Taylor Swift has collaborated with several songwriters, but some of her most iconic hits have come from working with Jack Antonoff. The Bleachers singer rose to prominence as a member of the indie pop band Fun. They had several hits before Antonoff branched out into writing music with pop artists like Swift and Sara Bareilles. Antonoff co-wrote Bareilles's 2013 hit song "Brave" and released his first song with Swift in the same year. "Sweeter Than Fiction" was a collaboration for the film One Chance and earned Swift her second Golden Globe nomination for Best Original Song.
While Max Martin and Shellback heavily influenced Taylor Swift's transition to pop, Antonoff brought a fresh sound to the pop music industry. His use of 80s-inspired synths changed the game, earning him the Grammy for Producer of the Year three years in a row. Including bonus tracks and vault tracks from 1989 (Taylor's Version), Antonoff co-wrote...

America’s Got Talent‘s 2024 Winner Richard Goodall has already talked about how he’d like to play him in a biopic of his life. Goodall has already picked a former Disney Channel star to play him. Even the singer’s wife picked out the perfect actress to play her.
The Actor’s Got Quite A Background As A Singer
Goodall won the show’s one-million-dollar prize and is expected to make big changes in his life. Previously working as a janitor for an Indiana middle school, he’s already got his eyes set on a movie deal. In a statement with The U.S. Sun, he revealed he’d like singer and actor Zac Efron to play him in a possible biopic.
Much like Goodall, while he is now primarily known as an actor, Efron’s breakout role, playing Troy in the High School Musical movies, involved music. Interestingly enough,...

For Taylor Swift’s final Eras Tour date in Amsterdam, Netherlands at Johan Cruijff Arena on Saturday, she dusted off some early gems for her surprise acoustic session at the show. It included “Mary’s Song (Oh My My My)” from her 2006 self-titled debut album, and she also delivered “Sweeter Than Fiction,” her song from the soundtrack of 2013 film One Chance. She had not previously played either song during her Eras Tour run until Saturday.

Pop history is littered with prolific partnerships, but the artist-producer pairing is arguably one of the most indispensable. Not only can an intrepid knob-twirler coax the best out of an artist, the most fruitful of these collaborations are often reciprocal. Think George Martin and the Beatles; Timbaland and Missy Elliott; or Jam & Lewis and Janet Jackson. Taylor Swift and former Fun guitarist-drummer Jack Antonoff have both achieved commercial and critical success outside of their work together, but their alliance over the last several years has, more often than not, resulted in pop magic.
The duo first worked together over a decade ago, on the unassuming “Sweeter Than Fiction,” a song from the British-American film One Chance. The following year, Antonoff co-wrote and co-produced three tracks for Swift’s blockbuster album 1989, the success of which propelled him to the top of every A&r exec’s wish list, helming tracks for Pink,...

The year of Taylor Swift may not be over with the ringing in of the new year. Right now it looks like it’ll continue well into 2024, not only at the Grammys, where she’s a six-time nominee, but at the Golden Globes, where she could win her first trophy on her fifth career nomination. She could win the brand new category for Cinematic and Box Office Achievement for her record-breaking “Eras Tour” movie.
SEEGold Derby Music Awards nominations: ‘Barbie,’ Taylor Swift, Lana Del Rey, …
Swift was previously nominated for four Golden Globes, all for Best Original Song: “Safe and Sound” from “The Hunger Games” (2012), “Sweeter Than Fiction” from “One Chance” (2013), “Beautiful Ghosts” from “Cats” (2019) and “Carolina” from “Where the Crawdads Sing” (2022). She didn’t win any of those, but it’s a testament to how especially well liked she has been by these awards since none of those Globe noms translated to Oscar noms.

Though Taylor Swift's famous female friends, widely known as the "Squad," might be on everyone's radar, the superstar's low-key friendship with long-time music collaborator Jack Antonoff is the unsung hero of the 12-time Grammy-winning singer-songwriter's tight-knit inner circle. The two music geniuses first crossed paths in 2012 at the MTV EMAs, and that chance encounter led to their first collaboration, "Sweeter than Fiction" - a track featured on the soundtrack for the 2013 motion picture "One Chance."
That was just the beginning of a beautiful partnership - both in their personal and professional lives. Since then, the dynamic musical duo has worked together on numerous hit records, including "1989," "Lover," and "Midnights," having created some of the biggest fan-favorites, including "Getaway Car," "August," "Cruel Summer," "Anti-Hero," and many more.

Taylor Swift praised her longtime musical collaborator and friend Jack Antonoff in a post on Sunday as she reflected on a new exclusive release of “Sweeter Than Fiction,” the 2013 song they cowrote, which originally appeared on the soundtrack for One Chance.
This song has always made me think of my friend Jack,” Swift posted on Instagram, alongside several photos of the friends hugging. “It was the first song we made together and watching him challenge himself and make beautiful art over the years has been the thrill of a lifetime.

