The other kind of perfect

Which some may call ... not perfect actually. Having said that, there is a lot of comedy and a lot of actors I have seen in other stuff. So this spanish movie really got a few things going for itself. It has some high points when it comes to dialog and it has an almost ridiculous family dinner scene towards the end - but it all is told and edited in a neat and good way.

The movie, like the relationships of those involved, is anything but perfect. But that is not a bad thing and not something to be too mad about. This is decent family entertainment with a few high points and a lot of drama. Almost as much as there is comedy actually - sometimes the mixture of both is not the best it could be ...

A passable Spanish comedy with several of the country's best performers.

Belén Rueda plays Lucía, a middle-aged, upper-class woman who believes she leads a model life and has a perfect family, with a wealthy husband (Gonzalo de Castro) and an obedient, lawyer son (Alfonso Ramos). But everything falls apart when she meets her son's girlfriend (Carolina Yuste) and her family, leaving her to question what a perfect family really is. When she meets her potential future relatives, a lower-class family, her world changes, since they are not at all what she imagined for him. Things take a turn for the worse when she has a romantic encounter with the girlfriend's father, Miguel (José Coronado).

The second feature film by director Arantxa Echevarria after the multi-awarded "Carmen y Lola", which also stars Carolina Yuste. A star-studded cast led by Belén Rueda, José Coronado and Gonzalo de Castro in a story with brief dramatic touches, full of entaglements, plot twists, misunderstandings, snobs, 'chonis', and a slap in the face of personal, family and social reality. The main starring is Belén Rueda , who gives a decent acting as the perfectionist, narcissistic and domineering mother who hides, beneath her haughty facade, a deep insecurity. Belén continues to prove herself one of the best actresses in Spain, with each film she appears in -although somewhat older, already in her sixties- , but she is capable of displaying great versatility, knowing how to give each role her innate elegance and utmost talent. Belén is an expert actress in mystery and horror movies, although she has not ruled out other genres, such as comedy, as demonstrates in this one "The perfect family". She has starred in blockbuster films such as: "Los ojos de Julia (Julia's eyes)", "El Orfanato ( The orphanage), "Durante la tormenta", "El Pacto (The pacto), "El cuaderno de Sara (Sarah's notebook)", "Órbita 9", "No Dormirás", "The Body (The body)" or recent, "Caída Libre (Free fall)". The movie also features performances by Gonzalo Ramos, Pepa Arniote, and, of course, Carolina Yuste, recent Goya winner for her acting in "La infiltrada".

The motion picture was professionally directed by Arantxa Echevarria, although it has some falls in rhythm, and the comic situations that arise are hampared by being too artificial, lacking spontaneity. Arantxa has also directed "Carmen y Lola", "Chinas", "Politically incorrect" and the multi-Goya winning film "La infiltrada", alongside her favorite actress Carolina Yuste. Score: 5,5/10. Acceptable and passable movie, recommeded for fans of Belén Rueda, José Coronado and Carolina Yuste.

Boring

Boring film, like most of Netflix's catalogue lately.

None of the characters arouse interest, the story is poor and heavy, it doesn't grab the viewer.

The story is vulgar and lacking in humour and the ending is not even credible.

a quirky spanish comedy...

About love and wornout relationships due to many years marriage, symptoms that the grumpy old man reckognize and have been and do still fight against, due to lots of reasos, but in sickness and health we shall endure to death or whatever they say in the wows on your wedding day, a day that the grumpy old man was so nervous that day my mind has completely cut away from my memorandum, but that was a blustery day yes, and my niece were babbling just behind us in the church irritatingly repeating ''no,no,no,no...'' so i ended up shakingly saying yes, at the same time wishing to flap the flabber outta thet nosy creature crawling behind my back...

its a at moments a honest and laughworthy comedy with loads of twists and shocking thrills, but also some plotholes here and there with a nonbalanced timeline, but the castensemble delivers from good to great, and if you like spanish neomodern comedy done in a linguistically beautiful way, without too much rattattatta-ta dialouges uzi style i give this a seven from my heart.

A bit long playtime but the opposites are fascinating, so go for it if you've got time.

In fact, it is not a comedy

The beginning was promising. It seemed the classical clash of classes with comical situations. Then the movie becomes a complete nonsense with many plotholes. The character Lucía evolves from comical to completely illogical.

In the end, it is more a movie about the evolution of the character of Lucía. The writers tried to disguise the movie as a comedy. However, the result is bad as comedy and bad as a movie about the evolution of Lucía.

My rate is 2, not 1 just because of the acting of José Coronado.

Typical Spanish Comedy

This is a fun Spanish comedy.

Too bad the cute son/fiance can't control his face and he over acts with it - like a spoiled 9 year old.

The ending is a kicker and, frankly, worth the watch. We can all take a lesson or two from it.

Enjoy!

If you endure the first 15 minutes, the movie is going to reward you.

When the film begins, it seems that it is a comedy about a mother trying to ruin her son's relationship because she didn't like his girlfriend.

The son of a wealthy family falls in love with a girl that lives in a not so good neighborhood. When the son asks his parents to meet his girlfriend and her famiy, the parents realize that the girl isn't what they wish for their beloved son.

But.... the movie is so much more (!!!) than a mother-in-law fighting daughter-in-law parody.

Actually, the movie is not at all about the relationship of the son, rather than the discovery of the inner feelings of the people surrounding the couple, especially the mother.

It is a touching and emotional comedy with funny moments. Definitely worth watching.

A French Farce badly executed Spanish Style

This is just silly! The acting is forced and not very natural. The dialog and script is childish and the plot a very predictable one. Maybe it would have appeal to a local Spanish audience, but globally, the humor just doesn't translate well. .

