As every Community fan knows, you can’t talk about the series without mentioning two topics: Paintball and Chevy Chase (National Lampoon's Vacation). The long-time comedian was part of the main cast for almost the entirety of the series, but was fired from show in a highly publicized and less than fashionable exit. According to reports from Community cast members and series creator Dan Harmon (Rick and Morty), Chase had problems with practically everyone on set, and the actor has now addressed the alleged feuds in an interview with the Wtf With Marc Maron podcast this week.

"You don't have as much control as you think you have!" Amazon's Prime Video has revealed the official trailer for a Spanish mystery fantasy action thriller titled Awareness, a film by Spanish filmmaker Daniel Benmayor. This premiered in Spain earlier this year, and will be available for streaming worldwide in October. A teenager lives with his father on the outskirts of modern society and runs small scams with his ability to generate visual illusions upon unsuspecting victims. Things get complicated when his powers get out of control in public, with a mysterious agency coming after him. As he tries to evade capture, Ian discovers he's not the only person with these powers and that his whole life has been a lie. This sounds like a very similar premise to Freaks (2018). Awareness stars Carlos Scholz, Pedro Alonso, María Pedraza, Óscar Jaenada, and Lela Loren. This one also reminds me of Hypnotic,...

Community makes a tradition out of iconic guest roles, and Josh Holloway shows up right when the TV series is at its best, stealing the show in one of the most memorable season finales of the past decade. Throughout six seasons, renowned actors such as Jack Black, John Goodman, and Brie Larson appeared on Community and added to the show's irreverent humor, but what makes Josh Holloway's guest role special is how his appearance is directly linked to one of the most iconic elements of the series: the paintball competitions.
Paintball is introduced in Community season 1, episode 23, "Modern Warfare," when a seemingly ordinary competition turns into a post-apocalyptical war zone, just because priority registration for classes is announced as the winning prize. The episode proved that Community was far from just another sitcom, escalating small-scale issues into problems of massive proportion and setting up the path for a promising season...

Ever since the "Twilight" series wrapped up, Taylor Lautner has been eager to show different sides than what audiences may be used to. He's gone down the comedy road with "Grown Ups 2" and the U.K. series "Cuckoo," and also forged an action path with "Abduction." It's in the vein of the latter that his latest, "Tracers," arrives, allowing the actor show some parkour moves. Directed by Daniel Benmayor ("Paintball"), and featuring Marie Avgeropoulos, Adam Rayner, and Rafi Gavron, the story follows Cam, a New York City bicycle messenger who falls in with a team of parkour artists who use their skills to pull off heists. In debt to organized crime, Cam goes along on the heists, but soon he faces danger on all sides. You can get a taste of the movie from the people who made it in the exclusive behind-the-scenes clip below. Read More: Watch The...

I'm one of those "glass half-full "critics when it comes to Taylor Lautner. Film after film I hope he'll pull a Sally Field, who went from The Flying Nun and Gidget to Sybil and Norma Rae. Would Abduction or Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2 reveal the young man's inner Laurence Olivier? No, sadly. The lumbering hunk remains just a lumbering hunk in those two. Prize-winning pecs and abs plus a cute smile were what the glamor boy's fans had to settle for.
"Well, maybe Tracers will be his Wuthering Heights," I was murmuring as I scooted onto the subway last night, heading for a midtown screening room. I should have known better. I should have checked out the director's CV before hoping for the best.
The Barcelona-born Daniel Benmayor had previously helmed a Schweppes commercial with Hugh Laurie and two deodorant ads, which would make you think he could avoid creating malodorous art.

Taylor Lautner to star in the action thriller Tracers, to be directed by Daniel Benmayor, and produced by Temple Hill Entertainment’s Mary Bowen and Wyck Godfrey, two of the producers of the five Twilight movies, all featuring Lautner: Twilight (2008), New Moon (2009), Eclipse (2010), Breaking Dawn – Part 1 (2011), and the upcoming Breaking Dawn – Part 2 (2012). FilmNation Entertainment will peddle Tracers‘ international rights at the Cannes Film Festival, which kicks off on Wednesday. As per Deadline.com, Tracers "buzz has begun spreading on the film and there is bidding among a number of territories international buyers." Whether that’s fact or just more buzz remains to be seen. Also as per Deadline, in the New York City-set Tracers Lautner will play Cam, a bike messenger who owes money (or something else?) to organized crime. Whether while fleeing the gangsters or just by being a klutz, Cam crashes his bike into "a sexy stranger." Seduction...

