Tom Segura To Star In & Produce R-Rated Comedy ‘El Tigre’
Image
Exclusive: Top comic Tom Segura has for weeks been teasing a new film project on his podcasts — and now, we know what it is. He’s found his first feature starring vehicle in El Tigre, an R-rated comedy to be helmed by emerging director Tyler Cornack (Mermaid) from a script by Aaron Buchsbaum and Teddy Riley.

The news comes as Segura kicks his work in film and television into high gear. Just a week ago, Netflix ordered a second season of Bad Thoughts, his new series for the streamer, where he places a lens on his some of his most dark and twisted cinematic fantasies.

Entering production in New Mexico this summer, El Tigre follows Jeff (Segura) and his friends as they head down to Mexico, only to discover the hard way that Jeff is a dead ringer for the infamous cartel leader El Tigre who’s gone missing. After...

Comedian Tom Segura Wants to Know Where the Bodies Are, Garth Brooks
Image
“I can’t believe what my life is,” says Tom Segura.

Segura has good reason to be proud. The 44-year-old comic has grinded away for decades to become one of the most successful (and prolific) comedians around. He co-hosts a pair of popular podcasts — Two Bears One Cave with pal and fellow comic Bert Kreischer, and Your Mom’s House with wife/comedian Christina Pazsitsky; penned a bestselling book of humorous essays; sells out stand-up shows across the country; and just released his fifth Netflix stand-up special, Tom Segura: Sledgehammer, which...

Netflix Top 10 (Week of July 3): ‘The Out-Laws’ and ‘The Lincoln Lawyer’ top charts
Image
There were many new entries into the Netflix Top 10 film chart for the week of July 3, some new seasons of familiar TV series, as well as a new comedy movie. Read on for this week’s analysis.

Chris Hemsworth‘s action-thriller “Extraction 2” has been dominating the English movie charts for weeks, but it was bumped by the new action-comedy “The Out-Laws,” starring Adam Devine, Nina Dobrev, Ellen Barkin and Pierce Brosnan. It racked up 19.6 million views since debuting on the streamer to take the #1 spot, the most-watched movie in the United States and over forty other countries (but not the UK or Canada).

“Extraction 2” remained in second place with 8.9 million views to bring its total to 111.4 million views in four weeks of release. That’s just behind Jennifer Lopez‘s action flick “The Mother,” with 130 million views to date. As expected, the animated feature “Nimona,” was able to...

‘The Out-Laws’ Takes Crown As Netflix’s Most-Viewed Title In Premiere Week; ‘Lincoln Lawyer’ Season 2 Debuts At No. 2 On TV Top 10
Image
The Witcher Season 3 is still holding strong on Netflix’s English-language TV list.

In its second week on the streamer, the first half of the new season drew 13.8M views (66.5M view hours divided by 4.82 runtime hours) for the week of July 3 to 9. That’s down slightly from the 15.2M views the episodes managed in their first few days on the platform following its June 29 debut.

Season 3 has managed 29M views since launch. It’s still quite a ways away from making the most popular TV list, as it would need to crack 79M views. But it’s only been two weeks, and there is still plenty of time in Netflix’s new 91-day measurement window for the season to make it — especially with the second half of the season yet to be released.

The excitement surrounding the new season prompted audiences to revisit The Witcher Seasons 1 and 2, which were...

Image
After a 21-month run that saw him perform for more than 700,000 fans, the promise of Tom Segura’s “I’m Coming Everywhere” world tour has finally been fulfilled.

If you’re wondering if this long haul was a test of endurance for the globally popular stand-up comic, who has been working the circuit for nearly 20 years, the answer is an unqualified yes. “I mean, I’ve said it, but…I signed up for too much, so it felt really good to get to the end,” Segura says with a laugh. “I very vividly remember the last few shows counting down and being like, ‘I can’t believe this is finally coming to an end.’ But, you know, it’s 21 months and like 303 shows. It was just outrageous.”

The fruits of his labor are on display in Tom Segura: Sledgehammer, the first of two specials emerging from a 2022 deal with Netflix,...

Tom Segura on His ‘Sledgehammer’ Netflix Stand-Up Special: ‘It’s Fun, It’s Outrageous and I’m Sure It’s Going to Offend People’
Image
In May 2021, after 19 years in Los Angeles, comedians and married couple Tom Segura and Christina Pazsitzky (aka Christina P), moved to Austin with their two young sons. Segura says he felt like L.A., in mid-pandemic, was falling apart. “I was like, ‘This city is turning into a shit show!'” he tells Variety.

About one month after they moved, Pazsitzky suffered an injurious fall in their new home. And, as you might expect, Segura ended up turning the (non-life-threatening) accident into a bit, which is featured in “Tom Segura: Sledgehammer,” his upcoming stand-up special premiering July 4 globally on Netflix.

In “Sledgehammer,” Segura recounts his uneasy 911 call that night requesting help. “I realized that, while what I’m about to say it true, it sounds… suspicious! But I gotta say it. So I’m like, ‘My wife fell down the stairs.'” Pazsitzky, who had misjudged a step when she...

Tom Segura Says He’s Sold Pilot In Which He Stars To A Streamer, ‘Fat Astronauts’ Film In Active Development; New Podcast ‘Not Today Pal’ With Jamie-Lynn Sigler & Rob Iler To Launch Next Month
Image
Some time ago, comedian Tom Segura teased on his Ymh Studios podcasts that he’d decided to self-finance and shoot a mystery video project, with further details to be disclosed at a later date. And at long last, they’re beginning to emerge, as Segura has disclosed to Deadline his sale to a streaming service of a pilot in which he’ll star.

“We…produced a pilot that we sold to one of the streamers…We financed it, we produced it, wrote it,” Segura shared during a Zoom call late last week. “This was a hundred percent like the podcast way of thinking, which was like, ‘Just make the thing.’ So we just made it, spent a fortune doing it, but I think for the right reasons. And I think they’ll probably make an announcement about it soon, maybe when the strike resolves. But we’re very excited about it,...
