I was fortunate enough to get the chance to sit down and watch the 2020 movie "The Thousand Faces of Dunjia" (aka "Qi Men Dun Jia"). However, I had no idea what I was in for, much less knowing what exactly to expect from the movie. But it being a new movie, a Chinese movie and a movie that I hadn't already seen, was more than sufficient for me to sit down and spent time and effort on watching it.
And now that I have seen what directors Hesheng Xiang and Qiuliang Xiang managed to dish out, well just color me impressed. This movie was entertaining in story, plot, action and visuals.
The storyline was rather enjoyable, and it was definitely an interesting one, I will say that much. I will not go into details, because I can't do the storyline full justice. Better that you sit down to watch it for yourself, especially if you enjoy these epic Chinese movies.
As for the visual presentation of the movie. Wow. Just wow. The CGI was just spectacular and looked very realistic. That factor added so much value to the movie. But I should not forget to mention the props and sets, because there was really paid a lot of attention to detail and so much beautiful stuff added. I will say that the movie is worth watching a second time, just to take in all the costumes, props, sets and CGI effects.
They had a good ensemble of actors and actresses for the movie. I can't really claim to be overly familiar with them, though, despite of watching a heap of Asian movies all the time. Maybe I have seen them before, but not faces that I am familiar with.
All in all, I was more than adequately entertained by this movie, and I can warmly recommend that you sit down to watch "The Thousand Faces of Dunjia" is you enjoy Chinese cinema. My rating of the movie lands on a well-deserved seven out of ten stars.