You have to admire the dedication of Taylor Lautner‘s team – they are convinced that they can turn the leader of Twilight‘s Wolf Pack into an action powerhouse. While he won’t be our Stretch Armstrong, and despite last year’s news that he was joining up with Gus Van Sant for more brainy films, Lautner has signed on for yet another seemingly stupid action flick (shades of Abduction). However, this one just might end up being, at the very least, wildly amusing. A press release from this morning reveals that Lautner will star in action thriller Tracers, which FilmNation will be selling to international buyers at the Cannes Film Festival. The film will be directed by Daniel Benmayor (whose resume includes just two films, neither of which I’ve ever heard of, Paintball and Bruc, the Manhunt) and produced by Marty Bowen and Wyck Godfrey (who have also produced the Twilight films). The film is amateurish early with little character development, while this horror train begins to pick up speed by the last third of the film. Daniel Benmayor‘s first feature was titled Paintball. In the action/horror a group of people were dropped into a forest for a paintball match, only to find out someone was using real ammo. After being attached to a sequel to Hitman, the Spanish director has his second feature hitting theaters at the end of the year. It is a Spanish war epic titled Bruc, that somewhat reminds of Nicolas Winding Refn‘s Valhalla Rising. The film stars Juan José Ballesta, Vincent Perez, and Astrid Berges-Frisbey (who can been seen in Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides this summer). Check out the trailer below via Buzzes Cafe.

Emulsion Alt PosterAs well as a second darkened poster, more exclusive production details are coming this way on Suki Singh's kidnap thriller Emulsion. The latest news reveals that British actor Mem Ferda (Revolver, The Devil's Double) makes a cameo appearance as a cockney gangster Egor, as well as being on board as an executive producer. In a recent interview Ferda revealed that it was wonderful to play a character with a London based accent: "I often play Eastern European gangsters, so it was very refreshing when director Suki suggested that I play Egor, with an accent closer to my way of natural speaking" (see Mem as Egor below). Other cast members include Sam Heugan (Young Alexander the Great), Claudia Bassols (Paintball), and Lex Shrapnel (Flyboys). The film will be released in 2011. After the relative commercial success of the mishmash that was Hitman, Fox is not surprisingly pushing on for a sequel to the action film, which was based on the best-selling videogame series by Danish developers Io Interactive. Urgh. Where the games succeeded, the film failed. Being a professional killer was exciting and nail-bitingly suspenseful at times in the games, where you wondered if the passing guard around the corner was going to catch you before you disposed of the dead body you were currently dragging. In the film, every situation was overplayed and trying to be cool, rather than just letting the situation play out and be cool on its own. That, and the fact that Timothy Olyphant - who is usually brilliant - was horribly miscast as Agent 47, the film's lead. Anyway, the sequel now has a director attached: Daniel Benmayor, who has previously directed the no-name film Paintball from 2009, a bunch of commercials,...

There are those who saw Timothy Olyphant in video game to big screen remake, Hitman back in 2007 and there were those who didn’t. I fall into the latter category as the film really didn’t interest me personally, however it seems that the property interested some people enough to warrant a sequel – and now that sequel has it’s director!
Deadline Hollywood/New York or whatever they’re calling themselves now they’ve been bought out, have reported that Spanish director Daniel Benmayor is in their sights as director of the sequel, which has yet to secure Olyphant for a return. This from Deadline:
Benmayor will make his Hollywood debut on the sequel to the film based on the Eidos videogame about a master assassin. Fox is planning a fall production start.
Benmayor, the Barcelona-born Nyu grad created a following shooting Spanish commercials for Sony PlayStation, Renault, Mercedes, Heineken and Samsung.

Spanish filmmaker Daniel Benmayor ("Paintball," "Bruc") has been hired to direct a sequel to the 2007 video game-based action feature "Hitman" for 20th Century Fox reports Deadline.
Xavier Gens directed the original $30 million film which starred Timothy Olyphant as the bald assassin Agent 47, a film which went on to gross $100 million worldwide. Whether or not Olyphant will return is still unclear but there's an option on him to return.
Story details will borrow from the video game "Hitman 5" in which a beaten Agent 47 must build himself back psychologically and physically to reclaim his mantle as world’s most feared assassin.
Daniel Casey has penned the most recent draft of the sequel, taking over scripting duties from Kyle Ward. Adrian Askarieh, Alex Young and Chuck Gordon will return as producers. Shooting could kick off as early as this Fall.

