In the article series Sound and Vision we take a look at music videos from notable directors. This week, five music videos that Marc Webb made that feel like precursors for his new adaptation of Snow White. As a music video director Marc Webb specialized in videos for nu-metal, pop punk and emo acts. A lot of these videos, like the genres of music themselves, scan as achingly sincere, bordering on the silly. It is in a lot of the films Webb made ever since that this balance between the silly and the sincere gets pushed into the extreme. The rebound romance for the protagonist of 500 Days of Summer having the name Autumn is such a groan worthy moment. And while there is a...

After the events of the previous scene in Lost Records: Bloom & Rage, where Corey and Dylan terrorize and bully poor Swann, before Autumn, Nora, and Kat intercede. In the midst of them helping Swann, Corey demands Autumn make him ice cream, and when she dismisses his demand, he throws her keys to some unknown location, and the group needs to find them. The onus is on Swann, and there us, the player, to help find the keys, but the question is, where are they, and how do you get them down when you find them?

It’s not a full-gone conclusion that you will or have to find the keys at all, but if you want to, we’ll walk you through the steps to save you a lot of confusion and frustration at one of the early parts of the game. The Forgotten...

Lost Records: Bloom & Rage is the latest effort from French publisher/developer Don’t Nod, the studio responsible for the original Life is Strange. A new IP it may be, but the studio’s latest effort has clear as day inspirations from its original work, and that isn’t necessarily a bad thing at all, but the question is, does Lost Records: Bloom & Rage carry on the individuality and unique outlook on life, love and relationships that Life is Strange started 10 years ago?

The flighty mindset of hyper-online living proves an uneasy solution to the rough gravity check of small-town poverty in “Sugar Babies,” Rachel Fleit’s documentary portrait of young, hard-up Louisiana women getting by on their wits, wiles and heavily TikTok-filtered faces. A working-class college student in her early twenties with dreams to chase and fees to pay, Autumn Johnson refers to herself as “a sugar baby without the sugar”: Trawling dating sites and social media platforms for moneyed men seeking some virtual flirtation, she plies them for money in exchange for texts and photos, all without ever meeting in person. It’s a living, or at least it seems to be. Beguiled by Autumn’s force of personality, Fleit’s film zeroes in on her and her genial circle, but is sketchier on the social and financial realities of the phenomenon for which it is titled.

Viewers must draw their own conclusion about too many things featured in “Sugar Babies,” a sketchy documentary portrait of Autumn Johnson, a young self-fashioned entrepreneur who makes money by flirting with men online, but then never meets them in person.
Producer/director Rachel Fleit (“Bama Rush”) mainly focuses on the world according to Autumn, a twenty-something Louisiana college graduate who earned most of her college tuition as a self-described “cyber sugar baby.” Fleit often seems sympathetic to Autumn’s perspective, especially whenever she mentions Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards’ multiple thwarted attempts at establishing a state-wide minimum wage. Times may be tough, and Autumn’s story may be mostly compelling in an anxious-making sort of way, but “Sugar Babies” often lacks vital context and feels more interested in sensationalizing the story rather than probing it.
It’s often hard to know what to feel about Autumn beyond an uneasy sort of fascination.

Films are made over many days, but some days are more memorable, and important, than others. Imagine yourself in ten years looking back on this production. What day from your film’s development, production or post do you think you’ll view as the most significant and why? It was understandable—we’d only met through a Zoom call, and now we were there, cameras in hand. But by the second day, we found our rhythm. Autumn invited us to her […]

After such films as “Mia and the White Lion” and “The Wolf and the Lion,” director Gilles de Maistre’s “Autumn and the Black Jaguar” reinforces the French filmmaker’s dedication to superficial family-friendly movies with an environmentalist cause at their heart. But as his latest shows, noble principles about the protection of wildlife and animals don’t automatically translate to a good screenplay or a watchable movie. You want to be moved by this seemingly conservation-minded affair, but “Autumn and the Black Jaguar” sadly turns into a cringe-inducing experience fast in a number of ways, undermining the intelligence and taste level of its young audience in the process.
Written by Prune de Maistre, the story follows Autumn (Lumi Pollack), a 14-year-old junior high student in New York City, being lovingly raised by his single father Saul (Paul Greene). Clunky flashbacks take us back to Autumn’s childhood while she...