Eva Longoria is about to make the leap from A-list actress to feature filmmaker, thanks to her directorial debut, “Flamin’ Hot.” The film, which is set to get the rare dual release on both Hulu and Disney+, has already received favorable reviews from its debut at SXSW, but the true test will be viewership when it hits streaming. And according to Longoria, she’s well aware that, as a woman and Person of Color, she’s held to a different standard as a filmmaker than white males.

Albert Hammond Jr, best known as the lead guitarist in The Strokes, has announced his fifth solo album, Melodies on Hiatus, out June 23rd on Red Bull Records. What’s more, he’s shared a handful of supporting tour dates (grab tickets here) and lead single “100-99” featuring Goldlink.
Besides GoldLink, Melodies on Hiatus features Rainsford, Steve Stevens, and Matt Helders. It was co-written remotely with Simon Wilcox, with premium mastering from Dave Cooley and mixing by Tony Hoffer. Pre-orders are ongoing.
“100-99” was partially inspired by the ’90s hip-hop Hammond Jr grew up listening to, he explained in a statement. “I would always gravitate towards the melodic hooks in the songs I heard on the radio, specifically anything Dr. Dre was producing or rapping on,” he said. “Years later, I noticed myself pulling from the style of those melodic lines in my guitar work, even though it wasn’t...

In 2022 music superstars Beyonce and Billie Eilish received their first Oscar nominations for songwriting. Could Taylor Swift join them in 2023? She revealed on Instagram on March 22 that she’s contributing an original song, “Carolina,” to the upcoming film “Where the Crawdads Sing.”
“‘Where The Crawdads Sing’ is a book I got absolutely lost in when I read it years ago,” said Swift in her post. “As soon as I heard there was a film in the works starring the incredible Daisy Edgar-Jones and produced by the brilliant Reese Witherspoon, I knew I wanted to be a part of it from the musical side.” She wrote “Carolina” on her own and recruited Aaron Dessner to produce the recording. Dessner is a founding member of the alternative rock band The National and also collaborated with Swift on her 2020 albums “Folklore” and “Evermore” as well as her 2021 “Taylor’s Version” re-recordings of her albums “Fearless” and “Red.

Exclusive: Producer Steve Whitney and his company Tsw Films have purchased Suge Knight’s life rights with plans to develop a biopic on the infamous music mogul, bringing Nick Cassavetes and Anthony Thorne aboard to write the script.
The former music exec born Marion Hugh “Suge” Knight Jr. co-founded the iconic label Death Row Records in 1991 and is credited with bringing the subgenre of gangsta rap into the mainstream. Artists signed to the label included Dr. Dre, Snoop Dog and Tupac Shakur—and those three acts alone changed the face of hip hop with the release of the groundbreaking albums The Chronic, Doggystyle and All Eyez on Me. Knight’s label had enormous success with over 50 artists and profits of over $100 million a year, but fell into bankruptcy after the departure of Dr. Dre and Snoop Dog, the murder of Tupac and the 2018 incarceration of Knight on charges of voluntary manslaughter.

News about a biopic on the comedy legend John Belushi has been coming and going and coming back again and again for several years now. The last attempt to bring Belushi's life to the big screen, which was being discussed as recently as December, has apparently fallen through, and a different iteration, reportedly titled Belushi, is now moving forward. Happy Endings and Sonic the Hedgehog star Adam Pally is reportedly being eyed to take on the lead role as the beloved Saturday Night Live cast member.

Taylor Swift and Andrew Lloyd Webber didn’t make the cut for their original song “Beautiful Ghosts” from “Cats” when the motion picture academy announced its shortlist for songwriters. And the reviews for the film have been, shall we say, not great. But Swift could still get her revenge at the Golden Globes, where she and Webber did earn a nom for “Ghosts.” And this isn’t the first time the Hollywood Foreign Press has nominated her, so this may be the time they decide to give her the win.
The country ingenue-turned-pop superstar has been nominated twice before at the Globes. First she contended for “Safe and Sound,” which she co-wrote with The Civil Wars and T-Bone Burnett for the film “The Hunger Games” (2012). She ended up winning a Grammy for that composition, but the Globe went to Adele‘s “Skyfall,” which went on to win the Oscar too.

Just look at this line-up of nominees: Beyonce vs. Taylor Swift vs. Elton John vs. Cynthia Erivo — along with composer and Egot champ Robert Lopez and spouse Kristen Anderson-Lopez.
Will there be a glitzier or more highly competitive category at the 77th Golden Globes than Best Original Song in a Motion Picture? Too bad that the Hollywood Foreign Press Association doesn’t make room for musical performances during its party that passes as an awards show.
One can only hope that these are also the same candidates that will show up on the Oscar ballot. Perhaps John Travolta will be given another a chance to right his wrong when he weirdly introduced “Frozen’s” Elsa — Idina Menzel — as Adele Dazeem before she sang the winning”Let It Go” at the 2014 ceremonies — that is if she gets to wail “Into the Unknown” from its sequel, “Frozen 2.”