Sweet feel good - should have been a series

Sweet production. Good actors. Many good ideas. But 1 hour 45 minutes is a bit too short for all the interesting storylines and all these good actors. I really would have watched like 12 episodes of this.

Cute Lighthearted Comedy

Watched on a Sat afternoon as it is a short movie and it turned out to be just right - a cute light hearted comedy trashy vs elegant family merging together for a wedding with some unexpected results.

The worst movie in living history

It is commendable to beat the odds of incompetence to make a bad movie...because what you are going to see here it is a striking sequence of must-be deliberate senseless plot, misrepresented stereotypes, bad acting, and horrible directing.

It's one hour and 50 minutes of your life you are not getting back, and you will regret it for the rest of your life!

I warned you!

OK comedy

Movie builds on a time tested idea of two worlds colliding, where people from different backgrounds start to date and their respective families are very different. It was done with race, religion, culture and of course class.

So here we have a man from a well-off family dating a woman from working class. Prim and proper vs rough around the edges and no filter.

Entire thing is mostly predictable in the first half, but then movie takes a turn and moves away from goofy comedy into more "finding yourself" territory as parents start to interact and their outlooks start to rub on each other.

Some people would see that as false advertising and not what they wanted, but I think it's kind of neat as jokes based on initial premise start to wear a bit thin.

Good enough movie to kill an evening and then quickly forget about.

Stay away from junk movie

What is wrong with this movie? Everything. Awful play script, acting, directing and photography. But, for sure, could be successfully used for brainwashing of progressive people. Good luck!

Eng dubbed as Perfact Family

We have a high class aristocratic errogant rich family. Son goes little downwards selects loweriddle class family girl but more liberal, independent, lousy as well.

For a gala wedding mother first tries to postponed the date but by liberal always ready to please attitude of girl's father, this classy lady succumbs! She even falls for sons father in law. Shame shame every where but she is firm. She feels she gave up her womanhood in house keeping and family duties raising kids. She lost more then a family gain, she still is ready to perform and not to run away and doing all these without apologizing As she has did nothing wrong. On other hand daughters mother is also stuburned one refuses pardon to husband and melodrama has all funny laughable dialogues and situations we have seen many in other scripts. Family drama is dependent on this basic plots formulae but the atuburnness of both mother's actions put the males on edge still everything is finished in a smiling group family photo!

No fun, no script, no actors... no-thing

Belen, it's up to you, in your daily life, to inject botox in your face. But, if you're going to act... don't do the.ridicoulous, and don't damage your almost correct career, being in front of the camera like a Spynh... please, come on!

About the movie... to watch it is to loose the time.

A chore to watch

This was like if you asked a high school class to write a play. So many cliches stereotypes and just pathetically obvious next turns. The. Saving grace was indeed Belen Rueda she was the only believable character. Meanwhile the brides family was so obnoxious they were more like cartoon characters than humans in a movie. All in all I could not wait for the second the movie ended. Unfortunately I was meant to endure it with my partner who happened to love it. Good luck to all.

Cliché + Cliché+ Cliché

Basically it's an easy comedy, not pretentious, nothing new in the horizon.

The film is supported on typical characters, do we really behave like clowns in real life? Honestly, life could be hard enough to face it every time like a raw storm of conflicts, but is this the best way to explore the plot that they offer?

I respect the acting work and the massive effort that represents filming. Please, pay better to the writers and get better scripts.

Everything is justified, that's for sure. Each character evolves due to a renewed life. What I dislike is the clowny stuff.

Yes, Lucia gets better. Yes, Ernesto gets what he deserves. Bravo, Amparo! More women empowered like you. Kill Miguel, please. Sara and Pablo, I cannot believe your love story.

Anyway, if you like popcorn, bring your bucket.

Pretty awful really

As with a lot of Spanish films you kinda expect the same thing. This was worse than expected.

The movie was like two separate ones chucked together half way through, first you followed an unusual romeo and juliet style couple against all odds then it became Bridget Jones 2.0 following around a desperate housewife, i think the director just merged two of her favourite movies together and kinda changed the plot a bit. I laughed once only when the bread was thrown towards the chicken and the chicken made a noise, the rest i wouldn't class as a comedy.

The original protagonist (son) was totally wrong for the role too.

Don't waste your time.

NOt the prefect femily but ...

One of the possibly newest in Netflix was pushed to my TV screen and sounded quite interesting as title I was expecting a rom com movie.

Indeed the story started as a typical rom com but after the half the things changed> while the first part was referred to the proceedings for making the wedding of the groom and bride the second half is focused to the grooms mothers life after she was divorced from her husband for one reason : she had a nice chemistry with the in law !

The story then unfolds on how she restarted her life making her dreams once again realizable . I stop here referring more movie details.

The other part of the story is the difference between rich and poor. She and her husband are from the rich category. They are quite phlegmatic . In contrast the other family are lousy people : wife is very open minded and funny , her husband is less but still a fun man and ther children very lively in contrast to the other family. Totally different cast , the only that makes the pair join is the love and understand the differences . This made the groom family in the start being very negative but resisting very polite this marriage

The other side of the story raised from the grooms mother as we listen is more deep: 'All my life was a disaster to me: For more than 50 years I was a perfect wife I did the prefect wedding and made a perfect family but . Noting did to my life so far ' This was the reason she lived then alone The solution can be found in the story . Enjoy yourself!

Good comedy.

The first half was great, then it got a bit absurd. But the actors - esp. Rueda - were very good. But I always wanted to know how it would end .. so kept my interest, a key rating criterion for me. Rueda is not only hypnotically (imho) beautiful, but has a very animated and dominant presence, and great comedy timing.