"There's only jaguar left and its days are numbered..." Blue Fox is releasing this uplifting animal friendship movie in theaters later this month. Autumn and the Black Jaguar is an adventure movie from the same French filmmakers behind Mia and the White Lion and The Wolf and the Lion previously. So pretty much the same thing all over again - another girl and a wild cat becoming friends and saving each other. This also has a few other different titles including Ella and the Black Jaguar, or Le dernier Jaguar, because it's a French production and the her original name in that version Ella (but in this it's Autumn). However, the film is entirely in English anyway. A new adventure in the heart of the Amazon, the story follows a girl who befriends a black Jaguar in the Amazon, and returns years later to find the Jaguar and save her...

Editor’s Note: This review was originally published during the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival. “The Last Showgirl” opens January 10, 2025.
Following the world premiere of Gia Coppola’s deep-feeling Las Vegas drama “The Last Showgirl,” star Pamela Anderson teared up during a Q&a while sharing that Kate Gersten’s script was the only good script she’s ever received. And while we don’t doubt there have been plenty of good scripts around in the many decades the Canadian starlet has been working, we don’t doubt they weren’t sent to her — the product of a profound underestimation of the erstwhile “Baywatch” star’s prodigious talents.
Like the character at the heart of Coppola’s film — the eponymous “last showgirl” Shelly — Anderson has been forced to spend most of her life contending with unfair expectations and unreasonable requests. And while “The Last Showgirl” follows Shelly as she deals with...

Christopher Nolan and Zack Snyder are both titans of modern cinema and have immensely contributed to the superhero genre. The former is still celebrated for his Dark Knight Trilogy, which was revolutionary, while the latter is known for infusing larger-than-life visuals with gritty storytelling.

With Autumn just around the corner, it is the perfect time of year for a Gilmore Girls rewatch. There is just something so cozy and bingeworthy about the show, with the Stars Hollow setting, the compelling storylines, and the lovable characters. Although Gilmore Girls went on for seven seasons and a revival, there was something particularly magical about its earlier seasons.

Chet Hanks is defending his “White Boy Summer” meme after a new report found that it has gone viral among hate groups.
Tom Hanks’ 33-year-old son first coined the “White Boy Summer” Instagram meme in 2021. He said he was jokingly playing off Megan Thee Stallion’s “hot girl summer” and “Christian girl autumn.”
“I just got this feeling man that this summer…it’s about to be a white boy summer,” Hanks originally wrote. “Take it how you want, I’m not talking about Trump, Nascar-type white. I’m talking about me, [rappers] Jon B. Jack Harlow-type white boys, you know what I mean.”
But now a new report by the Global Project Against Hate and Extremism released Tuesday said the phrase has since been co-opted by white supremacist groups. The report also noted Hanks’ “White Boy Summer” font was a Gothic-style font similar to one used by such groups.

Storyline aside, the strangeness encapsulating Outer Range Season 2 (and the previous season) is mind-bending.
While some questions from the previous season are answered, even more are left on the table, along with a suggestion of trouble surrounding the timeline of events.
Outer Range dives headlong into the concept of time travel, a science fiction genre that often derails movies and shows that embrace it.
While time travel will always be an exciting and intriguing topic to the audience, it also means that a resolute ending point in the season finale is nothing more than a pipe dream.
The Status of the Mysterious Hole

While some questions from the previous season are answered, even more are left on the table, along with a suggestion of trouble surrounding the timeline of events.
Outer Range dives headlong into the concept of time travel, a science fiction genre that often derails movies and shows that embrace it.
While time travel will always be an exciting and intriguing topic to the audience, it also means that a resolute ending point in the season finale is nothing more than a pipe dream.

