Will Ferrell had already notched his next starring role for Amazon MGM Studios way before the poor reviews for his latest flick, You’re Cordially Invited, hit the internet. However, Zac Efron has now been cast in that same project. Amazon MGM Studios and Mattel Films' live-action Masters of the Universe reboot has found its Evil-Lyn. Community alum Alison Brie is set to portray the villain, who is Skeletor's second-in-command and uses a wand with a crystal orb to practice the dark arts, in the forthcoming movie.

Per The Hollywood Reporter, Brie joins a cast that currently includes Nicholas Galitzine (The Idea of You) and Camila Mendes (Riverdale). Galitzine will lead Masters of the Universe as He-Man, while Mendes will portray Teela, the captain of the royal guard and possible romantic interest. Evil-Lyn was previously portrayed by Meg Foster in the 1987 live-action movie, and most recently voiced by Lena Headey in Masters of the Universe: Revelation. After being in development for close to two decades, it looks like a new take on Masters of the Universe has finally come together.

“Freaks and Geeks” revolved around siblings Lindsay (Linda Cardellini) and Sam (John Francis Daley), who try to make friends in their new Detroit high school in 1980. Segel, Seth Rogen, James Franco, Busy Philipps, Martin Starr, and Samm Levine rounded out the ensemble cast for the teen series that ran from 1999 to 2000. Chicago – How about a precisely done comedy of romance in time for Valentine’s Day weekend? Prime Video presents “Somebody I Used to Know,” a collaboration between a real-life married couple … director/co-writer Dave Franco (“The Rental”) and co-writer/lead actor Alison Brie.

Alison Brie portrays Ally, a reality show TV host whose series is cancelled, and she is left without direction after this attempt to make it in show business. She decides to go back to her hometown to recharge, and meets her old lover Sean (Jay Ellis), who is about to get married to Cassidy (Kiersey Clemons). After a spark is set off again with Sean, Ally sets out to somehow break up the marriage, and ignites all the problems associated with that goal. “Somebody I Used to Know” streams on Prime Video beginning February 10th.

For 10 years, Jason Segel was in one of the biggest sitcoms on American television. For the last three of them, he knew he had to get out of it. “They were a hard three years,” he remembers, of his time as the big-hearted Marshall in How I Met Your Mother. “I was really, really in need of doing an artistic check-in, and it was no one’s responsibility but my own.”

That show, along with self-scripted movies like Forgetting Sarah Marshall and The Muppets, catapulted Segel to late-Noughties comedy superstardom in the US. This was the era of Judd Apatow neuroses and the Seth Rogen-verse; Segel was the classically handsome, 6ft 4in giant of the group. He seemed to have it made: total creative control, immense sums of money, wooing everyone from Emily Blunt to Cameron Diaz to Mila Kunis on film. Something nagged at him, though. “The show was fantastic.

February is the shortest month of the year but Prime Video is paying that no mind with its jam-packed list of new releases for February 2023.

This really is an uncommonly stuffed month on the Amazon streamer and it all starts with a handful of Amazon Originals. Amazon’s original offerings kick off with the release of Dave Franco-directed romcom Somebody I Used to Know on Feb. 10. That is followed by Carnival Row season 2 – a gritty fantasy crime drama is set in a world of steampunky fairies. The show stars Orlando Bloom and Cara Delevigne and this batch of episodes will be its swan song. Meanwhile The Consultant on Feb. 24 is a dark comedy workplace thriller starring Christoph Waltz.

The biggest hits this month, however, might just be some recent cinema faves. If February is for lovers, Amazon didn’t get the memo as there are quite a few horror movies of note here.

It’s 2022, and a Hollywood studio has just made a movie in which two men fall in love and can’t figure out what to do about it. No one dies of AIDS. No one gets tire-ironed on the side of the road. Judd Apatow produced the thing, so you know it’s funny. And yet, somehow, “Bros” doesn’t feel like that big a deal. Sure, it’s a well-budgeted, wide-release, R-rated gay rom-com, and that’s historic (if you put enough qualifying adjectives in front of it), but one of those had to come along sooner or later. Oddly, it feels like there already have been others, and there’s no question more are coming, considering how hard Hollywood has been working to include gay characters.

The major studio rom-com is back with a flourish, but it took Billy Eichner and Nicholas Stoller to prove the format still works, even if this time it is two gay men who are the ones who find love against all odds.

Although Bros is indeed making history as the first major studio film with an all LGBTQ principal cast, and the first to star and be co-written by an openly gay man, ultimately what it has to say about how hard it is to find the perfect someone to spend your life with is truly universal. Don’t get me wrong. Much of the humor in Bros comes from situations and attitudes specific to gay culture, but you don’t have to be gay to laugh out loud at most of it.

Amazon has secured rights to the untitled wedding comedy from writer-director Nick Stoller (Bros), which has Will Ferrell (Barbie) and Reese Witherspoon (The Morning Show) attached to star, Deadline can confirm. We brought you news of this hot package first, at a point when there were multiple offers for it.

Specifics as to the film’s plot are being kept under wraps. But Ferrell and Jessica Elbaum will produce for Gloria Sanchez Productions, along with Witherspoon and Lauren Neustadter for Hello Sunshine, and Stoller and Conor Welch for Global Solutions, with Hello Sunshine’s Ashley Strumwasser serving as exec producer.

Ferrell is a three-time Emmy winner who recently exec produced and starred opposite Paul Rudd in the Apple TV+ series, The Shrink Next Door. He’ll next be seen in Apple’s musical comedy Spirited with Ryan Reynolds and Octavia Spencer, Josh Greenbaum’s comedy Strays for Universal and Greta Gerwig...

Universal Pictures has released the first – and decidedly Nsfw – trailer for the upcoming romantic comedy “Bros,” and it paints a hilarious portrait of a gay man trying to find love.

In a meta twist, Billy Eichner co-wrote and stars in the film as a podcast host who’s enlisted to write a gay romantic comedy, and the story follows his burgeoning relationship with a man played by Luke Macfarlane (“Killjoys”). Described as a “smart, swoony and heartfelt comedy” the story chronicles “how hard it is to find another tolerable human being to go through life with.”

Though the confusingly named initiative “FX on Hulu” is on its way out, FX is still bringing premium television to Hulu in the meantime.

Hulu’s list of new releases for April 2022 is highlighted by FX limited series Under the Banner of Heaven. This adaptation of the non-fiction book by John Krakauer stars Andrew Garfield as a Mormon police detective whose faith is shaken when investigating a murder involving the church.

It’s not all just FX on the TV side of things for Hulu this month, however. The streamer is debuting second seasons of its series The Hardy Boys (April 6) and Woke (April 8). There isn’t much to report from Hulu’s original movies arm aside from true crime documentary Captive Audience on April 21. Mindy Kaling has partnered with Amazon to launch Mindy’s Book Studio, a boutique story studio that will publish books selected by the six-time Emmy nominee, which she will look to adapt for film in concert with Amazon Studios.

Mindy’s Book Studio will publish books across genres beginning late this year, which will be available across subscription programs including Kindle Unlimited, and in print and audio. Kaling will work alongside Amazon Publishing’s publisher Julia Sommerfeld, as well as Amazon Studios’ Head of IP & Literary Acquisitions Lauren O’Connor and Mindy’s Book Studio editorial director Carmen Johnson in transitioning material published through her studio to film.