Hitman was pretty effective, as video game movies go. That's not saying a whole lot, but they did a decent job working out a story that worked as a movie and the action was pretty good. I always though, if there had been more money, it would have been much better.
For the sequel, 20th Century Fox is hiring Spanish director Daniel Benmayor, according to Deadline. I would have hoped, no offense to the guy, that a sequel to one of the few truly profitable video game adaptations would have picked up a bigger name behind the camera, but Fox is apparently committed to keeping costs down. And maybe Benmayor, who has a ton of experience cooking commercials in Spain, can do the trick.
His first film, Paintball is about a paintball match in the middle of the jungle with one player who decides to use real ammo. That sounds fun.

Spanish director Daniel Benmayor has been hired to direct Hitman 2, which will follow on from the relative success of the first Hitman film, released in 2007. The sequel will actually be Benmayor's first big Hollywood film. So far he has mostly directed adverts (for brands such as Sony PlayStation, Renault, Mercedes, Heineken and Samsung) and his feature debut was action film Paintball.
So, Benmayor, who has just finished wrapping up work on Bruc, a story about "a 19th-century Catalan drummer boy who helps give Napoleon's army its first taste of defeat" is on board and Fox is gearing towards an autumn start date for the film's production.

Make no mistake: it's still happening. Agent 47 is stealthily sneaking towards a second screen outing at 20th Century Fox. Deadline have revealed that Spanish director Daniel Benmayor is in talks to direct Hitman 2, but their big question is, will Timothy Olyphant return?2007's original Hitman was directed by Xavier Gans for a paltry $30m or so (IMDb puts it as low as $24m), and managed to rake in about $100m at the box office, despite being pants. Financially then, a follow-up is a no-brainer for the studio, and a useful step across to Hollywood for Benmayor's English-language debut (following many commercials, last year's Spanish slasher quickie Paintball and this year's historical Bruc).Last we heard, Kyle Ward was writing Hitman 2 (clearly a gamer, he's also the pen behind the Bruce Willis / Jamie Foxx Kane & Lynch), which apparently shares plot details with the as-yet unreleased fifth game in the Eidos series.

20th Century Fox is eying Spanish director Daniel Benmayor and writer Daniel Casey for a sequel to Hitman.
Benmayer directed 2009’s Paintball, a low-budget thriller about a group of players participating in a match deep in the forest only to find out one of them is using real ammunition. Casey made a name for himself with the 2009 Black List script Jimmy Six.
The sequel’s story will follow elements from “Hitman 5,” the game release from Eidos Interactive in late 2010. Hitman 2 (the movie) will catch the character at a “low point” and Agent 47 must build himself back up as the most feared assassin in the world.
The original, released in November 2007, made $100 million worldwide on a production budget of $30 million, but was critically panned (14% on RottenTomatoes). Timothy Olyphant played the lead role, a genetically-engineered killer codenamed Agent 47, but there is no word on whether he’ll return for this sequel.

I really, really enjoyed Hitman. Timothy Olyphant is one of my favorite actors and he brought an edge and a badass nature to the famous video game character. The producers even had the decency to cast the super hot Olga Kurylenko who was naked half the time. Plus there were numerous shootouts and dudes getting their heads blown off. We even got the cool sword fight in the train car. Who cares where they got the swords from? They could have pulled them from out of their asses for all I care, all I know is I got to see a bunch of dudes fighting with swords and guns.Looks as if Xavier Gens won't be returning to direct the sequel. Now here's a flick about vampires we can really get behind! That's right, kids, you won't be finding any sparkling teenage brooders in Steven Lawson's UK vampire import Dead Cert, and we've got some new artwork and stills to prove it!
Starring Craig Fairbrass and Billy Murray, director Steve Lawson's Dead Cert follows a gang of tough London gangsters who get more than they bargained for when a group of businessmen make an offer to buy their club, the Inferno. They turn out to be nothing less than vampires wanting their land back and turn viciously on the gangsters when their demands are not met.
"One of the things I strove to give this movie is a sense of history, of vampire lore," says writer/producer Jonathan Sothcott. "In a lot of ways this is a super-modern version of Dracula, which is a pretty big undertaking given that...

The second part of the header, about Timothy Olyphant’s return as being unlikely? That’s just me speculatin’, as I’m wont to do. But as to “Hitman 2″ itself, the sequel is very close to nabbing a director, with Deadline reporting that 20th Century Fox is looking at Spanish helmer Daniel Benmayor (“Paintball”) to take over for Xavier Gens, who directed the 2007 original. “Hitman” starred Timothy Olyphant as Agent 47, a loner and master assassin who prowls the world offing people while sporting a nifty custom suit, blood-red tie, and perfectly shaved head. It also introduced the world to the seductive curves of Russian model turned actress Olga Kurylenko (below). As for the sequel, the script has already gone through a couple of writers, and will apparently focus on the plot from the “Hitman 5″ game from Eidos, which will feature a beaten Agent 47, who must reclaim his mantle as the world’s greatest assassin.