While the Wheel Of Fortune will never be the same without long-time host and legend, Pat Sajak, he has other fish to fry. Although he is preparing and ready for the final spin to air, Pat had one leg out the door with his new gig already lined up before the season finale.
End Of An Era
Now that the final spin is about to air, it has been a week of memory lane for the Wheel Of Fortune cast. Admittedly, Pat Sajak knows it will be “okay” for him to move on from the life he’s known for more than four decades. Confessing to his daughter, Maggie Sajak, he says, “I’d rather leave a couple of years too early, than a couple of years too late.” Although he knows he could still give the show more time, he says there are some other things he would like to do in his life.

Outer Range's season 2 storyline mirrors Back to the Future movies, with characters facing personal challenges in different eras through time travel portals. Perry and Autumn's plots in Outer Range season 2 parallel Marty and Doc's experiences in Back to the Future sequels, creating a familiar narrative. Despite similarities, Outer Range's time travel rules differ from Back to the Future, emphasizing fate over characters' control of when and where they travel.
Warning! This article contains Spoilers for Outer Range season 2.
Although Outer Range has a twisty time travel mystery of its own to unravel, the shows storyline is surprisingly close to the second and third Back to the Future movies. There are countless time travel stories in the annals of sci-fi cinema and television, from cerebral indie efforts like Primer to wacky romps like Hot Tub Time Machine. The sci-fi Western Outer Range is one of the more critically acclaimed time travel shows in recent years.

Autumn is officially revealed to be Amy from the future. Autumn realized her identity after seeing her reflection as Amy. Autumn pushes Amy through the hole to ensure the loop is closed.
Outer Range season 2 officially confirms the shows biggest Autumn theory after two years of speculation, but it also raises new questions and sets up new mysteries. The cast of Outer Range season 2 is led by Josh Brolin as Royal Abbott and Imogen Poots as Autumn, the latter of which was a mystery box in season 1. Perry changed the past by saving Trevor, either creating a new timeline or rewriting history as a result. Amy becomes Autumn in the future, losing her memories. Royal's vision means that his fight against time is not over yet.
Outer Range season 2s ending brings Autumn and Amys story full circle and rewrites the shows timeline by having Perry change the past. The Amazon Prime Video original show starring Josh Brolin as Royal Abbott returned for a second season, with all episodes dropping all at once. Outer Range season 2, episode 7 ends with Perry presumably going back to his original time, only to realize he arrived a few days earlier and had the chance to stop himself from killing Trevor. By doing so, he may have created a new timeline entirely.

The second season of Outer Range has come to an end, and in typical sci-fi thriller fashion, it has raised more questions than it has answered. However, one vital point that we as viewers know for certain is that Amy Abbot, the granddaughter of the elderly protagonist duo of the series, Royal and Cecilia, is at the center of the temporal crisis that has messed up both the Abbots and Tillersons’ households through the past, present, and future. In the present timeline, it’s the machinations of Autumn Rivers, supposedly the future self of Amy, that set off a chain of events, which will eventually lead to a troubling future if Royal fails to stop her. For Autumn, Amy turns out to be the most important part of her scheme, whom she plans to use to create a dreadful future. The connection between Autumn and Amy is integral to understanding...

The mysteries lurking beneath Abbot Ranch have once again stirred up the proverbial hourglass, as Amazon Studio’s Outer Range has returned with its second season. After the much-underrated first season of the complex sci-fi western managed to captivate the attention of a small number of viewers, the odds of continuation didn’t seem good due to the strong possibility of cancellation. However, fortunately, the creators got another chance to expand the scope of their vision with a second season of Outer Range, which they have utilized in the best way possible. While the confusion regarding the central plotline isn’t really resolved in this season either, a number of smaller story arcs have been set in motion in the aftermath of the tense, eventful finale of the second season. We would like to briefly discuss those, along with the ending itself, to help viewers assess what to expect when...

