Queens of the Stone Age kicked off a US tour on Tuesday night (June 10th) in Boston, marking the band’s first concert since postponing a number of shows last year as frontman Josh Homme received “essential medical care” for an undisclosed health issue.

The gig was the first of a two-night stand the MGM Music Hall at Fenway. The brief tour continues tonight (June 11th) at the same venue, and runs through a June 21st show in Chicago (pick up tickets here).

For their return performance, Qotsa played an 18-song set, kicking off with …Like Clockwork‘s “Keep Your Eyes Peeled,” which they hadn’t played since 2018. Next up was their Songs for the Deaf hit “No One Knows” (which landed at No. 2 on Consequence’s list of the Best Guitar Riffs of the 21st Century So Far).

Queens of the Stone Age have added a run of US shows in December to their 2023 tour itinerary, keeping them on the road until the end of the year.

Frontman Josh Homme and company are currently in the midst of a late summer / early fall North American outing, and will launch a UK/European jaunt in November. The newly added US leg kicks off December 5th in Phoenix, and wraps up December 16th in Los Angeles, with support from Spiritualized.

A Live Nation pre-sale for the new dates begins Thursday (September 21st) at 10 a.m. local time via Ticketmaster using the code Studio, while general sales start Friday (September 22nd). Track by Track is our recurring feature series in which artists guide readers through each song on their latest release. Today, New York City rocker Des Rocs give us insight into his sophomore album, Dream Machine.

Des Rocs, aka Danny Rocco, sports the silhouette of a young Elvis Presley, and his brand of self-described “bedroom arena rock” tugs at the rock ‘n’ roll of the past with the intent of making the present a bit more tolerable.

Fused with the wit of an artist forging his path in the competitive New York City circuit, his music transcends pastiche and is frankly refreshing. There’s tangible joy: bombastic chords, anthemic Queen-esque choruses, glam-metal swagger. In a gloomy world where many musicians are making gloomy music, Des Rocs sounds like the damn antidote.

Queens of the Stone Age launched their first North American headlining tour in five years on Thursday evening (August 3rd) at the Michigan Lottery Amphitheatre in Sterling Heights, Michigan.

The outing, dubbed “The End Is Nero Tour,” is broken up into in two legs, with this first one running through August 19th, and the second one launching on September 16th and wrapping up with an October 8th gig at the Aftershock festival in Sacramento, California. Tickets are available via Ticketmaster or StubHub.

Frontman Josh Homme recently said he’s disappointed when bands don’t play their hits, and he certainly didn’t let down Qotsa fans by kicking off the show with perhaps the band’s best-known song, “No One Knows.”

The 18-song set also included four songs off Qotsa’s new album, In Times New Roman…, alongside favorites like “My God Is the Sun,” “Little Sister,” and “Go With the Flow.

While it’s understandable that bands want to play the “new stuff” when they go out on tour, most fans still want to hear the hits. Count Queens of the Stone Age frontman Josh Homme among those who think music acts should perform their “big songs” in concert.

While appearing on the Tuna on Toast With Stryker podcast (as transcribed by Ultimate Classic Rock), Homme remarked, “I understand that I’m always going to play [Qotsa hit] ‘No One Knows’ because I still like playing that song and that’s something that it’s an agreement with the audience. I assume that this is a part of coming here to see us, and here you go.”

He continued, “When there’s bands that don’t want to play their big song or their big songs, I always think it’s a little c*nty to do that. Acting like a song that...

Queens of the Stone Age helped close out Glastonbury with a scorching career-spanning set on Sunday evening.

Over the course of their 15-song performance, Qotsa mixed greatest hits with material from their latest album, In Times New Roman… The setlist included songs like “Go With the Flow,” “The Lost Art of Keeping a Secret,” “Little Sister,” and “No One Knows,” plus new tracks “Paper Machete” and “Carnavoyeur.”

Early on in the set, frontman Josh Homme encouraged the Glastonbury crowd to “fuck shit up together… This is it motherfuckers. This is your last night!” Many fans responded in kind — especially during set closer “A Song for the Dead,” when a massive mosh pit broke out. Additionally, Homme dedicated the band’s performance of “In the Fade” to frequent collaborator Mark Lanegan, who passed away last year.

Queens of the Stone Age played their second show of the year at Boston Calling on Sunday night, where they treated fans to the debut of a new song called “Negative Space” as well as the first performance of “Misfit Love” since 2018.

“Negative Space” comes from Qotsa’s upcoming album, In Times New Roman…, which is due out on June 16th. Previously, the band premiered the lead single, “Emotion Sickness.”

Elsewhere during their set at Boston Calling, Qotsa dusted off “Misfit Love,” from 2007’s Era Vulgaris, for the first time in five years.

Qotsa have several more festival appearances on its calendar, including Riot Fest in Chicago, Aftershock Festival in Sacramento, and Louder Than Life in Louisville. Tickets to their upcoming gigs are on sale here.

Queens of the Stone Age took the stage at Sonic Temple in Columbus, Ohio on Friday for their first concert in three years. Over the course of the hour-long performance, the band ripped through an 11-song set that included the live debut of their new single, “Emotion Sickness.”