When Andrew Lloyd Webber and Taylor Swift had the opportunity to write a song together for “Cats,” they, well, pounced on it.
“We wrote 90 percent of it pretty much over an afternoon,” Lloyd Webber tells Variety about his and Swift’s fast-combusting collaboration on “Beautiful Ghosts,” the one brand new song written for the forthcoming movie adaptation of the 1981 stage musical.
They didn’t actually meet up with the intention of writing a new song… at least, not ostensibly. Swift had gone over to Lloyd Webber’s last December during filming to rehearse her performance of a song she sings in the film, “Macavity the Mystery Cat,” in her supporting role as Bombalurina. But at some point in the afternoon the fact that Lloyd Webber had written the instrumental basis of a new song came up. Taylor Swift’s association with disgraced movie mogul Harvey Weinstein was among the topics the singer addressed in a revealing new interview with The Guardian. Weinstein held producer credits for the movies “One Chance” and “The Giver,” both of which featured Swift — in the former, a song, and in the latter, a supporting role. She also attended the premiere for “The Giver” (pictured above with Weinstein and Katie Holmes) in 2014.
Asked if she ever spent time with Weinstein alone, Swift said no and downplayed her interactions with him. Swift is described as “dispassionately” recounting: “He’d call my management and be like, ‘Does she have a song for this film?’ And I’d be like, ‘Here it is.’” Swift added that she would “get a vibe” from Weinstein and “would never vouch for him” and described his conduct as “a power thing.”

Tom Hooper (The King’s Speech) is set to direct the film, which has been adapted by Lee Hall (Billy Elliot) from Webber’s musical, which itself was based on poetry written by T.S. Eliot. Hooper has been prepping the project for two years and it is set to shoot in the UK this November.

The Weinstein Co. has agreed to pay $2 million to settle a dispute with a director, but it hasn't yet written the first check — which could mean one more party will line up to collect a debt if the distributor declares bankruptcy as it has signaled it would.
David Frankel in 2016 sued TWC for fraud, claiming the distributor buried his film One Chance after agreeing to a wide release. The James Corden-led film, based on the story of Britain's Got Talent star Paul Potts, was released on 43 screens and brought in only $100,000 at the domestic...

In the first week of December, at a trial that might have otherwise flown under the radar, Harvey Weinstein could take the witness stand to be questioned under oath about the sexual assault allegations that have been circling the embattled movie mogul.
The trial concerns a fraud claim from director David Frankel (The Devil Wears Prada, Marley and Me) asserting The Weinstein Co. buried his 2014 film One Chance after allegedly agreeing to a wide release. Frankel is seeking millions of dollars in damages after the film wasn't put on a minimum number of screens as allegedly called for by...

Carrie Kosinski dreamed of being a mother to a large family from the time she was a small child. So when doctors told her and her husband, Craig Kosinski, that they couldn’t have children naturally, she was devastated. Then fate intervened.
In July 2013, an acquaintance who was several months pregnant contacted her on Facebook to see if she and her husband wanted to adopt her baby. They agreed — but didn’t find out until later she was actually expecting twins. Adalynn and Kenna were born on Feb. 28, 2014.

David Frankel had “One Chance” to win over audiences with his movie, and he claims that The Weinstein Company ruined it for him. The director and his Luge Club Productions Inc. has amended a lawsuit against the New York-based studio, alleging fraud and negligent representation as well as breach of contract over the size and scope of the October 2014 release in North America. Frankel, whose credits include “The Devil Wears Prada” and “Marley and Me,” claims that he signed a written agreement with The Weinstein Co. in December 2010 for “One Chance” and at the time his fixed fee for directing.

Director David Frankel is ramping up his claims against The Weinstein Company for burying his 2014 film One Chance after allegedly agreeing to a wide release. A California judge on Wednesday allowed the filmmaker to pursue a fraud claim against the independent distributor and argue that TWC never intended to release the James Corden-led film on 800 U.S. screens as promised. The film, based on the story of Britain's Got Talent sensation Paul Potts, was released on just 43 screens in October 2014 and grossed a paltry $100,000 at the domestic box office. Can a Song Save Your Life?: Caton-Jones’ Modest Return to Filmmaking
Scottish film director Michael Caton-Jones had a very prolific filmography in the 1990s thanks to films like Memphis Belle (1990), Rob Roy (1995), and The Jackal (1997). It’s been nearly a decade since he’s tackled a feature film, following the dismally received Basic Instinct 2 in 2006. He’s returned to the UK for Urban Hymn, a modest character study set against the 2011 North London riots. Emotionally effective and featuring a trio of genuinely unfussy performances, the familiar trajectory too often settles for superficial examinations of its characters, hobbling them of the necessary interiority to make them more than one-dimensional archetypes. Despite this, those appreciative of feel-good narratives should take note considering the effortless dynamic of its leading actors.