In the long line of failed video game movies, back in 2007 the underrated Timothy Olyphant attempted to turn the whole mess around with Hitman by taking on the role of Agent 47, a bald assassin raised from birth to be a killer, tattooed with a barcode on the back of his head. Though I haven't seen it, word of mouth and a 14% on Rotten Tomatoes doesn't inspire me to ever actually watch it, but the $100+ million worldwide gross (on a $30 million budget) has inspired 20th Century Fox to make Hitman 2 which Deadline says Spanish filmmaker Daniel Benmayor will direct, but it's uncertain if Olyphant will reprise the Hitman role yet. This will be Benmayor's Hollywood directing debut, but the director has had plenty of experience directing Spanish commercials for Playstation, Mercedes and Samsung, not to mention his feature debut Paintball (see the trailer here) about adrenaline ...

The way I had remembered it, 2007's Hitman wasn't particularly a hit, and marked yet another video game adaptation that failed to capture anything worthwhile about the source material. But as it turns out the movie made nearly $100 million worldwide off a $30 million budget, and where there's a profit, there's sequel potential. Deadline Hollywood reports that Fox has hired Spanish director Daniel Benmayor to handle Hitman 2, and they may get Timothy Olyphant to return to star as well. The studio has an option on Olyphant, but given that he's headlining his own FX series Justified and doing Ok without shaving his head and tattooing a bar code on the back of it. As for Benmayor, he's made his reputation shooting commercials in Spain and had his feature directing debut with Paintball, a Most Dangerous game-style adventure about paintballers dropped into a battle with real bullets. Daniel Benmayor directing Hitman 2 We reported back in October that a Hitman sequel was moving forward but it wasn't quite clear if the film's star will return. Now Deadline New York is reporting that it still isn't clear if Timothy Olyphant will return for Hitman 2, but Fox has set Daniel Benmayor to direct the film.
Benmayor, who recently made his feature directorial debut with Paintball after directing commercials, is on board and it was said that Fox is gearing towards a fall start date for the film. However, with Olyphant's starring role in the new hit FX series Justified, which was recently renewed for a second season, it is still up in the air as to whether Olyphant would reprise his role as Agent 47. He recently made his feature debut on a Spanish movie called Paintball which is about a group of adrenaline junkies who get dropped in a forest for a paintball match but quickly discover someone is using real ammo.
While the first Hitman didn’t get rave reviews, the $30 million budgeted film made over $100 million worldwide. It’s no surprise Fox wants a sequel. The big issue for the studio is whether or not Timothy Olyphant will return as Agent 47. That’s because the actor would have to shave his head and he might not want to, as he’s currently riding a wave of great reviews for his work on the FX series Justified.

Whilst the first film didn’t set the world alight, Fox are still plowing ahead with a sequel to 2007’s Hitman. Yes, despite all the critic’s mumblings, the original film still grossed $100 million at the worldwide box office, and with a budget of just $30 million it seems Fox took that as a good sign and so a sequel is in order. According to Deadline:
20th Century Fox has Spanish helmer Daniel Benmayor in the crosshairs to direct Hitman 2… Benmayor will make his Hollywood debut on the sequel to the film based on the Eidos videogame about a master assassin. Fox is planning a fall production start. Benmayor, the Barcelona-born Nyu grad created a following shooting Spanish commercials for Sony PlayStation, Renault, Mercedes, Heineken and Samsung. I haven't heard the original Hitman described by many people as anything other than a disappointment, but plans are moving ahead for a sequel (the first made $100M on a $30M budget), which has just landed a director in the form of Spaniard Daniel Benmayor. No, you probably haven’t heard of him, but his feature debut Paintball sounds f*cking awesome. It’s about a bunch of kids who head into the woods for a paintball game, only to find out that someone is using real ammo....