Plot: The mystery surrounding the enigmatic void on the west pasture of the Abbott family ranch deepens as Royal and his wife Cecelia struggle to keep their family together in the aftermath of their granddaughter’s sudden disappearance. The stakes have never been higher for the Abbotts, who now face threats on multiple fronts with profound and unforeseen circumstances that could shake the very foundations of time itself.
Review: With so many shows on television and streaming platforms, it can be nearly impossible to distinguish yourself from the pack. While Outer Range may be a complex blend of genres, the first season was unlike anything else. Blending elements of everything from Yellowstone to Arrival and The Twilight Zone, Outer Range ended its first season with some substantial cliffhangers, while the second season wastes no time diving right into the murky complexity of this story of multiverses, parallel timelines and so much more.

If you only know Outer Range from the title and the image of Josh Brolin wearing a cowboy hat, you would probably be forgiven for assuming that the show was simply Prime Video’s answer to the extremely popular Yellowstone franchise and nothing more. But for good or ill, it is far more than just that.
The show’s first season, with its ongoing murder mystery and eventual shift into full-on time travel, was more than a little confusing at points; but its strong cast and mostly focused story helped keep things anchored and consistently compelling. Season 2 meanwhile leans hard into the time travel angle and while its ambition is admirable, it becomes abundantly clear that someone lost the plot along the way.

Despite having a presence in literature for over a century, the sci-fi western has remained a grossly overlooked genre. In recent years, except for the underrated Cowboys & Aliens, no other major venture has tried to take the risk of experimenting with the genre, which highlights its uniqueness of amalgamating the Wild West with the complexities of science fiction. Amazon Studios’ Outer Range, created by Brian Watkins, is a meticulously crafted thriller that highlights the genre’s untapped potential through a heady mix of murder mystery, family/social drama, and temporal shenanigans. The first season released a couple of years ago consisted of eight episodes, which had a lot to unpack, which is why, as the second season of Outer Range premieres this week, we would like to briefly discuss every key point viewers need to remember to get into the series with ease.

Noble Team's absence in Halo season 2's "Reach" may disappoint fans hoping for their inclusion in the series down the line. The Fall of Reach plotline differs greatly from what happens in Halo: Reach, but still features some odes to the game. Despite Noble Team's significance, their role in the series may be unnecessary due to the presence of Master Chief and Silver Team.
Spoilers are ahead for Halo season 2, episode 4, "Reach."In the wake of Halo season 2, episode 4, "Reach," the inclusion of Noble Team in the Paramount+ series seems like a pipe dream. However, given that the Spartan squad plays a central role in the Halo: Reach video game, long-time fans of the franchise remained hopeful about Noble Team's eventual inclusion.

The second season of Halo may be hitting too close to home for Pablo Schreiber’s Master Chief and Silver Team. After the destruction of Sanctuary in the premiere, John-117 suspects it’s only the beginning of a mass offensive that will eventually end with the Covenant invading Reach, the center of Oni and humanity’s military might in deep space. If Reach falls, there’s basically nothing stopping the Covenant from heading to Earth next.

Under the old political regime in Taiwan it was difficult to make features, given the thematic and narrative constraints producers and directors had to obey. However, as these began to shift somewhat in the 1970s, the career of filmmakers such as Lee Hsing truly flourished as he began to tackle current issues, for example, in his Vertigo-esque “The Young Ones” or the drama “The Story of a Small Town”. Arguably one of his most well-known projects from that era is “Execution in Autumn”, a period drama set on the brink of the 1900s. Hsing has gone on record, stating this is his favorite film of his career, perhaps not only due to the nods at the likes of Kenji Mizoguchi, but also due to its universal and political themes.
