that content will be removed from Disney+, most probably didn't expect it to happen as early as a week after the announcement. Yet, here we are. A plethora of Disney+ originals, along with some Hulu programming as well, is set to be completely obliterated from existence in the coming days, with no stated plans to bring them to a medium outside of streaming as of writing.

As part of "strategic changes" to its streaming approach, The Walt Disney Company is planning to remove dozens of titles from Disney+ and Hulu on May 26. A recently-surfaced list revealed some of the shows and specials on the chopping block. Among them was Howard, a documentary about the late Howard Ashman -- a gay, Academy Award-winning songwriter who co-wrote the music for Disney's 1989 animated classic The Little Mermaid. However, Deadline now reports that Howard is indeed staying on Disney+. "The list of titles coming off of Hulu and Disney+ next week is still being finalized," a Disney representative said. This update comes after the company faced backlash for planning to pull an LGBT-focused project like Howard mere days before the beginning of Pride Month.

According to TV Line, television and movie lovers who sign up for the service by May 27 will only be charged $2/month for the first three months. After the promotional period ends, the new subscribers will either need to cancel or be automatically charged the normal price of $7.99 per month.

The limited-time deal is not applicable to Hulu's more expensive and upgraded services. As previously teased during the company's quarter one earnings call, the company is purging several titles from its streaming services, Disney+ and Hulu.

The practice has become common in recent months, with HBO Max leading the charge, wiping several projects from existence.

Undoubtedly, fans and creatives are struggling with the concept, but maybe some of the affected shows could show up elsewhere.

"We will be removing certain content from our streaming platforms and currently expect to take an impairment charge of approximately $1.5 to $1.8 billion," Disney's chief financial officer, Christine McCarthy, said during the earnings call.

In the old days you could always hit record on your Vcr to build a personal library, but it’s not so easy to capture material from streaming—and the whole point of streaming is not needing to do that, right?

For Halloween 2021, Disney+ entered the world of R.L. Stine with “Just Beyond,” an 8-episode anthology series based on Stine’s line of comic books. The series never got a second season, with Disney+ leaving its fate hanging in the balance these past two years.

Unfortunately, we’ve learned this week that Stine’s “Just Beyond” will be one of many Disney+ original projects that are soon being deleted from the streaming service entirely.

As The Hollywood Reporter explains, “Disney is following Warner Bros. Discovery and removing under-performing titles from its streaming services in a bid to write off nearly $2 billion from its bottom line. In all, there are more than 30 shows that will be removed starting next week from the platforms in this first round of reductions. The titles will vanish starting May 26.”

Disney will remove select series, movies, and specials from Disney+ and Hulu, The decision was initially announced on May 10th during a Disney earnings call, and the list of impacted titles has now been revealed. Among there are the recently released Willow sequel series, Y: The Last Man, Danny Boyle’s Sex Pistols series Pistol, and The World According to Jeff Goldblum.

“We are in the process of reviewing the content on our Dtc services to align with the strategic changes in our approach to content curation,” Disney CFO Christine McCarthy said during the call.

Other titles in the purge include the Turner & Hooch reboot, The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers, Just Beyond, Diary of a Future President, The Mysterious Benedict Society, The Hot Zone, Maggie, and more. Check out the full list below.

Several titles, including Disney+’s “Willow” and “Big Shot” and Hulu’s “Dollface” and “Y: The Last Man,” will no longer be available to stream globally beginning May 26.

Impacted titles that will soon depart Disney+ include “The Mysterious Benedict Society,” “Big Shot,” Turner & Hooch,” “Willow,” “The Making Of Willow,” “Just Beyond,” “The World According To Jeff Goldblum,” “The One And Only Ivan,” “Timmy Failure,” “Be Our Chef,” “Magic Camp,” “Howard,” “Earth To Ned,” “Foodtastic,” “Stuntman,” “Disney Fairy Tale Weddings,” “Wolfgang” and “It’s a Dog’s Life With Bill Farmer.”

Likewise, Disney will remove Hulu titles “Pistol,” Dollface,” “The Quest,” “The Hot Zone,” “Y: The Last Man,” “Maggie,” “Little Demon,” “The Premise,” “Love In The Time Of Corona,” “Everything’s Trash,” “Best In Snow” and “Best In Dough.

Both Disney+ and Hulu will “pull an HBO Max” on Friday, May 26, and (not-so-)quietly remove dozens of shows from their respecting streaming libraries.

Disney’s chief financial officer, Christine McCarthy, gave a heads-up on the library edit during the company’s recent Q1 earnings call, saying, “We will be removing certain content from our streaming platforms and currently expect to take an impairment charge” — or, write-off — “of approximately $1.5 to $1.8 billion.”

Well, this is just depressing. It was reported last week that Disney would start removing content from their streaming services, and the first casualties have been revealed. The dozens of TV shows and specials from Disney+ and Hulu that will be removed on May 26th include Willow, Big Shot, Y: The Last Man, and many more.