Fango has learned that IFC Films has grabbed another pair of fear features from overseas, to premiere on the company’s video-on-demand platforms ahead of eventual DVD release. These titles join IFC’s growing lineup of upcoming genre titles, which also includes such recent acquisitions as Nicolas Winding Refn’s brutal Viking film Valhalla Rising and Yannick Dahan and Benjamin Rocher’s zombie opus La Horde.
New to the IFC roster are the Australian chiller Coffin Rock (pictured) and the Spanish production Paintball. Coffin Rock, written and directed by Rupert Glasson, is about a young married woman (Lisa Chappell) who drunkenly sleeps with a stranger; when she becomes pregnant, the one-night stand begins a psychopathic campaign to prove the baby is his. Clip #2 from Daniel Benmayor's Paintball landed online today following up the one released just a day ago! Proof positive that this new killer means business!
Official Synopsis
"Eight strangers convene in an undisclosed location for an intense, experts-only paintball retreat. Out of the gate, the game seems to be exactly what they paid for: all-out action in a remotely set battle of wits and wiles. As the game advances and the stakes get higher, however, it becomes clear that the group is playing a very different game than they signed up for. With rules that change as soon as they are mastered, the team sport quickly devolves into an anything-goes struggle for individual survival, and the participants gradually realize that their real opponent may be the game itself."

Head over to the official site for Daniel Benmayor’s upcoming horror Paintball, and you will now be confronted by a fake website and promotional video for the company “Redball Woods.” Extolling the virtues of their superb facilities “simulating” real to life combat scenarios, they ask for young daring paintball fanatics to “come and live for two days like you’ve never lived before.” Uh-huh and what happens on day three? From the trailer I think we can guess. Paintball opens in Spain next month.

Attendance was down by 30 percent at this year’s Cannes Film Festival. Not surprising, considering the recession still biting and Euro exchange rates keeping prices along the Croisette at ridiculously expensive levels. Yet the number of high-profile genre films in the Official Competition was a bonus for those more used to finding the most controversial entries up for distributor grabs in the Market section. While Park Chan-wook’s Thirst and Gaspar Noe’s Enter The Void certainly had their followers, with Terry Gilliam’s out-of-competition The Imaginarium Of Doctor Parnassus a similar hot ticket, the two biggest stories were Quentin Tarantino’s Inglourious Basterds and Lars Von Trier’s Antichrist.

The bonkers premised Spanish (but it was filmed in English?) scare flick from first time director Daniel Benmayor – Paintball, is heading for release there in July, so that of course means…. website and trailer time. Early reviews from its premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival have been mixed to say the least, but hey it looks good and splattery - which if no one else - should be enough keep the gore fans happy. Synopsis: A truck rumbles down a potholed track. In the back sit a group of passengers, their eyes blindfolded. They don’t know each other, but they have a lot in common: they’re young, urban workaholics, with an appetite for extreme experiences. They’ve signed up for a weekend of adventure. As they head out into the unknown, they hear the others breathing in the darkness, steadying their pulses in silence as the adrenaline begins to flow…...

This year I was awarded with my first experience at a fully robust film festival. I’ve been to the occasional movie screening or two, but unfortunately have never managed to get to multiple flicks at one particular event. So it is with great excitement that I can relay to you a roundup of the movies I was lucky enough to attend at the 2009 Tribeca Film Festival in New York City.

If you’ve checked out my piece on the film (read it here), which I naturally encourage you to do, the sheer enthusiasm I have for this documentary is likely obvious. When I initially read the concept (filmmakers investigating their own hometown’s urban legend), I almost expected a ghost hunter kind of thing and wasn’t too hip to it. Thankfully, Cropsey is much smarter, more intriguing and more heartbreaking than a first person hunt for ghouls.

Based on its loony concept—a bunch of paintball nuts go into the woods for a fun but hardcore game and end up getting picked off one-by-one when the game gets too real for comfort—director Daniel Benmayor and screenwriter Mario Schoendorff’s Paintball (2009) could have been any number of things.
It could have been a misguided and incredibly condescending critique of the self-indulgent and absurd nature of simulated violence or a pastiche ala Severance that winks to its audience at the excesses of its ludicrous premise or even a stupid slasher movie with no real ambition other than being wicked cool and gory. Instead, Benmayor and Schoendorff opted to take a lil from column A and a lot from column C, making a straight-faced thriller with an underdeveloped political subtext that’s as aggressively hard to watch as it is to conceptually to imagine working. Spoilers Ahead.

One of the shining stars at the Tribeca Film Festival is "Paintball," an independent Spanish film from director Daniel Benmayor. One of only three horror films currently playing at the Tribeca Film Festival "Paintball," along with "Hysterical Psycho," and "The House of the Devil," can now be seen by horror film fans on the east coast. From director Benmayor and screenwriter Mario Schoendorff "Paintball," makes a social commentary on our tribalist society and how the role of violence, in various media forms, still remains relevant to society today. Also, adding in several tricks of the camera, first time director, Benmayor will add a visually appealing landscape that will thrill those fortunate enough to receive initial screenings. Have a look at the available details for "Paintball," here and let us all hope that "Paintball," also shows at the 2009 Los Angeles Film Festival this summer.