Twin Peaks, Season 2, Episode 6, “Demons”
Written by Harley Peyton & Robert Engels
Directed by Lesli Linka Glatter
Originally aired November 3, 1990 on ABC
“Do you understand the parasite? It attaches itself to a lifeform and feeds. Bob requires a human host. He feeds on fear, and the pleasures. They are his children.”
So much of the time, the care we have for other people brings us pain. Allowing yourself to have love for someone else puts you in a state of vulnerability, a scary place where it becomes far easier to wound. Sometimes, it’s from outside sources, but it can also come from within. The problem is that we can’t help ourselves. There is nothing more powerful than the love and care we have for others, even if we know pain will come. But especially if we don’t.
The people of Twin Peaks are perhaps more cursed in this regard than most.

As If: 10 year retrospective of the cult Channel 4 teen drama - part 1
The sad fact with As If, is that it is almost impossible to track down today. The show has never been released on DVD, due to a copyright issue with the music. Without the music, it simply wouldn't be As If.

It just took it to a whole new level. I guess it's worth not having a DVD release just to keep the music."

The notion of VOD as a stigmatized, modern update on the straight to video release has gradually and dramatically disbanded in the past handful of years. Never mind the other specialty films this weekend. It’s really all about Birdman (Or The Unexpected Virtue Of Ignorance) and its high-flying debut, averaging more than $100,000 per theater in its opening weekend.
The Venice/Telluride feature directed by Alejandro González Iñárritu and starring Michael Keaton had one of the best bows of the year, exceeded only by another of distributor Fox Searchlight’s specialty projects, last spring’s The Grand Budapest Hotel (that one opened in four theaters with nearly $203K averages).

Gkids’ The Tale Of The Princess Kaguya, Rocky Mountain’s Got The Father and Tribeca’s Listen Up Philip also had solid to decent bows in limited release. And TWC’s St. Vincent and Spc’s Whiplash held strong in their second frame.

The Weinstein Company opened St. Vincent on a traditional platform and it appears to have reaped rewards from that old-school approach with a solid debut in a very crowded box office weekend for limited releases.

We're not sure we can remember the last time a husband and wife battled each other for no. 1 at the box office, but it looks like that's whats in store for Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner this weekend. Affleck stars in "Gone Girl," the David Fincher's thriller which has already earned over $48 million in the U.S. and should find somewhere between $20-22 million in its second frame. Garner appears opposite Steve Carell in Disney's "Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day" which is also expected to earn between $20-24 million over the weekend. For "Girl" it will be the second time it's trying to sneak by a competitor after the 20th Century Fox flick beat "Annabelle" by just $378,000. The other new wide releases may be close, but likely won't be battling for no. 1. Universal Pictures' "Dracula Untold" is expected to pull in $18-20 million...

Intense music drama Whiplash, already a big winner at Sundance and the Deauville American Film Festival earlier this year, should drum up plenty of audience interest in its debut this weekend, even though it faces a crowded specialty market that also features several other notable newcomers, including the Bill Murray comedy St. Vincent, Hilary Swank‘s You’re Not You and Jeremy Renner‘s Kill the Messenger. All are what I’d call “big” specialty releases, with big names attached that should attract big attention.
The weekend also includes what I’d call some “small” releases, including documentaries The Overnighters (another Sundance winner) and I Am Ali, about the former heavyweight boxing champion, alongside the Mormon Church-backed Meet the Mormons. All will be clawing for attention in a market that’s seen more than 30 films debut in the past three weeks.

Weekend Movies & TV: 'Alexander and the Terrible...,' 'Whiplash,' 'The Walking Dead,' & More (Video)
This weekend, Steve Carell, Jennifer Garner, and the entire family have a hilariously rough time in "Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day," Miles Teller stars as a promising young drummer mentored by a brutal and brilliant J.K. Simmons in "Whiplash," and "The Walking Dead" returns for a highly-anticipated fifth season this Sunday evening on AMC.
Also in theaters this weekend: In "Dracula Untold," Vlad Tepes (Luke Evans) strikes a deal with dangerous supernatural forces to protect his kingdom and family against an invading army, "The Judge" stars Robert Downey Jr. as a lawyer who returns to his childhood home to defend his father (Robert Duvall) -- also the town's judge -- after he's suspected of murder. In "Kill the Messenger," a reporter (Jeremy Renner) becomes the target of a vicious smear campaign after he exposes the CIA's role in importing cocaine into California and arming Contra rebels in Nicaragua.
